Crack theory for how wtfock s4 premiere clip will go down: Am gonna jump off another crack theory presented today by @starual18. I think wtfock will open with Jana’s leaving party. Gotta say bye to our girl the right way ya know. Parties are great too because in wtfock that allows for multiple camera angles and povs at once. Keeps the audience on their toes. I think the camera is gonna shift a lot during the party leaving the almighty main question unclear. Am pretty sure even after the 1st clip drops we wont know the answer to our main question. The fandom will explode as we always do and the social engagement will begin. This is total headcanon btw I think clip 2 or 3 will be a phone or alarm going off at 07:27 (cuz wtfock loves a good callback to the last season).
Wtfock is def gonna try to troll us so be prepared for even then to be seeing the mains room via their eyes directly so the audience pov is us in a room we dont recognize at all. Walking through a house we have never seen. I think we dont finally see the main until they step into their bathroom and we finally catch a glimpse of them looking back at us in the mirror or maybe checking out their outfit before heading out for the day. Once wtfock reveals the main be prepared for there to be a long wait for the next clip because wtfock will try to milk all the social engagement they can out of this moment.
**Bonus head canon** I think while everyone is tweeting, posting and insta-ing about the main wtfock is gonna throw us a curve ball in the form of social content which is gonna leave everyone like this 🤔😳🤡 while wtfock is like this 😈🙃.

Shiro back in Black is *FORWARD* story development
Thought I’d make a title for once to pique peoples’ interests. I mean, that statement is probably a rare opinion. I’ve seen many individuals comment that they felt Shiro’s return to Black in S4 was a cop-out, “too soon,” convoluted mess, or backwards step in storytelling (especially concerning Keith’s characterization as a Paladin). And while at first I found the writers’ choice weird, I sat back to rewatch S3... and lo and behold everything clicked.
This is actually a really smart move and smooth storytelling point on the writers’ part to put Shiro in Black for S4.
The gap between Seasons 3 and 4 I think have thrown many of us. Though we understand that S3+S4 = the length of S1 alone, many of us have treated these seasons so separately that the broader plot arc of 3 / 4 got passed over. This was passed over also because of the time gap... while waiting for S4 to premiere, our minds got solidified in the current state of S3... thus treating the events of S3 as though they were more permanent, resolute, and long-lasting than they were. I mean, there was so little permanent about 3... it was only seven episodes, after all! And only in five of those did we see Keith in Black.
For I noticed a trend in how people theorized about future Black Paladins. Pre-S4 predictions about the Black leader mainly followed the lines of:
Keith always stays in Black and the lion switch of S3 is permanent.
The Paladin team grows in their new lions and learns new lessons. Once they have matured as people, they more or less return to the original configuration.
And then there are theories about a sixth lion, Paladins constantly swapping depending upon needs per mission, etc.
Now the thing is, ideas #1 and #2 always felt to me as... problematic... concerning either Keith or Shiro’s character development.
If we go with #1, Keith gets a brilliant character arc where he grows into a leader. He is forced into a leadership role and has to become someone great. But Shiro would easily be shafted in this route. It would be very hard to write a satisfactory character arc for Shiro without him returning to Black. It would be hard to get a sense of growth for his character upon permanently leaving as Voltron tream leader. Not to mention... the S2 plot arc of Shiro trying to bond with Black was only just making headway when he disappeared. So #1 shafts Shiro’s characterization.
If we go with #2, then Keith, Lance, and Allura allegedly would return to their old lions. It again could easily feel like a step back, especially for Keith and Allura. A story introducing Keith as “a leader with potential” cannot have him tossed back to second-in-command and never actualizing as leader. He has to become that leader for the story to make sense.
These theories all have something in common that I only realized with S4 in retrospect. These ideas assumed that the lion switch is what would stimulate Paladin character growth. But with Keith, it’s not simply that piloting Black will characterize him into leadership. Rather, S3-4 suggest there’s also the idea that learning leadership will characterize Keith into piloting Black. We got it swapped!
And Keith isn’t at that point to take such command of Black. Not yet. But because we assumed that Keith being in Black was how he would become actualized as a leader, it felt like a step backward or a reverting to “the original” when Shiro flew Black in S4. It felt like taking away that character growth of how Keith could become leader... something that desperately needs to happen in storytelling.
Lots of people seem to be disjointed by Shiro returning to Black, especially so soon before his psychological struggles are resolved. Lots of people seem disjointed by Keith leaving Black so soon, especially since he only just began to demonstrate any good leadership at all. It seems like a step backwards to undo the little Keith was beginning to do, and to simply default back to what we’re “used to” with Shiro. Overall it can feel the writers took away change and progress.
But no. That’s not the actual arc of S3 / 4. We didn’t take a step backward. We didn’t return to the default Black Paladin in a muddy, useless tangle of plot. We’ll never get back to S1′s status. Instead, the writers did something cool and progressive, moving the plot forward in a neat and linear progression.  Check out what’s been happening when we actually look at S3-4 as one unit:
Season 1: Shiro is the clear, dominant, uncontested leader of Voltron. There’s no question about it and basically nothing to suggest otherwise.
Season 2: Shiro is still the clear, dominant, uncontested leader of Voltron... but there’s a new suggestion that someone else might have the potential to lead someday. Shiro suggests Keith as a replacement just in case anything goes wrong.
Season 3 / 4:  Keith gets that taste of leading alone, but emotionally doesn’t feel ready, opts out, and the command continues with Shiro. Shiro can still pilot the Black Lion and act as a good Voltron leader, but cracks are developing. He’s no longer the clear, dominant, uncontested leader. Keith is now something that has to be considered because he can pilot Black, too.
Nothing is ever going to return to the old S1 standard. Keith versus Shiro flying Black is a problem with much more development to come. S4 contributes rather than degrades the development of the situation, in fact, by throwing in the detail both can pilot Black. That’s a lot more complicated with more questions than just, “Oh, now we have a different pilot: it’s Keith.”
See the progression that’s happening? It’s like there’s a slow gradient of black to white. We started in black, then slowly have transitioned to dark grey, then a more average grey. Slowly, the story is building cracks into the idea of Shiro being the one, dominant Paladin of Black. Slowly, the story is building Keith into the idea he can be leader of Voltron. It’s not by shoving Keith into the Black position that he becomes leader... but by growing him into the position to pilot Black.
We have to have this starting point of Keith’s first time in Black... where he’s not ready and leaves... where it still feels as though Shiro is “it”... but where we are starting to see the questions...
By having Keith get a taste of Black but not ultimately take Black on permanently in S3 / 4, we fall into the grey zone between black and white. We show the first glimpses of what it can be like as Keith in Black. The story doesn’t just close up that concept of him flying Black then and there in S3, and then we say, “Keith’s in Black, done deal, he has to learn, Shiro has to cope.” We didn’t just snap one Paladin into another Lion, done deal, black to white with no gray in between. Instead, the idea of who is the rightful Paladin of Black becomes a growing, morphing, black to grey to white gradient storytelling point with more nuance, development, and smooth direction. That’s pretty cool and will make for fascinating storytelling, character moments, and more.
Season 3 isn’t meant to feel as solidly “Keith is Black” as it should be. It’s meant to initially fool you because Shiro is gone, but it’s not meant to have this feeling Keith is solidly there because, really, he’s not - he goes in and out of Black quickly. But because we had that big time gap from 3-4, Keith further growing into the role of Black Paladin got solidified in our heads, making it feel all the weirder to see Shiro return “so soon.” But again, if you watch 3 directly into 4, you might see... it’s just that Keith is getting a taste, and the story is slowly building to ask the question of who should rightfully lead Voltron.
Because that’s obviously not a topic that’s done with, between Keith saying Shiro is the rightful Paladin, Shiro saying Keith is the rightful Paladin, yet Keith leaving and Shiro taking position without complaint. Yeah, issue totally not done.
And in this sort of storytelling format, we avoid the awkwardness I mentioned in #1 and #2. We won’t have Shiro’s characterization arc fall flat because he got shafted and put to the side. It won’t feel like this character just disappeared and poof wasn’t a leader and poof wasn’t cool anymore and poof wasn’t progressing anymore with his connection to the Black Lion. And it won’t have Keith’s arc fall flat at all... because this means that Keith will have a long, nuanced, gradual, inclining development into someone who can be a great leader. In fact Shiro returning to Black makes Keith’s characterization into a leader all the richer.
For we see Keith go from someone who isn’t a leader, to someone who is suggested to be a leader, to someone who gets a taste of leadership and rejects it. We create more nuance and steps this way, than just by having a plot where first he’s recommended to be leader, then lo and behold he is leader, and now he learns how to be leader while being leader. The writers are building more. Keith is learning both how to become leader and how to accept being leader this canon way. Keith is progressing just as much about how to become a leader than if he stayed in Black. Furthermore, rejecting leadership and leaving it and seeing Shiro still lead is a cool stage for Keith’s growth! Because S3 / 4 gave Keith the taste of being leader but ultimately not becoming leader, we show that Keith still has so much further to go. We show that there’s an interesting avenue that he might be headed towards... but we still have to wait eagerly to see actualized. We’ve got to get this whole growth going for Keith to learn how to accept leadership - even leadership as a Paladin of Voltron - before we really see him frequently back in action in Black.
And indeed, S4 shows that idea progressing forward of Keith learning leadership and Shiro increasingly being shown not to be the irrevocable leader of Voltron. Shiro makes a big mistake this season. Keith leaves, but learns some responsibility with the Blade of Marmora (rallying back-up? that’s new for him!)... and likely, he’ll continue learning. It might seem like a big, tangled, directionless mess when we focus just on the microcosm that is S4′s six tiny episodes... but looking at the larger plot arc, I am pleased. I think they’ve got great potential to develop this, for Shiro, for especially Keith, and for VLD as a whole.

*cracks knuckles* it has been quite some time since I last did this but here I go!
Theory post for S3 finale and S4 beginning.
(or more like a post where i list the stuff that makes this season seem like it is a circle. No specific guesses for what is gonna go down in the finale because my brain is fried. )
Will include minor spoilers and mentions of mostly Quintis.
Disclaimers
I have not read all spoiler posts/interviews that came out before the wedding, or in recent weeks. (Mainly the Elyes and Kat interviews.) So i might be wrong in some of my guesses. Do let me know if i am wrong in my guesses or that if there were stuff that have been out there that contradicts with what i said!
I believe that @livingwithashipname has mentioned the different aspects of the relationships and how there is a flip so my post might cover some of the same topics/themes as hers. (I am not so sure but i think so??)
I am dying from a lack of sleep due to too many deadlines and submissions so i am not even sure if this post is gonna be coherent. I will try to make this post as clear as i can!
Okay. Let’s start this post by looking back and then linking to the finale. What was the status of the team when S3 started and what is their status now?
S3 premiere: Case was aircraft being hacked and out of the pilots’ control. S3 finale arc: Aircraft was out of the pilot’s control for a short while.
S3 premiere: 2 team members are married. (Happy and Walter) S3 finale arc: 2 team members are married. (Happy and Toby)
S3 premiere: Paige and Tim were off to a place for a holiday-ish and gets interrupted by a case. S3 finale arc: Toby and Happy were supposed to go to Tahiti for a case and honeymoon but the crash happened. (Mainly how they were abroad and something happens.)
S3 premiere: Walter wanted to tell Paige that he loves her. S3 finale arc: Walter tells Paige that he loves her.
S3 premiere: Happy had a secret. Toby trying to find them out. (Her husband’s identity.) S3 finale arc: Toby finds out that she had secrets. Toby trying to find them out.
S3 premiere: Bitter Toby. S3 finale arc: Bitter Toby.
S3 premiere: Happy said that she loves Toby and she don’t lie to him. S3 finale arc: Happy said that she loves Toby and showed that she didn’t lie to him; “I’m not saying i didn’t date him.”.
S3 premiere: Super high tension among the different couples. S3 finale arc: Increasing tension among the team. (Bickering Quintis, friction between Walter and Paige but nothing major. Until the next ep i guess. Lol.)
I think there are more but they are the ones that i can think of for the moment. But i think you guys get the point, yes?
Okay so I do not have a solid theory of what is going to happen in the finale or how it will lead to S4. I know that one of the Nicks said that there is no cliffhanger. But I strongly believe that there will be stuff that are happening in the finale that will lead to the next season. (Somewhat like how Paige kissed Walter, Happy and Toby babysitting Ralph back in S1 finale. They help to set the scene in S2 premiere.) But i have some general guesses (that will probably make you go, “duh. Isn’t that obvious?”) and then i will go into some specific guesses.
They will be back in the garage by the end of the ep.
Which i guessed from one of the interviews where Kat talked about her in a white shirt, the “buckle up nerd” scene and the Twitter saying that we will see Happy’s music video.
One couple will have a bigger link to the next season, and the other couple will obviously have a smaller link to the next season.
I have no idea how i am going to say this in a clear way because it sounds super weird when it exits my brain. But it is mainly like how something will happen to one of the couple that can be resolved in the first few eps. Maybe even the premiere ep. While the other couple will have something that will take eps to resolve.
Eg: the Walter and Paige thing was kinda resolved in the premiere ep. Like the part where Walter wants to confess to Paige was kind of twarted by what happened in S3 premiere. But Happy’s husband identity was only revealed in ep 4, because it would take longer for this thing to be revealed and resolved. (Yes, Walter and Paige essentially took the entire season to confess and understand how they feel about each other. But what i meant was like their issue/situation was addressed in the premiere ep. It showed why they couldn’t be together yet.)
This actually depends on the guess and the theories that i have. But i have near to none, so... But i am going with my gut and going with Walter and Paige having the bigger link to the next season, which will take a couple of eps to resolve.
It may not be a bad thing. Like it can be Walter and Paige getting used to their relationship and there were small things that came up, etc.
It should be tied to something that has been hinted at or mentioned previously. They are doing tons of parallels this season. Like seriously tons of parallels. So i guess that what is going down in this season finale will make me go, “Wait a minute. Wasn’t this mentioned before? HOLY SHIT.”
Okay specific guesses for a good small cliffhanger that makes you want to continue watching the show without killing the writers: a new romance, patching back, pregnancy, (starting of?) a sex scene, dreams, family scenes (like them getting back to the garage and just hanging out), Quintis babysitting Ralph, Bruno appearing, something relating to Toby’s gambling past, something relating to Patrick.
Yeah. I have really no idea. Lol. But for the sake of my sanity, i hope that it isn’t going to be something that is going to make me die over the hiatus.
So that’s it! Do let me know if i have gotten anything wrong, or if you have any thoughts on this post! Also, thank you so much if you have actually read finish this incoherent mess.

The State of the Dean
Round Two of the Great Meta Scavenger Hunt, aka the hold my beer meta challenge, invites us to rank either all the season premieres or all the season finale episodes according to whatever metric we choose. I originally had the notion that I’d write up something Very Serious about Dean’s association with family, and how that’s held him back, helped him move forward, or just how he’s grown over the years. But then I started throwing random cracky listicles directly at Lizbob and she pointed out that maybe instead of sending her season by season crack entries via the bubble message thingy, I should probably just post them here. This is my official entry, but I’ll be posting a(n even) crack(ier) entry, too (just for fun, not for points).
I could write a 12 (or 11 1/2) season long dissertation on the evolution of Dean’s feelings toward family and relationships, but that’s basically my blog. I’ve been informed that the entirety of a blog doesn’t qualify as a “listicle,” so I’ve chosen to select a very small snippet at the very end of each season finale to assess Dean’s state of mind season to season. Here we go!
(ranked as -/12, 1 being Dean’s personal best, and 12 being Dean’s personal worst)
1.22: Seeing as how he was unconscious in the back seat of the Impala and being rushed to the hospital, I think he was in a pretty grave state (hur hur grave). 7/12 just for the fact that he was literally unconscious and wouldn’t remember it anyway
2.22: On the surface, this seems like a VAST improvement over his state in 1.22. He’s walking upright and fully conscious, for one. He’d finally gotten revenge on the demon who’d killed his mother. He got to see John escape from Hell and head off toward, theoretically, heaven. Not everything was hunky-dory, of course. They’d managed to slam the Hellgate shut again, but not before a bunch of other demons escaped into the world. Oops? Oh, and there was the small matter involving the sale of his soul to hell and the fact he’s only got one year to live. Kinda problematic there, Dean. 3/12 (just for the Major Win Factor of killing Yellow Eyes. He’ll push the rest down until he can’t ignore it any longer, but for the time being it was a win)
3.16: The writer’s strike shortened season ended on a particularly low note for Dean. Torn apart by hellhounds and consigned to hell. Yes. A “low note” indeed. 12/12 i mean really how does it get worse than this?
4.22: Good news: Dean’s not in hell. Bad news: Hell came to Earth. That’s right, Lucifer’s on the loose. Also notable because of the MAJOR rift between Sam and Dean, trust issues, demon blood addiction, and hubris, basically. It’s not all bad, because at least Dean’s got a friend (oops until he’s blown up, but it’s okay. Cas will be fine in a day or two...) 9/12 LUCIFER IS WALKING THE DAMN EARTH FFS
5.22: Possibly worse than being in hell: thinking Sam is stuck in a small box in hell with Lucifer. It’s so bad that Dean essentially walks away from everything he’s ever known or loved to join the White Picket Fence league with a woman he’s spent a grand total of four days of his entire life with. Let me repeat: He gave up HIS ENTIRE LIFE to completely reinvent himself WITH SOMEONE HE BARELY KNEW. Just to save himself from having to think about the ~entirety of his life to that point~. Talk about fucking depressing. 12/12 yes this might be cheating but I couldn’t decide which would be worse for Dean-- Sam in Hell or him in Hell. So, tie.
6.22: Yeah, Cas’s plan to stop the Apocalypse Reboot worked, but with one VERY BIG DRAWBACK. Baby’s wrecked, Sam’s crazy, and Cas has literally let all that newfound power go straight to his head. Dean’s adrift again. No amount of juggling can keep all those balls in the air. (BALLS!) 8/12 Owie
7.23: Sure, he and Cas got Dick, but landed themselves in Purgatory for their troubles. So, one huge win, and one huge loss. 5/12 because hey, win! but also wtf gorilla wolves and Cas flaps off to who tf knows where
8.23: A little forgiveness, a little abandonment. He stopped Sam from finishing the Hell Trials, but Cas flew off before he could stop him from falling into Metatron’s trap, and now he’s got a half-dead Sammy, the nearly human King of Hell in his trunk, and no idea what happened to Cas. (honestly Dean here makes me think of Homer Simpson that time Lisa pushed his pig down the hill and he chased after it until it launched through the air shouting “It’s just a little airborne! It’s still good! It’s still good!” and that just makes me wanna cry okay) 10/12 for the most airborne roasted pigs ever at one time
9.23: *flish* but hey at least he’s not dead-dead, right? I think this is the one time where Dean *in that moment* (if we could interview Dean at the end of each season finale and ask his current state of mind) would’ve said he’d felt better than he ever had before. Because his feelings were kinda... non-existent. So while it was probably like a little vacation from the burden of being Dean Winchester for him, for us it meant five months of anguish (and laughing through our anguish with crack theories about him getting stuck in demon traps and getting tricked into drinking holy water) 2/12 (from Dean’s pov at least, at the time)
10.23: Well, he’d just killed Death, which is kind of one of those nervous laughter what the fuck have I done major life reevaluation moments in itself, but then ZAP the Mark of Cain is gone. He gets five minutes to feel good about all of that when oops, Something Is Seriously Wrong, and we have the Darkness. At least he’s 100% back to being himself after a year and a half fighting against the Mark... or is he? 4/12 for serving Death his last meal and finally getting free of the mark... sort of
11.23: He’s resigned himself to the fact that he needs to die, but then he manages to Dr. Phil God and the Darkness into reconciliation. Definitely a high point in Dean’s life. As far as he knows, all his friends and family are safe, even if said friends and family don’t know yet that HE’S safe. And that he’s bringing home an unexpected guest in the form of his resurrected mother. It’s all a little overwhelming and happy and he doesn’t exactly know where to even BEGIN processing it all.  1/12 for major successes all around (since he doesn’t know Sam’s been abducted yet)
BONUS: since we don’t know where the winds of s12 will blow, but we do know where the midseason finale left us:
12.08: MAJOR win on tossing Lucifer back into the cage. MAJOR loss on getting tossed into the human version of the cage. 6/12 for being pretty well balanced, the bad against the good.
So, to recap, season finales in order of Dean’s Personal Best to Dean’s Personal Worst:
s11
s9
s2
s10
s7
s12 (at the midseason finale)
s1
s6
s4
s8
and tied for last place, s3 and s5.
