Another AU commission for Armando, the author of the Defense Attorney Iris fic on fanfic.net! The fic can be found here:
I tried to emulate the style of AA sprites (mainly Investigations) and I’m happy with the result :)

A Power Unbound

Secrets! Magic! Enemies to… something more? Jack Alston, Lord Hawthorn, would love a nice, safe, comfortable life. After the death of his twin sister, he thought he was done with magic for good. But with the threat of a dangerous ritual hanging over every magician in Britain, he’s drawn reluctantly back into that world. Now Jack is living in a bizarre puzzle-box of a magical London townhouse, helping an unlikely group of friends track down the final piece of the Last Contract before their enemies can do the same. And to make matters worse, they need the help of writer and thief Alan Ross. Cagey and argumentative, Alan is only in this for the money. The aristocratic Lord Hawthorn, with all his unearned power, is everything that Alan hates. And unfortunately, Alan happens to be everything that Jack wants in one gorgeous, infuriating package. When a plot to seize unimaginable power comes to a head at Cheetham Hall—Jack’s ancestral family estate, a land so old and bound in oaths that it’s grown a personality as prickly as its owner—Jack, Alan and their allies will become entangled in a night of champagne, secrets, and bloody sacrifice… and the foundations of magic in Britain will be torn up by the roots before the end.

oh my god. wait. modern au wei wuxian where he went to prison, and when he gets out he works his ass off to become a defense attorney. he's smart as hell and loves finding loop holes and calling people out when they're breaking their own rules. he'd be a fucking menace in the courtroom.

Encounter at Farpoint makes more sense when you've watched an entire most of a season of V.
yes TNG had the 60s writers and Gene Roddenberry were huge part, but the music, directors, production…, I've gotten a lot of whiplash how V's Visitors (in the series specifically) are closing in on early TNG aliens.
Somehow TNG took things that work and didn't in V and incorporated in there.
And by no means should anyone watch V the Series..

So, a major issue with Velma (2023), that I see no one mentioning, is how the show writers think physical and emotional abuse is funny.
At least, if it's a rich white guy; i.e. Fred.
It's all but stated that Fred is a jerk who acts like everyone is beneath him because that is what his father wants him to be. Fred is really nice and polite to Velma's dad when the meeting starts, but one small prompt from his father and he turns into that aggressive, meanspirited man-child once more.
All explained, in a single scene:

And it ends with this one line of dialogue:

Fuck you, show writers. Watching an abused kid, no matter how """privileged""", get dunked on repeatedly and absolutely humiliated in the media, is. not. funny.
Maybe I'm taking this a little too personally for a show like this. But this shit is disgusting, and I just needed to bring this up.

507 is in the running for my least favorite episode, which I think is actually a compliment because I don't hate it, it just feels less funny to me because the singing makes it take longer and lowers the JPM (jokes per minute). also, I do enjoy musicals, but I have to fight a very strong natural cringe response when people start singing in non-musical stuff, even if it's not bad
