I wanted to post this on the 15th but, hey, we're on the last day of September, Costa Rica's patriotic month, so it still counts 😤

I also wanted to participate in the worldwide Miku trend, but it felt like all the cool takes were already made when it comes to "Costa Rican Miku", so, I just did a portrait with a witchy-esque vibe~

Also, the hair turning into water is a little reference to our "Rio Celeste", a beautiful river which is actually cian/turquoise ❤

Central region, San Jose now this is a layered character, Marito Mortadela was and still is one of the icons of the capital. The "Moto" is a costarican novel about a man who loses his mom and stuff happens. The word "moto" refers to a motherless calf. Tico is the demonym for costaricans it comes from the use of sufixes that make words mean 'smaller' (exmp un poquito'a litle bit')

El fortin de heredia is national patrimony, and Heredia just happens to be known and the "city of flowers" don't ask me the why because even if i studied history 6 years i still got no idea. But fairy pokemon yaaaaay-

Juan Santa Maria is your typical folk hero whom is rumored to have lived in Alajuela. His big action was burning the general barracks of the filibusters(people from the usa lmao) who wanted to invade central america.

Limon is the caribbean side of CR, so a giant turtle pokemon that plays national calypso seemed fitting.

"Metalurgia" in spanish refers to the work with metals in precolombinian times. this is inspired by the figure of Sibo an ancient god of brunca,cabecar and bribri culture.

A guardian of the south, his name is worldplay of juaguar in the bribri dialect! He is inspired by the regional masks used for dances and traditions in the region.

the matron of cr, la virgencita de los angeles. it is said she was found near a fountain and when people took her, she appeared again near the water. Being a mayorly catholic country her presence is beloved by most of Costa Rica. so ofc she's legendary.

Fun fact there was a year i did the pilgrimage for my allergies my mom bathed me in her water and i got cured(temporarly ofc.and also im not very religous but it was a soft and sweet experience!)

In the shop now: An authentic, vintage, hand-painted & signed Costa Rican “carreta” in a smaller size suitable for a serving cart in a covered deck or patio area. Complete with matching, painted wooden handled box and grid for serving and holding bottles. As an added bonus, the cart can be completely disassembled and reassembled like a puzzle.

Larger ox carts became a significant means of transportation for rural Costa Ricans after they were introduced to the area circa 1840. Farmers used ox carts to transport valuable crops like coffee beans or sugar cane. The carreta was valued for its ability to maneuver over all types of hazardous terrain.

Over the centuries, cars & trucks replaced the ox cart as transportation. However, ox carts then gained new life as a celebrated form of artwork. The ox cart has even taken on a symbolic significance, commemorating Costa Rica traditions and agricultural history, and was officially declared a national symbol of Costa Rica some 30 years ago. Visitors to Costa Rica can witness carretas in all their traditional glory during the "Día del Boyero" (Day of the Drover) parade, which is held in the city of Escazú every year on the second Sunday in March.

Carretas are now decorated with bright colors and intricate designs. They often boast floral motifs, and the wheels are emblazoned with mandala-like patterns. The artisans who craft carretas also painstakingly choose the pieces of wood from which the wheels will be crafted, specifically so that the carts will make a pleasant sound as they roll through the streets. The wheels consist of sixteen wedge-shaped pieces of wood arranged in a circle and bound with a metal ring.

this weekend I hung out with a guy who was mexican and his spanish had the pronunciation of someone whose first language is english but he also had a mild mexican accent and on toooop of that our costarican accents were starting to rub off on him so the way he spoke was so endearing
