i just watched the dallas theatre company les mis here are my observations

IF YOU HAVE NOT WATCHED THIS PRODUCTION I SUGGEST YOU DO! DON’T READ THIS IF YOU DON’T WANT SPOILERS THOUGH!

so, in case you didn’t know: in 2014, Dallas Theatre Company did a modern interpretation of les mis. i just watched it on youtube (i will link it later, i promise) and took SO MANY GODDAMN NOTES so here they are!

ACT ONE 

(Look Down-WHID)

starting out strong! we got some HARSH TRUTHS ABOUT THE JAIL SYSTEM!! blatant police brutality happening BASICALLY the entire first part of the song. it hurts me. 

note on the cops costumes: they legitimately terrify me and they are dressed in like. full riot gear.

okay so,,,valjean wraps the rope from his bag around his neck at the end of WHID. this is interesting bc, a) he’s trying to find a solution as to what he should do after the Bishop and that’s a direction I’ve surprisingly seen no one take, but b) this part has the same melody as javert’s suicide, when javert is ALSO trying to figure out what he should do after his perception on life is altered. for a moment there, they both are on the same page, the page being suicide. however, only one of them takes that choice.

the above makes the lines (in both songs) “i’ll escape now from that world / from the world of valjean” ESPECIALLY interesting because. in two different ways, they did escape, but they ALMOST had the same conclusion for a brief second.

the line “safe behind bars” in stars kind of kills me here because as the audience you SEE the cruelty that the convicts face. you see the guy on the ground getting beaten you SEE the chains around their throats and yet. yet javert still somehow thinks that putting jvj in jail is safe? i think the thing to focus on here is not whether it’s safe, because it obviously isn’t. the focus is who it’s safer for, jean valjean or javert?

has it always been “your father” rather than “her father” when marius asks éponine to find where cosette lives?? if they changed it that is SMART because yk. jvj would be ALARMED if he found out he’d been found by éponine but he wouldn’t hurt her. he’s not the guy she has to worry about, it’s her own father. thenardier gave her a job and she’s straying from it, he’s what would endanger her.

Neiitherrrr. :) Gotta love being “essential.” I’m a geologist who works at a geotechnical engineering company, and since we work in tandem with construction, that makes us “essential.” Top that off with my bosses refusing to let us do office work from home, and I get to go and constantly expose myself and others. Movies: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, Frozen 2, Aladdin 2019, The Three Muskateers (1993), Jurassic Park: Lost World and 3

Shows: Star Trek Voyager, DuckTales 2017, Be Our Chef, Star Trek TOS, and, unfortunately, Bestars, as well as Locke and Key. I highly do not recommend either.

I’m not really sitting down and watching any of these, honestly. I just sorta watch what I feel like for as long as i feel like watching it. Like, considering putting on Labyrinth here soon.

At this literal moment, nothing. But I have been skewing towards mostly Sleeping At Last because the world is just too crazy for me, with a healthy dose of Into the Unknown by Panic! At the Disco on repeat.

Working on Finishing The Lost World by Michael Crichton. Also bouncing around into the Sawbones book and Walk Like a Buddha after I finally finished A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur’s Court by Mark Twain.

What are you doing for self-care?

I deleted the Facebook app so I couldn’t hop on it all the time, and I am also trying to give myself space and permission to do whatever the fuck I want while the world is in chaos. My word counts that I had been so good about keeping last month have entirely slipped, and even now I am messing around on Tumblr, instead of typing up either the Spirk piece or the smut piece which I am considering sharing for the first time. I’m trying to tell myself it is totally okay to not be productive and to instead drink a whole bottle of champagne with some orange juice and call life good. :)

Next Generation AU Part 1

So, I’m finally going to talk about my ideas for this, and this will probably just be like part one cause I have a lot of ideas for this, but anways:

The couples from the last post end up with the following households:

Mari/Adrien: Emma (15), Louis(13), Hugo(12), Bridgette(6) (their happy accident)

Alya/Nino: Annette(15), Percy and Alice (twins, 12), Olive (9), and Caroline (I’m not sold on the name yet, but she’s 2)

Chloe/Lila: Brienne and Suki (Both 13)

Other couples and families of note:

Ivan/Mylene: Archer (15), Macy (14), Jolie (13)

Juleka/Rose: Cosette (14)

Sabrina (single-mom): Carina (12)

As well as a random other character named Mason who isn’t part of a known character’s family.

So, Emma takes after her father both in appearance and some of his hobbies like fencing, piano, and being a clueless ham. Louis takes after Mari in that he’s very into fashion, decor, and art, and he’s super smart, and he’s hopeless around his crush (which I’ll get to in a second). Hugo is kind of the wild card who is a mix of both Mari and Adrien, and he takes after Tom cause he loves baking and sweets and wants to take over the bakery some day and Tom is just so proud, wow. Bridgette is kind of just the average one. She’s the real one among the chaos that is the rest of her family. 

Emma starts off with a crush on her friend/classmate Mason, but he’s kind of oblivious so all of her attempts to flirt are in vain because she’s so far in the friend zone in his mind. Louis has an enormous crush on Brienne and is entirely useless when she’s around. He’s best friends with Suki who is hopelessly in love with him. Hugo is also like the really adorable and attractive one, so he has a lot of fangirls/boys cause he’s a actual cinnamon roll who can make a mean cinnamon roll, but his one true love is baking. Percy and Alice are both his best friends and hardcore in love with him, and they even love that he is more focused on baking than romance. Brienne on the other hand is super gay in love with Emma. So a nice little flow chart:

Suki -> Louis -> Brienne -> Emma -> Mason

Percy and Alice -> Hugo -> Cake

Now for the important stuff!

Now that Adrien and Mari are older and have settled down and into careers and have kids and stuff, decide that it’s time to pass on their Miraculouses and move on. They return to Master Fu’s shop for the last time and say painful goodbyes to Tikki and Plagg who they give back to Master Fu along with their Miraculouses. He wishes them well, and they return to their lives, expecting never to see their kwami again.

Shortly after they do so, a mystery villain has appeared wielding a bird Miraculous (the sparrow) who robs banks and stuff.

So, I talked in LC CH14 about how the turtle gets passed on from master to apprentice, and Master Fu’s time is growing short, so he decides to take on an apprentice to teach and train so that when his time is up the cycle will continue since the last chosens he picked have moved on and the new guardian can have a fresh start to face this new threat. He stumbles upon Annette and sees a lot of potential in her, so he gives her a test which she passes, and afterward he offers to train her which she nervously accepts.

He explains that her first task will be to choose new masters for the Ladybug and Chat Noir earrings and ring. She needs to find two people who can work together well, and who would be good for the kwami inside, so she goes to school and looks around and sees Emma and Louis bickering over something stupid like usual, but she sees how they support each other with their crushes and schoolwork and stuff, and decides to give the Miraculouses to them. (Emma gets CN and Louis gets LB) She goes back to Master Fu super nervous about her decision, but he assures her that all she can do is wait and see. 

When Sparrow attacks again, he’s apprehended by Beetlebug and Lady Chat (the names are a WIP), but he ultimately gets away but not before making a flirtatious pass at Chat which grosses her out. Upon returning home, the two heroes land on the same roof and are surprised to find each other which is how they discover who they are. Annette is relieved that everything seemed to work out, and Master Fu tells her to keep an eye on them.

One day when Mari goes into Emma’s room to collect her laundry, she notices that her clothes smell an awful lot like Adrien’s used to and it’s a scent that she learned over the years to pick out anywhere. Camembert. She calls Adrien in to confirm, and the two wonder why on Earth her clothes would smell like Camembert when she hates it (just like her dad), and they slowly piece together that holy crap our daughter is Lady Chat, and Adrien is like super proud that his first born takes after him.

They see on the news that BB and LC are out fighting crime at the time, so they sit and wait for Emma to come back trying way too hard to seem casual and cool. So she comes back in through the window and nearly has a heart attack when she runs into her parents waiting for her, and they try and be all sly like “Oh, how long have you been a superhero? Is it dangerous?” but like Adrien just can’t contain how proud he is, and he hugs her super tight. In the meantime, Louis went to go creep spy on Brienne who is walking home from her martial arts class at that time, and once she makes it home safely, he goes back home and pops into Emma’s window to ask if he can borrow a game and oh, hey, hi, mom and dad. Marinette and Adrien are beside themselves with laughter because two of their kids literally took after them and Emma and Louis are super confused, so they sit them down and explain and Tikki and Plagg are so happy to see their old masters and it looks like they’ll be able to see each other again after all.

Anyways, another thing from LC is that the Miraculous have dormant phases and active phases based on whether or not there is someone worthy of wielding them, so the peacock wakes back up after being asleep since Mama Agreste gives it up (spoilers) and a new one on a different floor wakes up later too, but the peacock ends up with Brienne. 

I’m going to leave this here for now cause I’m tired and I have to get up in the morning, and there’s so much more to be explained so consider this part 1, but I’ll be back with part 2 tomorrow!

I feel touched and honored and this time I'm making an effort to open my eyes and take it all in.

 Darren Hayes says:  Violetfly,  its very moody and its a bit deceptive because the first songs are quite poppy. I used to listen to the comments made on BBS about "I Knew I loved You"  and many were concerned it was a boy band record  but the reality is "I Knew I Loved You" is the only song that sounds like that. It¹s the only happy "up" naive love song that goes to a lot of dark places. If you liked "Mine" you'll love "Gunning Down Romance"

 Darren Hayes says:  TMD, logistically Daniel and I were in two separate places. He'd send me disks and I'd record lyrics to instrumentals. It¹s a more personal record than the first one and we had more money and time to spend, which you can hear. It still sounds like Savage Garden with a sense of melancholy and atmospheric.

Its a record for charity and its going to help children everywhere o you should really check it out.

I realize my family and friends experience that without asking for it and my family friends sometimes get a hard time. People expect them to be millionaires. Fame to me is a metaphor that God has used to teach me about myself. I think its an elaborate journey designed to give me life lessons and maybe for you to take control of your life and learn.

 Darren Hayes says: Aussie Dream, thank you very much. I never used to study voice at all. I was just a kid who used to sing in the bathroom. About half way through the tour last year I started having problems with my voice so I started seeing a voice coach and she's amazing. I think you can hear the difference. I have to tell you singing has an effect on me. I feel it in my body its' almost a religious experience. It's literally joy.

I used to do chats to get comfort and attention but now I understand that its an important job to give people 5 minutes of peace in a chaotic world and to let you know you're not alone. I feel the things you feel. I deal in them in different ways. "Crash and Burn" is a lullaby to myself and reassurance to you saying that everybody hits rock bottom and that¹s okay. That¹s what friends are for. You pick yourself and get going. We aren't designed to be happy 100% of the time and when you accept that you see highs and lows you put all together and you have memories.

The lyric is describing a motel room with two beds and a coffee machine. I won't explain too much further because I want the story to unfold when you hear the song for the first time.

sorry i’m more absent than usual. :(

my poor cosette is in the hospital. she may have some liver problems. :(

her red blood cells are low, and she’s pretty lethargic and yellowy. she improved with fluids and medication, but not as much as they hoped. so she is stable for now, but we moved her to a specialist hospital for more tests.

she’s feeling a little better, and is cuddling and purring. so i hope it’s something we will be able to treat, but we will need to wait for her ultrasound to tell us more.

she looks very pitiful. :(

i am just going to hang out at the vet all evening until i have her results, bc it’s very far away and going back and forth is expensive.

eta: it only took a few hours. she has lipidosis. :( she needs to stay and be given a nasogastric tube to give her some more nutrition. but she doesn’t have cancer, and she has a reasonable chance of recovering. we will hear more tomorrow morning when the specialist can see her.

i did get to see the eclipse partially, though. here you go:

it’s really inconvenient that this happened so soon after i got out of the hospital. there is never time to recover from anything. :(

having to explain all these delays to the school is going to be so uncomfortable. :/
