Knights of the Night Sky 14
Hey, hey, hey, it‘s been forever but the knights are back in this kinda lukewarm installment of Nemo rambles about his roleplaying sessions.
So, first Knight’s business:
The apprentice three who were looking for a wolpertinger, find one, but also can’t see it, because it’s owned by a snooty noble. They are instructed to contact Ser Danova.
There’s some trouble with the bugbears because they want to eat Wilda’s goats, but Kendrick sorts it out with peaceful talking.
There’s a question of money, seeing that the knights need to hire people but they also need money.
Our heroes send some of their money with the bugbears to Lir to take to the HQ.
They decide to ask Queen Margaretha for financial assistance.
And also ask Lir to see if he can find what the knights did to earn money before their fall.
Our friends, having parted from the bugbears and their guide Wilda, reach the settlement in Half Moon Valley.
They see Rei-Lin, who’s been staying there with Gordan and Anil for a while.
Rei-Lin takes them to see Gordan, who’s staying with his brother Miro. They ask Miro about people who might know about people who know about orc magic.
Miro tells them of an orc druid named Dranja who knows a lot about orc magic. She doesn’t see people though. They are, however in luck, as there is a man who is delivering an item to Dranja.
The man needs to have someone to come with him there, as Dranja lives on the other side of a stormbelt, and it’s a tough trip to make on one’s own.
They meet up with the man, who turns out to be this young human sailor, named Kasbir, who agrees to their proposition.
They are explained the complicated steps to get to Dranja’s place.
Before going to bed, our heroes go see Anil, who’s been stuck at the healer’s hut.
While waiting for Anil to be freed, Kendrick decides to help out, and Lutharin decides to “help” out, as in accidentally breaks something.
Anil gently pokes Lutharin out, and deals with that with Jeff’s help.
They have a lovely chat outside, after that mess. Anil’s been super-busy at the healer’s hut, but doesn’t seem to mind.
He also thanks Kendrick for the encouragement in the whole, kinda being in love with Gordan, tho he admits he still hasn’t quite got the words out. Gordan seems to have gotten the point though.
He’s also curious about the local orcish drums, but hasn’t gotten his hands onto one yet.
For the rest of the night Dophina, Jeff and Kendrick help at the healer’s hut while Lutharin goes pick flowers and herbs, and oh boy does he pick the mother of all flower-picking spots.
Next morning our heroes and their new-found sea-faring friend head towards Dranja’s place. The first part of the trip, which is walking straight for 8 hours, goes without a hitch.
They get to a storm shelter, right before a storm hits them, and there they stay until the storm has died down three times.
Lutharin stays up to listen while others rest.
On the second peaceful moments the shelter is entered by an orc man, who offers them sausages.
On the third calm, they get up and go, leaving the stranger behind. They tie themselves together, as the winds might pick up. Kendrick in the middle, with gnomes on either side, with Lutharin and Kasbir at the ends.
They have to climb up to a higher plane, which they do using stairs.
Stairs also go perfectly fine, but there’s a few scary moments at the plains, the scariest of which is avoided by Kasbir’s and Lutharin’s graceful double-nat 20′s.
They get to the abandoned castle, where Djarna lives. Before they even find her, they hear a strange rattling sound, which turns out to be storms in a bottle.
Kasbir delivers to Djarna her magical object, and in exchange gets a compass.
Djarna ignores the others, until they mention Orgoth, the original keeper of the Necklace of the Forest.
Turns out Djarna is Orgoth’s descendant.
She explains a bit more about the necklaces. Basically the magic in the necklaces is from somewhere else than here, cos otherwise it would have been absorbed into the world (current theory, it was from the sun). It was dwarves idea at first to put the magic into the stars, while the orcs sealed it. Djarna could re-seal them, but it would be most useful to get new stars to put them in, or to release the magic, by destroying the necklaces, but they would need to get the fifth necklace back to do that.
So, a good idea would be to find Bard, which they were going to try to do anyway, by going to Spring Hope.
Poor Kasbir is very confused, but also in too deep and he has an access to a boat, so our four fellows are going to take him in for a while.
That’s about it, although I will reveal as much as that two days before reaching Spring Hope, they’ll learn that Bard has arrived in town. Dundunduuuuu!!!
