Today was such a special day. After some much needed, rather belated spring cleaning, we gathered clothing, shoes, accessories, housewares, toys, cosmetics (unused of course), toiletries, and other necessities to donate to #CourageMKE, an incredible local LGBT charity. This is what gratitude looks like. Nine years of teaching; dozens of events and masterclasses hosted, dozens, if not hundreds more attended. At least 40 Jam sessions in the books. Hundreds of instructors I call my friends, many of whom were students before they became instructors. Thousands of dollars raised for causes, including today for two different organizations. A million breaths I’ve taken in the real world amongst the happiest and kindest people on earth. It’s all in the numbers. They are doing such incredible things in the community and I am so lucky to call them friends and family. Thank you Waxwing crew for being allies and for working so hard so we can support organizations like Courage. And to everyone who shops with us, thanks for supporting us and for allowing us an opportunity to give back. If you weren’t at the Gala tonight, make plans to come next year or give throughout the year as you can to anyone who is making a difference in your community. My sincerest gratitude to everyone who was apart of our open house today & to all the students who walked out today. Your voices are valid and your views are important and action is the key to creating change so well done! We see you and we're inspired & hopeful. Change is coming. To all the artists, makers & professionals who spoke today, thank you! To the musicians, thank you! To those who volunteered their time & led workshops, thank you! To those who shopped, we were able to raise $300 for REDgen so thank you! To everyone who participated in our raffle, thank you! We'll be sending $50 over to @couragemke AND the winner of our Milwaukee Heart was kind enough to donate it so we'll be giving it to the Courage House where future residents can continue coloring it together. I am inspired by this community and I have hope. Tomorrow we turn 6 years old and this year is off to an incredible start ❤️ (at The Waxwing)
