The loss of his nose, leaving a grimy crater, had left the Emperor Dantus with an expression of eternal embarrassed bewilderment, like a man surprised whilst on the latrine.

The dwarf planet Ceres has been the hub of the solar asteroid belt since human exploration of the region started in the late 21st century. Ceres of the 30th century is the capital of the United States of the Solar Belt, as both a vital industrial center and an important transit hub. It is also the largest object in the belt, comprising about 30% of the region’s total mass (though it is still among the smallest planetoid bodies in the system).
Shown here is the capital megacity Proserpina, situated in Kerwan Basin; the majority of Ceres' 18 million people live there, in an urban space 4 times bigger than modern Beijing and almost as large as the island of Ireland. Off to the right is the smaller megacity Pomona, in Dantu Crater. Below the main image is the state flag of Ceres, depicting the planet’s astronomical symbol in a stylistic fashion.
figured I ought to post some more worldbuilding stuff to my tumblr, since it’s been a while! here’s a very quick and admittedly rather shoddy photobash of a future human-inhabited Ceres, plus its flag, created for my hard science fiction setting Astra Planeta. done using assets from Space Engine and NASA/CSA. urban lightscapes used are Washington D.C. and Tokyo.
