Last night, a New Pornographers song was on an episode of Gilmore girls. Today I found out I got free tix to a New Pornographers show for tonight. On the bus to the show, I listened to "Run" by Air. Now I'm at the show, and they're playing the same damn song. I'm freakin out, man.

CRH: The Kindness of Strangers

A young man (who I presume was on his way to high school) was having some kind of car trouble and it suffered a breakdown. Two much-older men in two separate cars stopped, got out, and both helped to push the young man’s car to the side of the road...with him! They both asked him if he could take care of himself after that, and they got into their cars and left.

From my vantage point coming down the sidewalk across the street from him, I could see that he was taken care of and, as I walked past, he was calling someone to lend him more aid.

It made me very happy to see because I’ve been in that place before, by myself and broken down in the middle of an intersection. And I’m very, very glad that he had passersby--strangers--who were willing to help. That’s not the type of thing you see every day!

I've been trying to write everyday about small good things that happen. However I made a promise to write about this, not small but very fun, event.

So today I'm grateful for the crazy random happenstance. I was going to work all night, after working all day and by the grace of god I got called off. I had been thinking about a burger for dinner from M Burger all day so I went up by work anyway.

I was on the phone with a friend of mine, who was suppose to go into the club later that night to tell him I got called off and hung up as I got the the counter, good thing too because that's where I ran into Michael and Roman. Now I had never me these guys before but before I really know what's going on they are offering to by my burger. Now anyone who knows me knows that I don't turn down free food, ever -- call it a personal policy. So I graciously accepted a level 3 hurt burger (it has jalapenos in it you have to order it).

After ordering I was looking at the restaurant, very small in case you didn't know, I just went over and sat with the lovely gentlemen who bought my dinner. So here are the guys: Michael, aspiring environmental lawyer, Roman, optometrist, and John, aspiring doctor. There wasn't really a plan but we hung out and ate dinner, I learned about interventions and they talked about people I didn't know but they were funny and upbeat and great to be around. So when the mentioned they were going to see a movie, I figured the adventure was over I'd call my friend Gustavo and we'd hit up something up on the north side. But they asked if I wanted to join, continuing the adventure longer sounded like the best idea.

So we left to see Zero Dark Thirty at the AMC River East movie theater. We met up with two of their friends and sat down about thirty minutes early where John and I talked and he asked to read my blog. The movie began and it was fine, but this isn't a movie review so fast forward.

After the movie we walked back to Michael's apartment and him, John and I went up and played charades, drank wine and listened to Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, being from South Louisiana and finding the name of the band awesome I couldn't resist. Charades, was something I hadn't played very much if ever and I'm not very good. Probably the highlight, at least for John, was my attempt to portray Doctor Who, I'm not going into details. The most impressive was Michael doing the word Boeing.

Well that came to a close and I hopped in a cab and went to a friend's place on the west side and wrapped up the night hanging out with my already very drunk good friends. The night was an adventure that I wouldn't have been said yes to a year ago but I'm glad I did because I met some great guys and had an even better night.
