Creaturanuary Prompt 9 - Kirin

I had a couple different directions I wanted to take this prompt, but ended up doing something entirely different.

These are Obsidian-backed Kirins, found across the world of Unina. They make great work beasts, often pulling farming equipment and heavy loads of produce.

Creaturanuary Prompt 14 - Phoenix

I’ve been looking forward to this prompt for a bit. Depicted in this illustration is a Valkyrie Phoenix, a guardian species of Unina. This specific character is a Damis sub-variant, known as the ‘soldiers’ of the species.

Creaturanuary Prompt 10 - Cyclops

They wouldn’t give me the song I wanted ☹️

Anyway, the cyclops is a fun creature. I think they definitely need more representation in media and art. Also I think it would be fun to play with the idea of these guys just being roughly human height.

I feel like cyclops’ never have hair, which is so unfortunate because they could rock some sick styles.

I’ll probably build on a cyclops idea further down the line, but I’m not sure what I’ll do with it. I want to give them a bit more pizazz than just “tall man with club rah rah”

I’ll come back to this idea for sure

This was a pretty tough prompt to come up with an idea for, so I wanted to take it in a more mount-based concept as mounts aren’t usually something I think about too often.

Creaturanuary Prompt Two - Undead

Doing better than I have in other years 😆 this is like a world record for me

Today’s Xarzengior focus with this prompt was the world Runavera, a mostly drowned, magically irradiated fragment of a former stronghold world.

Runavera is a combination of concepts from an old zombie world I had loosely built, and a new fantasy & sci-fi blend.

‘The toxic levels of magic radiation have seeped into the corpses of friends and family, rising them back up to attack and corrupt the living. The Runavera Undead are to be avoided where possible. They retain memories of their former selves, where some can still speak in fragments or function basic mechanism and tools. The magic seeps out of their body in high quantities, slowly eating away at them until they no longer have any ability to move.’

Time lapse tomorrow! So far these have been done using Clip Studio on my iPad since these are being done on my way to and from work 😆

Creaturanuary Prompt 5 - Manticore

This one is a bit later in the day, oops!

I went way too hard on this drawing 😂

Today’s beast is a Mandrichore, a Runaveran beast capable of manipulating and controlling blood. Its horns are the epitome of this power, with a blood like substance encased in tough glass like growths.

These guys are a concept I’ve been building on for a few years now. I feel like manticores don’t get enough love in the art world, so I always love getting to see art of them.

These guys are pretty vicious and territorial.

Today’s Pinkie Pie inspired pegasus is brought to you by Accidentally Going Way More Focused Than Planned™️

This is a Jaragornian Pegasus, found in the warmer countries and regions across the globe. They gather in herds of 15 and are relatively friendly with other species around them.

Creaturanuary Prompt 13 - Werewolf

This prompt was a perfect excuse for some OC art.

I’ve previously only ever drawn this design as a headshot when I was concepting the design. She’s never been coloured, so they’re still subject to change.

She’s an Uninan werewolf, and stands at roughly 7-8’ on hind legs. They’re the type of werewolf that can transform at will, but will also forcibly change during the full moon. Usually lasting two days as the moon changes phases.

Creaturanuary Prompt 8 - Jackalope

Jackalopes are a really cool, underrated creature.

Jackalopes are a common creature found in Tmaizerin, across all continents and islands. Many of their cousin species are also found in these habitants, and they’re found co-mingling.

Much like deer and other cervidae, Tmaizerin Jackalopes go through an antler shedding every two years. During this time, they’re more skittish.

I reckon I’ll definitely be drawing more Jackalopes after this challenge. A surprisingly fun thing to draw.

Creaturanuary Prompt 7 - Golem

I played with a couple concepts for this one. I wanted to focus more of the concept of ‘golems are human made’ than necessarily their materials. So I’ve got example of a clay/rock one, a glass one and a paper origami one, that most likely a child would make.

These are all Tmaizerin based, where magic is a bit stronger to achieve mostly self-sentient beings like Golems to assist.

Creaturanuary Prompt 4 - Sea Monster

This was a bit of a tough one! Sea/water based designs have always been a bit of a weakness of mine. I wanted to try and do a crab based design, but it didn’t quite want to happen. So instead I went with a rough fishy design.

I’ve been really enjoying drawing with this rough brush I downloaded a while ago. The texture adds a lot of a natural paper feel to the piece. Paired with texturing my stuff with canvas,

This design goes straight into Runavera, as a largely water based world. I will be building on this guy more, they probably hunt in packs. Their mouth splits wide open into four sections, allowing them to swallow large prey.

This one was more focused on sketching the concept, than colouring it and massively detailing it.
