H. Hhhh. Hi. I don't know if you'd want to/be okay with this but. But. But
šŸ¤ with Skaide šŸ„ŗ
(If not then Jaide/Moonjumper with the same prompt! It's totally okay if you do this one instead)
Grins :)
For everyone who doesnā€™t know, Sky belongs to the asker here, and is zeir AHiT OC! Sky and Jaide have been shipped (only in an rp so far, but now also in this drabble) <3
At first I figured that I wouldnā€™t know how to characterize Sky, and then I realizedā€¦I just didnā€™t have to.
So! Sorry, this one is shorter than the Hollow Knight one, but I think itā€™s sweet :)
Words: 215
Characters: Jaide (My OC) and Sky (Friendā€™s OC)
Warnings: None :) Just some introspection on Jaideā€™s bitter loneliness and how she loves
Together, Jaide decided, thatā€™s how I want things to be.
It feltā€¦niceā€¦to be together. For their palms to be together, fingers interlocked, the contact sending emotional shivers through Jaideā€™s soul.
When had she last had softer thoughts like this? How long ago had it been since she sat back and thought to herself that she liked something? At least centuries, if not decades.
That was a lonely way to spend an afterlife, but all of that was erased in the face of someone who had no concept of time. With Sky by her side, time waned away, and the massive expanse of time Jaide had existed seemed like nothing.
Jaide had been alone for all that time. Sheā€™d been cold for all that time. Sheā€™d never met anyone in all that time. Sheā€™d never held hands in all that time. All that time made one forget what it menat to be togetherā€¦
ā€¦but Sky could easily remind Jaide.
And the reminder was nice.
When had she last had happy thoughts like this?
Perhaps a bit greedily, Jaide took Skyā€™s other hand. It wasnā€™t enough for one of their hands to be touching, she needed two. Jaide smiled gently, eyes brimming with tears, giving Skyā€™s palm a gentle squeeze.
She hoped they would be together forever.

šŸ“£ What to Read After Watching: Nimona šŸŽžļø
šŸ©· I stumbled upon She-Ra and the Princesses of Power from creator, showrunner, and executive producer ND Stevenson in 2018 and never looked back. It was one of the few projects, let alone animations, I ever watched that so blatantly flipped the script by highlighting inclusivity without needing to say it outright. Queerness was simply a way of human existence; representation mattered but didn't need to be outrightly defined. Again, ND Stevenson has flipped the script, this time by bringing his webcomic from page to screen. The story became an outlet for Stevenson to express his own nonconforming gender identity. The shape-shifting title character, Nimona, is a stunning example of unapologetic transness and gender fluidity, again, without needing to say it outright. If you haven't watched it yet, Nimona is now available on Netflix, with the original comic available online and in stores.
šŸ©· If you HAVE seen it and adored Nimonia's punk-pop chaos, don't worry; there's plenty more where that came from! Here are a few options you should consider reading after watching Nimona!
šŸ©· The Girl From the Sea by Molly Knox Ostertag šŸ©· Mooncakes by Suzanne Walker šŸ©· CosmoKnights by Hannah Templer šŸ©· The Night Eaters by Marjorie Liu šŸ©· Lumberjanes by Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, Gus Allen, and ND Stevenson šŸ©· Save Yourself! by Bones Leopard šŸ©· Kim Reaper by Sarah Graley šŸ©· Moonstruck by Grace Ellis and Shae Beagle šŸ©· Snapdragon by Kat Leyh

queer (fantasy) recommendations
queer
Gender Queer by Maia Kobabe āž”ļø memoir told in graphic novel form, the authorā€™s journey to identifying as non-binary and asexual. as a genderqueer asexual person, this book really resonated with me
I Kissed Shara Wheeler by Casey McQuiston āž”ļø YA novel about a girl who gets kissed by her rival at prom, who then disappears. it sucked me in and i read it in two days
Loveless by Alice Oseman āž”ļø college girl discovers that sheā€™s aroace as sapphic chaos explodes in the background. again, the aroace rep is really good
The Black Flamingo by Dean Atta āž”ļø verse story about a mixed race, queer teen who finds a community in doing drag at his university. the coming out poem in the back made me cry when someone sent it to me without context
queer fantasy
Gideon The Ninth by Tamsyn Muir āž”ļø lesbian necromancers in space, or: girl with a sword gets dragged into a set of bizarre challenges with her nemesis to become one of the saints to necromantic god. this gave me tsoa-level emotional damage but for different (and similar) reasons
Harrow The Ninth by Tamsyn Muir āž”ļø the sequel to Gideon. even more batshit insane (/pos) than the first book, basically answering the question of ā€œwhat happens if you have a really repressed, depressed lesbian and she has to work with some weird old peopleā€. continued the standard set by Gideon and made me emotional
Cosmoknights by Hannah Templer āž”ļø graphic novel about space gays who want to take down the patriarchy. Iā€™ve only read the first volume (the second one is being released chapter by chapter online and I havenā€™t been vibing with that style lately) but it is GOOD
honorable mentions
Sabriel by Garth Nix āž”ļø high fantasy about a girl going into the dangerous, magical Old Kingdom to saved her father from the realm of Death. some seriously inventive, well-written worldbuilding and definitely my favorite depiction of death/necromancy. remarkably progressive gender-wise considering it came out 25 years ago
Circe by Madeline Miller āž”ļø story of Circeā€™s life. crosses paths with multiple big greek mythology figures and there are several tsoa references. MM seems to have taken more creative liberty with this one and some of it Iā€™m not a fan of but overall a good book
i will probably have more to add to the queer fantasy section of this once Iā€™ve read more of my tbr. please please read circe if you read and loved tsoa
if anyone has other recs feel free to share them!
