okay i have an (unpopular) opinion that i don't think julien would date someone controversially young not because there's something wrong with it but because she will get so existential and I feel like she would feel bad if your brain wasn't fully developed lol

they are also STOKED for you to turn 21, since most of them are sober the idea of getting you drunk is so appealing

and jb is SO protective, like already jb has her hands on young!gf all. the. time. like in the dip of her back or on her hips or hand on the back of her neck, jb is always making some type of physical contact

before you live together, jb is stocking her house w your stuff to make you comfy

your fave snacks are in the kitchen, your fave drinks in the fridge

jb buys a full size of your fave perfume and body wash, she has you pick out pajamas for her dresser and puts a jewelry holder on her dresser just for you (@ever-siince-new-york 🥹)

if you're in school, jb def has a desk set up in her office or music room and its one she built and it has cute pens and stationary and a pretty keyboard and a comfy chair where you can cross your legs and then under it is built in storage for some of your books and crocheting/knitting/crafting stuff

when you move in, jb designs (w the help of lucy and Katie) your own office where you can write and paint and it has the best sunlight in the whole house

julien also gets really anxious leaving you at home, not because you're not capable but she grows so attached and is like "you'll be a different person when i come back:("

always sending flowers and dinner and gifts while on the road (@ever-siince-new-york)

More Like The Three Gay-bles, Right?

The Three Gables

This was a fun reset into the regular Sherlock & Co. adventures. Something low stakes that also gave John space to show that he’s still grieving for Mary. And Sherlock and Mariana had time to hang out, just the two of them! I was hoping for that!

The mystery was interesting, with the questions about what could be hidden in the hospital that someone would spend decades obsessing over obtaining or destroying. (Though I found the solution a little underwhelming. Yeah, the woman covered up a murder, but you don’t need to out her as a cougar!) Thinking about it now, I really wonder why it was so hard for her to get that evidence. Hire some burglers! Give the hospital a big donation with the condition that you get to dig something out of an unused chimney! There were options!

But this adventure was clearly much more about the characters. John is in mourning and Sherlock and Mariana are doing their best to support him through that. It’s sweet.

But it’s also time for me to once again pull out my Johnlock conspiracy board!

Ok, so one thing I didn’t mention about The Sign of Four was the queer clues (qlues) I found there. I wanted to focus on the objective story and give Mary her flowers. But there were some important elements to note!

Sherlock seemed jealous at the idea of John dating someone. Could just be friend-jealousy, but it was there.

“You have a lovely face. Very warm.” Sherlock to Watson in The Sign of Four, part 4

John pointed out (also in SoF, part 4) that Sherlock had done a case with a romantic interest before, Victor Trevor from The Gloria Scott! And Sherlock acknowledged it! As a reminder, Victor Trevor was an old friend of Sherlock’s from school and the only explicitly gay man we’ve had so far. I knew they had a flirty vibe!

So we know that Sherlock & Co. has an explicitly queer version of Sherlock Holmes! That’s fantastic! It still doesn’t necessarily mean that he’ll get together with John, but honestly I’ll stay thrilled either way!

Knowing he’s a queer character also made his interaction with the drag queen really interesting. First of all he knew her, but he also seemed comfortable with the drag performance and her club in a way that felt like he’d been there before. Sherlock isn’t just queer, he’s had experience with queer culture. I doubt that gay clubs are his preferred scene, but I love the implication of a journey of self-discovery. Maybe it was something he experienced while in school with Victor.

Now for some bits that are more theory than evidence-based. I suspect that Sherlock has a big crush on John and has for a while. Not a surprise, as John has repeatedly been so kind, supportive, and actively interested in Sherlock’s passion for crime solving. I also think that Sherlock currently has zero intention of pushing for any romantic intimacy. Even aside from the fact that John only expresses interest in women and now has shown heartache from two major straight relationships, I really doubt Sherlock would be willing to take that sort of risk. He’s been deeply lonely for a lot of his life and John’s probably the best friend he’s ever had. Definitely not something worth risking when it’s much more likely John would be really uncomfortable.

(Doesn’t stop Sherlock from making a big effort to make a good impression on Ma Watson though. That was worth a minute of masking.)

Sherlock would certainly be SUPER concerned about any abilities he might have to be romantic anyway. Romance is a minefield for anyone, with all of the careful dancing around each other’s longings and vulnerabilities. Unassisted, Sherlock’s plans for a date would probably be a stressful mess. Maybe he’s even already experienced it.

But there’s also the issue that Sherlock is actively hiding things from John. In The Three Gables, we learn that Sherlock is super secretive about his family. I was relieved honestly, because I had thought that John had lived with Sherlock all this time and never asked about his past. It’s good to know it was just off-mic non-answers.

Obviously Mycroft is going to come up at some point, in some form. I still think he might be high-needs autistic, brilliant at government sorting, but downright unable to socialize or go anywhere besides work, home, and the Diogenes club. Maybe he’ll even be a sister in this version! That could be fun, and it’s not like Mycroft is an especially gendered name. But I’m sure he’s still going to have a significant position in the British government. Not the puppet-master he was in BBC’s Sherlock, but someone with some power and influence. I also still think he might be involved in cleaning up a few legal messes resulting from Sherlock’s cases and John’s obsession with uploading accounts of all the crimes they’ve committed.

We may also meet the extended Holmes family. I’d like that. Ma and Pa Holmes, maybe a Sherrinford (also a sister?). Hell, give Sherlock aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, whatever! Give us all the family and all the Sherlock background!

However, whoever his family is, I’m certain they’re a big deal. I think they’re super rich and paid for Sherlock to go to a bunch of different schools, to play around as a detective, and to have servants/caregivers. And I think Sherlock is very worried about how John would react if he knew, given how often John has expressed disdain for wealthy people. Sherlock doesn’t want to lie to his best friend, but he also can’t tell the truth. So he’s just saying nothing for as long as he can.

(Sherlock was definitely the one to buy or arrange for Tonga getting those football season tickets in the hospital.)

In conclusion: I continue to think that Johnlock is a real possibility on Sherlock & Co. If it’s going to happen it’s clearly going to be a hell of slow burn, but we’ve got some important groundwork now!

We know Jake is a golden hearted cutie worth of giving him a chance, but let's pretend you don't know him at all and he approaches you in a pub/at a club. How that goes?

Considering the glasses and his graphic tees, I'm definitely willing to give him a chance. If he can make me smile/laugh, he's got a good chance at getting my number. Maybe more.

I'm at the pub for dinner (bar food is some of the best, I will never change my mind on that). Not really interested in getting drunk. Just, kinda nice to get some food, sit in a corner booth and read. Maybe some people watching, but really just keeping to myself.

What I don't realize is that Jake, from across the bar, recognizes the book I'm reading. It's one of his own favorites. And my own graphic tee is from a gaming event that he watches every year! He turns to Cougar, his best friend whose skills with women are unmatched, to ask for help on how to approach.

"Wait until she sets the book down," Cougar tells him. "Don't sit across from her without permission. Crack a joke."

"You always tell me my jokes are horrible," Jake counters.

"They are. But she'll love them." Cougar gently pushes Jake towards where I'm sitting.

I've set my book down for a little bit to enjoy my food when suddenly there's someone standing next to my booth. Thinking it's a waiter I rush to finish my bite so I can tell them I don't need anything at the moment. But when I look up, he's not wearing a name tag or anything indicating he's staff. In fact, with a shirt showing two AT-ATs going at it, I'm fairly certain he's not at work.

Seeing my confusion he says the first thing that comes to mind, "Why couldn’t the computer take its hat off? Because it had a bad case of Caps Lock." I'm so grateful I wasn't taking a sip of my drink because I immediately snort at the joke and cover my mouth in embarrassment. I can't help but continue chuckling and he smiles that charming smile.

I ask him if he wants a seat and we have a pun-off for the rest of our first date.

The SR-71, unofficially known as the “Blackbird,” was a long-range, advanced, strategic reconnaissance aircraft developed from the Lockheed A-12 and YF-12A aircraft

The SR-71, unofficially known as the “Blackbird,” was a long-range, advanced, strategic reconnaissance aircraft developed from the Lockheed A-12 and YF-12A aircraft. The first flight of an SR-71 took place on Dec. 22, 1964, and the first SR-71 to enter service was delivered to the 4200th (later 9th) Strategic Reconnaissance Wing at Beale Air Force Base, Calif., in January 1966.

As we have already explained, throughout its nearly 24-year career, the SR-71 remained the world’s fastest and highest-flying operational aircraft.

Actually its incredible speed enabled it to gather intelligence in a matter of a few seconds while streaking across unfriendly skies. From 80,000 feet, it could survey 100,000 square miles of Earth’s surface per hour. And in the off chance an enemy tried to shoot it down with a missile, all the Blackbird had to do was speed up and outrun it.

Thanks to its astonishing flight characteristics, the aircraft has set numerous speed and altitude records during its career, like those established on Jul. 28, 1976 by an SR-71 that set two world records for its class – an absolute speed record of 2,193.167 mph and an absolute altitude record of 85,068.997 feet.

The U.S. Air Force retired its fleet of SR-71s on Jan. 26, 1990, because of a decreasing defense budget and high costs of operation.

Shakira isn't old, but a woman pushing 50 isn't exactly ideal for someone who claims he wants kids. Unless she froze her eggs or something, age-wise it doesn't make sense. This has to be for publicity. The way they're reporting on them dating so early after they only met up only a couple times?This is just a way for them to raise their profile. In the West, seven games separate first place Sioux Falls/Winnipeg and fourth place Kansas City, with Sioux City trying to keep pace, now just three games back of the Monarchs.

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks held "DUI Enforcement All-Stars Night" on Tuesday at Newman Outdoor Field, partnering with the North Dakota Association of Counties/Vision Zero. The team honored 21 law enforcement officers from across eastern North Dakota for their outstanding efforts in 2023 in pulling impaired drivers off the state's roads. It drew a big crowd of more than 3,100, with many family and friends in attendance.

The RedHawks were also busy in other community endeavors, teaming with The Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (BCBSND) Caring Foundation alongside the Bismarck Larks, Minot Hot Tots and Badlands Big Sticks on a $22,900 donation to Nexus-PATH Family Healing, a nonprofit serving North Dakota families and youth struggling with emotional and behavioral health challenges. The donation was based on strikeouts accumulated by the teams' pitchers over 62 games.

The Kansas City Star posted this piece on the Monarchs duo of Ross Adolph and Connor Curlis, natives of Findlay and Lima, Ohio, respectively, who reunited on the team after having competed against each other since their preteen years. Their unlikely and surprising reunion is chronicled in the piece.

Adopt A Minor Leaguer, a grassroots program that helps support players chasing their big league dreams, is running a fundraiser in support of the Sioux City Explorers for equipment they lost in the bus fire on August 2. At press time, they have raised more than $1700, with a goal of $2000 by Friday.

Kane County entertained their largest crowd of the season last Thursday, rallying for an exciting 9-7 win over Milwaukee in front of an announced attendance of 8,786 at Northwestern Medicine Field. “Outer Banks Night” made it an even more festive evening for fans.

The Cougars proved to be a road draw the next night when they visited the Gary SouthShore RailCats. A sellout crowd of 6,244 watched the home team take an exciting 3-2 win in what Gary SouthShore Assistant Coach Jason Carbonneau appropriately termed a “playoff-like atmosphere” while Manager Lamarr Rogers noted that "[t]he fans were electric, and the stadium was jumping with excitement and energy all game long."

The career record for the most stolen bases in Sioux Falls Canaries history now belongs to Wyatt Ulrich (Baudette, Minn.). The outfielder now has 77 thefts after swiping his 15th of the season on Saturday vs. Milwaukee, earning a spot on the local Dakota News Now Plays of the Week. In 301 games over four years with the Canaries, Ulrich is batting .301 with 229 runs scored and 53 doubles.

On Monday, the Chicago Dogs’ Joey Marciano (Carbondale, Ill.) set the team single season saves mark with his 19th in a 6-4 win over Kane County. His baseball journey was chronicled in the Chicago Sun Times, highlighting the fact that he ddn't play baseball at all until joining the Clemente High School squad and going on to play at SIU Carbondale.

On August 7, three members of the Lake Country DockHounds didn't just save a baseball game-they potentially saved a man's life as well. Players Marek Chlup (Turnuv, Czech Republic) and Demetrius Sims (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and broadcaster Dominic Stearn were sightseeing in Sioux Falls, S.D. when they came upon the scene of a horrific accident between a bicyclist and pedestrian. They sprung into action, each taking a task to assist the stricken victims. Read more here.

A Sioux Falls area native got a call to the Majors, in a way, as Janice Gilbert, a teacher at Tea Area HS, just southwest of the city, sang "God Bless America" on Sunday at Minnesota's Target Field. Gilbert, a country artist, has sung the National Anthem at Canaries games as well as other area and national arenas. ESPN Sioux Falls had the story.

Last week we reported that Taylor Swift fans had another reason to cheer on the Kansas City Monarchs in Style, with a theme night on Saturday rebranding the club the Kansas Swiftie Monarchs. Let’s just say fans know All Too Well that it was a Love Story, and though the Lincoln Saltdogs played the Anti-Hero, beating the home team, 5-4, Kansas City was able to Shake it Off and win, 2-1, on Sunday.

A hearty welcome home to Winnipeg to pitcher Mitchell Lambson (Tualatin, Ore.), who this week returned to the team for which the lefty saw some of his biggest professional success. Acquired from the Saraperos de Saltillo of the Mexican Baseball League, Lambson won an AAPB championship with the Goldeyes in 2017 and was named the league's Pitcher of the Year following the 2019 season, during which he went 13-4 with a 3.11 earned run average.
