When all the Arcane s2 episodes are released, I will finally start redesigning Jocasta (my OC) and rewriting her story. More precisely, I have finished with the design (it remains to draw. I am at the sketch stage), I have stopped writing the story for now, because I need to find out the events of the entire 2nd season in order to continue writing her story. I am also working on the stories of Viktor and Jocasta in two of my AU (Nine-Tailed Demon [Cyberpunk AU] and Gods and Mortals [AU inspired by Genshin Impact, specifically the story and aesthetics of Liyue]). In general, the work is in full swing) I am also working on skin designs for Jocasta in different skinlines. List of skinlines:

Favourite skinline: Star Guardian has a special place in my heart. Even though I have my complaints, it was one of the things that made me into a full writer for League.

📱- This post will be a disaster because mobile but. Thinking about how… rito seems scared to do anything serious and edgy with Xayah and Rakan sometimes. At least when it comes to new verses. Broken covenant is close with Rakan, giving him a bit of a twist… but it’s kind of yet another skinline that Xayah is semi shafted.

And I’m saying this as someone who actually enjoys most of Xayah’s skins… but it feels like the stories crafted for them are so… surface level and vanilla these days.

Corrupted SG is the best skin not just because of the looks but it felt like the best reflection of the two.

Mainverse Xayah is not fully a hero. She is willing to let innocents die for her cause, she’s bitter and hateful. Rakan follows her while also keeping her in line but will do what he needs to her for her. Which corrupted SG reflects. Every other skin so far has like. Half heartedly attempted to make Xayah a neutral character where she’s neither the hero nor the villain, but idk it feel like they diminish what makes her exciting and mellow her out at the same time. She and Rakan are stripped of sounding dangerous and cool and left just being the forbidden love story… arcana, cosmic, broken covenant (didn’t start out forbidden I guess but lol), elderwood… even sg in a way because they were on opposing sides for most of the time lol.

Like. They can have this love story but we can make it something different, rito. And spice them up, give them their threat, their dynamic of Xayah being callous and kind of an anti-hero and Rakan a powerful not-just-the-boyfriend-who-needs-to-be-saved.

I have a lot of interest in broken covenant partially because I want to take the basics and make them way more intriguing because right now Xayah is once again just there to save Rakan lol.

And like another thought (I’m spaghetti braining right now don’t at me), they’re gunna be nerfed so fucking hard if they’re used anymore in SG just because they’re not corrupted anymore I bet. Like the two of them held off two teams of guardians alone and together while evil and they’ve learned to use their dark powers so theoretically they should now be some of the strongest of the guardians

But you know… you just know they’re gunna just be there and undermined/ignored/weakened because “lol they’re no longer needed to be the big baddies”

Outside of sweetheart, I don’t hate the skins really but. I feel like rito just throws them in half the time rather than really representing their characters and then they wonder why lol people think they’re annoying and nothing more - all this potential and they’re reduced to just their relationship 80% of the time in any skin not main. Their relationship is SUPER important but the dynamic and the balance is lacking a lot.

River Spirit Nami (Nami Iara)

Once upon a time, a young farmer was enchanted by music coming from the deep jungle, and followed it to the grove of a ricer spirit. Overcome by her beauty, he went to embrace her—and was dragged screaming into the emerald waters below, never to be seen again.

Concept:

One of my favorite skins, Nami Iara is a concept that naturally comes to her. As the game’s “mermaid champion", her skin pool should be entirely dependent on what can be done with her tail. Older skins like Koi or Deep Sea take full advantage of it by casting her as a sea creature, while her more recent skins like Splendid Staff, Cosmic Destiny, Bewitching, and Space Groove don't necessarily do that.

River Spirit fully embraces her mermaid origins, but rather than being the more generic siren-type, River Spirit Nami takes from an indigenous Brazilian folklore. Although, this may have been more due to Cassiopeia already fulfilling that role in this skinline.

"In the forest, under the moonlight...guided by the song of the river...I couldn't believe what I saw."

I grew up reading many different iterations of the Iara myth (though they were all of Mauricio de Sousa’s creations). My favorite, I believe, came from a large green book, a collection of several other Brazilian folklores including the headless mule, the saci, and the pink dolphin.

In this version, Iara is a beautiful indigenous woman who goes out into the forest, gets lost, and becomes a mermaid. It fully omits the conflict of envy and betrayal that is present in most other versions and Iara's death before she transforms. Nami Iara is betrayed and killed by her own tribe, but connects her to base Nami's kindheartedness by opting for the more modern casting of Iara as a guardian of nature, specifically bodies of water. Nami is lured to her death by the threat of pollution and in her rebirth, vows to protect the natural world.

Design:

River Spirit Nami’s concept art is beautiful. I think the design does a wonderful job of conveying her Brazilian, specifically Amazonian, origins through its colors and accessories. It’s always a bit difficult to work with Nami’s “hair” and though it looks great in the concept art and model, I do find it a little difficult to see in-game. What I can appreciate though is the decision to allow her to be topless like many indigenous women, especially those from the group that the Iara myth originated from. The tribal paint also connects her to her indigenous roots while also having some story significance, but it’s mostly used to provide a semblance of a top (interestingly, Nami, as an aquatic/sometimes amphibious being, has breasts but no nipples lol). Lastly, I really do love the design of her staff but I wish that the mirror either had more significance or didn’t exist at all.

Splash Art:

Personally, I’m a huge fan of the splash art. I find it does a good job of portraying that more alluring side of both Iara and Nami.

Model:

The model will almost always look worse than the splash art, especially for champions with older models like Nami. Wild Rift does an excellent job on the model but you really can’t compare the two. Going back to the design, looking at the model head-on does make her forehead appear a little strange, especially with the middle strand that is part of her “hair” in her base form but part of her headdress in this skin. From the sides, though, which is probably the angle the player will usually be seeing the model, it looks quite nice. I also love her tail despite it, as well as the rest of the skin, having more muted colors than the splash art. And though I liked the staff in the concept art, I don’t really like it in the splash or model. The piranhas are cute and I appreciate all the work that went into representing the Iara myth and, by extension, Brazilian culture.

Chromas:

No chromas.

Animations:

The only new animation is in her recall where she is sat on a rock and singing, an obvious reference to Iara. It’s pretty simple, but I do enjoy her head and face movements.

VFX:

Aside from making the water greener, there’s not much of a difference from base Nami. The yellow sparkle-like effects on her abilities are very pretty though.

SFX:

No new sound effects.

However, her recall does feature a vocalization of the very first part of Nami’s theme.

Voice Over:

I previously implied that Nami is not fit to play a vengeful character, but this skin's new voice lines, unique to Brazilian servers, portray her quite well. Like base Nami, she is intent on protecting her home, in this case, the river. However unlike base Nami, she does not have the love of her people to motivate her or fall back on and her voice lines reflect that as she denounces those who have betrayed her while also using that pain to fuel her mission of protecting nature.

Additionally, I'm not sure how many people find Nami "sexy", but she does have a few voice lines that are meant to be more alluring ("I'll meet you where the river bends." or "Your heart? I'll steal it!") as Iara is, above all, a siren who enchants men with her song before dragging them to the bottom of the river to drown. I find these voice lines adorable, more than anything.

Below are some of her new voice lines as well as the several changes to her original ones that were made to be more relevant to the skin’s background:

“We are all tied to the ocean.” —> “We are all tied to nature.”

“I will see my home again.” —> “Will I see my home again?”

(I’m not entirely sure if this is an altered line or a completely new one) “They’re puddle monsters at best.” —> “They’re nothing but traitors.”

“This is minnow’s play.” —> “This is lambari’s (a freshwater fish similar to a tetra) play.”

“Ew, whale breath.” —> “Ew, piranha breath.”

“I moonlight as a shark caller.” —> “I moonlight as an alligator caller.”

“My innocence was my downfall.”

And the fan-favorite ultimate line: “From the source (in reference to birth but also a water source) to your death!”

Value:

This skin is a personal favorite of mine, though not necessarily the most visually appealing. Recent (League of Legends) Nami skins have made her a conventionally cute mermaid girl, which, in turn, reinforces that archetype and generates more conventionally cute mermaid girl skins for her. For 975 RP, I think it’s a much better skin than Koi Nami, but Urf the Nami-Tee is cheaper at only 750 RP and arguably the cutest of her older skins.
