The Tree of Names/Fall of Avalir!
Big thanks to @eldritchblep for letting me use her art as inspiration & the entire cast of EXU for such an amazing story 💜💜
Pattern and cross-stitch by me~
Size: approx 11x16.5” on 18 count Aida
Stitch count: 58,500
Only thing I’m sad about is that the shiny portions don’t show up with in the photo.

I was initially clipping this to capture the overwhelmingly accurate, absolutely devastating hilarity of "you went for realistic, and sadly, you nailed it". And then just kept recording because I really fucking love the discussion about how to balance the line between like:
You are trying to tell a story that feels good and gives you the kind of lift you might be looking for in an explicitly fantasy story,
vs
How to ensure it still feels grounded and rewarding in a way where you can "bring this good feeling back to earth" at the end.
Like they're talking about TTRPG's but they clearly make parallels to other forms of storytelling/worldbuilding mediums, like movies, and. like. Yeah. Yeah.
Like the framing of "you really recreated the feeling of powerlessness..." and wanting the fantasy element to manifest in there being the clearer, straightforward ways to solve complex issues, vs trying to ensure that you can have a victory and it feels feasible and substantial and applicable in some way, and has something you can take out of the fantasy world and hold with you back on "terra firma".
Its tricky! Its a tricky thing to balance, and I don't think there's a single "right" answer nor should there be because it depends. It depends on the story, and the intent, and the setting, and the medium, and etc. Big fan of this framework to explain it.

This is now your time to be who you are, knowing [..] there's no accolades here. There might not even be a win.
So who are you in your last quiet moments...

It does not take much to get me to talk about how much I love EXU: Calamity but apparently a real easy way to set it off is saying that (or saying other folks said) Sam Riegel can’t do anything but comedy
There is one aspect of Calamity where it is a horror film and Cerrit is the Final Girl
but there is another aspect where it is a shakespearean tragedy and the heart of it is the love story between Laerryn and Loquatius
and while I am a huge Aabria stan, it takes two to tango and Sam more than held up his side of things

So here’s the information the new Worlds Beyond Number update gave us!
The first campaign will be called “The Wizard, the Witch, and the Wild One” and will be DM’d by Brennan Lee Mulligan. It’s been made to feel like “the perfect home game of D&D”
The world of The Wizard, The Witch, and The Wild One campaign has been described as “Verdant” and invoked imagery of “the edge of that old dark forest, down that little dirt road, by the little cottage with the garden, and the old, mean rooster.”
This will be a long form campaign, potentially going on for years, but other shorter campaigns will also be played.
A level 0 world/character building campaign called “The Childrens Adventure” was played to set up the world. It chronicles how the PCs met, and will be available for patreon subscribers starting in March. It will be 12+ hours long.
The next few weeks will get us glimpses of the world and chracters.
Previews for the first campaign will begin to be released in February, first on Patreon, then to the public.

God, I’m just remembering the month or so time period that EXU: Calamity was running. I rewatched some bits and pieces and it all came flooding back. The incredibly essays and character dissections, the fan art, the jokes and laughs, the horrors and countless tears. It was a tough story, but I’m so glad that I experienced such tragedy and beauty with everyone on here.
