I don't know how to describe the moment of totality starting. All of the lights around us, including the ones lighting the statue I rested against, had turned on 60 seconds beforehand. The sun still, still shined down on us, but it was dark out, like an ending sunset with the ball of fire still hanging above us instead of falling behind the trees.

And then the thin strip of orange I viewed through my eclipse glasses vanished. Yet I still could not look to the sky without them. For a few seconds, the rays still shined down around the gluttonous moon and upon us. But as I glanced up and away and up and away, I glimpsed the outline of the moon beside the dim, blinding sun as it moved the last few miles through space to reveal the sky's splendor.

reblogged that covid post but im gonna be 1000% honest after a certain point i had to stop reading it because what it sounds like to me is that im gonna die at a way sooner age i could ever have wanted just because i had to go to a school that hated masking and since then ive had covid twice. maybe 3 times. i hate knowing that ive got a laundry list of new issues because i live in a house where exactly 1 person who ever suspects they could have covid masks and distances properly since everyone else still thinks its no big deal. moms boyfriend thinks it is and always was a hoax in a house with someone whos had memory issues its whole life and now cant get through most of its life without forgetting most things. im flying completely blind typing most of this post because my memory and brain fog are so exceedingly garbage i feel like im gonna cry and/or pass out

remember how the gov't totally helped with the AIDS crisis in the 80s and didn't work really hard to ignore it (at best) and due to their action then we totally don't have AIDS now? now imagine if instead of getting it through body fluid you could get it just for being breathed on at the grocery store. and instead of being an immune-suppressing disease and is speculated to be a prion disease. and that it's not AIDS it's COVID-19.
