This thought's still cooking, but I think Tomas (Thomas?) Astruc's a good case study on both why being too attached to your character concepts and self-inserts are bad for writing.
I'm not going to really touch on whether or not Chloe deserved a redemption arc, but I do feel confident in saying that Tomas's disdain for her character (and people who found her enjoyable/redeemable) did have a noticeable negative impact on the writing and theme. He couldn't stand the fact that not everyone despised her (and some gasp! liked her), and so turned her into the most grating character possible... to the detriment of literally everything else.
The same could be said for Marinette, though that also ties into my second point. Marinette isn't Tomas's self-insert, she's his self-insert's daughter. Because she's his fictional child, she can never really have any kind of deep flaws - and any deep flaws she does have you're totally imagining and making up! Derision is the prime example for this. Her behavior towards Adrien can't be creepy, that's his daughter original character! So he writes an entire episode that's, imao, kinda demeaning to explain away this "supposed" character flaw.
Had he been more detached from his writing, I think he could have seen these things coming from a mile away. But because he's so deeply entrenched in his own concept, he sort of blinds himself, and when he can't deny them anymore, he has to prove that he's right by handwaving them away.
#miraculous ladybug#miraculoustalesofladybugandcatnoir#marinette dupain cheng#chloe bourgeois#thomas astruc#deserves its own post but i think this is why he didn't take the obvious route to fix his whole#'marinette needs to be the main character but doesn't have any real emotional attachments to the villain' problem#ie. switching adrien and marinette's place#gabriel agreste#couldn't be marinette's father! Thomas's is *nothing* like him!#and whats the point of writing a TV show if your imaginary daughter with your ex can't be the main protagonist?

They made Chat Noir a misogynistic asshole lmao who is this guy, I don't know him (lol wtf are you talking about lmao that's just not true)
None of the characters backstory is exploited nor make sense. Adrien was in school all along? He's not a model? He can stand up to his father like it's normal? Sorry but no(Yea they gave him aspine and gave him and his dad a conclusion)
WHERE IS THE TENSION NONE FOUND HERE. There's an identity reveal that couldn't fall more flat because there's no time to see the characters interact, there's no time to build some tension of sort( Identity reveal was cute and the cliffhanger was clever as hell)
The way they fall in love is just....lame and empty?? Marinette just falls for a guy in a library who asks her if she's alright. Cool. Chat Noir falls for Ladybug after she saved his sorry macho ass and there's no big moment or whatever apart from Careless Whisper playing (Again like wtf with this mysoginistic crap you actually sound like your coping with how bad the show actually is)
The themes were basics and done in the most cliché way (be yourself, not be afraid, loveeee wins etc)
(Worst part of the show is how Astruc indulges in ideas of subverting tropes and then falling flat, so Jeremy going with the classics actually made it interesting)
Marinette wants to be ladybug again because?? Of some song with Tikki??? And that's it? No big moment where she realises she has to stand in or anything. She just suddenly goes 'ok I have to do that' (ok fair)
Don't get me started on the Gabriel/Adrien reveal and their hug and all fjzjjdje anyways ( That was genuinely a good moment and made up for the shit ending of Season 5 lmao your out of your mind)
Marinette's cleverness and what makes her a hero in the series just isn't here. She's not standing out. Zag said fuck u feminism for real
(She had an arc and a conclusion to an arc and it was simple and to the point which is good for a 90 minute movie, unlike the show where we have fake feminism where marinette is always in the right and cat noir is always her lesser. )
The more you explain yourself the more I realize how bad the show is and what it could offer if Thomas wasn't around. You can shit on Zag for being rich but the dude supplied me with what I wanted and gave it to me when Thomas floundered all that build-up for nothing. You can act all uppity all you want but this just confirmed that people still coping and that this show is still any good like the movie, while those who hate the show can appreciate it for what it can be.
Well if you're just gonna salt about the show in my inbox you can leave then 👋👋👋
#ask#anon#awakening spoilers#awakening#awakening salt#ml fandom salt#& don't call me out for salting on the movie this is my blog and you came asking 🤷♀️

Thoughts and Reactions to Truth!
Just going to go straight into it because this episode is huge! I really like how at the end of a season and the beginning of another, we see the same scene that leads us out of one and into another. Gabriel fixes the Miraculous and ohhh poor Dusuu thought it was all a dream, being in evil hands. So in a way, the Miraculous being damaged may have been a blessing for her. Dx Too bad it couldn't have been fixed after Marinette got it back :/ But at least Nooroo isn't alone right? Legit only positive I can get from this. ;-; Tikki and her little hats omg it's so cuuuute! I wonder if she makes her little clothes, too awww But the other Kwami's are almost like siblings to Tikki if you think about it. Now Tikki has to share things with them all as they cause chaos all around when she's so used to her quiet life alone with Marinette. Even for a Kwami, that must be hard to adjust to.
Okay so it's almost Prince Ali's birthday that Paris is going to celebrate. Interesting! I'd really like to see him back and a storyline with that. :O Marinette holding something, clearly, that the girls can't see over video chat. Talking to what appears to be herself, reacting to what someone's saying from different sides of her room. Camera flashes going off. And then her phone getting yeeted at her all on a video call with her friends when she's supposed to be alone...considering they're all going to have Kwami's and learn some things later as they become heroes, I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if they think back to this scene someday! OH WAIT spoiler for the upcoming episode Gang of Secrets!!! Fair warning. What if this episode with the plushies she said she's going to make, is one of if not the reason they go over and are looking around her room? Because she's been acting sus and they want to know what's going on. Especially after what happens later in the episode with Luka. Okay, back to the episode itself. Her friends observation: You're acting way weirder than normal.... IS ADRIEN AT YOUR PLACE?! I mean, fair point. xD But the thing is, whenever Marinette tends to act weirder or say/do things that Alya and the girls don't understand, it's almost always connected to her being Ladybug/Guardian. Even Lila. If she wasn't Ladybug and dealt with her so much as her, she wouldn't know a lot of things that made her not trust Lila to begin with. So Marinette has to overcompensate to try to hide everything or can't explain her thoughts or feelings about certain situations, so Alya always just assumes her behavior has something to do with Adrien. It really sucks but at the same time, what else is she going to think?
These Kwami are a lot of trouble. xD Now she's even more frazzled, so she calls Luka Adrien. More than once. I've done this where I call my siblings the wrong name more of than I'd like so I can't fault her for it. Her mind's probably a mess, poor girl. Dx "I'm sorry it's just that I cheated on you!" BIG OOF. But this gives me Kim Possible vibes when Ron assumed Kim didn't want him anymore and told her he was cheating on her when he meant to say he was cheating to be on the football team so he could be more worthy of her when he thought she wanted to "trade up" her boyfriend. Our poor Marinette! So frazzled she can't remember when her dates are, when they've been rescheduled. She can't remember her patrols with Chat Noir which are really important. She's getting to the point where it's going to be a wonder she can even function. Dx "But Marinette and I are such a big fan of his" wow this sure hits different. The way they kept quizzing each other to finish the sentence with Jagged Stone trivia was pretty cute. Luka having her finish the line with "Kiss me" that she screamed to the entire theater made me choke on my cake. "Well, if that's what you want." Smooth. "I think, yes. I want to." But you know, it gets interrupted by an akuma attack of course because that's just the way things work! :D And wouldn't you know it, it's Mr. Pigeon. AGAIN. Totally worth interrupting the moment lol Ladybug can't pick and choose, however, so here comes the sequence where she's constantly running off and he starts doubting her. Notice the parallel when Marinette started to like Luka after Adrien could never show up to things? Now Marinette's having trouble showing up and Luka's having issues with it. The second Chat Noir started to sneak up on Ladybug, we all knew he was going to get flipped. But it's so adorable and funny at the same time I love it x333 And that whole scene there of Ladynoir. Obviously it's a Lukanette-centered episode but the Ladynoir in this episode! So good! And you know, it's interesting. First time we see Adrien this episode is for FIVE whole seconds! And the way it abruptly cut off as he opened the car door... yeah you know what, Lies is going to be Adrien's POV or something of this same day. It has to be. He has 2 total scenes one of them is 5 seconds and the other one is 2 seconds. Crazy. We got about 7 seconds of Adrien's face today woo! But ugh here's where we get hurt Luka ;-; "A girl, who as always, isn't here." Ouch. The fact that if Marinette said she loved Adrien still, he'd understand and he'd get it is so sweet, and so sad that it's not even because of that, it's because she's Ladybug and the Guardian and she can't say a thing about it to him at all, that he can't accept. It's the one thing he couldn't deal with that's the issue and that really sucks. AND THIS MOMENT RIGHT HERE HAD ME GASPING AND HURTING FOR LUKA. IT'S THE MOMENT HIS HEART BROKE
But also really guys, did you notice his eyes are different now? Almost like a blue diamond look or something.
Luka trying to fight it, trying to tell Hawk Moth that the truth needs to be willingly told, not forced. But stupid Hawk Moth's able to get him to hold on anyway and gets akumatized. But not before he told Marinette to run. Which was such an awwww moment. x33 I mean, this is definitely getting a bit close to Chat Blanc territory if you ask me. New transformation music is pretty good! I like it. Also can we just appreciate that instead of trying to track down Marinette to get the truth from her, he's instead asking all her friends and family, pretty much any source besides her? AND ROSE'S RESPONSE "Marinette has no secrets because she's the most honest girl in the world!" She thinks so highly of her and it's just so beautiful. Nobody would blame her for these secrets if they only knew either. But awwwwww I love this scene!! And here's the big reveal! (no not that one) Jagged Stone is Luka and Juleka's father. 😮
Thomas today tweeted that Luka and Juleka are twins. Which would have to be fairly obvious after this reveal. There's no way that Jagged, who says he'd be a lame dad and left because he wasn't cut out for it, would have Luka with Anarka, then stay long enough to also have Juleka. I also totally forgot that in the French version, Jagged has an American accent when he speaks. XDD Just the fact that even WITH his truth powers, he asked his mother TWICE who his father was. Both times she said Jagged Stone. He still didn't believe it until he went to Jagged himself omg. This poor poor boy. Luka: 😱*gasp* Marinette: 😲 *gasp* Adrien: 😮 WHY IS THIS SO FUNNY OMG. LIKE I'M WATCHING A TELENOVELA OR SOMETHING. THEY EVEN ZOOMED IN ON THEIR REACTIONS I CAN'T And then Luka just yeets his dad because he wasn't ever there for him. I honestly did not expect Luka having dad issues to ever be a thing in this show, even though I knew he wasn't around. So like... when everything's worked out with Marinette and Adrien in the end, will Luka and Adrien end up becoming friends and bonding over things, like the whole daddy issues thing...? Are we really supposed to believe she has no feelings for Chat Noir? I mean really, look at this.
"I can't imagine what your daily life must look like" ... is she really actually being the one to bring up something about his secret identity? With that face? 😲
Their flirty banter that at this point I don't even think they realize it is, and those soft looks I just... My top ship is Ladynoir and I was not expecting any significant moments of theirs but I got it anyway. Just watching their scenes, I kept going "See, this is why they're meant for each other." My heart is happy despite all the Luka pain! It's helping me cope with it, okay? "When you're ready, I'll be here for you, Marinette." Awww so they're telling us Lukanette is on hold here. Not a guarantee, but at least on hold. He's an option for her later. So now the Adrienette vs. Lukanette for S4 we heard about awhile back makes sense now. Later on this season, probably when things calm down and she gets the hang of things, she'll be in a better position to be with someone. And by then, Adrien will probably realize and understand his feelings for Marinette. So then she'll be in a position to choose between them. Now we know where Luka gets his ability to turn emotions into great songs. That's adorable! Father-son bonding! Gabriel needs to take notes when a man who was never in his son's life as more than his idol has the ability to try to be there, but Gabriel can't. Ugh our poor Marinette, probably thinking she's going to be alone for a very long time just because of a supervillain. That's so wrong she has to feel like this. If you notice, Hawk Moth's akumatizations help people patch up relationships so much of the time as a weird unexpected result of an akuma attack. And yet, he does nothing but hurt Marinette and at times Adrien, the most when he akumatizes people. He makes me so angry! But I'm too tired for a rant about that. At least the Kwami hugs at the end helped a teeny bit anyway! c:

@crocojagged
To be fair, I still don't buy that explanation of Thomas Astruc. Cataclysm was said to be able to destroy anything, the power of destruction and creation are the most powerful and nothing is above them, so I genuinely dislike the idea of a cataclysm being stopped by the miraculous suits when the same never also applies to any akuma power.
Because that means every time Ladybug has to avoid getting hit by one it actually wouldn't have harmed her as fatally as it was made out to be. Then why was she never allowed to be hit by one? I mean apparently it isn't that big of a deal
And in "Guilt trip", the explicit implication was that Adrien was suicidal because that's literally what alot of his actions as Chat Noir ARE at this point.
This moment would loose alot of it impact if nothing worse would have happened to him here than what happened in "Miraculer"
In "Chat Blanc" Adrien almost hitting his Father with a cataclysm out of anger also looses alot of impact
And it completely ruins the moment where akumatized Adrien was forced to either aim his destruction powers at Marinette or his father, which led to him wanting to spare BOTH by taking the blast himself
If the miraculous suits protect the holder from dying from the power of destruction then apparently Adrien should have just shot one of them, it wouldn't have done much damage anyway and the world would have been better off. Completely throwing the good-hearted choice Adrien wanted to make by rather sacrificing himself over hurting a loved one or the world under the bus.
Besides that, Thomas claim doesn't add up with "Chat Blanc" anyway because Adrien may have been unable to off himself with his powers but he sure was able to kill Ladybug and Hawkmoth seconds later
All in all I simply have to say I don't buy it, I don't LIKE it and until the show actually calls it out in canon to make it official I'm not going to give it much weight in how I watch the show. I actually support the theory that it is only the black Cat miraculous holder HIMSELF who can't die of a cataclysm when transformed, hence why it HAD to be Chat to get hurt in "Miraculer" and why Adriens sacrifice to off himself in "Chat Blanc" backfired so horribly. Because the immunity of the cat holder is something no-one in universe is actually aware of til now and therefore he couldn't know that his sacrifice wouldn't work in "Chat Blanc" etc etc.
This I definitely support and here in this ml leak scenario it can definitely apply to him. After all he wouldn't have died through the cataclysm but through being already physically weakened by releasing so much destructive energy (which can DEFINITELY hurt him) to the point where he GLOWS and then getting caught up in an cosmic explosion of such an extreme power level. Too much is too much.
I hope this didn't come across as attacking you, that is in no way my intention, but I just never actually stated my opinion on this matter and here it bothers me when Thomas' Twitter claim is used to basically shut down a solid part of my speculation. Simply because in my opinion the claim doesn't really work with what Canon has established for YEARS now and it would downgrade ALOT of things if this would turn out to be true.
Okay screw it. I don't know why I'm the only one freaking out over this but I lost so much sleep last night because of the new Ml leak where AstroChat sends a creation of Tikkis out of control powers to hell on a cosmic level, and to hell with it I'll talk about it!
I'm gonna break down everything my mind spit out last night on this post, so LET'S GO:
As I already said in more detail on another post but Chat Noir is literally causing an even MUCH bigger scale of destruction than Chat Blanc. Tikkis creation is many times larger than our earth and Adrien is actively choosing to send that thing to hell unlike in "Chat Blanc" where the destruction of the world and moon happened unintentionally because his powers got out of control caused by his akumatization and fucking awful circumstances.
Okay. Next detail:
Just how MUCH energy did he release?? He's GLOWING! I immediately assumed that it definitely would take him more effort to destroy that thing than the simple touch we see in the leak, but that's another level!
Next
I don't know what exactly it is and how it can be THIS long (maybe also created by Tikki?) but AstroChat has some sort of rope around his hand, which screams "when shit goes down help me come back to earth again" to me
Initially I thought he's extending his Staff in the first Pic but I realized that that makes hardly any sense considering he's in AstroChat Modus.
The savety rope is most likely going to be seriously needed because OH MY GOD
That wave of destruction is 100% going to get him! This is animation. If Chat Noir isn't supposed to be hit here in the next shot then they wouldn't animate the wave directly clashing with him.
Which brings me to the necessity of him doing this in the first place. Because all of this is unapologetically a possible suicide mission and I'm pretty sure he's aware that.
If the spoilers and confirmations by Gloob are correct then Tikki getting out of control and all of this is going to happen in the episode where Marinettes parents will get akumatized.
Ladybugs powers can possibly not undo this thing because it's created by Tikki and it's not even sure if Marinette was able to transform already at this point or if this things has to be destroyed for Tikki to get normal again. Which would mean there is no way to quickly send another miraculous holder into battle to help Chat Noir. Renas power of illusion is not of use here and Adrien has no reason to believe that Alya has access to the miraculous. Which is also up to question in general if she even could get them right now since Marinettes parents getting akumatized could very likely make their home unaccessible in some Form, meaning an additional miraculous can't be brought into battle through going to the Miracle box and Marinette still being unable to transform means she can't use the only other way of getting a miraculous: her yo-yo.
Honestly, Ladybug being absent and Chat Noir thinking he's now the only person who can prevent this gigantic thing from possibly crashing earth is the only way I can see this happening.
Marinette would never ask Chat Noir to do this because of how dangerous it is and because she has never seen him use his powers on this scale (besides Chat Blanc) to even think about this option. I'm pretty convinced it was Adrien own decision to do this because of Ladybugs absence and the incoming end of the world, fully aware that this time it could very easily cost him his life.
Actually Adrien being willing to make the heros sacrifice here knowing there is no miraculous ladybug to bring him back, would pay off the set up of "Lies" which showed that Chat tends to self sacrifice himself so easily by the start of season 4 because Adrien feels so save with Ladybug that he doesn't think his sacrifices could ever come with fatal consequences for himself. Now he would do the sacrifice knowing it could very well cost him his life because our boy is one hell of a heroic soul
And when I'm already at it, let's go all out now.
So Chat Noir is indeed hit by the damn destruction wave and he doesn't fucking make it (but the viewer doesn't know that yet and it's never really too graphic). The destruction of Tikkis creation made her go normal again and Marinette is finally able to first catch and purify her parents akumas (which she did somehow idk, maybe she will reveal herself to her parents and they free themselves? Damn thats actually really likely...), while people are freaking out because a cosmic explosion the size of what? VENUS?? Went off right besides damn earth.
Whoever was on the other side of the rope-like thing around Chats hand is also freaking out because the destruction wave just caught up with Chat and people are desperately trying to bring him back to earth. They manage it but since Adrien isn't going to God damn MOVE anymore after not having made it Chat is now just god damn free falling towards earth and Ladybug catches him before he crashes.
The day is saved but Chat remains unresponsive in Ladybugs arms back on earth and after a bit it dawns on her that he's gone. Marinette reacts with denial and panic causing Ladybug to FINALLY develop her separate healing powers to bring him back.
BECAUSE CAN YOU IMAGINE LADYBUG DEVELOPING HER HEALING POWERS TO BRING CHAT NOIR BACK TO LIFE? I SURE CAN!!!!!
Again:
HOW AM I THE ONLY PERSON CURRENTLY FREAKING OUT OVER THE NEW ML LEAK??????
#ml spoilers#About that claim that the miraculous suits protect the holders from a DAMN CATACLYSM#Yeah I don't like it and until the show actually calls it out I'll ignore it#It's just not canon complied enough for me#Weaknesses the power of destruction an INSULTING amount#And takes away a ton of tension#So yeah#I won't concider it here either#Ml leaks
