It really makes me think about the value of enjoying life. Years and years of stress sitting in McKinsey or building an agency just feels like a waste. And about the value of building your own things.

But I did some x research and the solopreneurs say it can take a couple years of runway to break even with frugal living expenses.

I think the only way I can do another 2 years of indie hacking with no real guaranteed income is if I love my life.

A rough list but I just don’t want to feel like I’m wasting time. And I kinda feel depressed like that in my parents basement. I'm worried though about my spirits getting down from seeing no progress too.

Additionally, I have 23k in student loans to pay off. Need to do my own healthcare soon (5k/y minimum), and would need ≈15k to last 2 years in a third world country. So it's probably best to run up some savings by providing services and living at home for a bit. So I'd need 43k to be debt free and 2 years living, or by contributing the minimum loan payments it would be 20k.

This could take about a year to make, so maybe settling in at home is my only option. I could take vacations here and there to keep myself sane though.

From my hazy memory (May 1998) - Costa Rica, C.A.

After a protracted illness, her mother peacefully passed away three months prior to me deciding to take us both on a long-needed vacation. I was not a conventional father and decided to take my daughter to Costa Rica, which at the time was not the tourist destination it is today. I had traveled extensively in Latin America and had met countless AA pilots that had settled there because it was peaceful, cheap and cool. After arriving in San Jose, I rented a Jeep for two weeks and we drove mostly around the central highlands and Pacific coast. Traveling with a young child was ideal in Latin America. It opened many doors and mothers would bring her cookies and give me tips about where to eat and stay. The most memorable tip was an “eco-resort” that hadn’t quite yet received government “eco” status. It was basically a working farm on the edge of the jungle that a family member in the village two hours back suggested we visit and stay at. She forgot to mention the roads that would eat an SUV alive. After we finally found it and met the owners/hosts, we had a great home-cooked meal. Afterwards, they let us take two horses out for a ride around the hacienda and surrounding jungle paths. The guy says, “Don’t worry they’ll stay on the path.” And basically, they did. No guide, no clue where the path led, we just trotted along and returned about two hours later. As we were leading the horses back into the barn, there was some commotion in a corner of the barnyard over a teak box about the size of a large foot locker. We walked over and one of the farm hands tells me that they had just caught a jaguar, which was in the crate. It had narrow slits along the top that allowed only a minimal penetration of light. As we got closer, the low guttural growl of the giant cat sounded like a ‘71 Charger idling at a stop light. Then, I caught a glimpse of light that reflected off one of its eyes.
