Cosy December Books Reading update!
Hey guys! I can’t remember the last time I updated, but I promise I am reading lol.
I’m currently halfway through Ten Thousand Stitches and God, it is so good!! I love that even though we are following a different female MC, Effie (with the recurring character of Lord Blackthorn), it’s still entertaining to read. I love how there are more weirder and magical elements in this book too.
I can see why the blurb mentioned it being like a Cinderella twist. Effie is such a fun character and I love the friendship she has with Lydia.
Lord Blackthorn is also such a distinctive character! He’s so charismatic and light-hearted about everything, which can be a blessing when your environment screams the opposite, especially for Effie. I’m sensing a shift in what Effie desires which is not surprising but exciting all the same!
Can’t wait to see the brewing romance develop more! Give me more of the angst!

Cosy December Books 2022 TBR 📚🎄
Hey guys! So, November was a very rough month for me. I was feeling pretty low because of my current situation and hardly had any energy to read. It became one of those months where I avoided doing things I loved, thinking it would help me work and face reality.
But then I realised I was punishing myself for no reason and that it’s okay to escape your reality sometimes. How else are you going to motivate yourself and stay positive? So, I’m ready to pick myself up and have a little fun this month. What better way to do that than to read some cosy books?
The good thing is that I’m two books away from completing my goal (which is 20 books). But before I get to my tbr, I REALLY need to finish Want by Cindy Pon. According to my goodreads, I started reading it in October and haven’t made any progress (oops). I need to refresh my reading tbr, so I plan on finishing it as quickly as I can.
To make December more cosy, these are the books I’m hoping to read:
Ten Thousand Stitches by Olivia Atwater
The Lost Kingdom of Bamarre by Gail Carson Levine
Legendborn by Tracy Deonn (audiobook)
I’ve been craving some fantasy reads, so these should do the trick. I do have another book in mind, but that’s if I finish all these books lol.
If you’re in the mood of reading some cosy books too, why not join me? Whether they’ve been on your tbr for too long or you recently got a new book that you really want to read, now’s the time to read what you want!
I’ll be using #cosydecbooks22. Make sure to tag me as well, so I can see what you’re reading!
This isn’t much of a challenge but more of an opportunity to enjoy a few blissful moments of reading this Christmas. Hope you read some awesome books! ❤️

Cosy December Books Reading Update!
Hey guys! On 23rd December, I finished Ten Thousand Stitches, which means I have completed my reading goal of 20 books! Woohoo!
Things got hectic since then, so here’s a mini review:
Ten Thousand Stitches - 5⭐️
I didn’t realise how cosy the Regency era was until I started reading this series. Just like Half a Soul, this book was such a delight to read. The writing style was intriguing and kept me engrossed.
I loved Effie. She is such a strong, lovable character who’s really patient with her working conditions as a maid. I love the fact that she was never ashamed of being a maid and why should she be?
Lord Blackthorn is a recurring character from Half a Soul, but I love that there is so much more depth to his character! I love how optimistic he is and how he always brings warmth to those around him. He’s really adorable too. I guess he’s not what you would expect from a faerie which is refreshing.
The romance in this book was so beautifully written, relying on emotional connection and wanting to be a better person for another.
As funny and unusual as some of the scenes were, I appreciated how it also showed the unpleasant sides of working in a household, especially one that sees you as invisible.
I love that this book had more magical elements, from the embroidery to the gowns to the glamour. It really goes to show that when you make something for another person, it’s the fact you made it for them that makes it special and heartwarming. Effie may not think she is talented but it’s perfect for whoever she made her embroidery for. It made me feel like getting back into crafts actually.
We also got more of an insight into the faerie world. Blackthorn is one quirky place to be in lol.
I did find the first moment with Effie and Benedict sweet but I love how the story develops and turns a different turn from what you would expect.
This book teaches you a lot too, to stand up for yourself, to see the good side of a person and not succumb to judgement, and to truly experience love by how one always makes you feel, not in spontaneous encounters.
It was nice to see Dora and Elias’ kid, Abigail in this book. I know she will be the main character for the third book, so I can’t wait to see how her character develops.
Ten Thousand Stitches was the perfect book to read in December. It filled me with enough warmth and coziness to last the end of the year!

Cosy December books reading update!
So, I’m happy to report that I finished Want by Cindy Pon! I don’t know why it took me so long. I think I was losing my rhythm with it a bit. Here’s a mini review:
Want - 3.5⭐️
I liked the Sci-Fi concepts of the book and how the world had to adapt due to the overwhelming pollution. I loved the futuristic Taipei vibes in the book too and the enhanced technology. It’s not surprising to see the conflict between the rich and poor either.
I liked Zhou’s character. I tried not to notice how many times he mentions “breasts” (I get it, you’re a dude 😂), but he grows on you the more you read the book. I like characters that quote from books. I thought his dynamic with Daiyu was sweet, the way he didn’t want to hurt her but their mission had to come first.
The main highlights for me were his friends. I loved the diversity in this family dynamic too, (with an Indian science genius who wasn’t stereotyped) and how they all had their own stand out personalities like Iris and Victor. They kept the story interesting for me. Also, Iris and Lingyi were a sweet lesbian couple!
The problems I had with this book was that I wasn’t gripped from the beginning, so it was hard to motivate myself to read the book. I realised that while I was getting other things done, I didn’t miss the book or feel like continuing it. The second half definitely got more interesting though.
The ending wasn’t as dramatic as I thought it would be. When you have a villain that puts profit over lives and you build up this image, you would expect to see him more in the book, but you get one moment with the guy and that’s it. I felt like the revenge was more targeted on his headquarters instead (even though that was the plan, it wasn’t enough punishment for me I guess lol). I also didn’t like what happened to a particular character and the fact that he probably won’t be in the sequel. I wish we had a final moment with him before he disappeared.
I was also confused about Daiyu’s intentions. I knew she wasn’t as gullible as they thought she would be, but her reason for helping them wasn’t very convincing. I get Zhou’s reason because they lost a loved one because of Jin. But for Daiyu to go against her father? I get that he’s a bad guy but there has to be some motivation behind it.
I’m not sure about reading the sequel tbh. The book felt like a standalone, but I know the whole rebellion against Jin isn’t over. We’ll see.

Me too! I knew this series would easily become one of my favourites. I stayed up late to read more of the book and already, it’s gotten more intense! I have to say, what Effie says to Lady Culver was so powerful 😊
