he was already aware. but if he didn’t already know before, him running all over the ball to look for the girl would’ve been a sign. 

he and taeyeon had both agreed to keep an eye on anais all night just to make sure she was fine at the ball. the both of them had agreed to take turns on keeping an eye on her, since taeyeon would have some of her own businesses to attend to while at the ball whilst cal also had to spend time with haejin that night. but even if the both of them were busy, they both cared about the other enough to make sure that she was okay. after all, had it not been for them urging her to come, she wouldn’t be there to begin with. and cal didn’t want anais to miss out on something as big as this. 

the last time he saw her was when the both of them were at a table, cal talking to her to help get her mind off of what had happened to her. he left her alone for just a second, saying that he had to take care of something really quick with the ball committee. but then he goes to bother haejin, later getting distracted by jitae. and it’s not their fault because he appreciated their company. but when he returns to the table to not see her there, he immediately looks for taeyeon to see if she’s by her side... only to see that she wasn’t. 

if he didn’t have his realization that one night, he would’ve probably still be enjoying his night. but instead, he finds himself asking numerous students if they had seen her and running around frantically that some people even give him weird looks. it’s not until he finds her outside that his heart feels more at peace. but still, he makes his way to her to express his concerns. 

“annie! i’ve been looking all over for you!” he exclaims through pants as he walks over to her. “i’m really sorry for taking so long to get back to you, but at least stay with taeyeon or something! you had me worried sick!”
