InkTober 2024 #7 - Passport
Tumblr media
Roll showing her "passport" (it's just a driver license, but I got to come up with an excuse to draw her) to, who the heck knows? Plum? Wanna draw the her too btw, I'll see where it could be good on InkTober, and if I don't get a good chance there, I'll just draw her when it ends! (not necessarily, by that I mean just not as part of it, and to post her after)
This made me realize I've never drawn Roll in an accurate way until now. I used to like, really like her as a kid so I drew her a lot back then, but when I was a kid no one looked in model so... This is actually the first time I do it using reference and the difference is night and day. Only thing that worries me it's that's she's a little too on-model, while not looking like how she would if drawn by whoever did the B&C art (apparently, contrary to what I thought until a bit of research, it wasn't Ishikawa)... But I still like it! It's just that I want to not rely on doing her just like she looks like too, but I guess that's just a matter of time.
I was going to post this the 6th, as I had skipped until then the drawing for that day and forgot, to make up for it. Then I couldn't do the drawing of that day so I just would post both yesterday, or at least this one that was ready, but due to unexpected causes I never got a chance to do so, but I did now, I'll see if I'll post this day's art today too or what else, but at least I got this out for now.

Next on my list: The Crash Bandicoot GBA trilogy.
First up, Crash Bandicoot: The Huge Adventure. It... sure is a Crash Bandicoot game on the Gameboy Advance. The plot is paper thin, you collect crystals and gems as usual, fight Cortex, all the usual stuff. I guess I was kind of impressed that they incorporated pseudo-3D chase levels into it. Not bad by any means, just kinda... generic.
Crash Bandicoot 2: N-Tranced had a bit more originality to it. We've got a new villain, N. Trance, a bit of a different plot structure with your friends being brainwashed, or in Crash's case badly xeroxed? Fake Crash's boss battle was pretty unique, I'll give you that. And the fact you can play as Crunch and Coco once you save them, that's kinda cool. Might be my favourite of the three.
Finally, Crash Bandicoot Purple: Ripto's Rampage. It's a minigame compilation with platforming and awkward cameos stapled to it. Not sure what else to say. I feel like they missed an opportunity to do more with a crossover game, but I guess they were limited by what you can do in a portable game?
For the most part, not bad entries in the series considering they were porting over a native 3D game over to a 2D portable. Honestly it kind of gave me Donkey Kong Country vibes. Which makes sense, I guess? Partially clothed animal hero whose iconic item is a wooden container versus megalomaniac with a punny name? Maybe that should be the crossover they went for...
My latest self-imposed challenge: To 100% the Crash Bandicoot trilogy.
I only briefly had the original PlayStation, and one of the few games I had for it was Crash Bandicoot 2. I never managed to finish it.
So far I have 102% in Crash 1, 100% in Crash 2, and 60% in Crash 3.
These games are so hard and frustrating in entirely new and exciting ways. But that's good, right?

Crash Bandicoot the Series Episodes
52 Episodes; To stop N Tropy and Cortex’s Plan Z that puts reality in jeopardy, Crash and Coco must travel between dimensions to gather crystals necessary. Along the way, the duo meets familiar faces and it’s a guess of whether they’re friend or foe. Then again for Crash, an enemy’s just a friend you haven’t made yet.
Tumblr media
Method of the Marsupials: Spelunking down an ancient temple, Coco slowly feels inferior compared to Crash’s spontaneity always lucking out. Then again, Crash has never been one without his sister.
The Titanfields and Mucoltants: A chase after a baby mutant leads to a universe where two different clans have been feuding for generations and it’s up to the Bandicoots to finally put an end to it, or make the fighting feel different.
Crash Cultivation: Our siblings split up momentarily and Crash’s adventure involves helping a farmer confront a curse that prevents anything from growing on his land.
In My Element: Coco’s adventure is a puzzle room, literally a room full of puzzles she has to solve to get out. She’s having a blast, but comes to realize that the joy could be endless.
Breakfasticoot: Taking a break from gathering the crystals, Crash decides to go into the morning wilderness to get his sister breakfast in bed. Needless to say, it isn’t easy for our unbreakable hero.
Tense Theory: In order to get the next crystal, Coco needs to show that she can relax like her brother.
Tales as Old as Tiny: The Bandicoots encounter Tiny Tiger, depressed and very lacking in muscle. Crash wants to help, leading to the two entering the wildcat’s mind.
Minuscule Madness (Part 1): The Bandicoots reach a dimension that has everyone in it out to kill them. The problem is that the “everyone” are too small to be noticeable by the duo.
Minuscule Madness (Part 2): Crash’s body has been invaded by the small people and Coco must figure out how to save her bro before he dies or the small people die first due to Crash’s surprisingly volatile insides.
Jake and the Crashman: Crash is split from Coco and is thrust into a noir story involving wumpa fruit, cars, and a hidden conspiracy.
War the Game: Crash and Coco face off against a supercomputer possessing a crystal where losing will mean the end of that world, the heart and mind of our Bandicoot siblings truly at unity this episode.
Coco Kaijuu: The next dimension our siblings enter have them transformed into giant monsters and while Coco wants to be peaceful towards the civilians, Crash is having fun with his new form which unleashes a force trying to stop them.
Rip Roo Ca-Choo: Ripper Roo is alone after his original defeat from Crash, rejected by Cortex and with no direction. He then sees Crash again and becomes determined to exact his revenge.
Crash the Bachelor: A hopeless romantic Skunk finds love when Crash is the one being that isn’t driven away by his putrid stench. And while Crash enjoys being friends, our bandicoot doesn’t care about getting closer.
Tawna Comes to Tango: Dimension hopping Pirate Tawna shows up to help our Bandicoots win the crystal at a casino but her love of risk soon gets in the way.
Bookbrain: Our new trio visit the library where a crystal’s hidden and the former two decide to get Crash into more advanced reading. Crash loves it at first, but when the three discover the comic book section, it’s a challenge to keep that and Crash separate.
Animal House: Crash, Coco, and Tawna have to strengthen their teamwork to face a chicken, a monkey, and a shiny jellyfish in order to get the crystal.
Ghostdusters: Tawna doesn’t believe in ghosts, but a trek through a haunted house suddenly has her scared sneezing. The three try to make their way in and out, but finding the crystal will mean cleaning things up.
Crashket Ball: A game so complicated for Tawna and Coco leads to Crash helping them understand things his way.
Why Love Him: Tawna is separated from her friends into another dimension and stumbles across a dejected Crash that’s been through what she went through long ago in her dimension. She tries to cheer him up, and comes to realize what she saw in him originally.
The Messiness of Music: Our trio have to confront N Gin in a music contest in three days but instruments aren’t their forte, Crash and Tawna can’t and won’t sing, and Coco is overwhelmed in making the best song. However, music doesn’t have to be flawless to feel good.
Crashcading Fury: Crash wakes up angry and on destructive rampage for the next crystal. A scared Coco and Tawna do what they can, desperately trying to get their more cool, easy-going buddy back.
Lunchtime: Crash, Coco, and Tawna have the chance to relax and get sandwiches and the Komodo brothers are sent out to kill them.
Ahoy Baby: A young group of aliens claim Tawna as their mom and she joyously comes to teach them how to live her way.
The House of N (Part 1): Knowing the trio’s progress, Cortex comes up with the idea of bringing multiple versions of himself to come up with ideas in stopping them.
The House of N (Part 2): A battle of the one true Neo Cortex ensues, leading to our main scientist at odds with himself of where everything went wrong.
Aku Uka Alone: Uka Uka and Aku Aku mentally link and argue over the faith they have in their hero/villains.
Dream Reaper: In this silent but musical episode, N Tropy sends a villain capable of killing people while they’re dreaming to the trio, only for our villain to underestimate all three’s imaginative capabilities.
Pace and Test: Crash is challenged to a simultaneous physical and academic exam for a crystal which is where his sister and bestie put their all into making him the best of both worlds.
Ferally Feud: Crash and Tawna get into an argument, leading Coco to try moderating and sees why she loves them both.
It Takes a Bandicoot to Save a Village: Former chief Papu Papu asks Crash to help rebuild his village after Cortex’s meddling might force them to leave the island.
Crate Minds Think Alike: Cortex manages to weaken the trio to the point where they can’t bash crates anymore, leading to them pushing each other to get stronger in the real way.
Dial D for Dingo: Meeting up with an old chum at his “established” restaurant, the Bandicoots take a stand when health inspectors have come to shut down the place by ANY means.
Two Times Tropy: While Cortex is out, N Tropy and his female alternate are working on repairs but are ignorantly making things worse with their constant ego stroking.
Crash The Banditoon: The trio reach a blank dimension where things feel different, more animated and that’s saying something. Crash isn’t complaining though.
Juicy Juiced: A special wumpa Crash finds gives the trio enhanced ability but at the cost of sleeping for days. So they keep eating it in order to come up with an antidote to null the effects at the risk of an eternal sleep.
Lab Rat Revolution: The trio arrive at a place populated by a majority of Brio’s rejects and helps them get revenge.
Wayback Brio: An encounter with N. Brio has him and Coco stuck in a cavern. While Crash and Tawna figure out a way to their freedom, the two inside are forced to rewalk their former relationship.
The Skinner (Halloween Special): Crash is possessed by an evil spirit that’s known for desiring the skin of its victim, unbeknownst to Tawna and Coco though, an unstable spirit can’t control an unstable body.
You’re a Bad Man, Dr. Cortex: Cortex arrives in a dimension where he’s the leader of the world, only this version is a good guy. Naturally he replaces the other Cortex and tries to spin the world into his image, but is conflicted that he’ll destroy a utopia he technically made himself.
Nurse Bandicoot: Coco catches a high fever after a trip through the arctic dimension, and the others do what they can for her. Crash surprisingly takes things slow while Tawna is frantic in making things better.
Do Mursupials Dream of Magic Sheep?: Crash suddenly gets nightmares and it affects him while awake. One night, a figure appears in his dream and the two adventure to found out how to resolves these bitter feelings.
Cocomotion: A trip to the future has Coco visit a successful version of herself. As such, it’s the age old case between future versus family.
Crunched Kindness (1/2 Hour Christmas Special): Infiltrating Cortex’s castle, the trio frees a disheveled Crunch Bandicoot and helps him see the beauty of the world.
High School Bandicoot: The Trio are stuck in a video game dating sim where Crash has to win in one go or get deleted forever.
Fishing for Crystals: A fish eats a crystal, a bigger fish eats the little and so on, forcing our heroes to fish differently in the effort to get it back.
Continue?: Crash finds himself alone in a dreary world where it turns out he's dead. He meets a little possum girl and her big bodyguard as they help him uncover a way back to life.
The Trials of Crash Bandicoot: Crash is framed for multiple interdimensional crimes in space court, all of which are Cortex’s doings, and while Coco and Tawna play defense, everyone he’s encounter over the series comes to either his aid or prosecution, and Cortex has something up his sleeve, Crash himself is seemingly out cold during everything.
The Dimmer of Hope: After the events of the previous episode, Cortex has all the crystals and the trio’s banished to the end of the universe. All feels lost, so all that’s left to do is reminisce of the adventures the three got to have.
The Dimensional Dance (Part 1): Cortex and the N Tropys have everything set for multiversal domination but argue over how they want to do things. Meanwhile the trio get back to reality and figure out a way to destroy the crystals.
The Dimensional Dance (Part 2): Crash has absorbed all of the power of the reality machine to make a universe in his own image. Tawna, Coco, the N Tropys, and Cortex are aware and find out that this won’t be stable for much longer and have to save Crash to reverse the effects.
The Never Ending Story (Series Finale): Crash is alone again, not dead, this time in a plane outside all existence and, given the chance to speak for the first time, reflects on his life and everything he got to have to a being he’s familiar with.

Spyro the dragon
Tumblr media
Spyro the dragon is the main protagonists of the 1990’s to 2000’s video game series of the same name. They were initially developed by Insomniac Games (1998-2000), then Check Six Games (2002), Equinoxe in the same year, Digital Eclipse (2001 to 2003), Eurocom (2004), Amaze Entertainment (2005) and finally Toys for Bob (2018). I’m am only going to be focusing on Spyro in this particular series. Spyro in The Legend of Spyro and in Skylanders will be at some point in the future.
Like I said, Spyro is the main character of his self titled video game series “Spyro the Dragon”. Spyro has appeared in 10 games in total (11 if you count the Reignited Trilogy or 13 if you count it as three separate games) and has made cameos in the Crash Bandicoot series. He was also the former mascot for the Sony PlayStation. He is a small purple dragon with purple eyes, yellow spikes, orange wings and brown horns who lives in the homeworld of Artisans. But did you know originally his name wasn’t going to be “Spyro” and he wasn’t going to be purple?
Concept
While coming up with the character, one of the artists at Insomniac Games had an interest in fictional beasts (such as dragons). This artist was the one who came up with the concept of Spyro in the first place.
Insomniac initially came up with the idea for Spyro to be a green dragon named “Pete” however they couldn’t use the name due to possibly getting copyright claimed by Disney. So, they decided to change the name to “Pyro” (the Latin and Greek word for fire) but they thought that name was too mature for a game aimed for kids. The name was eventually altered to Spyro and they ended up sticking with it.
After Insomniac settled on the name, they had to decide what his colour pallet would be like. Now you might thinking “Didn’t they want him to be green?” That’s true, but they didn’t want him to blend in with grass. So, they eventually decided to make him purple due to the colour contrasting well with green whilst being a unique colour that wasn’t commonly used for dragons.
This is one of the earliest design sketches for Spyro.
Tumblr media
Personality
Spyro has always been known to be four different things: Courageous, headstrong, eager and arrogant. But he also has a sense of heroism, friendliness and a fiery personality. He has little concern for his own safety and can be quite irresponsible at times, but can you blame him? He’s only a young little dragon.
Spyro can be a little curious but hardly cautious. He’s known to be quite sure of himself as well. You could even call him cocky.
Abilities
Spyro has gained a lot of abilities throughout the series but his main ones consist of charging his opponents with his horns and breathing fire. He can’t fly very well because he’s so young and he also can’t breathe a continuously long stream of fire, he can just spit fire bursts.
As Spyro gets older, he learns how to use his wings just like a shield, swim underwater, double jump, head dive and breathe streams of fire. In the later games, Spyro gains the power to breathe ice, electric and even bubbles. He also receives the additional power of breathing water. He is able to breathe wind and fly on his own but only at short distances.
Now, let’s get into his story.
Spyro the Dragon
Tumblr media
Spyro as he appears in “Spyro the Dragon”.
In Spyro the Dragon, the main villain of the game, Gnasty Gnorc attacks the dragon realms, freezing all the dragons except for Spyro and his friend Sparx. The spell had no effect on them because they were smaller than the other dragons. The friends go across the dragon realms to free the 80 dragons from their Icey prison and recover their treasure in the process. After going through all the dragon realms (that’s including Gnasty’s realm and the former dragon junkyard) Spyro and Sparx have a final battle with Gnasty Gnorc and defeat him.
Later, Spyro remarks that in every good battle, someone needs a good adversary and that Gnasty was a worthy opponent. This then causes the dragons to become frozen again by an unseen character that’s presumed to be Gnasty Gnorc.
Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rampage!
Tumblr media
Spyro in “Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rampage!”
In Spyro 2, Spyro and Sparx are on vacation from the dragon realms and notice a portal to Dragon Shores. They decide “Hey, we haven’t been there since we defeated Gnasty Gnorc.” and enter the portal. They are surprised to find that they’ve entered a realm called Avalar because residents of the realm: The Professor, Elora the Faun, Zoe the Fairy and Hunter the Cheetah had redirected the portal to send them there instead. They soon encounter a dictator named Ripto, who is enraged by the fact that they had brought a dragon to Avalar. There is a brief struggle that ends in Ripto escaping Summer Forest.
Spyro and Sparx (By Elora’s request) vist all the realms of Avalar and recover several Talismans, then pursue Ripto. They end up in a battle with one of Ripto’s minions, Crush which they win after he gets crushed under a pile of rocks (Ironic). Ripto escapes to Autumn Plains and Spyro and Sparx pursue him.
Spyro and Sparx eventually catch up with Ripto and have a fight against his mount, Gulp. Elora assists them by providing weapons. Ripto falls after the fight and Elora gives Spyro a place to rest.
Later, Spyro and Sparx decide to search for her and find themselves in Winter Tundra. They find out that Ripto survived and has locked Elora and the others out of the Tundra’s palace. Spyro and Sparx then have to travel through portals to recover enough orbs to defeat Ripto for good. After they’ve gathered enough, they challenge him to a duel. Spyro uses all the orbs he has collected for attacks while Ripto has his own orb to bring a mechanised version of Gulp. Spyro destroys it.
Ripto uses another orb to transform the floor into lava while creating a giant mecha-bird to defeat Spyro. Spyro fought the bird and defeated it, sending Ripto to what is assumed his end in the pool of lava.
Spyro and Sparx were then sent back to Dragon Shores to continue their vacation. It is then revealed in the epilogue of the game that Spyro visited Avalar after his vacation.
Spyro: Year of the Dragon
Tumblr media
Spyro in “Spyro: Year of the Dragon”
In Spyro: Year of the Dragon, the dragon realms are celebrating the Year of the Dragon festival, a very important event. Every twelve years, the fairies bring dragon eggs to the dragon realms. This year, they’ve delivered 150 eggs. After the dragons sleep from exhaustion after celebrating too much, a rabbit named Bianca comes to steal the dragon eggs. The dragons wake up to find the eggs gone and witness Bianca with the last remaining egg in her hands. Spyro, Sparx and Hunter attempt to stop her but their too late when she takes the egg through a wormhole to the Forgotten Realms, the realm where the dragons used to live.
Since the dragons are too big to chase after her, Spyro and Sparx are the only ones who are small enough to go through and recover all 150 eggs. Hunter insists in coming along and goes through the wormhole with Spyro and Sparx’s help.
Bianca’s master, the Sorceress, alongside her, creates monsters to fend them off but their all obviously defeated by Spyro. Along the way, he makes four new allies: Sheila the Kangaroo, Sgt. Byrd the flying Penguin, Bentley the Yeti and Agent 9, the Professor’s monkey. When Spyro and Sparx arrive in Midnight Mountain, Bianca begins to realise just how far the Sorceress will go in order to obtain power and betrays her and joins Spyro. Spyro defeats the Sorceress but she didn’t die.
He had recovered 149 of the dragon eggs and collected 20,000 gems to fight her again in a region of the Forgotten Realms that was secret. He took control of a spaceship and defeated her, recovering the final dragon egg.
Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly
Tumblr media
Spyro in “Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly”
Spyro, Sparx, Hunter and Bianca are having a celebration for the baby dragons that were rescued in the previous game gaining their dragonflies. Ripto comes and spreads 90 of the 151 dragonflies across the dragon realms. Spyro and Sparx track them down.
They eventually enter Ripto’s portal with the combined magic of the dragonflies. Ripto creates a shield for himself that is resistant to fire, Spyro destroys it and defeats him. Suddenly, he uses a magic spell to grow twice his size and create a flame barrier, causing Spyro’s fire breath to be utterly useless.
Spyro uses ice breath to bring down the barrier and freeze Ripto, who then uses his magic to grow even bigger and bring pieces of Crush and Gulp into his body. Spyro brings him down easily using his electric breath, defeating Ripto. Ripto then tries to curse Spyro, which doesn’t work too well.
Spyro: A Hero’s Tail
Tumblr media
Spyro in “Spyro: A Hero’s Tail”
Spyro discovers that the dragon realms are being plunged into darkness by an evil Dragon Elder named Red. He, along with Sparx, Hunter and Sgt. Byrd team up with a new friend named Blink the Mole and track Red down, along with his alliance of Gnorcs (Gnasty Gnorc being among them.) and a new character named Ineptune.
They travel through new homeworlds and defeat Red. However, he escapes to his lab and builds an army by turning Gnorcs into robots. Spyro finally tracks him down only to see that he’s become a robot himself. Spyro defeated him and the Professor shrank him so couldn’t attack the dragon realms ever again.
Spyro: Shadow Legacy
Spyro and Sparx return to the dragon realms to find it in ruins by an evil force. They discover a Sorcerer is attempting to take control of the dragon realms using dark mirrors of each realm called the Shadow Realms. Spyro sets out to rescue everyone held captive by the Sorcerer and defeat him.
After Spyro saves the dragon realms and Avalar from the evil force, he finds Red in the Forgotten Realms and defeats him in a fight. Red then decides to change his ways and help Spyro stop the Sorcerer. Spyro makes his way up the Sorcerer’s lair and the two of them engage in a fight, which Spyro wins. He returns to the dragon realms where a parade was thrown in his honour.
Spyro: Season of Ice
This game is an alternate sequel to Year of the Dragon that’s set after Spyro defeated the Sorceress.
After Spyro saved the dragon eggs from the Sorceress, he, Hunter and Bianca decide to take a vacation. While Bianca was researching vacation spots, she lost her magic book in the Sorceress’ library, causing it to fall into the hands of the librarian, Grendor. He tried casting a spell on himself to make him super smart but read the spell wrong causing him to grow another head.
He began to use Bianca’s book to freeze all the fairies and scatter them across the Fairy Realms. Zoe alerted Spyro before she was caught herself and he along with Hunter and Bianca went to the Fairy Realms to rescue all the fairies, including Zoe.
When Spyro entered the first world, he found that Rhycons had infested the Fairy Realms and defeated them along with Grendor and freed the fairies.
Spyro 2: Season of Fire
When Spyro and Sparx returned from the Fairy Realms, Ripto returned as well for his revenge on the dragons by scattering all the fireflies all over the dragon realms. Which wouldn’t be so bad if the fireflies weren’t the source of the dragons ability to breath fire. Spyro and Sparx go to find all of the fireflies and eventually save them all, defeating Ripto once again.
Spyro: Attack of the Rhycons (Spyro: Adventure in Europe and Australia)
Ripto takes over the Professor’s laboratory and drives Spyro and Sparx out. They then travel through the realms to collect twelve hearts to open a passage back to the lab to confront Ripto. They eventually defeat him and he is banished until he meets Dr. Neo Cortex, the main villain of Crash Bandicoot.
Spyro Orange: The Cortex Conspiracy
This is a crossover game of Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon.
Ripto teams up with Cortex to get rid of Spyro and Crash. They genetically modify Ripto’s minions and disguise them as their two foes, leading both main characters to begin to believe that they are fighting each other. Spyro eventually meets the real Crash at Dragon Castles although, they believe that the other is the disguise Ripto minion. They realise that they’ve been tricked and team against Ripto and Cortex.
After defeating them, Crash and Spyro thank each other for their help.
Cameos
Spyro makes cameos in the Crash Bandicoot games.
Crash Twinsanity
Spyro discovers that his treasure has been stolen by someone and traces it down, he discovers that some of Crash’s enemies are trying to take the treasure and he toasts them as revenge.
Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled
Spyro appears as one of the racers in the Spyro Circuit portion of “Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled.” He is a speed based racer in the game.
And that’s it for Spyro. And yes, I will do the character profiles of the other Spyro characters in the series along with his profiles for Legend of Spyro and Skylanders. But until then, this it for the Spyro games.

SAVING FOR POSTERITY
Decided to dream up my own expedition which wouldn’t work and is very Exile Biased but lbr the Exiles were the only ones that mattered in the end
Anyway! Roan Ranger Winterfest Special!:
The mission, or expedition, I think? Starts off with a Skeech and a Chua? for some reason poorly dressed up as santa and an elf, and theyre taking donations for toys and things to allegedly give to those in need (and also stealing shit on the side). Cue THE ONE AND ONLY ROAN RANGER to swiftly realize what's going on before chasing them out of town in an exciting yet VERY short cutscene as the two con artists pull some secret switch and mr cowBoy falls into conveniently placed hatch that drops us down into our spawn point, some eldan bunker or lab or whatever.
Cut to where we spawn in and the Roan Ranger's there to greet us like "oh you fell in too lol!" before giving us some exposition about whats going on as the quest text. We take it and DOWN BEGINS OUR DESCENT further into the lab.
At a certain point we start seeing Dommie spybots and other tech bits left behind that grow in number until we get to what looks like a huge warehouse operation with guards everywhere AND the stolen hoard of gifts. Like spanning the ENTIRE room theyve stolen so much shit.
In comes the gimmick, it turns into a sneak stealth mission and our heroes, (the players) get to pick 1 of 4 goofy and very tacky xmas themed disguises and theyre all impossible and ridiculous , idk use your imagination. So basically we're running around shapeshifted as decor items. You get special action bars to take out guards and pick up the loot along the way till we get to the end and descend further to find our THIEVES and apprehend them.
Anyway we deep dive further and find out this lab leads to some massive...generator type thing the eldan built long ago for who knows what, and the culprit skeech and chua are There doing some kind of monologuing about a plan I forgot about. Something something ruin winterfest fiveever.
We get a double boss battle that sort of reminds me of the gauntlet end boss a bit. heroes win, yeehaw, the place is suddenly set to blow and everybody's like Oh No Lol. But have no fear! The Roan Ranger knows a way out of here cutscene!
That we never get to fucking see.
So we get out, the place blows and we got MOST of the stuff. BUT THEN as everyones on the ship, sky pirates come and attack and jack the stuff from us that we HILARIOUSLY CARRY OUTSIDE THE SHIP AND NOT INSIDE THE SHIP??? cut to some very playstation crash bandicoot rail shooter type level of shooting the pirate ship down and getting our loot back.
success, but everyones ship blows up at the end and everyone just pleasantly parachutes down and there are gifts everywhere and beat up pirates and singed dommies and the rest plays out like a saturday morning cartoon. bad guys go to bad guy jail. Cactus jail  with the cactus warden, the children get their gifts and the day Is Saved.
then we zoom out and it was just like a TV show sort of deal going on starring our characters playing on someones tv at home who wasnt even that into the special to begin with

n. doscopy refuses to engage in combat with crash because of the hippocratic oath but he could totally still have a boss battle... while crash is traversing the cortex castle, at the end of a certain level he gets knocked out by an unseen figure and then wakes up in n. doscopy’s office, strapped to an operating table. doscopy approaches crash as he’s waking up, telling him he has a serious injury and requires immediate medical attention.  he pulls out a comically large bonesaw and goes “ain’t never operated on a bandicoot before... wish me luck, boy!” and explodes into wheezing laughter and the “fight” begins. it’d be very different from the regular gameplay, sort of a game of rhythm/reflexes. crash is strapped to the table, but still has some wiggle room, and the player would use the d-pad to make him squirm and stretch and flex around in his restraints in order to carefully dodge every swipe doscopy takes at him with the bonesaw. doscopy would telegraph each attack, you can see where he’s aiming for as he raises his arm before taking a jab, and he just starts doing it faster as the sequence goes on. every time he stabs the bonesaw into the table, the table shakes around and crash’s restraints are slowly coming undone. after a certain number of dodges the table gets knocked over and crash breaks free from the restraints, left to roam freely around the office. doscopy starts chasing him around the office with bonesaw still in hand - “whoa, now! sit back down, sonny, we ain’t finished yet!” - and crash need only hit the frail little old man with a single spin attack to end the battle.

Donkey Kong Z
Setting: Donkey Kong Z combines characters from Star Fox, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Pokemon and Dillon's Rolling Western while having events laid out in the style of Dragon Ball Z.
Genre: Adventure Fantasy Martial arts Action
Story: It begins before the Planetary Destruction of the Pokemon Universe. It is centered in Lucario and Mewtwo as they battled each other in Viridian City until they went straight into space where lucario becomes Mega Lucario and Mewtwo becomes Shadow Mewtwo. After the battle, Shadow Mewtwo decided to destroy the planet where all in the pokemon universe from generation 1 to 8 were destroyed along with the pokemon trainers, making mewtwo and lucario the last pokemon, in lucario's rage he tries to continues his fight with shadow mewtwo but it became pointless to where he was thrown onto another planet to die yet lucario crashed into the ocean. Now the story begins two days later in DK Isle where DK and Diddy do their usual routine in beating K Rool and his kremling krew and was defeated and began their relaxation until lucario was washed up into shore and was taken to be resurrected by the crystal coconut. K Rool became exasperated into being defeated by donkey kong multiple times and became very much sick and tired of his constant failures, so he decided call in a bunch of villains from different universes to form an alliance in beating donkey kong for good. While Neo Cortex, Uka Uka and Emperor Andross managed to enter into the DK universe to see k rool and join his alliance, k rool had to obtain the crystal coconut to resurrect gnasty gnorc, ripto and the sorceress from the dead after beating donkey kong's father DK Jr, and even took the mysterious banana fruit gem from the golden temple. Lucario teams up with DK and Diddy to defeat the shadow alliance but it was not enough to beat their overwhelming odds and just when K Rool was about to kill DK, Spyro, Crash and even Team Star Fox enters into battle to defeat their archenemies, having them retreat into androsses spaceship and flew straight into outer space. With both the crystal coconut and the banana fruit gem in K Rool's possession. Spyro, Crash, Dillon  and Team Star Fox joined forces in the great fox after saying goodbye to both cranky and DK Jr and left to go after k rool and the shadow alliance, knowing they'll be back. K Rool enlightens the villains with a tale about the fruit gems containing absolute power along with the crystal coconut, should all the fruit gems be collected then K Rool will use it to combine their powers with the crystal coconut to gain the power that he needs to finally get rid of donkey kong. Thus the journey for the fruit gems begins. The production has not been endorsed or licensed by Nintendo, Rare or Microsoft for its span, and is non-canon. The popularity of the series has inspired others to create similar works, including unofficial continuations.

Crash team racing ps1 rairty
Tumblr media
The powerups range from seeker missiles, cannon balls, speed boosts, shields, traps, et c. The racer slams through a crate and an item is randomly selected for him or her. Some tracks even have hidden shortcuts to find.Īs this game was inspired by Mario Kart, there are powerups scattered around the tracks. The wide selection of tracks keeps the game interesting, as each one is well designed. The locations vary from beaches, underwater tunnels, sewers, castles, the arctic, the sky, outer space, etc. There are many different tracks to race on in this game. CTR may be a "Mario Kart clone," but it does a good job at what it does. The PAL version also supports six languages including English, French, German, Netherlands, Spanish, and Italian and features PAL borders.īalance and superb design keep this racing game fresh!ĬTR: Crash Team Racing is known as the last Crash Bandicoot game to be developed by Naughty Dog, the original developers of the Crash Bandicoot series of video games. Relics are earned by beating certain lap times, three CTR Tokens are hidden on each track, and the special Gems are awarded to the winner of each of the five Gem Cup tournaments. Players are also free to race each course again for new incentives, including Relics, CTR Tokens, and Gems. Doing so earns players trophies, which in turn allows them access to new tracks. The overall goal in the Adventure mode is to defeat all opponents on each of the courses. Each power-up can also be "juiced" up by collecting fruit. A go-kart game wouldn't be complete without power-ups, and CTR features 11 different items to use during the course of play, including tracking missiles, explosive crates, bowling bombs, and defensive measures such as Aku Aku masks. Also featured on the courses are various ramps to propel go-karts through the air, and players have the added ability to hop over items found along the ground.Ī Hang Time Meter also helps players gauge how long their vehicle remains airborne the longer the kart manages to stay in the air, the bigger the turbo boost when it lands. Power-slides are used for tight turns, and players can maximize their vehicle's top speed by running over ten pieces of fruit. In addition to acceleration and braking, the go-karts can perform a number of techniques to make each race more competitive for skilled players.
Tumblr media
Players begin the tropical adventure by initially choosing one of eight characters: Crash Bandicoot, Dr. The Adventure mode is the main aspect of play, and it involves trying to beat a surly alien named Nitrous Oxide in a tournament spanning 16 races. Five game modes include Adventure, Time Trial, Arcade, Vs., and Battle. Crash is joined by his sweetheart Coco, the evil Cortex, and a combination of animal friends and dastardly bosses from previous games, each individually rated in speed, acceleration, and handling.
The famous orange marsupial returns for a fourth and final game on the PlayStation, this time from behind the wheel of a go-kart.
Title: CTR Crash Team Racing: Nitro-FueledĬrash Bandicoot N.
Compete against 3 of your best friends in split-screen mode or challenge the entire world in online mode with leaderboards.
Rev your engine, collect Wumpa-Fruit and chase your opponents with wicked power-ups.
Tumblr media
An absolutely comprehensive selection of racers, vehicles and circuits awaits you and your friends.
Tumblr media
In addition, the game has been beefed up and tuned to an extraordinary level of performance.
The fun racing game Crash Bandicoot Racing: Nitro-Fueled for Playstation 4 naturally offers everything we recognise and love from the original game.
The authentic racing experience of the 90s shines in new splendour and offers a new online mode and all kinds of new vehicles and racers. The arcade racing game is a complete remake and has been pimped graphically and in terms of content. Put the pedal to the metal and engage in furious head-to-head races with all the well-known characters of the wacky Crash Bandicoot universe.

Crash bandicoot 2 cold hard crash all boxes
Tumblr media
Oh, and unless you get another checkpoint, dying after respawning from the above will make the game remember the true amount of crates. However, it's possible for the box count to reach more than the level expects you to have, making you unable to get the "destroy all crates" gem, so one should watch out for the box count as they respawn and go to the level's finish while breaking just the right amount of crates. This allows the player to get more crates without taking the harder-to-get ones, allowing for easier box completion. This glitch is only possible if you have numerous enough crates in the bonus round and/or the bonus round finish platform brings you quickly enough to the main level. You can then break those same crates again and the game will still count them. That's normal, but what's not normal is that, due to the game still adding the box count after you respawn the crate count now counts both the crates in the bonus level and any of those crates that you broke before the bonus round, the latter of which normally shouldn't happen. You'll then respawn in the most recent checkpoint you made (or the start of the level, if you didn't break any) with the boxes between the bonus level and the checkpoint (that you might've broken) intact. note It occurs if you finish a bonus level, then die before all of box count of the bonus level are added to the level's total box count. You can also reduce the number of runs needed for Air Crash from 4 to just 2 by dying after getting the Death Route gem along with the crystal and finishing on the secret warp for Snow Go. This also allows you to get the purple gem in Bee-Having without getting through the rest of the secret path and get 2 gems at the same run from Turtle Woods, Hang Eight, Plant Food, Cold Hard Crash, and Spaced Out when you normally need separate runs for each of them. Since extra lives are handed out like confetti, simply killing yourself the moment you get a gem from an alternate path seems far more appealing than backtracking manually. Once you collect a crystal or gem, it will remain in Crash's inventory as long as he remains in the level, even after he dies. This is the source of many Sequence Breaking in the game. This can be done with the slide-jump (which isn't a glitch) for an even higher jump. You jump, then you immediately spin, causing Crash to jump higher than normal. The same moment in "Un-Bearable" is also avoidable, but this time, with a simple slide jump. In fact, this trick was one of the many objects of this game's Tool-Assisted Speedrun, kindly demonstrated here. Gameplay Derailment: Trying to grind some more lives on Turtle Woods? You think the moment when you fall into pit with cyberrats is annoying? Well, there is a legit way which, if it doesn't work at first, is possible to pull off with some skill: just jump above the pit through the faux-walls.Even Better Sequel: Many agree that Crash 2 and Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped are much better designed and more enjoyable than the original game, representing the pinnacle of the series, introducing most of the characters fans are familiar with. The only thing that makes the battle challenging is the awkward jetpack controls and the limited time to finish him off. And the final boss battle is extremely anticlimactic - Crash just chases after him and spin-attacks him three times, and he doesn't even attempt to defend himself or fight back. The final boss battle against Cortex is based around the jetpack mechanic - as in, the mechanic that was only introduced five levels ago in a game 25 levels long. Additionally, the camera is positioned directly behind Crash rather than above him facing downwards, as in the other levels, which makes discerning the relative positions of obstacles even harder than it ought to be. In contrast to the rest of the game's free-flowing fast-paced platforming, the jetpack uses a completely different control scheme to the rest of the game, is awkward and finicky to use, and requires the player to move extremely slowly and carefully around tightly enclosed areas. Disappointing Last Level: The final warp room introduces the jetpack mechanic, which is featured in two of the last five levels.Never mind in-game, considering how obviously shady he is while interacting with Crash. Captain Obvious Reveal: Cortex being the game's Big Bad and betraying Crash can be easily deduced by just looking at the game's subtitle. It makes a Blackout Basement, of all things, feel hard to get lost in, it offers a creative Bonus Stage that feels like an Auto-Scrolling Level you're in complete control over, and its music is also the credits music, serving to give off the sense of finality in the stage. For a Secret Level, it sure as heck feels fair and accommodating.

Spyro the Dragon Review.
Release date: 9th September 1998 NA, October 1998 EU.
Developer: Insomniac Games.
Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment, Universal Interactive Studios.
Tumblr media
Ok, I have been putting off doing this for way too long…
Back in 1999 for my 7th birthday I got my first Playstation as an early birthday present. I remember being incredibly impatient for one reason or another until my parents went “Fine, here, this’ll shut you up and keep you occupied.” And it did. I had already gotten a SNES from my uncle when I was 6 which blew my infant mind, but getting the Playstation had solidified video games being a prominent part of my life.
One game in particular that was special to me was Spyro 2 Gateway to Glimmer (or Ripto’s Rage in the US). I was very possessive of that game as a kid… Then I got Spyro 3.
But I never played the first one…
I remember seeing it in a Playstation magazine after I had got Spyro 2 and for some reason it astounded me that there was another one that came before it. I mean, I was a kid. Anything new would bewilder and fascinate me. I remember it clearly that it was a screenshot of the beginning of the Toasty level and Terrace Village. Also there was a Tekken 3 article in that magazine too of that little dinosaur, Gon.
Anyway, fast forward to about 2012. I had just gotten a PS1 emulator working on my laptop and gotten a PS2 for my dad. I still kept a hold of my PS1 memory card from when I was a kid that still had Digimon World 2003 and a couple other saves on it. And I still got that blue card today. That’s when I decided to get back all the games I had lost as a child to play on the PS2, starting with Spyro 2. BUT, the lady I bought it from on ebay mis-advertised the game and I ended up getting the first Spyro. It wasn’t what I wanted at all, but I had never gotten to play it all these 13 years since I first got my Playstation. So I wasn’t one to complain. I messaged the seller, told her it was the wrong one “Oh, haha, ok send it back and I’ll get you a refund” but it was a Friday afternoon. So before I went to send it back the following Monday I blasted through that game on my PS1 emulator on my laptop and made the most of it. I know I could’ve used the PS2 but whatever.
And I’m so happy I mistakenly got the first one.
Tumblr media
It was exactly like being a kid again to when I first played Spyro 2. The soundtrack by Stewart Copeland immediately sticking and playing songs on loop in my head, the atmosphere it laid out, controlling Spyro for the first time in a long while and the first time ever in his first title, setting everything on fire, charging everywhere (because you don’t just walk everywhere in a Spyro game, you have to charge), but also there was a wealth of new things to the game that was very different to what I was accustomed to in Spyro 2.
You go through the game freeing crystalized dragons, collecting all the gems, catching all the eggs, doing the time trials for more gems, beating all the bosses and beating Gnasty Gnorc. By the end of it you can get 120% completion.
With Spyro’s controls, you charge, you glide, you breath fire, you charge faster, you fly forever until you hit a giant lighthouse, and you plummet to your death at the push of a button.
I was so used to pressing X to glide then triangle to do a little hover for an extra boost of height in Spyro 2 and 3, but that was never a thing in this. You press triangle after a glide and you plop down on the ground. So many times when I first played it did I mess that up, especially in Alpine Ridge. I go to glide across a giant chasm, feel I’m not quite going to make it so I instinctively press triangle for a last bit of extra height and—nope, let’s just turn gliding off.
You glide along, you soar! Whee! It’s fun! Triangle and turn it off. Foomp. Shit…
But honestly it didn’t take that long after a while to learn that triangle=bad when gliding in this. Do it all you wish in 2 and 3 but this, noooooo.
Either way, gliding was just as fun as the other 2 games. I feel like it was refined in 2 and 3 more, obviously, but it was definitely satisfying to do. Which a lot of what you can do as Spyro feels like, it’s satisfying. It’s a joy to run and fly and play around and jump about as Spyro. For the most part it has great controls to play as Spyro and I never had any problems controlling the lovable purple dragon.
Although, if you were to charge down a line of 6 enemies in a row, you see them all lined up and think “Yessss, I know exactly what I’m going to do!” You go to knock them all down but sometimes it doesn’t entirely work because it feels like after you hit one and go to hit the second behind him it feels like you roll off of the enemies and have to almost fight to keep Spyro in a straight line. So you can’t satisfyingly knock down the whole row of enemies like you want to. Otherwise you miss one and it kinda takes the fun out of what you wanted to do.
But yeah, beyond those two complaints Spyro controls so well it feels too good to play around as him, and it’s important that you enjoy playing as the character you’re stuck with for the next 6-8 hours, otherwise what’s the point?
Also, with being able to roll side to side. I don’t understand why they took that out in 2 and 3. That came in so useful against bosses in this game they could’ve easily used that mechanic again in the later games, but they didn’t. I liked it and I thought what the others would have been like if they implemented that move. Oh well…
Tumblr media
The soundtrack I’m not sure I could say anything more to it that hasn’t already been said the past 20 years for it (shit, it’s been 20 years already…). It’s good! It’s wonderful! It’s so joyful, bouncy and uplifting and so fitting for the universe of Spyro that it feels almost like no other could’ve done it better than Stewart Copeland. It’s like outside of the Police that’s what he was meant to do. He put so much energy and attitude and enthusiasm and creativity into each track to accentuate the atmosphere and tone of each level he’s done more than a marvellous job of it. And his soundtracks only got better later on for 2 and 3.
But what sold me and captured me was Lofty Castle and Haunted Towers tracks. That’s when I had to stop myself playing to take in what I was seeing and listening to and thought to myself “I am in love with this game.” And I didn’t want the level to end. I hadn’t felt that way about a game in such a long time I felt robbed of not having more frequently felt that feeling.
Tumblr media
And for its levels, the Artisan homeworld and its levels available there are perfect opening levels. Easy enough difficulty, access to how each enemy works and a safe enough environment for you to figure out how to deal with them without being too pampering. But the look and design of the Artisan homeworld and its levels are very good. Bright, colourful (throughout the whole game really), inviting and laid out all for you to run about and play in and explore. Which is what the whole game is designed for you to do. To play.
The Beast Maker’s homeworld and its levels I think is the only place I didn’t like. They all seemed a bit murky and muddy and almost grimy. It still had charm and fun to be in, definitely, but with its colour schemes I felt I just wanted to get through them and move onto the next world and hope for something brighter. In fact, while I’m at it, most levels and its designs and even its enemies and bosses do have this “first time doing this” feel to them which can be pardoned given its execution. They got better though.
And that’s when I got to the Dream Weavers homeworld and its levels. Like I already said, once I got to Lofty Castle and Haunted Towers I fell in love with this game and its design. It gave me the warm fuzzy happy feeling I got as a kid and I loved it. Hell, playing the levels again now and even just listening to the tracks makes me feel giddy! Once a game can do that to me in some way or another it has me captivated, I’m helpless to it. That’s what made me a fan of this game.
Now the boss fights are the most interesting I’ve come across in a platformer.
All the ones I had been acquainted with were Spyro 2 and 3 (ok, I got to stop referencing those I feel), Crash Bandicoot, Mario Sunshine, and numerous others I can’t really think to name off the top of my head. But still, no other game I’ve played had done boss fights like Spyro.
The first is Toasty, who is just a joke and I definitely don’t mean that in a bad way. He’s set out as this scary scarecrow with a fleet of wolves, or dogs. I seem them as wolves. You flame, roll and flame again to defeat the wolves and then you get Toasty all on his own. You flame him and then… it’s a sheep on stilts. You don’t expect that. You’ve gone in all raring and prepared for a tenacious boss fight but then you get this for your first boss and it’s just “Oh… Alright.” I didn’t expect it going in. I went in on this game blind knowing almost nothing about it. But it’s well executed and so funny to come across and for kids I’m sure that would get many a heavy laugh.
Doctor Shemp felt like the first actual boss with a proper video game-y rhythm to him that you had to learn to defeat him. You jump and flame his behind. Easy stuff.
Blowhard was cool but his design didn’t really stand out, same with the rest of them really, Metalhead and Jacques. They were serviceable and the battles themselves are perfectly fine, especially how their levels are laid out as full levels and then the boss battle at the end, but how they look they don’t really stand out.
Metalhead’s battle was cool though. I liked that one.
And then Gnasty Gnorc.
He was honestly pretty challenging at first, what with chasing down the egg thieves to get the keys first. Which! The egg thieves were honestly not that hard to get throughout the game… At all… They were so easy. I can understand struggling as a kid getting them, but these days they’re just not that difficult as you remember them to be. Spyro 3 however, the egg thieves on that, THOSE guys are hard. That’s how people remember the egg thieves to be in Spyro 1 I feel.
Tumblr media
Anyway, you beat Gnasty Gnorc charging through the level over some fairly tricky moving platforms flaming him along the way and then he’s toast. Poof.
After you get 100% you get to raid Gnasty’s Loot and collecting those last little bits of gems and that giant room of purple gems with Gnasty’s mug looking down on you is so rewarding for everything you’ve been through.
On my first playthrough it took me 6 hours to complete. I wanted to see if I could beat that and in my second playthrough on that same weekend I beat it in 5 and a half hours. Recently I managed to complete it all 120% in 5 hours.
It’s not too hard a game when you know what you’re doing but for those going in blind and for a child it’ll definitely give reasonable enough challenge, which is good.
Some other things I liked about it, it basically had no loading screens. I mean it technically does when Spyro is flying from homeworld to level, but for a game to do that before Arkham Asylum claimed to not have loading screens is impressive.
Overall, it’s a fun as hell and straight forward adventure platformer. I’d most definitely recommend playing this. It’s dirt cheap to download these days so go for it.
Also, Tree Tops isn’t that hard at all either. It’s fun as hell charging and flying everywhere once you know where you’re going and how to do it. And I know, I understand where the dread comes from and it’s fine. But come on, when you’re a kid it would be tricky but most of us are in our mid to late 20’s now. We can handle a couple slow moving egg thieves and tree top speedways.
Also also! After sending the game back to the buyer I did buy this game again from another seller later on and this one came with a demo disc too. I still don’t know why I didn’t decide to originally keep it the first time. Maybe it was money. And I did want Spyro 2 more. Oh well…
Where to purchase: Playstation Store (PS3 PSP); £7.99 (Trilogy) £3.99/$5.99 (single)
Ebay; £14.99-£49 (Even £100!! Why?) $20-$150 (20/08/18)

Let’s Play Crash Bandicoot 3 - Part 3
I finished this world a while ago, but couldn't find time to type up my notes until now >.>
Before we can get started on the World 3 levels, we get our meeting with N. Tropy, who introduces himself to us in a haughty manner. He’s very much the refined “Evil Brit” stereotype, and compared to the rest of the scientists, N. Tropy is actually pretty calm and sane. It is a bit weird that, despite being the exciting new character who invented the Time Twister, he’s only the boss of World 3, but let’s see how that turns out.
Level 3-11 Dino Might!
Another prehistoric level. Did I mention last time how jammin’ this background music is?
In this stage we have steam vents all over, and a new enemy that’s like Crash but with a fish tail. He’s not too tough normally, but he seems to track Crash’s movements carefully and really gets in the way during the Time Trial.
I found what looks like the yellow gem platform, but I can’t use it yet, so I can’t get the box gem.
I found an egg that hatched into a baby dinosaur. You can ride the dinosaur, but it’s not an auto scroll section so I’m not sure what the point is.
There’s a triceratops chase at the end of the level, but you are no longer riding the dinosaur at that point.
Level 3-12 Deep Trouble
Looks like there’s a red gem here!
This is another underwater level. There are whirlpool-generating devices throughout that try to suck you in. When you’re on the jet sub, you have to time your movement very carefully so you go past when the whirlpool is momentarily turned off.
There’s some really interesting level design here – near the end is the “! Block”, and by hitting it, it unlocks a path earlier in the level. So you have to backtrack to that, and take the new alternate path. The new path is pretty tricky, but at the very end is the Nitro Explosion crate (fortunately the box gem shows up here rather than at the normal exit). The red gem also shows up here, so this is a really good use of the split path mechanic.
All in all, one of the more challenging levels, especially the Time Trial. You just have to be patient and carefully analyze the timing of enemies.
Since I now have the red gem, I went back to 1-4 Bone Yard where I remembered seeing the red platform. It leads to a harder version of the triceratops chase, with bigger lava pits to jump over, and lots of entangling grass patches to slow you down. It took a few tries but I was rewarded with another clear gem at the end :)
Level 3-13 High Time
There’s a purple gem here! What’s up with N. Tropy hording all the gems?
N. Tropy himself says hi before we start the level, and it’s obvious he’s beginning to get annoyed with me.
This is another Arabian level, at night this time. We have some new obstacles in the form of people throwing fire bombs out their windows, which seems like a public safety violation if you ask me.
There’s lots of flying carpets and bouncy platforms. Having to wait for the platforms to align just right can really make the Time Trial hard.
I found what I think is the first death route so far – weird how they’re so rare compared to Crash 2. This is a difficult side route that leads to the purple gem and an alternate exit.
With the purple gem, I go back to 2-9 Tomb Time. The purple gem door is near the end of the level, and allows access to an alternate path that leads to a clear gem and extra crates. This path rejoins the main one right before the end of the level, but you actually have to backtrack on the main path to get the rest of the crates. Navigating backwards through the traps when you can barely see them is not easy!
Level 3-14 Road Crash
Another motorcycle race. This is a much longer track than before. The other drivers go very fast, and there are pits in the ground everywhere.
I tried to win by just boosting the whole time, but it doesn’t work – you’ll skid around corners and run into the other drivers, so it’s a matter of figuring out what race line to take and what speed to use for each section.
Level 3-15 Double Header
Cortex and Uka Uka pop up to try and intimidate Crash into stopping. Uka Uka seems really mad, but Cortex is almost resigned by this point.
This is a new medieval level, with two-headed lab assistants (whose idea was that?). The only way to beat them is to jump really high and attack their heads, so it’s easier to just go around them.
This is quite a long level, but nothing hard, and the Sapphire relic is really easy. I do appreciate the cool thunderstorm in the background though.
World 3 Boss – N. Tropy
Yup, he’s really mad now! N. Tropy shoots homing projectiles, and laser lines along the floor. Dodging them all is pretty tricky, but I don’t think as bad as Dingodile’s fight was. The stage background changes a couple times throughout the fight, as though we were going into different time periods, but this doesn’t actually affect the battle.
N. Tropy seems to leave his armor behind when he…dies? disappears?
As a reward for winning, I now have the “Death Tornado” spin. We’ll see if this is as fun to use as it looks.
Alarmingly, Uka Uka and Cortex yell at us for defeating N. Tropy, saying that without him the Time Twister will collapse. But considering there’s still 10 more levels to go, I’m sure it’ll be fine...

15 Hardest PlayStation 2 Games of All-Time
https://ift.tt/3ymumBc
Over 155 million PlayStation 2s have been sold to date, but few of those 150+ million PS2 owners have ever come close to beating the beloved console’s hardest games.
Sure, the PS2 may have helped make 3D games significantly more “playable,” and yes, it did slowly pull us away from the era of absurdly difficult arcade-style games, but it was also the console that seemingly inspired a new generation of developers to ask “What does the future of incredibly difficult games look like?”
Their answers include a driving game where mistakes are not an option, a rhythm game harder than actually learning an instrument, a beat-em-up that beats you up, and more of the absolute hardest PS2 games ever made.
15. Stuntman
Stuntman rides that line between “broken” and “designed to be difficult,” but I feel like this unique driving game is still playable enough to be rightfully recognized as one of the PS2’s most difficult experiences.
Stuntman is defined by the kind of razor-thin margin of error you typically don’t see outside of the toughest bullet hell shooters. This is an already mechanically challenging driving game made worse by the fact you only have a couple of seconds to react to frustratingly vague on-set stunt requests. It forces you to embrace that brand of trial and error gameplay that would be impossible to endorse if the novelty of playing as a movie stuntman wasn’t so appealing.
14. Manhunt
Manhunt is a grindhouse classic that deserves more love than it typically receives, but like so many stealth titles of this era, it’s also a maddeningly frustrating game that may have chased off more than a few potential fans with its unforgiving gameplay.
While you’re technically allowed to make a mistake in Manhunt, most players will find that the odds of recovering from those mistakes are so low that you might as well hit reset the moment that you’re caught. Oh, and this game’s “Hardcore” difficulty mode is even more brutal than the fictional snuff movie you’re supposedly participating in.
13. Pac-Man World 2
There are two kinds of people in this world. Those who see Pac-Man World 2 on a list of hard games and think “What?” and those who hear the name Pac-Man World 2 and immediately unlock a treasure trove of painful memories.
Some of Pac-Man World 2’s levels are pretty challenging in their own right, but only those who have tried to 100% this game know how hard it really is. While I’ve since seen people beat this game’s toughest time trials, there was a point in my life when I was ready to believe they were actually impossible. If this was a Crash Bandicoot game, it’d arguably be the hardest Crash Bandicoot game ever.
12. God of War
While not the most difficult 3D action game of the PS2 era (we’ll talk about those games in a second), it’s sometimes easy to forget just how hard the original God of War really was.
God of War’s combat is more than enough to keep you on your toes, but what puts this one over the top is the section where you have to climb a rotating tower of spikes and blades in order to escape the afterlife. This section belongs in the Hall of Fame of frustratingly difficult platforming challenges in non-platforming games.
11. Airblade
Airblade was unfairly dismissed as a Tony Hawk knockoff at the time of its release, but this game actually had quite a few things going for it that helped it stand apart. Having said that, Airblade could have been a significantly less difficult game if developer Criterion Software had only borrowed some of THPS’ better ideas.
The biggest offenders here are Airblade’s time limits and the structure of its challenges. Like classic THPS games, Airblade tasks you with completing a number of objectives in every level within a certain time limit. Unlike THPS, Airblade makes you complete all of those objectives in one perfect run before the time limit expires. Even “good” gamers will have a hard time overcoming the mental exhaustion of repeating the same challenges over and over.
10. Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter
The Breath of Fire games tend to be pretty challenging, but even this series’ biggest fans will usually concede that Dragon Quarter abuses whatever privileges the franchise may otherwise enjoy in that department.
Dragon Quarter’s early challenges are tough enough for those who go into this game with some understanding of how it all works, but the fact that most people are expected to overcome them while learning this game’s unique (and complicated) mechanics is just too much. Some of the game’s later boss fights even have a way of making you feel like you still don’t understand what you’re doing even when you’re a lowly level one character all over again.
9. Gitaroo Man
While Guitar Hero 3 deserves a little love for the absurd difficulty of its final song tier (not to mention the infamous “Through the Fire and Flames”), the PS2’s hardest rhythm game will always be Gitaroo Man.
Most of Gitaroo Man offers relatively reasonable challenges for dedicated rhythm gamers, but this game’s Master Mode challenges are just shy of physically impossible. Actually, “physical” is a great way to describe this game’s difficulty, as anyone who isn’t able to endure quite a bit of hand pain will probably never be able to 100% this one.
8. Jak 2
While Jak 2 is a fairly difficult game all the way through, I’d say about 80% of this Naughty Dog classic is actually fairly well-balanced and should be accessible to action-adventure/platformer fans of various skill levels.
As you probably figured out, it’s the other 20% of the game that earns Jak 2 its reputation as well as a spot on this list. There’s a handful of difficulty spikes in this game that will leave you wondering whether you’ve done something wrong or somehow accidentally changed a setting. It certainly doesn’t help that this game’s checkpoint system often forces you to replay some of those sections over and over again.

7. Black
Black is another one of those games that’s hard to rank in terms of difficulty due to the extreme differences between its various difficulty settings. If you’re a somewhat seasoned FPS gamer playing Black on “Easy” or “Normal,” you’ll probably find that this game doesn’t offer many challenges that you aren’t able to overcome through the usual amount of persistence.
Black is an entirely different beast on “Hard” and “Black Ops” settings, though. It’s bad enough that you can be killed by a gentle breeze in those modes, but the fact you’re asked to complete additional objectives while navigating a buffet of bullets is downright cruel.
6. Godhand
There’s never really been another action game quite like Godhand. This bizarre beat-em-up combines elements of 3D action games like Devil May Cry with classic arcade brawlers, but emphasizes learning the patterns of individual enemies rather than mowing down waves of foes. To make things worse, the game features a twist on the old “tank control” system that forces you to adapt to a much slower pace than you’re typically used to seeing in these kinds of games.
Put it all together, and you’ve got a game that is constantly forcing you to learn new tricks just to survive. If you’re not the kind of gamer than can pull off complicated fighting game combos in the heat of battle, you might not be able to survive this truly unique action game.
5. Armored Core: Last Raven
“Difficult” is obviously the first word that comes to mind when I think of FromSoftware games, but the second would have to be “balanced.” For a studio that is obviously pretty well known for making hard games, most FromSoftware titles are actually surprisingly well-balanced.
Then there’s Armored Core: Last Raven. While I have to give FromSoftware credit for making an Armored Core game that challenged even the series’ most dedicated fans, the way this game essentially forces you to master even the most seemingly minor mechanics all but ensures that only those with the right combination of patience and skills will be able to even make progress in it much less dream of beating it.
4. Contra: Shattered Soldier
Saying that a Contra game is hard is just about the hottest take this side of “water is wet,” so the more interesting conversation regarding this series has instead always been “What is the hardest Contra game ever?”
Well, I’d still have to give that honor to Contra: Hard Corps, but Shattered Soldier absolutely belongs in that conversation. This is a pure arcade-style shooter that throws in just enough modern (or somewhat modern) gameplay twists to ensure that even those who consider themselves skilled at retro Contra games will struggle to see the end of one of the PS2’s best action titles.
3. Devil May Cry 3
After establishing the franchise formula in the first Devil May Cry and suffering through a significant sophomore slump in Devil May Cry 2, Capcom decided to get crazy with it and make Devil May Cry 3 arguably the most difficult 3D action game ever.
While it’s true that the original North American release of this game is technically the hardest version (due to the fact that Capcom raised the difficulty of every optional setting before reverting that decision in subsequent re-releases), it really doesn’t matter which version of this game you play. This is an absolute masterpiece in difficult game design, and I love the Devil May Cry team for everything that it is just as I kind of hate them for the same reason.
2. Maximo: Ghosts to Glory
The developers of Maximo: Ghosts to Glory were seemingly determined to see whether or not it was possible to translate the kind of absurd 2D-style difficulty the Ghosts and Goblins games were known for into a 3D environment. In the process, they created something that may be even more difficult than those legendarily challenging 2D classics.
Ghosts to Glory’s combat is as difficult as you’d expect it to be given this game’s pedigree, but this time around, you’ve got to also deal with a surprising amount of frustrating platforming sections that will have you falling down endless pits time and time again. This game may look “slower” than the original Ghost and Goblins adventures, but in its own way, it doesn’t let you breathe for a second.
1. Shinobi
I’ll stand by anyone who argues that Shinobi is one of the most creative, underrated, and overall best 3D action games ever made. Having said that, I can not in good conscience talk about this game without mentioning that it’s the kind of difficult that will make 90% of people rightfully give up on it after only a few hours (or even minutes).
What makes Shinobi so difficult? Let me count the ways:
A sword that slowly drains your life if you’re not killing enemies
Fairly common enemies that can block nearly all of your attacks
Platforming sections that demand nothing short of perfection
An infuriating lack of mid-level checkpoints
Boss battles that often combine the game’s hardest combat and platforming mechanics
A lock-on system that is necessary for success but often leads to your accidental death
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
People who live for hard games will often admit that Shinobi is sometimes too difficult for its own good, which is honestly kind of an achievement in and of itself.
