She followed him back into the pub, fingers tangled together as they headed back to the table full of their oblivious friends.

Cillian turned to her with a smirk after a few minutes of rejoining the conversation, she flicked a look across the table before she swiped her thumb across the dark red lipstick mark at the corner of his mouth.

The same shade she had painted on her lips.

No one at the table had even noticed that going for a smoke had ended up with them being all over each other on the deserted street.

It had been weeks, they'd been so glaringly obvious since the morning she'd woke up in his bed with a blinding headache and a satisfying ache between her legs.

Maybe it was the fact all their friends were used to their flirty behaviour, the way Cillian always held her hand when they were leaving the pub, how she always ended up staying the night at his.

Hours later in the taxi home, she's giggling into the warm skin of his neck as he laughs about how obvious they'd been all evening.

I haven't been on this app for over a week. And when I do come back I am being accused of ignoring people? Honestly it's unfair.

I have been missing without anyone knowing because I just lost my grandmother, who I was incredibly close to, so this app wasn't my first thought after losing her.

I have a life outside of this app, I am a single mother to two children who have also experienced a loss of a grandmother sk explaining that to them has been difficult.

But as of now, I am in mourning. Again, I am not ignoring anyone, and to be honest, I'm a little annoyed if being accused of this.

I thank everyone for supporting me every though I have been M.I.A. I appreciate every reblog, follow and like, and hope to be back up and running soon maybe I don't know.

Leaning against the fence Tommy placed a cigarette in his mouth as he squinted through the sunlight, watching you in the distance as you rode the horse he had just gifted you.

" She's so easy to ride" you called out happily as you trotted along the path.

" Maybe you should go faster" Tommy said sarcastically under his breath as he lit the cigarette in his mouth, cupping the flame from the wind while he watched his sadistic plan ready to be played out.

Dance of Darkness Chapter 5: Horses

Tommy leaned against a stack of crates, watching as the boys worked to load and unload the boat docked at Charlie’s yard. He was in a good mood. The kind that not even the particularly hazy air or Charlie’s grumblings could puncture. Behind him, someone jostled a box and Charlie barked at them irritably. Tommy smiled, fighting back a laugh.

“And wipe that smile off your face. I want another pound a boat.”

Tommy glanced at his uncle, then gestured with his cigarette. “Done.” 

Charlie’s face cracked with a disbelieving smile. “You don’t even fight me anymore. Jesus. The fuck is wrong with you? Lucy put you in a good mood or something?”

Something like that. His eyes trailed lazily over to the mop of loose auburn curls, like a beacon amongst all the gray of Small Heath, watching her as she helped with the boat. There were still the remnants of a pleasant, satisfied ache in his muscles from the things she’d done to him the night before. And this morning.

Charlie huffed, shaking his head at whatever he saw in Tommy’s eyes. “And it’s no sport getting through the Black Country with this truce. They just fucking wave at you from the bank.”

“Well just wave back, eh?” Tommy straightened as Lucy came over, patting Charlie on the arm, stooping to press a kiss to Lucy’s temple. She looked pleasantly surprised at the rare showcase of public affection, smiling and taking his hand as he began to lead her away.

“And all these fucking cars. When did you last ride a horse, Tom?” Charlie shouted after him. 

“What’s his problem?” Lucy asked, taking his cigarette from his fingers for a drag before giving it back.

“He’s just bored,” Tommy huffed, though Charlie had a point about the horses. Perhaps this weekend he should take Lucy riding. Out to the nice little meadow just outside of town. They could bring booze and sandwiches and let the horses graze while he fucked her under a tree by the lake.

“Men like you are becoming very fashionable down here,” Ada informed him. “No society party in London is complete without a gangster for the girls to go giddy over.”

He looked down, and Lucy could see the hurt flash across his face. She wondered if it turned his stomach; the idea of anyone swooning over the very same actions that so often left him waking up screaming in the middle of the night.

“Anyway,” Ada must have seen something in his face, because her voice softened. “What is it that you want?”

“I don’t have any children, Ada,” Tommy said. Lucy stopped mid bite, pulling the scone away, chewing slowly, grateful that both Tommy and Ada were so invested in their conversation that they didn’t notice the way that the statement felt like a blow to the stomach.

An unintentional one, of course. After all, he didn’t know.

She’d never plucked up the courage to tell him after she found out that she couldn’t get pregnant. Years ago. Much as she knew that it was selfish and wasn’t fair to him, she couldn’t shake the irrational fear that the moment he found out, that would be it. That he would see no future with her anymore. The very thought of it was enough to make her want to cry. She stood abruptly, approaching the window with her back to them, peering through the curtain. So they wouldn’t see her face until she was confident that there was no trace of her distress still etched onto it. 

“So, I’ve set up a trust fund. The beneficiaries will be John’s kids and Karl. In order for Karl to benefit, I need your signature.”

As he spoke, Ada slowly lowered the newspaper she’d still had clutched in her hands. Tommy pulled a document from his pocket, explaining how the trust would work.

Ada picked up the paper, turning it over in her hands. “Are you sick?”

Tommy shook his head. “I’m just doing what any ordinary man would. Putting my affairs in order.”
