#and now corona thinks ianthe doesn’t love her bc she chose not to eat her#meanwhile ianthe is thinking ‘i love my sister too much to kill and eat her so im gonna game the system so i can get immortality without#sacrificing anything or anyone i actually care about. im a genius’#i guess you could say...#she wants to have her cav and eat it too (via @apple-of-my-pie)
gideon is like if harrow really loved me then she’d look back/corona is like if ianthe really loved me she’d make good on when she called me a snack
The fucked up vibes of the Third House make way more sense with the reveal that Coronabeth isn’t a necromancer, because it shows that the power dynamic isn’t that of two necromancers and a cavalier, it’s a necromancer and two cavaliers.
Corona’s the cavalier in the emotional, interpersonal sense; she and Ianthe share codependent devotion, but Ianthe always has that power over her.
Naberius is the cavalier in the logistical sense. He doesn’t have that bond with Ianthe that cavaliers are supposed to have; they don’t even like each other. (Gideon and Harrow also spent most of their lives hating each other, but, like, in that obsessive way that’s just this side of romance where they want to tie the other person to them and constantly occupy their thoughts. Babs and Ianthe just think the other sucks.) He’s little more than a fancy set piece and a living battery.
And that’s why Corona is so crushed that Ianthe didn’t eat her; because all the trials were supposed to be about the bond between a cav and their necro, culminating in the ultimate expression of the cav’s loyalty and that deeply imbalanced relationship. Eating Babs recognizes him as Ianthe’s cavalier - with all the emotional investment that entails - instead of Corona.
