Finished this gal! Tbh I didn't have high hopes for this one since imo the sketch did it no favours... but once I started shading it after cleaning the lines up and adding the flats, it honestly looked a million times better. Gotta elarn to break past that 'ugly duckling' stage when colouring, lmao
But I'm pretty pleased with how this turned out! Tried not to alter her design so much you couldn't recognize who it was... but it's definitely a lot different from her 'canon' outfit tbh. Covers a lot more, and also learned a bunch about Greek armour to boot!
Gonna mention this 'cause if I were looking at it and it wasn't my art, I'd judge it too: it's not a boob plate, I promise. Since I wanted to replicate the 'muscle cuirass' the Greeks were well-known for - plus abiding by the 'heroic nude' idea behind that armour in the first place [that's why that kind of armour usually has nipples on it too lol] - the armour has lines to "show" the figure underneath it. If the men's armour can have pecs molded into it, a gal [in theory] can at least have boob lines imo. Tbh... pulled a tiny bit of inspiration for the skirt from Sophitia's outfits in Soul Blade in that it's flowy and has a simple pattern on the hemline. But I also read up that the armour with the leather 'dangly' bits hasn't been proven to have been on hoplite armour, so I stuck with the traditional skirt just to be safe. Kinda got lazy on the inaccurate chainmail bit [I mentioned it in a WIP I posted on DA, but a chainmail cuirass was a Roman thing tbh] but I figured it wasn't a main focus area, so I'm not too worried. Just kept her leg armour, boots, gauntlet, and sash tbh. Read up that Hoplites didn't actually wear vambraces/gauntlets at all, but since Pyrrha uses Polarity and such, I figured leaving it in would make sense. I mean, I kept her goddamn boots in the design, why not keep breaking the rules a bit? :'D But yeah! Let me know what you think! Tbh I still love her original design to death, but there's nothing wrong with something a bit less flashy now and then, eh? ;)
