I'm not an astrology person at all but here's the thing: Trixie's personality fits the general description of a leo-virgo cusp perfectly, so I'll definitely believe in the astrology when it comes to her lmao. But as far as I know Katya doesn't really have the traits of a Taurus does she? Obviously the moon and rising signs are also important but idk about that stuff so I'm gonna need you to do a full analysis please. šš
Okay I'll do my best but I'm no expert so if any of my other astrology girlies want to join in I'll gladly hear their input.
I think sometimes when describing Taurus people just stick to the simple descriptions like stubborn! materialistic! and that doesn't really sound like Katya (except she kinda is sometimes lol) but like you said the Leo moon and Gemini rising help paint a more complete picture that definitely sounds just like her so I'll share what I found that I feel fits (full disclosure I'm choosing descriptions that feed into my narrative and interpretation but hey I can do what I want!).
"The Taurus sun Leo moon is likely to possess a big ego and big heart. They are generous souls who can be pompous and dramatic but also attentive and gentle. They are down to earth but there is a spark of vitality in their eye. They have an inner desire to share their light and creativity with the world. People with their sun in Taurus and moon in Leo are also strong-willed and in possession of great personal fortitude and character. They can be comical and spontaneous but they also know how to buckle down and work hard for protracted lengths of time. Because they are proud and self-respecting individuals, the Taurus sun Leo moon personality is likely to have a distaste for working mediocre and menial jobs that donāt do them justice.
They have excellent taste and know how to throw together an eye-catching ensemble when they are looking for attention. They may possess an artistic bend may be talented in multiple areas and a spontaneous desire to create and put their stamp on everything they do. Stability and security is also important to them and they are likely able to utilize their compelling people skills to work their way up the ladder and attain the success and recognition they inwardly desire. They are happiest when they have all the love and money they need and are in a position where they give generously.
People with this sun-moon combination like to enjoy themselves and often do not hold back when it comes time to let loose and have a good time. At their best, they are a spark of positive energy and exhibit a sunny disposition that cuts through the negative energy that might be surrounding them. Although sometimes vain and self-indulgent, they have many noble values that influence their moral judgment. They are compassionate and display a sense of integrity and pride that prevents them from stooping to petty levels. Instead, they try to uplift and embody a positive force for good.Ā
They are not that uptight and often like to create a playful atmosphere in their work environment. They care about the people they work with and will often do thoughtful and generous things for them on a whim. As far as their workspaces, they like to surround themselves with things that make them happy. Drab and dull environments drain their soul and so they are inclined to spruce up and add some personality to their place of work. They possess a visual flair that is flamboyant and attention-grabbing.
The Taurus sun Leo moon is a romantic who loves to spoil and pamper the people they love. They want to be spoiled as well and to feel like they are the center of their loved oneās universe. They will likely peacock and flaunt their possessions and any other physical asset they are proud of.
Now this sun and moon along with a Gemini RisingĀ means they are very expressive and communicative. They have a knack for words and verbal sparring. They possess a lot of spirit and vitality and natural charisma."
That sounds like her, no? Loving and generous and we all know she loves to give and receive gifts but she's thrifty and creative and smart and witty and I feel this is all spot on. Also I know she is adamant that she doesn't like to work but that doesn't mean she's not hardworking. If she's committed and dedicated to something she'll give it her all. Just look at how much time, energy and effort goes into making her costumes and preparing and performing for something huge like the tour. Or even writing! Sure, she'll complain but she's very talented and when she wants to she'll do it (with some helpful encouragement). Again, she helped co-write the script and came up with the show idea with Eden and contributed to a lot of the jokes Caitie Delaney put into the final product. That's no easy task! I'm a Katya works more than she says she does truther and I want her to get more credit for all she does do lol. She actually has a healthy work life balance because she doesn't do too much. So what she does do, she does really well. For ILTW, UNHhhh and all of these she shows up because she cares about those projects. That sounds like dependability to me? And she can't get bored! Which she does easily. So where she's stubborn is if she doesn't want to do something she won't and so that's why she needs to keep things interesting. She's always changing things up in her workspace and attire. Just think of the creativity involved in her outfits and her studio space, it's like a dragon's lair full of weird little treasures. A Taurus sun/Leo moon thrives when things can be on their own terms so she can keep it meaningful to them lol.
The work aspect is interesting too because while people might not assume Katya wants or needs structure, she actually has a lot of it in her life and really thrives because of it! Waking up every day and working out and then going to the studio provides a routine in her life. At the beginning of covid she wanted to go back to work and the reason she and Andrew got their studio together was so that they could both have a creative space to work in outside of their homes. Also the diligence to exercising daily, she's always talking about the importance of movement lol and all of these things really fuel her happiness. So she's got more commitment to herself than she lets on. You could say the times in her past when she didn't have such a healthy structure contributed her leaning into her vices and feeding into that negativity in her life. But she's only been open and honest about who she is, including faults and mistakes. She's always had a strong moral character even if she hasn't always acted on it lol. That's why her humor and intellect come from a deep understanding. She's a super sensitive soul which fits with creative types, they feel deeply!
Anyways this is my view of how I see it, I could totally be wrong about some things since it's not an exact science so not everything is 100% so please don't yell at me lol.
#the pressure!#super duper long astrology breakdown if you're interested lol#hope I got this right...#but it was fun so whatever#ended up talking about work more than I thought? but that's the part that might surprise people the most if theyĀ didn't knowĀ otherwise#could talk about k's full chart all day tbh

ok. i must know the music tastes of *preparation cough* [insert all of your ocs here] :}
Thank you for enabling me to talk about this š
Kimiko Yukihira š³
Kimiko has her own little radio in her room and this radio is pretty much her main source of exposure to music. She therefore listens to a lot of Pop and is especially fond of the upbeat kind. Thanks to the men in her family she has been introduced to various Rock or more Alternative songs as well though.Ā
Favorite Artists: I feel sheād like Owl City & possibly also Paramore
Hiroshi Aldini-Tadokoro āļø
Hiroshi listens to soft things that ease him down. His playlist is full of cute, soft-sounding pop songs and acoustic stuff.Ā
Favorite Artists: Hm, Jason Mraz, Sleeping At Last & Ai Means Love, I think
Mika Aldini āļø
As an avid dancer, Mika mainly listens to songs that you can also dance to. So her playlists mainly consist of very fast-paced, exciting songs. Her favorite Genre is Latin-Pop, but she listens to a lot of regular Pop as well (as long as itās good for dancing). She also does enjoy some Reggae once in a while, especially if she does feels like relaxing.
Favorite Artists: Shakira & Jennifer LopezĀ
Kaori Hayama š
Kaori listens majorly to Soul, R&BĀ & Blues. She considers it very relaxing and she does mainly listen to music in order to relax. Kaori does also have a little soft spot for a lot of older jazzy tunes from her motherās favorite movies.Ā Ā Ā
Favorite Artists: Aretha Franklin, Sade, Alicia Keys & Adele
Lola Nakiri š¦
Lola is Daddyās little girl when it comes to the matter of music. When Lola Nakiri puts on headphones, sheāll be blasting her ears off with Rock & Heavy Metal. Sheās also known to have a rather impressive collection of band T-shirts. She can find some appreciation in the sassy Pop her mom listens to, but ultimately Rock & Metal is where her heart is.Ā
Favorite Artists: Iron Maiden and Led Zeppelin I guess. And probably another Metal Band. I sadly only know a few and only by name because I do not listen to Metal, ever.Ā
Mona Nakiri šŗ
Techno. Mona walks around with her headphones a lot more than Lola does and what she listens to is all sorts of Techno sub-genres and House,Ā with a good number of Ā Remixes in-between.Ā
Favorite Artists:Ā LeaĀ doesnāt know any tbh sfghgfhg
Takayuki Hojo š„
Takayuki listens to Rock like the tough cookie he is. Should he ever listen to anything that isnāt Rock, his father or Suzume most likely made him listen to it. His two favorite songs of all time areĀ āT.N.Tā by AC/DC &Ā āEye Of The Tigerā by Survivor (Takayuki loves the Rocky movies)
Favorite Artists: As long as itās Rock he doesnāt care who sings. Okay but he is pretty fond of AC/DC and Guns nā Roses
Kazuo Mimasaka š
My boy Kazuo surely has one big playlist that is filled with nothing but the most sappiest and emotional love-ballads imaginable. And I donāt even want to think about how long it would be. Kazuo can listen to almost anything, the exception being Hardcore Gangster Rap, but what he listens to privately is...yeah, Ballads.Ā
Favorite Artists: Lionel Richie & Celine Dion are the first names to come to my mind.Ā āMy Heart Will Go Onā is at the very top of Kazuoās playlist
Yasu Ibusaki š²
Shun passed his liking for Rock down to Yasu. When growing older, Yasu additionally also developed a love for all things Indie & Folkish. Has been called a Hipster for his music taste more than once by Hideyoshi.Ā
Favorite Artists: Arctic Monkeys, Twenty One Pilots, HozierĀ
Chieko Marui š
Chieko does listen to a lot of LoFi or Movie/Video Game Soundtracks for studying and relaxation. Her favorite movie soundtrack is that ofĀ āThe Theory of Everythingā. However, when it comes to casual listening her mother got her into Pop. And also thanks to her father, Chieko kinda became accustomed to Pop from all decades. She majorly listens to all sorts off love songs.Ā
Favorite Artists: TAYLOR SWIFT, Chieko is a confirmed Swiftie. Also really likes Britney Spears tho I feel.Ā
Hideyoshi Kawashima š¤
Hideyoshi listens mainly to things you can #party to. Out of all the characters heās the one who keeps up with the charts the most.Ā Likes Pop and also K-Pop! His dad did successfully get him into some HipHop as well though. Hideyoshi also has a secret soft spot for the boybands of the 90s.
Favorite Artists: Jason Derulo, Backstreet Boys & BTS
Daisuke Aoki šø
Daisuke is our Retro-Kid. His music libraries is mostly 80s and 70s, with some songs of the 50s and 60s that his father likes in-between. Is usually the last one in Polar Star to discover the newest hit in the charts, because heās too busy bopping to the past. Lea can relate.Ā
Favorite Artists: Queen, A-ha & Huey Lewis & The News
Hiraku Yukihira š
Hiraku likes the modern Rock from the 2000s and 2010s. Occasionally he will stumble over something in the Indie and Alternative department and then be real proud over being the only one who knows a particular song.Ā
Favorite Artists: Panic! at the Disco, Coldplay and Imagine Dragons
Akio Hayama š±
The same as Kaori. This is a thing they have in common, they both do enjoy the same music pretty much. Though I can picture Akio liking some Reggae once in a while in addition. Also just a few days ago, I established that heās a secret theatre kid who also listens to a lot of Show Tunes.Ā
Favorite Artists: Stevie Wonder & Marvin GayeĀ
Suzume Hojo š„
Out of all the characters in the cast, Iād say that Suzume probably has the broadest music taste. She is capable of enjoying a lot of stuff. Being the Meme-Lord that Suzume is, she does love to put on some Meme- and Guilty Pleasure songs. Though of course, there is irony playing into that enjoyment. When it comes to the songs she enjoy unironically, theyāre mostly very fast-paced and energetic. I guess you could say her favorite genre is bouncy pop of all decades. Her favorite song of all time would beĀ āGirls just want to have funā.Ā
Favorite Artists: Lizzo, BeyoncĆ© and Cindy Lauper.Ā
Shigeo Eizan š
Jazz is Love. Jazz is Life.Ā Shigeo listens to Jazz ahdhd. A lot. He basically always has Jazz going on in the background when heās working. When he finds the time to listen more attentively, he loves listening to Swing the most.Ā
Favorite Artists: Frank Sinatra. Also likes Michael BublĆ© tho I feel.Ā
Noboru Shinomiya š
Noboru loves nothing more than his collection of classic French Chansons. Itās what he listens to on his long autumn walks through Paris and it makes him happy and content. He also does like the Enka-songs his mother enjoys though.
Favorite Artists: Joe Dassin and Ćdith Piaf
Kiyoko Saito šø
Kiyoko really loves Classical Japanese music a lot but she only really does listen to it on special occassions. She does also enjoy a lot of modern Pop and also K-Pop as well though and she really loves to put it on whenever she dresses up, paints her nails... etc.Ā (Also I can see her being into Vocaloid tbh).Ā
Favorite Artists: BLACKPINK. I can also see her liking Ariana Grande
Masashi Eizan š
Okay this is our true Classic-Fanatic. All of Neneās efforts to bring Masashi to operas, ballets and just plain classical concerts have paid off. Masashi listens majorly to Classical Japanese music or Western Classical music. He also does really like Enka.Ā
Favorite Artist: His favorite Western composer is Beethoven, I havenāt figured out anything else yet.Ā
Ran Mimasaka š
Ran listens to a lot of operas actually ahdh because, well, she likes operas. Aside from that, she does also enjoy Rock and ChillHop though shdhf. To some this might be a weird combo, but it do be like that sometimes. Ā
Favorite Artists: In the Rock-department itās David Bowie.Ā
-
I admittedly only did the most important high schoolers here, I will need a Part 2 I guess ahdhdf
But still thanks for asking āŗļø
#Well#That took longer than I expected#But it was still fun ahdfhf#Gofer answering to stuffz#Shokugeki no Kimiko Stuffz

BNHA Chapter 215 Review aka Iām So Fucking Tired
So after 24 hours of shitty-brain-chemicals mini-crisis and reading the full pages and translation of chapter 215, I return...to confirm that yep, Iām still fuckinā pissed.
youtube
Warning: If youāre not prepared for chart-topping Reddit-āfandomā levels of salt, shade, and bitterness with a whole lot of fucks mixed in, I suggest you read no further.
Letās just do this page-by-page, shall we.
Oh my god, FINALLY. Itās already been five minutes; weāve waited so long for this whole āscary new powerā phase to be over. Five whole minutes, yāall! Wow.
I mean, ya not wrong, buddy! You pretty much can do anything if Mr. Authorās plot dictates it. Because who gives a fuck about feeling like there are any stakes in anything or making the world seem real; amirite, Hori?
Shinsou again with the super relatability. P sure a lot of us are goddamn incredulous about the overplayed āstruggling with new quirk manifestationā drama, now that Izuku is magically instantly proficient. Because thatās how quirks have worked up until this point.......
Oh no...! Back down to 8% with no air force attack for a hot second?? WHAT A NERF! Whatever will he do?? ...Oh. Still win everything. So who gives a fuck. Does anybody really believe these percentages donāt just mean whatever Hori wants them to at any given moment anyway?
Yo, Iām sorry. Apologizing for the author who hyped some fantastic MonoShin collaboration and then did everything he could to prevent that from happening. Bitch.
But then...they did? Sooooooooo...? What the fuckās the point of Shinsou recovering his mask and going for another plan? Legit nothing came of this. Why does this panel--no, most of this chapter even exist?? Like I get that itās supposed to look like a struggle between the teams, but itās all just...super contrived the way it ends, my dudes. This is bullshit writing, k.
Okay, I frickinā loved this scene. I can be mad as all hell and still admit this was enjoyable. The quirk meta, the mind games, and Monomaās zero-grav hair.
Okay, but did he really need another fucking limit on his quirk??? Time limit, one-at-a-time limit, potentially type limit (not able to copy mutant quirks--but thatās just speculation/headcanon for now)...and now number limit? WHILE IZUKU IS GETTING SIX WHOLE FUCKING PERMA-QUIRKS FOR GODDAMN FREE??
YEAH OKAY, LETāS TALK ABOUT THAT. I saw a post I mostly disagreed with and disliked (and donāt care to identify or quote; I canāt even remember whose it was or anything) saying this six-new-abilities ability is going to erase the need for a ton of other already-existing characters. Sero, as an example, since Black Whip basically usurps his specialty and more. On principle, as the worldbuilding has stood up until this point, I disagreed that characters like Sero would become useless. The way society has been trending, teamwork has been increasingly essential and encouraged. That means two people with lasso/tape-like quirks would do just fine! There can be more than one person with a similar quirk! Hell, thatās all Monomaās quirk is--a temporary second of one that already exists. OR TETSUTETSU AND KIRISHIMA MUCH? Theyāre both useful! Even together!
So as a general principle, people with similar quirks can and do exist just fine in the same universe and even same space and role. The danger exists only if the author is so irresponsible as to consciously edge out the other characters by letting his pet character take care of everything by himself. Which seems like exactly what Izukuās new six-quirks is at risk of doing now. Sure, argue Uraraka was useful and that Izuku relied on her this time, mmkay, but wait until he gets his own antigrav quirk, lol. Like, at this point, I honestly donāt trust Hori not to fuck up the beautiful character synergies and contrasts heās already built. Because he sure did fuck up a lot of things that had great potential this arc already. Often by stepping on the ālittleā guys. Fuck you, Tokage didnāt deserve that, and Baku didnāt deserve to dominate that hard. Where is the goddamn sense of struggle and achievement? Aight, thatās a rant for another day...
Anyway, back on track, call me biased as hell, but usurping the specialty of the guy whose ONLY NICHE WAS BEING THE ONLY ONE WITH VERSATILE MULTI-QUIRK USAGE? AND GAINING MULTIPLE QUIRKS BUT WITHOUT SEVERAL OF MONOMAāS LIMITING FACTORS? Gooooooooooo fuck yourself, āblessed boyā.
But...HE DIDNāT, THOUGH? Monomaās ace-in-the-hole surprise Twin Impact stunned Mr. Protagonist for an amazing two whole seconds! Because of course; the fuck were we all thinking hoping other people mattered in this story or stood a chance against plot-device-convenient auto-scaling levels of OP? Like why even try tbh???
Shinsou fucking gets it. We all get it; it was an amazing play. But protagonist privilege too strong; what the fuck can you do.
Oh yep, hereās a more accurate translation, given the goddamn results.
Hahahahaha, amazing, even literally everybody in-character gets it. Team 5-B had every right to win this shit. But then...!
Oh boy!!! Generic shonen anime protagonist inspiration spiel to the contrived-Hori-plot rescue! Now, with these magic thoughts, he will win! Amazing how that works!
Well yeah, no shit, it makes sense for you to have that kind of confidence, considering thatās legit how your protagonist life works. Congrats on the contrived win, dude; I know youāre not surprised. Yāall, I know this isnāt in-world Izukuās fault; heās doing his best which is what he should be doing. Itās the shitty writing, plain and simple. Donāt blame the kid that gets everything; blame the one who spoils them at the expense of others. So perhaps calling me petty would be deserved, but my bitterness canāt help but leak out towards the character as well; itās just human nature. I donāt like Baku as much as I used to either, because all the interesting bits are gone now that heās OP and comparably perfect. At least Hori kinda kicked Shouto to the OP-privilege curb a little; makes him more realistic, relatable, and likable.
Ohhhh god, generic shonen anime faux-inspirational epilogue to put the icing on the shit cake; brb gagging.
Alright, so letās summarize all the implied morals to the story here!:
Things turned around at the very end for basically no other reason than Hori wanted Team Protag to win.
All the dipshits were actually right; class B is legit inferior to class A, as evidenced by the results of literally every time theyāve directly faced each other. 1 win to 3 this time, bitch, and donāt make me remind of the sports festival. Even though B class clearly has better teamwork and synergy. Screw that, A more powerful, A smash. A main character class; A win.
Monoma, your backstory classmates were right, turns out! You are apparently an ineffective hero student who just keeps losing! Youāll never be more than a side character to be used, abused, and discarded. Fuck your aspirations, fan-fucking-tastic.
Shinsou, donāt kid yourself; you havenāt fucking changed. You got beaten by the same dude in nearly the exact same fashion. Your entire arc was fucking pointless; have fun in general studies! (In honesty, if Hori has any remaining shred of sensibility, I think he might let Shinsou into hero course anyway? Did they ever say Shinsou technically had to win both of his matches? Or just show progress? Who fucking knows at this point.)
Everybody who didnāt need to be reminded theyāre great won. Are you not inspired?
Beautiful. Beautiful goddamn arc, Horikoshi; you taught us the important things in this world. Applause. I will honestly punch myself in the face in ecstatic shock if Hori manages to pull some way out of his ass to make this a satisfying conclusion.
My final thoughts:
Fuck this shit, Iām out.

what i read in july
THATāS MORE LIKE IT aka iām finally out of the (relative) reading slump for good & my bro james joyce was there
men explain things to me, rebecca solnit the original mansplaining essay is great, and still scarily relevant; the others in this collection (most on feminist issues) are also quite good; some aspects are a bit dated & problematic so be aware of that. 2.5/5
erschlagt die armen!, shumona sinha (tr. from french, not available in english) short but very impactful novella about a young french woman, originally from india, who works as an interpreter in the asylum system and becomes more & more broken by this system of inhumane bureaucracy and suffering, until she snaps and hits a migrant over the head with a wine bottle. full of alienation and misery and beautiful but disturbing language - the title translates toĀ ābeat the poor to deathā so like. yeah. 3.5/5
fire & blood: a history of the targaryen family I, george r r martin look, itās a 700-page-long fake history book about a fictional ruling dynasty in a fictional world, and iām just That Obsessed & Desperate about asoiaf (and i donāt even care about the targs That Much). anyway, now i know more about the targs than any ruling family from, you know, real history, which is like, whatever. this is pretty enjoyable if you are That Obsessed, although i will say that some bits are much better than others (there are some dry dull years even in everyoneās fav overly dramatic dragon-riding incest-loving family) and the misogyny really is. a lot. too much. way too much. BUT i did really like Good Best Queen Alysanne (her husband king joe harris is alright too i guess) and i found my new westerosi otp, cregan stark/aly blackwood, who both have Big Dick Energy off the fucking charts. 3.5/5 (+0.5 points for cregan and alyās combined BDE)
the old drift, namwali serpell hugely ambitious sprawling postcolonial nation-building novel about zambia, told thru three generations of three families, as well as a chorus of mosquitoes (consistently the best & smartest parts). there is A LOT going on, in terms of characters, of plot points, of references to history (the zambian space programme) and literature (finally my knowledge of heart of darkness paid off) and thematically, and honestly it was a bit too much, a bit too tangled & fragmented & drifty, and in the end i probably admire this book more than i liked it, but serpellās writing is incredibly smart and funny and full of electrical sparks 3.5/5
a severed head, iris murdoch the original love dodecahedron (not that i counted). iris murdoch is fucking WILD and i love her for it. this is a strange darkly funny little farce about some rich well-educated londoners and their bizarre & rather convoluted love lives. not as grandiosely wild as the sea the sea, but fun nevertheless. 3/5
midnight in chernobyl, adam higginbotham jumping on the hype bandwagon caused by the hbo series (very weird to call the current fascination with chernobyl a hype bandwagon but you know). interesting & well-written & accessible (tho the science is still totally beyond me) & gets you to care about the people involved. lots of human failure, lots of human greatness, set against the background of the almost eldritch threat of radioactivity (look up the elephant foot & see if you donāt get chills), and acute radiation syndrome which is THE MOST TERRIFYING THING ON EARTH . 3.5/5
normal people, sally rooney honestly this is incredibly engrossing & absorbing once you get used to how rooney completely ignoresĀ āshow donāt tellā (it works!), i pretty much read the whole thing in one slow workday (boss makes a dollar, i make a dime so i read books on my phone on company time, also i genuinely had nothing to do). i also think rooney is really good at precisely capturing the ~millenial experience in a way that feels very true, especially the transition from school to uni. BUT i really disliked the ending, the book never engages with the political themes it introduces (esp. class and gender) as deeply as it could and the bdsm stuff never really gets TIED UP LOL. so overall idk: 3.5/5
stƶrfall: nachrichten eines tages, christa wolf quiet reflective undramatic little book narrated by a woman waiting to hear about the outcome of her brotherās brain surgery on the day of the catastrophe at chernobyl - throughout the day she puts down her thoughts about her brother and the events unfolding at chernobyl, as well as the double uncertainty she is trying to cope with. really interesting to read such an immediate reaction to chernobyl (the book came out less than a year after chernobyl). 2.5/5
the man in the high castle, philip k dick it was fine? quick & entertaining alternative history where the axis powers win the war, some interesting bits of worldbuilding (like the draining of the mediterranean which was apparently a real idea in the early 20th century?) but overall itās just felt a bit disjointed & unsatisfying to me. 2.5/5
fugitive pieces, anne michaels very poetic & thoughtful novel about the holocaust, grief, remembrance & the difference between history and memory, intergenerational trauma, love, geology and the weather. iām not sure how much this comes together as a novel, but it is absolutely beautifully written (the author is a poet as well) and very affective. 3.5/5
american innovations, rivka galchen short collection of bizarre & often funny short stories about neurotic women whose furniture flies away, or who grow an extra breast, or who are maybe too occupied with financial details. very vague & very precise at once, which seems to be the thing with these sort of collections. 3/5
foolās assassin (fitz & the fool #1), robin hobb YAASS iām back in the realm of the elderlings!!! i thought this was one of the weaker installments in the series - i still enjoyed it a lot, and Feelings were had, but it just doesnāt quite fit together pacing-wise & some of the characterisation struck me as off (can i get some nuance for shun & lant please?) and tbh fitz is at peak Selfcentred Dumbass Levels & it drove me up the fucking wall. molly, nettle & bee deserve better. still, completely HYPE for the rest of the trilogy. 3.5/5
JAMES JOYCE JULY
note: i decided not to read dubliners bc itās my least fav of joyceās major works & too bleak & repetitive for my mood right now AND while i planned not to reread finnegans wake bcā¦ā¦. itās finnegans wakeā¦. i kinda do want to read it now (but i also. really donāt.) so idk yet.
a portrait of the artist as a young man, james joyce yāall. i read this book at least once a year between the ages of 15 and 19, itās beyond formative, it is burnt into my brain, and reading it now several years later it is still everything, soaring and searing (that searing clarity of truth, thanks burgess) and poetic and dirty, and stephen is baby, and a pretentious self-important little prick and i love him & i am him (or was him as only a pretentious self-important teenage girl reading joyce can be him - because this truly is a book that should be read in your late teens when you feel everything as intensely and world-endingly and severely as my boy stephen does and every new experience feels like the world changing). anyway i love this book & i love stephen dedalus, bird-like, hawk-like, knife-blade, aloof, alienated, severe and stern, a poet-priest-prophet if he could ever get over himself, baby baby baby. 5/5
exiles, james joyce well. thereās a reason joyce is known as a novelist. this isā¦.. a failed experiment, maybe. a fairly boring play about an adulterous love-square and uhā¦ love beyond morality and possession maybe??? about how much it would suck for joyce to return to ireland??? and tbh itās not terribly interesting. 2/5
travesties, tom stoppard a wild funny irreverent & smart antic comedy inspired by the fact that during ww1, james joyce, lenin, and dadaist tristan tzara were all in neutral zurich, more or less simultaneously; they probably never met, but in this play they do, as dadaist poetry, socialist art critique, and a james joyce high on his own genius & in desperate need of some cash while writing ulysses, AND the importance of being earnest (joyce is putting on a production of it) all collide in the memories of henry carr, who played algernon & later sued joyce over money (tru facts). not my fav stoppard (thatās arcadia) but itās funny & fizzy & smart & combines many many things that i love. 4/5Ā
ulysses, james joyce look iām not really going to tell yāall anything new about ulysses, but it really has everything, itās warm & human(e) & cerebral & difficult & funny & sad & healing & i always get a lot out of it even tho thereās bits (a lot of them) iāll never wrap my head around. ultimate affirmation of humanity or whatever. also stephen dedalus is baby. 5/5
dedalus, chris mccabe the fact that this book (sequel to ulysses about what stephen dedalus might have done the next day) exists and was published ON MY BIRTHDAY is proof that the universe loves me.Ā
anyway this is very very good, very very clever, extremely good at stephen (less good at bloom but his parts are still good), engages w/ ulysses, portrait & hamlet (& others) very cleverly & does some cool meta and experimental shit. yāall it has stephen talking to a contemporary therapist about how heās stuck in joyceās text which is all about joyce & very little about whoever stephen is when heās not joyceās alter ego/affectionate but slightly amused look at younger self and ithaca is an interview w/ the author about how his relationship to his dad influenced his response to ulysses and IāM INTO IT. the oxen of the sun chapter replaces the wholeĀ āgestation of english proseā w/ just slightly rewriting the first pages of about 10 novels published between ulysses and now & it does lolita w/ ābloom, thorn of stephenās sleep, light in his eyes. his sire, his sonā and i lit. screamed. anyway i donāt want to give this 5 stars (yet) bc i think some of the experimental stuff ended up a bit gimmicky & didnāt add that much to the text but fuck. thatās my boy & i want to reread it right now. 4.5/5 ALSO itās a crime no literary weirdo woman has writtenĀ āa portrait of the artistās sisterā about deliaĀ ādillyā dedalus, shadow of stephenās mind, quick far & daring, teaching herself french from a 3rd hand primer while her father drinks the nonexistent family fortune away and her older brother is getting drunk on a beach & starting fights w/ soldiers bc heās a smartarse

BIOGRAPHY: Madison McCarthy likes to say that performing is in her blood, so itās no surprise she and her brother were cast on a tv show after only one audition for the part. You see, her parents have been performing since before she and her twin were in the womb. Both performance majors in college, Mitchell and Melissa McCarthy were quick to join the musical group Up with People after graduation and were apart of the traveling cast for six years, until Melissa eventually fell pregnant with twins. Planting roots in the great state of Texas, the couple decided to continue on with their love for performing and buy and renovate an old space in downtown Dallas. Eventually it became a pretty popular theatre company, one that produced many a shows written by Mitchell. Of course, due to her parentās busy schedule, it meant that Mason and Madison were often neglected as children. At first she tried to understand. It must be insanely difficult to not only build an entire theatre company from the ground up, but then find talent and produce shows. But as the twins got older and their nannies started to disappear due to their parents being unable to pay them, she knew she and Mason werenāt even on their radar. The only time Madison or Mason seemed to shine in their parents eyes, was when one of twins were lucky enough to book a commercial. Madison hadnāt been too keen at first to follow her parents footsteps in becoming an actor, after all she had seen what it did to them, but the second she was booked in her first roll their attention didnāt leave her for the entire filming process, and she decided then and there she could do this for the rest of her life. Thereās only so much you can do in Texas though, and when Madison started to notice Masonās frustrations with the job as they entered their teen years, she went to her parents and begged they move them to LA. It wasnāt too hard to convince them, not when you had a color coated flow chart and pros and conās list to back up your slide show. Some might say it was a bit over the top, but that was Madison. She came prepared. For everything. She enjoyed order and was the first to seek out a better opportunity. And, once she mentioned the fact that her parents would probably have better luck with their theatre company in a town like LA, they were packing up and moving out maybe a week later. LA was different from Texas, thats for sure. And it seemed her parents changed once they moved there as well. Her father continued to work on the theatre company, writing screenplays in his free time, but her mother had found an agent almost two months after moving there. Heād come to one of their shows, and soon her mother was a fresh face on a daytime soap. It meant Madison saw her mother even less, and the abandoned feeling she felt meant she held on tighter to Mason. Auditioning for shows and pilots as much as she could, she would drag her brother along for roles in the same show just to hope theyād get something and his mood would lighten. When she heard about Performing The Arts, she called her motherās agent instantly and demanded she and Mason be given scripts for the audition. And, it seemed like fate, because not even a week after her audition, she and her brother received their calls letting them know theyād been cast. Now things are starting to get serious. Sheās gotten the script. She knows her character. Sheāll meet the cast soon and then itāll be time for pre production and eventually shooting. Madison hopes and prays that things will take off, and that the pilot will be picked up. She hopefully, obviously, I mean, sheās in the show. Why wouldnāt it do well with not one, but two McCarthyās as regulars? But itās still nerve wracking, and itās her first big chance after numerous nameless roles on shows like Greys Anatomy and Criminal Minds. But, just like every part of her life, Madison has a plan, and sheās not going to let this one fail. Sheās sure once the pilot has been picked up, and the show starts to gain itās fanbase, she and Mason could find enough money to buy their own place. Itās not like her parents were around much anyway, and itād be a much happier place if it was just her and Mason. Maybe then they can focus more on themselves, and Mason will start to smile more. She knows itās not her job to fix every problem her brother has, but she wants to try, and she really thinks that moving out and just worrying about each other will help not only her, but him too. Right now though, sheās going to focus on the current task, Lola. Her new character. Her currently child. She was going to do everything she could to not only make this character real and raw, but loved by many.
YOUR CHARACTERāS HEAD CANON FOR THEIR CHARACTER: Madison finds Lola to be quite the interesting character, and thatās because there a parts of Lola that Madison doesnāt understand, and she knows that once she starts playing the girl, itāll be things sheāll start to discover through the course of the show. Lola Daniels is someone with the perfect life. Both parents are psychiatrists, and spend all day meeting with patients and trying to get to the root of their problems. And because of this, they tend to bring their work home, and try their hardest to council their daughter. Except Lola doesnāt want to be another patient for them to study, she wants to be their daughter, and she wants them desperately to notice her. Theyāve become so hell bent on finding deep problems with their daughter -āHoney, you havenāt been eating your food. Is there something you want to tell us?ā āSweetie, is that smile? You know you donāt have to hide around usā- that theyāre so oblivious to the truth. Lola isnāt bulimic, or manic, sheās just tired. Tired of her life, and the mundane activities she goes through. Sheās tired of her family and the way her parents are looking so hard for a problem that theyāre blind to the fact that sheās just depressed. And when she attempts to talk to them about it, all she gets is a suggestion to try showering, or working out, or eating healthier. They just donāt get she doesnāt even want to get out of bed most days. Sheās started to distance herself from people too. People like Miller, who had once been self appointed best friend, or Zane, a cute boy who is clearly interested in her, but someone she just doesnāt want to try with. Aware that something is wrong, Lola has decided she wants to change. Sheās sick of feeling like this, and has found an after school group for kids with mental health issues. While herās is self diagnosed, itās nice to be with a group of kids who not only validate what sheās feeling, but understand what sheās going through without trying so hard to fix it.
