Thailand continues to pull away from mediocre Countries like the Philippines by instituting a new Innovation for the South East Asia (SEA) by doing away with Boarding Passes for Airline Passengers and just using Facial Recognition instead.
This will be implemented on six of their major Airports, and the System will be implemented for Domestic Passengers on November 1, 2024 while it will be implemented for International Passengers on December 1, 2024.
Passengers will be required to show their Identification during Counter or Self Service Check Ins, and once completed they will no longer be required to show their Passports and Boarding Passes all the Way to the Boarding Gate.
Each Registration will be good for each Trip only, another Registration will be required for the next Trip. Note that Vietnam already started using Electronic Gates (E-Gates) with Biometric Authentication last Year of 2023 for ALL of their Airline Flights, but I think those also require Fingerprint Authentication only.
It seems that Thailand’s System is faster as it only requires a Camera and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to identify a Passenger. So again, like always, the Philippines is being left behind in Terms of Innovation again in its Airports …
