Also at least in the US, you do need to be able to do the ESSENTIAL job functions with or without accommodations. You are not entitled to get a job that is impossible for you to perform (ex. Can't make phone calls bc anxiety but you want to work for a call center as someone who answers phones) however if you become disabled and can no longer perform the essential job functions many places are required to offer to transfer you to a job within the company/department you can do.
If you need help, The Job Assistance Network is amazing and their website has a ton of free resources for disclosing disability and what kind of accommodations are considered reasonable. You can even put in your specific disability and it will give you a list of common accommodations people with that disability find helpful.
They also have helplines and an email address so you can ask more specific questions.
Employers: "Nobody wants to work anymore these days!"
Disabled people: "We are qualified and we are willing to work. We just require some workplace accommodations."
Employers: "Where are all the 'normal' people who want to work?"
#disability#working while disabled#that was like the one thing i actually learned from the seminar#also reasonable accomodations can vary depending on the size of the employer#if you ask for something that is waaay too expensive for a small family run shop it probably won't be considered reasonable#but for a huge corporation who can afford it then you have a better chance of getting it#these are the kind of loopholes employers get unfortunately

I learned a kind of funny thing and I need to tell you bc it's important, cmere. Lean in so the others can't hear okay?
Ok so like
I know that the reason we are the way we are is because at some point we took up some space - as people do - and someone turned to us and went "whoa, excuse you! What do you think you're doing" or something, right? And they were, like, surprised and offended that we took up space and told us to stay real small and subservient? And we were pretty young, you and me, and we didn't really grok Peopling yet and so we assumed that everyone else was going to have that expectation too?
Okay I just learned: that isn't true at all, that person was just an asshole.
Babe. BABE. This is big.
Ok do you realize ??? that most people when they're around someone - anyone, this is important, it's an unconscious reflex and happens rather automatically - and that person is like "I have an opinion and desires and also some needs and I am going to express them openly" Did you realize, because I didn't, that most people completely intuitively go "oh! There's another person here! Lemme just scootch over so they fit better :)" PEOPLE MAKE ROOM FOR YOU.
People don't ignore us, when we're silently having wants and needs and waiting our turn to be noticed, they just have similar very loud brains and have no idea because beung corporeal is Distracting™️. Not only do people just need a reminder that you're there, they're totally happy to accomodate. In a distinctly "ope! My bad, lemme just- here-" sort of way.
My spouse has a loud brain and drowns it out with Mario Kart. I've spent most of my life quietly entertaining myself in all of these instances, because at some point someone told me I was supposed to "go play" and nobody wanted to play with me so I entertained myself right? Okay. Well I recently had a sea change and decided I was gonna pop my headphones in and watch TV on my tablet when he was doing his Mario Karting. Because the boy will easily go for four hours and I just spontaneously realized that it would actually be ridiculous if he got butthurt at me for putting some quiet tv on for myself instead of watching a grown man play the same video game for hours.
You know what happened? Not only did nobody's feelings get hurt, but I have never made it more than twenty minutes into a show before he ends a match and switches the console off. And I have never asked him to do so. When I'm over there doing my own thing with my own TV show like a person instead of just scrolling on my phone trying real hard not to exist, somewhere in his unconscious he goes "there's a whole other human being on the other end of the sofa from me. I want to turn this off and engage with that person!"
Okay do you understand what I am telling you??
When you behave like a human person and treat yourself like a human person, other people also instinctively treat you like a human person and they're happy to be reminded that they get to engage with you. The person in our past that reacted differently and got mad at us for being a person, plainly and simply: they were just being an asshole to us.
The people we love want to engage with us. Almost all of them!!! And not only that?? Most other human beings feel the same way.
Huge. Big huge.
Don't take my word for it baby cakes okay, take a sec and muster up the courage (it'll be scary the first time, but the thinking about it is always scarier than doing it I swear) and then get back out there and practice being your very own human person occupying human people space, around someone who loves you, and just... watch what happens. The first time someone warmly, graciously, voluntarily accommodates you is the greatest feeling a corporeal being can experience, and you deserve it too.

the scent wafts in, her name making him beg on his knees chap 1.2
pairing: dabi / todoroki touya x fem!oc / reader (MODERN AU)
summary: He mentions her name after 6 months in therapy, absentmindedly narrating vivid memories of her. She was the only good thing during his darkest times.
(In which Touya returns home after rebelling against his family for 7 years. And no, it wasn't about forgiveness. He wanted to fix himself because of a certain someone.)
themes: nsfw, domestic abuse, violence, alcoholism, cigarette smoking, toxic relationships, mental health, co-dependency and other related themes (YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED)
notes: for this one, pls keep in mind that touya didn't have much scars on his face; mostly are on his body to accomodate the plot; charas might be ooc since this is modern au
It was after 4 days that he finally revealed about the Todoroki family, the scandalous story of Enji Todoroki, and the abuse they have endured in his hands based on what he had experienced until 19. To be honest, everything wasn't really how they started. Touya grew up seeing Enji so proud of him, prancing him around as his firstborn, the one who will continue his dream of being the number one corporation in Japan with the best workforce and highest earning. Touya was actually more excited to learn more about business at a young age, studying how money worked through stock exchange games and trying to beat his father through crossword puzzles.
Then the next year, Fuyumi was born, and they were almost the same age, separated by months. One could even say she became his twin, and they shared the same room, the same bed, the same food, the same unisex clothes, the same words—just not the appearance and gender. When it was just the two of them, they somewhat understood each other even if Fuyumi sometimes find him annoying because of his silly pranks.
As he tells this to his therapist, he realizes a shocking truth.
Their family was okay back then. There were a lot of good times, and he had a hunch Fuyumi was the one who remembered most of them when it was supposed to be him, the oldest of the bunch. That's why it was a lot easy for her to forgive him. That's why she hoped so much for him to come back.
His favorite memory was of Fuyumi asking him to create a large drawing of the four of them because she wanted to give something to them. She was holding the same blue flowers their mother liked, and after everything was done, the two siblings met their parents at the living area where they were having tea. Enji ruffled Fuyumi's hair and told her to wash her hands after, noticing the dirt around her hands and in her fingernails. Meanwhile, Rei giggled melodiously, her laughter making Touya embarrassed as she patted his head. They were all happy. Everyone was happy.
When did everything go wrong?
"I think it was when... when Father found me pushing myself so hard because I was so devastated at my achievements that he had enough of me," Touya continued. "Whenever things won't go my way, I tend to neglect my body's capabilities. I stay up all night. I don't eat until I get the equation right. There were times when at a young age, I ripped my hair so bad due to stress. They manifested so bad that I resorted to violence."
A child who throws a violent tantrum. Torn apart posters of comic characters. Ruined picture frames and shattered glasses. Fearful eyes halting in time and unable to stop him from overworking himself. Scattered test papers with scores of 99, 98, 97, and 96 flooded all over like a burning reminder.
"I should've listened to Mother and Fuyumi-chan when they told me to have fun instead."
------
After two weeks, the therapist had the guts to ask him about Natsuo and Shouto. He used to evade questions about his two brothers, usually opting for silence or quickly dismissing the man with answers like, "I don't want to talk about them," or "It's not good." The therapist thought maybe Touya would never be able to discuss things about them, but he knew he had to bring them to the table. After all, the eldest Todoroki had mentioned before that seeing them born had been the small flicker of fire that burned their family down.
"Father thinks me and Fuyumi-chan were failures; it doesn't mean Natsu-kun wasn't either," Touya started, remembering the infant Natsuo and his cries ringing around the Todoroki household. Of course, disappointment was etched again in Enji's face, realizing that Natsuo did not live up to his expectations.
Touya could hear his familiar sigh in head, the way he was stoic but Natsuo was trying his hardest to please him. It broke Touya's heart, the way he could only watch his two siblings casted aside like him, thrown away like a garbage because their potential were wasted. In Enji's eyes, they weren't his children; they were experiments with his wife.
"His masterpiece was my younger brother, Shouto," he concluded.
"Do you hate Shouto?" the therapist asked.
Touya could only shrug, not clearly having a definition of what he felt towards his youngest brother. True, he felt so many things about his brother. He was the bane of his existence, after all. He despised him the day he was born, and yet he felt guilty the moment baby Shouto wrapped his stubby hand around his long finger, cooing at the warmth as he opened his heterochromatic eyes and gazed at him cutely. That day, Touya instantly felt a responsibility as his oldest brother, but at the same time, there was bitterness. He knew the youngest would be Enji's favorite; he just knew it, with the way he watched him all this time while he thinks he's not aware.
It will never be Shouto's fault that they weren't the favorites; but blaming him was so easy Touya could get away with it.
Shouto was unyielding, though; confused as to why Touya didn't like him but still trying his bestest to get along with him. He would trail behind him, meekly asking him to play with him, to ask their father if he could play with them for a bit because he wanted to be like the other kids and play. "You should be grateful he's spending time with you," Touya snarked at him, not speaking the next words. Because he wouldn't do that with us; with me. Of course, Shouto was so pure-hearted he just replied him with, "But being with Touya-nii and the others is a lot better. You all get to play other than study."
But studying and being the best was the only thing that kept Touya driving; it would be his downfall, though. Enji found out what he did to himself, knew from his teachers about his wellbeing. Touya goes to school with deep eyebags. Touya gets sulky about his grades. He snaps at the other kids at school. He almost got into a fight with another classmate for trying to cheer him up with his grades. And the next thing, Touya will be dragged to the hallway and Enji would not hesitate to slap sense in his face, disappointment and anger in his face as he beat Touya up for bringing shame to the family, for acting all so childish over some silly grades.
This was his usual routine. His parents would fight. His siblings will help him up to his feet. Fuyumi-chan will take the first aid kit and tend to his bruises. Natsuo-kun will try to shield Shouto away from the scene even though the youngest was already crying his eyes out, not wanting to see him hurt so bad. Don't cry for me, Shouto. Don't be that way with me. I hate you. I hate you the most. Please, don't be like that.
Afterwards, he would play the good son card, would keep his bursting feelings in check, watch over everything he would say and play right in Enji's palm. He needed his approval again, even if the attention was all showered on Shouto. It was damn frustrating, suffocating him the more he watched Shouto endure the beatings as he treated the three of them like nothing. At that moment, Touya wanted nothing to do with Shouto. If he did, he might unleash all these intrusive thoughts.
Fate was a trickster, and Touya would always find Shouto pleading for help, especially to him of all people. "Touya-nii, save me! Please!" It kept repeating like a broken record, haunting him in his dreams. The wet streaks. The runny nose. His tight fisting on his shirt. The way he would hiss his name. The eyes that cried so many times. Touya will never give in; a lie he told so many times.
Touya did give in, and without much thought. Shouto brought back those feelings he wanted; how it felt so happy that someone needed so much from him. He liked it. He felt appreciated. He felt blessed. He felt so free Shouto had no idea how much Touya wanted this for so long. That's why Touya tutored Shouto in secret, teaching him a thing or two about business, about stock exchange, about the Todoroki family, about the Endeavor Corp.—heck, he even laid down the basics of algebra and science on him, ensuring Shouto would be able to comprehend everything at the age of 5 and 6. It wasn't the same as when Enji acknowledged him, but for Touya, this was enough.
Enji knew about it, of course, and he didn't mind... at first. After all, he thought Touya was just helping his brother learn, keeping his mouth shut as he let them be. This aggravated Touya, pushing him slightly to the edge.
"The least he could do was acknowledge me," Touya stated bitterly to his therapist, remembering how Enji praised Shouto's performance instead of telling him how good of an older brother he was.
"So you used Shouto's kindness, is that it?" the therapist clarified.
Touya nodded. "But sometimes, I pity him. I felt those things only an older brother would feel."
There was a palpable tension as Touya gripped his knees to even out his breathing. The memories were getting more vivid than ever he swore it happened yesterday? Or the other day? But he was a lot younger back then. He was 14 when it happened, and he felt his bruises and scars getting more painful, his skin shivering from a certain coldness. Maybe it was Enji's eyes on him. The same eye color he and Shouto shared. He didn't know. He didn't care.
"Sekoto Peak," he mumbled in a trance, flashes of memories where Shouto held his hand and gazed at the view below him.
"Touya-nii, this is where you go often? It's so cool here!"
"Sometimes, I sleep here under the stars."
"R-Really? Do you bring Fuyumi-nee and Natsu-nii here?"
"I haven't."
"Let's go here, the four of us."
"..."
"Please?"
"I'll see what I can do."
"I couldn't bring them all," Touya admitted, gripping his head to force himself to remember. The therapist recorded his responses through his notes as he muttered everything in a fast pace. "I tried to make a plan. I brought Shouto there a few times without anyone knowing. I asked Natsuo and Fuyumi for help. Before we could all go, Father found out. I couldn't speak. I couldn't fight. I was hit by the bokken. They were all crying. Mother tried to protect me but Father slapped her. I could feel his kick and punch in my gut."
"... did he—"
"No. NO. HE WASN'T DONE!" Touya gulped nervously, imagining the scars on his body burning. "They were hot on my skin. It burned my flesh. I couldn't move. I cried and cried and cried. I begged for him to stop. I want him to stop. The hot iron. Everything. I want the world to stop. I couldn't become the son he wanted. I couldn't be Shouto's big brother. I couldn't give them everything."
And when he ended the story, that was when Touya finally cried, sobbing as fuck. He couldn't care about the world or the pitiful gazes. The boy cried so much from bearing all the sins he didn't do.
------
Touya spent a few months in isolation, his thoughts circling around his childhood and all the painful memories. When he was alone, he would write them all down, narrating that one moment in his and Natsuo's shared bedroom where Shouto secretly snuck in and apologized over and over. He kept blaming himself for Touya's pain. Everything was his fault that Touya was hurt so bad, and Touya wanted to agree. It was true, though. He hurt when he was born. He hurt when he got all the glory. He hurt when he became Enji's pride.
He just went silent about it.
Why did he?
It was never Shouto's fault.
"Shouto," he whispered, his hand reaching out to ruffle his hair despite the searing pain in his arms. There was a weak smile gracing his lips, bruised and battered yet patched up clumsily by a crying Fuyumi. "As I thought, I couldn't be your good older brother. Not anymore."
(Touya never knew but after a few years following his rebellion, Shouto went to Sekoto Peak and stared at the same view Touya admired so much, slept under the stars when everything became too much, and wished the four of them could be there together.)
ps. I removed the last part and placed it on the next chap in case y'all confused bcos the post is too long to read

If I had to do a city-building game in the style of SimCity, the main mechanic would not be zoning but land ownership. To expand your city, you need to buy or adquire land from the landowners or the state around you (you will always start with a city, big or small, because making a city out of nowhere is nonsense).
That "city land" you administrate isn't yours, either, it's sold to your citizens, businesses, institutions, and there you can do some zoning. But unlike other city building games, they also get to decide what to do. Sure you make the roads and the institutions, but what if people decide to build a home there (a badly named "slum"), or local business, or industries, or such? People shouldn't just sit down and let you demolish their homes to build a highway, or have you change laws with a tick, or just sitting there without wanting better schools or hospitals. Your role should be to accomodate the needs of all the people so they all have a good home, good services, good jobs, and overall guaranteeing a good life for your citizens, instead of you know, managing fucking traffic...
Also, you would also need to deal with both local politics and state entities. It's bullshit that in most city building games, you treat a city as a business, I have no idea how it works in the US but a city going "bankrupt" here or anywhere else makes no sense to me. You should get money, resources, etc. from the country/province you belong to, and probably also dictates and such (like why aren't you complying with education or pollution guidelines, for example). In fact, it would be a constant negotiation (not tension, negotitation) between you a mayor and the other entities in the country you live in, not just you being a Walt Disney corporate god-king and doing whatever you want.
Of course, the ideal would be building up a society where all land is held in common, and there are indeed some examples on how that can be done...

f1au arlecchino in a need... f1au hoyoverse women as a whole honestly
oh, anonnie… i fear you have enabled me 👀👀👀 i will now proceed to spill my guts about f1au (with a little bit of modern au thrown in there to accomodate other characters) in a way nobody asked for 😌😌😌 (au details/lore utc)
>> SCUDERIA FATUI
An infamous yet historic team from Snezhnaya, known for its talented drivers and cutthroat strategies both and off on the track. Sponsored wholly by Zapolyarny Corporation and lead by Team Principal Pierro, Scuderia Fatui has produced many star drivers, most notably Arlecchino and Tartaglia. Arlecchino was trained within Fatui’s own F1 academy, the House of the Hearth. Tartaglia, on the other hand, is the youngest driver to ever debut in Teyvat F1. In spite of their success on the track, Fatui’s title sponsor Zapolyarny is known for some underhanded business practices, which many speculate and allege resulted in the resignation of Diluc Ragnvindr from Favonius Racing.
Other roles:
Chief Engineer Sandrone
Zapolyarny Founder the Tsaritsa
Zapolyarny CEO Pulcinella
Zapolyarny CFO Pantalone
Zapolyarny CTO Dottore
Zapolyarny CMO Rosalyne-Kruzchka Lohefalter
House of the Hearth Director Crucabena
Team strategist and former driver Capitano
Idol Columbina signed under Zapolyarny Records
>> Marechaussee Racing
A team from Fontaine known for its technological and engineering innovations. Title sponsored by Meropide Heavy Industries, Marechaussee is also backed by other brands and companies including the Spina di Rosula and Chioriya Boutique. Headed by Team Principal Neuvillette, Marechaussee Racing’s most successful drivers include Wriothesley, Navia and Clorinde.
Other roles:
Fashion designer Chiori
Steambird journalist Charlotte
>> Seven Stars Formula 1 Racing Team
A popular team from Liyue, especially known for its unique and unconventional strategies that nonetheless lead their drivers to victory. Like Scuderia Fatui, Seven Stars is backed entirely by a single corporation, the Qixing Corporation. Its team principal is also the CEO of Qixing Corp., Ningguang. Seven Stars is known for producing unique but fan favourite drivers with long careers, as seen with Beidou, Shenhe, Yelan and Xiao.
Other roles:
Qixing secretary Ganyu
Qixing CTO Keqing
Team strategist Zhongli
>> INAZUMA Racing
A very well-known and storied team with a long history in F1. INAZUMA Racing used to be the only team from Inazuma, however following an internal dispute, several members of INAZUMA Racing split off to form Watatsumi Formula 1 Racing Team. INAZUMA Racing is sponsored by the Kujou Corporation and Hiiragi & Co, as well as Yae Publishing House. Currently, the top positions within INAZUMA Racing are held by the Raiden clan; Raiden Makoto as Team Principal, Raiden Ei as Chief Engineer, and Raiden Shogun as the team’s premier first driver. The position of second driver is filled by Kujou Sara from the Kujou family, who also has a longstanding affiliation with the sport.
Other roles:
Yae Publishing House CEO and Chairwoman, Yae Miko
>> Watatsumi Formula 1 Racing Team
The youngest racing team on the roster, Watatsumi Formula 1 Racing is the underdog of Teyvat Formula 1. Despite having a tumultuous birth, Watatsumi, under the sharp guidance of team principal Sangonomiya Kokomi, has secured high-profile sponsors such as Kamisato Corp (KCorp). Drivers signed with Watatsumi include Arataki Itto, Kuki Shinobu, and Kaedehara Kazuha, who is well-known to be a former driver for Liyue’s Seven Stars Formula 1 Team.
Other roles:
Chief Engineer Yoimiya
Idol Kamisato Ayaka, signed under Kamisato ENT
CEO and Chairman of KCorp, Kamisato Ayato
>> Favonius Racing
A historic team hailing from Mondstadt, Favonius Racing has recently hit a rough patch. After the sudden resignation of one of its star drivers, Diluc Ragnvindr, Favonius Racing has been unable to secure Championship titles for a few years now. However, under the leadership of new Team Principal and former driver Jean Gunnhildr, as well as the technological advancements made by genius Chief Engineer Albedo, things may be looking up for Favonius Racing. Favonius Racing’s title sponsor is Dawn Winery. Its current lineup of drivers is the fan-favourite Kaeya Alberich, the mysterious Rosaria, and the up-and-coming driver Eula Lawrence.
Other roles:
Team strategist Lisa Minci
Assistant engineer and fuel scientist Sucrose
Idol Barbara signed under Barbatos Entertainment
>> Akademiya Formula 1 Racing Team
Another team known for its pioneering in F1 engineering, Akademiya Racing hails from Sumeru. Led by former driver turned team principal Al-Haitham and under the scrutinizing eye of Chief Engineer Kaveh, Akademiya Racing’s already impeccable history of machinery is only projected to get better. Alongside its excellent cars, Akademiya Racing is also known for producing the most resilient of drivers, which include Dehya, Candace and Cyno, as well as former INAZUMA Racing driver, Raiden Kunikuzushi.
Other roles:
Medical officer Tighnari
Idol Nilou

32. markets - for the soft prompts 💖
Hello! Thank you for being my first ever prompt in this fandom, ahah! Let's set this somewhere after the end of the first season...
The market was quiet when they finally reached it; subdued, in the way of half-asleep things, bright orange and deep blue, already wrapped up in the shadows of the twilight. Few were the people still perusing the stalls, and many a seller had already begun to pack up. It was in times like this, at the threshold between day and night, that the Waking most resembled the Dreaming -its contours were gentled, its sharpness held at bay by the last rays of the setting sun, its roaring crowds reduced to a handful of stragglers, hurrying home for dinner.
Dream watched the dwindling human activity for a few moments as Hob Gadling led him around the little hidden square, seemingly searching for something. Their shoulders brushed, just barely, with every odd step, and each touch (likely unvoluntary on Hob's part) pressed a breath of warmth on Dream's perpetually cold corporeal manifestation. It was... not unwelcome.
"Have I kept you from your chores?" Dream questioned, turning just so to try and meet Hob's eyes, fixed as they were on the closing stalls. "Perhaps you would have preferred coming here earlier."
Earlier, Dream had manifested into Hob's pleasantly cluttered living room, because he had found himself wanting for company and with no pressing duties to attend to; and his friend had gotten over the fright surprisingly quickly, and, accomodating as ever, had put on the kettle for tea, and offered him sweet biscuits and idle chatter and all of his space, his time, his things.
It occurred to Dream now that it was not considered polite in human society to show up unannounced to someone else's place. "I will endeavour to send word beforehand, the next time I visit."
Hob gave him an absent-minded hum and shook his head. "It's fine, dove, I didn't mind, feel free to pop in whenever," he said, and circled Dream's arm around his own so they could be of one pace, hurrying to the other end of the emptied out space. His hair, awash in the blueish light of the growing evening, looked especially soft, and Dream had to blink himself out fixing on the heavy strands, so rich and inviting. "Besides, I know you're not very fond of crowds, so..."
It was unnerving, to be so effortlessly known. But then, when it came to this particular man, to be known was to be cared for. Strange and new, Hob's stubborn crusade to make a person out of him, the way he was constantly asking after Dream's opinions, after his needs, working off the unprecedented assumption that one such as an Endless even had needs... The tension that had snapped his spine straight melted at the first hint of a smile from Hob, and as Dream allowed himself the luxory of slouching just so (just so their bodies slid a little bit closer) he contemplated the wealth of affection given freely and without reserve, and wondered.
They strolled through the quiet marketplace, all the way to the very last stand, which was, in truth, not a stand at all, but an upturned crate, a parasol and a single young woman sitting on a folding chair, who waved at Hob rather cheerfully. "Professor! I wasn't sure you'd make it in time!"
"Told you I would, my dear," Hob replied with an easy grin. Without relinquishing his hold on Dream, he leaned in to inspect the little basket on the crate. "This is Morpheus, a very old friend. Morpheus, meet Nira, one of my first graduates."
They exchanged a polite nod.
Hob huffed, giving Dream's arm a gentle squeeze. "So... Are there any left?" he asked, and then he pulled Dream in, until he was forced to bend over. "Come on, have a look."
Inside the basket were two kittens, fluffed up and fuzzy, curled one around the other as they slept swaddled in an old blanket. One bright orange, the other dappled black, they could not be older than a couple of months; as he did all dreaming beings, he knew them, that they were warm and sleepy but had been frightened earlier. That they missed their mother, and the little sisters that had been adopted earlier in the afternoon.
"My landlord is evicting them," said Nira, perhaps picking up on his consternation. "Old man was fine with one cat, not five."
Hob smiled at Dream and tapped his free hand on the basket, carefully, so the kittens didn't even stir. "I was thinking of getting a cat," he explained. "Do you want to pick one?"
Dream pursed his lips; he glanced at the two siblings, then back at his friend, his open expression, his arm that was still wrapped around Dream's own. "They would be happier together," he said, because it was true, and because surely, surely, Hob would refuse him.
Hob's smile widened, sweet in the way it brought out the lines at the corners of his eyes, and he shrugged. "Alright then, what's one more?" he mused, and turned back toward his former student. "We'll take them both. And the basket, I suppose."

JJ knows his strengths and how to highlight them so even if he isn't that musically gifted he can still keep up! His upbringing didn't allow him to be anything but a little diva and I love that for him but I wonder how his personality fits into the group.
But your little character breakdown/plot posts are always good!
GIO.
I've been treating this ask like a very fancy bottle of wine, really waiting for the perfect moment to answer it in the most interesting way possible, and now that LOOPiN is FINALLY (!!!) free from New Wave Music and they officially have a new home, I believe a post dissecting how they used to work under Seo CEO's awful control is a must. And here I have the perfect little moment to ramble about it! Which I love!
So, the short answer to your questions is: J.J fits in very badly on a personal level, and most of the other guys consider him unmanageable to say the least, but! LOOPiN as a whole has been so desensitized to Jiahang's (annoying!) personality because, as long as they were under New Wave, they all knew that he was an untouchable constant; both because of his father's grip on the company stock, and because in mid 2021 J.J made the very strategic decision to take active part on backing LOOPiN financially, and he did so by paying for their dorm room accomodations and making that his sole responsability - which is why in some pieces set on their 'flop era' you can notice that their home is just waaaaay too fucking nice.
But yeah, with anyone who's not Minwoo (from late 2020 up until literally a week before he publicly retired from making music), Haegon (often enough) or Hanjae, Jiahang has had very big professional and personal feuds that still linger. It gets ugly sometimes guys, it really does.
Now! To the longer answer!
NEW WAVE MUSIC's LOOPiN & ITS HIDDEN HIERARCHY:
[❗] TWs: corporate abuse, medical neglect.
If in universe iNSYNCs or just people aware of them were to be consulted, they would say that the chain of command and order of company favoritism while LOOPiN were under New Wave Music (2017 - 2023) ended up as:
01. Minwoo; 02. Seungsoo; 03. Haruki; 04. O.z; 05. J.J; 06. Hanjae; 07. Gyujin; 08. Dylan; 09. Taesong; 10. Haegon.
*Former member Lee Beomseok is not included, but just so you know, he wouldn't crack the Top5.
Which, by looking at the graphic you can see it's pretty off! Let's dissect it!
(NOTE: The two white boxes around the Top4 symbolize leadership roles, and they obviously entail the Produce Line, but less obviously, in a ground right above it, stands Minwoo and J.J in a duo that we can informally call as 'LOOPiN's Crisis Management'.)
At the very top of the food chain, we have J.J: As mentioned above, and also said in posts in the past here and there, Jiahang's spot in LOOPiN was 100% bought by his father, but his privilege goes way beyond just sharing surnames with a major sponsor: J.J has an entire personal team of lawyers, a private stylist and his own manager/financial consultant, Han Qiong (39), which puts him miles ahead of everyone else who depended on New Wave's shady and unprepared staff team. Jiahang's influence is also very present in everything on LOOPiN's two last years under New Wave (which came as consequence of him being Minwoo's "apprentice"), but it's all very subtle, as he always hid behind Minwoo to not spoil his incompetent brat persona to CEO Seo Chanhyuk - many marketing stunts, a good parts of their visual identity and even some promoted songs were handpicked by him but signed off as Minwoo's decisions, and even the members don't know that. As of now, speaking of 2023-0T9-Rare-Rhythm-LOOPiN, only Taesong and Haruki are aware of their past almost co-leadership deal and know how frail J.J actually is with this start over on the career department. He has pretty much no idea how and what he should do next now that he doesn't have a clear advantage! A giant really fell!
Minwoo: Even before he took over the official leader position from Taesong in 2021, everyone working with LOOPiN behind the scenes knew Minwoo was the guy in charge: not only was he the frontman of the Produce Line, but not a single decision even outside the group's sound was made without consulting him, mostly because people felt like they should - his... passionate involvement, let's say, about every aspect of the group was very clear. He also kept riding the wave of his Boy Of The Week days as "the golden trainee", and the respect he build in the industry after butting heads with Chanhyuk and his brigade of shareholders to make LOOPiN creative independent, even though it did give everyone consequences - Seo CEO came to HATE his guts right after they debuted, and was a bitch about them just because Minwoo was always just as much of a bitch back. Him making Taesong the leader during their group debut despite Minwoo's obvious crave for that title was just as much of a move made to try to control them as it was petty, childish shit.
O.z: Wu Zhiming is not someone you can restrain, and New Wave Music came to learn that a beat too late; they also didn't know how to fully support him as a music producer, which O.z took no time to notice and start quietly networking his way into opportunities. Now, his music career outside of LOOPiN is the most stable - he's been the major producer and collaborator with Nico, an independent (and faceless!) singer that in universe has internet fame reaching the likes of Pinkpantheress, and he's definely the first member to reach stable international fame, even if it's a tad controversial. And that's something he did despite New Wave Music, and Zhiming has talked about it publicly with no fear, so everyone knows he's truly independent! You go, O.z!
Seungsoo: Seungsoo always has a hard time seeing the bigger picture, and with his career it was no different: he always assumed the Produce Line was an equal triad and even that he was Minwoo's second hand man (which, LMAO. NO!), and he constantly failed to see everyone always respected him the less. But he was and is a group producer, he did have a voice and some control of LOOPiN as a brand, and that automatically puts him above a lot of the members. Seungsoo is also very popular with the public, known as a sweet talker and charming guy, and his music is very sought after for girl groups and female soloists. He was not doing the worst.
Gyujin: Gyujin, the newest loop dude of them all, stands right in the middle. He joined LOOPiN at a crazy time, but he is flexible by nature and he worked himself into the public's good graces very quickly, all on his own; it barely took him 7 months to be iNSYNC's new darling dearest, which did give some brownie points with Seo CEO at the time. Gyujin is also very familiar with the entertainment industry, which barely changed in the years he spend retired from child acting, so he knew from the get go what to watch out for. His contract signing took 3 weeks because he kept going for legal tweaks, something that immediately set off warning sirens inside Seo CEO's head, but at that point, Gyujin was all he had to try to set off the fire of Beomseok's departure - and many other accusations! If he had more time inside the company, Gyujin could definely pull a J.J and find something to use to his advantage against Chanhyuk, because if there's one thing he'll always do, is find an angle.
Hanjae: As soon as Sangwon got out of the picture as LOOPiN's manager in early 2022, Hanjae found himself in a very interesting position, that being his elevation from someone that was literally hidden for two years inside their own group to a hotshot debutee actor - fully backed by Chanhyuk, who was so fucking tired of LOOPiN having collective fame at this point. As we know, Hanjae's crush on Haruki was old and a well known fact inside New Wave, and it ended up causing his professional downfall; Sangwon mismanaged him on porpouse in LOOPiN's early years to not only punish him for his feelings, but also just to torment Haruki. Recently, Seo CEO has committed the big mistake of trying to convince Hanjae to sell his exclusive contract to an acting agency on New Wave's last days, and despite Hanjae double crossing him and immediately telling everyone about the company's hidden fate back in January so they could prepare for it, Chanhyuk still planted a lot of doubt on Hanjae's mind about his Idol future, and that will be at play very soon, thanks to 'Kick It' winning the comeback poll! So stay tunned!;
Taesong: As said on the Minwoo section, Taesong's role as LOOPiN's leader was given to him because Seo CEO needed someone in charge to be under his thumb, and Taesong filled that role okay enough for as long as he could - Minwoo's very harsh criticism of his every move plus everyone's lack of respect of the sentimental way he used to run things eventually got to him mentally. He had many hiatuses in his career, and with each new one came more of a lack of interest from New Wave Music in him as a way of income. If it wasn't for his own volution and need to get better, Taesong wouldn't be the vocal powerhouse he is now - he payed for his own vocal coaches, all non affiliate with the company! By the time he returned from his most serious and longest hiatus in early 2021, making the (not so willing) decision to give out the leader position to Minwoo, all without notifying Seo CEO first, made him public enemy number #2, and it definitely showed on his sudden erasure of schedules.
Haegon: From pretty much day one, Haegon was not taken seriously by anyone inside New Wave Music as an Idol or person, specially in Seo Chanhyuk's eyes: his very unsettling attachment to former member Beomseok paired with his short temper painted him as a kid unwilling to grow up, and when Beomseok left and Haegon put up a whole dissapearing stunt for a week (he had to be fake announced to be put on hiatus!), any slight interest or patience Seo Chanhyuk had for him died. Dare I say, Seo CEO saw Haegon as his biggest signing mistakes, when you take into consideration that "he wasn't even good enough to make the main vocalist stay" - his own words! So Haegon was not encouraged to train beyond his habilities or given any sort of solo schedules. Haegon himself felt the company's disbelief in him in his bones, too, and found it hard to try.
Haruki: Despite being made the public face of LOOPiN from 2021 and onwards, and eventually starting as a model with a lot of company apparent support (big highlight on apparent), Haruki was not the target of favoritism in the slightest; it was the very opposite. None of the investment made by New Wave towards Haruki was genuine, made to be long term or took what he wanted to do as an artist into consideration. It was just Seo CEO buying his silence about his horrible involvement with Sangwon without explicitly saying to Haruki that he was buying his silence. Haruki also never had freedom of movement from the moment he became a Week Boy, and even small decisions he had the impression of being made without Sangwon's involvement over the years always ended up with his involvement despite his demands for the contrary, because Seo CEO did not care or respect him, ever. (Which is in my humble opinion one of his worst crimes: knowing and doing nothing for a share price. Fuck that man, honestly, fuck him.)
And in the lowest of lows, Dylan: In the old blog I had a piece that was fully narrated by Chihoon, and in it we caught a glimpse of the situation with his private contract under New Wave Music and by extension, Blockberry Creative; how his trainee dept was thrice everyone's size because he lost a private defamation lawsuit against both companies back when he was on Boy Of The Week, plus one claiming neglect from Seo CEO directly. Dylan's contract as a whole was barely legal and made by a lawyer that was at the time Seo CEO's wife-to-be (), and the disparity definely showed as LOOPiN went on. Mind you: his first ever solo project (given how he did not promote his debut track 'Monster' or 'Teenager' with LOOPiN Look(a)Like due to an hospitalization), was his rebellion album released in 2022, and that obviously had no company support. Dylan also was on the down low obligated to see a 'company psychiatrist', something that is exclusive to him and was as shady as it fucking sounds - a lot of his growing paranoia as his career goes on it's not only caused by the things he becomes a witness to, but also the bad intentioned changes made in his medication.

The main problem is that, under our current system, money is required to live. You need to do something that makes money, in order to spend that money on food, water, housing, medicine, and transportation, because without spending that money you do not have access to those things. As such, you have to do work, work that someone else will pay you to do. With many jobs - farm hand, cook, factory worker, logger, miner - it's easy enough to look at past output in that field to determine how much that labor is worth. A line cook produces about a thousand dollars worth of food per day, perhaps. Subtract out the cost of ingredients, and you have an easy metric for the value of that line cook's worth to their employer.
This basic math falls down in creative fields, such as novel writing, animation, film, or music. It is INCREDIBLY difficult to determine the value of a creative work until after it is done, and even then it is largely the reaction to that work which determines its value. But, under our economic system, the necessities of food, water, housing, medicine, and transportation all require expending money to access. As such, those who spend their time creating need monetary compensation, or else they will be unable to continue creating.
The solution that we have landed on, therefore, is for people to be reimbursed after the fact. Shows are sold to networks, with the profits of those sales going to pay those who worked on the show. Music is sold to record labels, with song sales reimbursing the artists. Films are sold to movie theaters, with ticket proceeds reimbursing the creators of the works. And of course, novels are sold to publishing houses, and the sales of those books reimburse the novelist.
However, with this after-the-fact payment, this creates a problem. Someone could come along, take that novel, copy it down word for word, and publish it themselves, for a fraction of the time investment of the original novelist. A novel that took months if not years to write, full of painstaking research and careful methodical worldbuilding, could be copied wholesale in a matter of weeks or days from a physical copy, to as little as seconds with a digital one. And then, due to having to compensate far less effort to be profitable, the copier could sell their duplicate for far less money and still be economically successful.
This is the problem copyright law seeks to solve. It attempts to lay out in unambiguous terms who has the right to copy creative works, hence the name, and lay out monetary, carceral, and/or corporal punishments for doing so without that right. Unfortunately, the clear deliniations it attempts to draw run up against an immediate problem: derivative works. If you write a story, and I rewrite it to include zombies, altering the worldbuilding and story beats to accomodate this change, I have undeniably done work. I have unambiguously created something new. But I could only do so by starting from a previous work and deriving a new one.
The issue, therefore, is in where the boundary lies. Sure, obviously adding in a single typo to change the work does not count as creating something truly new, but where does the line fall between "I have copied The Hound of the Baskervilles verbatim, except I added, changed, or removed a single letter and No More" and "I wrote an entirely original story except Sherlock Holmes shows up for exactly one sentence"? There is no objective point to place that line which distinguishes the derivative work from the copy.
A solution presents itself, however, in a simple inversion: pay the creatives before the work is done. If payment is rendered before the work is finished, and all throughout the creation, then it does not matter nearly as much if someone were to copy the work and spread it elsewhere - it is simply the original's ideas and creativity, spread into new audiences. Sure, there are also those who would do so in an attempt to obtain fame and clout by pretending they created the work, but they would do so anyway - removing the profit motive would undeniably reduce the incidents of people doing so for profit, thus reducing it overall.
This, however, raises further complications. The patrons of these artists, responsible for the livelihoods of these creatives, would (quite naturally) seek to influence their work, to push the ideals of the patron, or to use the work of the creatives as propaganda to further their own image. See, for example, the outsized influence the USA's military has on films produced in Hollywood - by providing funding and military vehicles to use in their productions, the productions thus become dependent on this military backing, and thus incentivized to portray the military in a positive light, lest this backing be removed.
The obvious solution - have the payment for these creatives come from some neutral source - is an unfortunately doomed endeavor. It is the political landscape around such a body that determines what counts as a "neutral" political statement, which will inevitably result in a conservative, status-quo-preserving inclination to any and all creatives dependent on this funding. Furthermore, such a body would be able to decide who counts as a creative, thus stifling the growth and proliferation of art forms that run counter to their goals. However, there is another, more balanced option.
If the funding is not given to creatives specifically, but instead to everyone - a universal income, divided out to all, enough to live on regardless of location - then this removes the ability of a political body to cut funding to an artist they dislike, as there is no criteria under which the funding could be removed. Furthermore, such a universal income would allow those trapped in unfavorable jobs the freedom to leave them - if this universal basic income is enough to live off of by itself, then there is no longer the threat of poverty keeping people at displeasurable, upsetting, or downright dangerous jobs. This would also force jobs to become more appealing across the board - when the option is between working for more cash, and not working but having enough to live reasonably comfortably, then unpleasant and underpaying jobs become far less appealing as they are no longer being compared against poverty and starvation.
Anyway, the solution to the problem of copyright law is communism thank you for coming to my ted talk.

Time to sound like a cranky old person but,
I am begging gen Z to understand that you live in reality. Begging.
I work management in a job that attracts a lot of teens and young 20 somethings. It's an expected first job, not super hard, not super busy, but more involved than stocking shelves or bagging groceries. And I get some great kids once in a while, some young adults who are learning how to adult.
But I get more kids who are coming out of a post COVID terminally online cocoon who have never been given a realistic image of the world outside their Tik Tok screen and it's horrifying.
I routinely have kids who call out at least once a week because they're stressed, they're anxious, they don't feel good, they overslept, they stayed up too late (note that this is after I try to teach them that they do not need to tell their employer why they are calling out and that it's in their best interest to not share personal or medical information that can be used against them but they think saying they're sick will be a get out of work free card). I've had more than one employee who I find sitting on the floor in front of the customer area because they're tired or "just chilling". Several who tell me after they've been hired that they can't work mornings, can't work evenings, can't work more than 5 hours days or more than 3 days in a row. I've had several talk to me about how they need to prioritize their mental health and take a self care day today, and tomorrow, and two days next week.
And I'm WORRIED for these kids, because the thing is, they are right that capitalism is a soul crusher, that we are overworked, that we are expected to give too much, that we deserve better hours and better pay, that our mental health needs to be our priority. These are all true things, but they think they can step out of mom and dad's house and into a world where they will be given these things and that's just...not the world we live in.
When I get a new hire I tell them about what is expected of them, they sign papers about hours and call outs and attendence and how they can be fired for not following this (I have no power to hire or fire I just manage them at their work). And still I have 22 year olds crying at me in the bathroom because they got fired for calling out 13 days in a month. I have kids who don't understand why they can't just stand there on their phone "vibing." That they should be exempt from talking to customers because they have social anxiety and have to accommodate them (this is a customer service job, there is no accommodations for not interacting with customers ) "They can't fire me for being sick!" But they can. "They can't fire me, I'm disabled and need these accomodations!" But they can, because nobody ever taught you what a reasonable accomodation is. "But we have a union!" A union can't help you after you've been written up four times.
I try to be a good first job and first boss. You need an extra break? Sure, go grab a snack. A customer yelled at you? I'll handle it, go cool off then we will talk about what to do next time. If you have an emergency, talk to me, you can probably leave early. I try to be a buffer between these young people and the corporate machine above me, meeting them where they are while trying bridge the gap between their ideals and the reality they're facing. And I still have employees who quit, telling me they're over worked and this or that is illegal (it isn't, it's just unfair) and they're gonna go find a job where they're appreciated, only to come back a few months later and ask for their job back because everywhere else sucked too.
But sorry. You didn't put in your two weeks like I told you to so now you're non rehireable and banned from ever working at this brand again.
I admire Gen Z's desire for something better. I'm not here to be a corporate bootlicker. I'm here as someone who needs to work my ass off to make ends meet. I'm disabled, my options are limited. I've been fired for my disability, which is legal cause you can't prove that's why and do you have the money for a lawyer to fight them? I don't. I play the game, I get by, and I'm just honestly really worried for these kids who have big dreams of a better world but no idea how to get by in the one they are in. You gotta eat, you gotta pay rent, you gotta have heat and power and water. You have to survive while you work on a world where you can thrive.
This isn't "gen Z lazy, gen Z stupid, Gen z bad", this is gen Z, especially working class gen Z, disabled gen Z and queer gen Z is gonna be totally fucked if they don't learn some entry level work skills and how to not get fired from Costco
