Going from scouring the internet from yt comments to any hint of keywords to rereading and refinding every scrap of content for my niche fav corinthian to having a feed just on Twitter filled with mountains and mountains of Alastor fanart because heâs a fan favorite is sure the experience
#not tagging bc this is blog specific for me đ#musings#my corinthian/boyd Holbrook fixation phase was NOT pretty i was clawing at the walls refreshing tumblr and twit every single day for even#a single mention of him#specifically i could only go to ONE artist for my corinthian art fix because they posted consistently#then we have alastor who i click on an artist and I have 20/30 pieces of fanart to dig into per user

My iphones battery got fried and wont charge anymore so i bought myself a refurbished android which im using right now and im making it needlessly complicated because im getting my iphone fixed anyway so i can retrieve all my contacts and photos and then sell it to recoup some money which like why did i even buy a new phone in the first place and the answer is customization + PC compatibility + on-the-go emulators + rejecting the apple aesthetic cult. so tell me why i started getting sad about the emojis...

There is an abundance of female!readers fics and writers who provide them; I am just here for people that takes a whole day searching for good male!reader fics. IF you do start an unnecessary rant about my fics or my writing preferences at a given moment; Iâve been in fandom spaces for the last 7 years of my life and run on pure manic adrenaline, I will throw hands.Â

quiet fury in your head [xi]
Dream of the Endless x AFAB!Reader!Goddess / Sandman Fanfiction
Note: This one took me so long to write and i don't love it LMAO but next chapter is gonna be like pure smut-no-plot so...that'll be fun. The fic only has TWO MORE CHAPTERS until it's complete that's crazy lmao tagging @sapphireonline cuz they asked so nicely to be tagged :). Also, my fics on ao3 are for registered users only due to AI scraping.
No use of Y/N. See part 1 for all the tags tbh.
Warnings: none
Rating: 18+
(Read on AO3) Â Â || Â Â (masterpost for other chapters)Â Â
While standing on the shining, white salt flats, The Gates of Horn and Ivory open for you and the Dreaming cautiously welcomes you.
Itâs emptier than you recalled (or perhaps the Dreaming creatures are hiding from you). You allow yourself the pleasure of viewing the Dreaming for the first time without anxiety and without fear. You glide your fingertips across a cobblestone bridge, and the clear, inviting bubbling brook beneath reflects an uneasy, shifting portrait of heartbreak and exhaustion. It takes a moment to realize the reflection is your own. You push away from the bridge, dusting residue from your palms, and trek deeper into the Dreaming.
A swarm of blue, shimmering butterflies fly past â their wings glow beneath rays of sunlight and faint glimmers of light trail in their wake. You lift your hands in greeting, hopeful that one might land upon your palm, but they merely dance through your fingertips with glittery wings before vanishing into the air. These creations radiated with such gentleness and care.
Morpheusâ absence is a thorn beneath your nail. You wrestle your difficult emotions into subservient silence. Your desire for him will achieve nothing and accomplish nothing. The prideful King has made his choice. He chose a glass orb prison in an amateurâs basement rather than to be with you and fulfill a centuries-old promise to reunite.
The landscape deepens to rich burgundy, dusky tan, and blooms beneath effervescent golden sunlight. The dry, warm air fills your nostrils and lungs. You stand on a plateau of flat, crimson rock. The sun remains in a perpetual state of dusk, painting the sky periwinkle, and pink, and streaking claws of orange. You crouch and lift fine, rusted sand and gravel into your palm. You hold it for a moment, sensing its warmth, feeling the essence of Dreamâs magic before releasing it, and watching it swirl and twist on the wind.
A creature approaches you, timidly, and is burdened by a shell on its backâits face is weathered and gray. The skin around its neck is saggy and loose. A lantern swings on the tall, oak-sculpted stick it carries. It stands a few feet shorter than you, squat and bipedal, and watches you with beady and cautious eyes.
It bows its bald, speckled head. âI remember you,â it says in low, resonate timbre. âThe Dreaming whispers your name, Lady Morrigan.â It speaks slowly with small âhmmsâ between each word.
You think of the Corinthian. Do all the creatures assume you abandoned them? Is this creature yours? Did you create him? You hold no memories of creating anything inside the Dreaming. You only manipulated what already existed. Yet, you cannot ignore the fact that you may have forgotten something. Anything is possible in the life of a reborn God.
âDo they know I died?â You ask, âthat I was unmade in the minds of Men? That I was forgotten? Erased?â You canât help but spit that final word with contemptuous venom. The graciousness of forgiveness is a difficult lesson to learn.
The lantern swings when it starts to walk again. âThe minds of Men may have forgotten. We did not.â
âDo you expect my gratitude?â you ask dryly.
Are you supposed to give this tortoise-creature a boon? That is what your devotees of old wanted. They had chanted, and sacrificed, and called you into their battlefields or into their beds. They begged for your blessing on all fours and you were fickle; You would kiss the brows of beloved warriors, or bite their hearts with a freezing, cold grip.
But you are no longer Nemain of the Sisters Three. You are simply The Morrigan, Queen of Nightmares, a forgotten monarch in the realm of Dreams. Your purpose slowly manifests before you. You promised Dream that you would return. If only he wasnât so unreasonably stubborn, then he wouldâve been next to you, with Roderickâs bones ground to dust beneath your heel. You desire for vengeance seizes like a vice around your throat. Roderick ought to be dead. The roots of his family tree torn asunder and fed to his funeral pyre.
The creature finally deigned to respond, âI expect nothing, my lady.â
Its black tongue licks itsâ wrinkled, dry beak. You sense itsâ desire to leave. The Dreaming flutters with this knowledge and cajoles you into trying to get it to stay. You fold your arms across your chest. It moves at a glacial pace, itsâ lantern swinging, itsâ clawed feet kicking up small plumes of reddish dust.
You say, âIt will take you decades to reach where youâre going.â
âIt is not about where I will be,â It says, âit is about the going.â
You shrug and allow the creature be.
*
You cannot effect anything within the Dreaming. Those powers remain locked inside a small ring that Dream used to wear on his pinkie finger. Aimless, you walk through the Dreaming, and you talk to Her inhabitants and in the words of a strange tortoiseâyou focus on âthe goingâ, rather than the destination.
The castle doors groan when they open. From the outside, it seems as if nothing had changed, but the interior plumes with dusty motes and freckles of ancient, unraveling magic. Your fingertips trail against the dusty banister as you move through the arched hallways with new eyes and a wounded heart.
You donât know this castle well. You never traversed it when you were confined to the Dreaming. Except for one place, of course. A place where an old friend might be found.
The scent of paper and leather fills your nostrils and Lucienne steps from the aisle of books as if she was expecting you.
âLady,â she bows her head as she says it.
âLucienne.â Her name is a feathery sigh from your throat. The sudden warmth that spreads through your chest is unexpected, but not unwelcome. Lucienneâs face hasnât changed. Her inquisitive eyes peer at you from behind her rounded spectacles. Her full cheeks round when she smiles.
âI cannot express how good it is to see you,â she says, a book clutched to her chest. âThe shelves knew of your return before I did.â She looks up, her expression icing into fraught sadness streaked with regret. The spine of a book trembles, like a frightened creature, before drops from the shelve and falls open to reveal its blank pages. Are all the stories gone?
âThey are not all empty,â Lucienne says, as if reading your mind, and offers the book sheâs holding to you. You read the etched, golden title. The Adventures Of...it reads before fading away onto the stiff leather. You flip through and discover an irregular layout of full chapters combined with blank sheets.
You ask, âWhat else remains?â
âYour room,â she says, returning the book to her hands and wearing it like a shield before her heart. âI did not go within, of course,â she adds quickly, âbut I know itâs there.â
You knew it too. You lick your lips and silently leave the room without farewell. Lucienne doesnât call after you, nor does she ask the questions you can see written across her face. There will be a time for questions later. Right now, you need to explore and confirm this reality â this land of broken Dreaming. A palace without a monarch. A graveyard without a keeper. A home without a hearth. The doorknob turns beneath your palm, welcoming you, as so many small pieces of the Dreaming tend to do.
A room you never slept inâexcept for when you were poisoned. A closet with clothes you never woreâexcept for your single black cloak. You step into the closet and quietly admire the craftsmanship of Dreamâs meticulous touch. Your fingertips glide through gauzy starlight, twinkling in your palm. You lift your nose to floral fabrics and your stomach swoops at the scent of full spring dancing through your nostrilsâlush, bright meadows, humming bumblebees, and the tickle of pollen at the back of your throat. The burning cold of frost, the viscous-ember of magma, the angry swell of a blue-gray sea; all of it is contained within your wardrobe.
Your jaw clenches. How can someone capable of such careful beauty be so stubborn and illogical? Why canât he see that his realm need him? That his selfishness is causing harm? You clench your hand around fabric that is storm-cloud and heat-lightning.
A name drops into your mind. A name you had accidentally forgotten. You sweep yourself into the dress in swirls of gray-and-white color before you vanish from the Dreaming in a thunderclap.
*
Your toes sink into the damp, cold sand and the rainwater prickles onto your skin. The air hums with the brewing storm. Something in your veins â something powerful â ricochets down your spine.
âDima!â you shout into the roiling, dark clouds above the ocean. âMorrigan, Goddess of Nightmares, calls upon you.â
The lightning flashes and strikes, erupting a piece of earth beside you, and sending hardened diamonds into the air as the budding rain commits to a roaring deluge. Dima is crouched in a three-point landing, her head bowed, kneeling and reverent at your feet. Your heart burns with joy.
âRise,â you say while opening your palm to her. âI would meet your eyes as a friend.â
Her hand slides into yours and you meet her white-eyes with a smile aching your cheeks.
âYou changed your name,â she says. You cannot tell if the water down her face is from the rain or her tears. In the end, it does not matter. You are happy to see her. She came when you called. She remembered you. That is all that matters.
âYou remember me.â
âI am not as fickle as mortals.â Dima sniffs. âThe sky, the stones, the water, and treesâŠâ She gestures with both arms to the world. âWe donât forget.â
You say, âNeither do Endless.â It wasnât only Dreamâs devotion that re-made you and brought you back into the world as a Goddess. Dima, too, played her part in your revival. An Endless and the personification of Storms believe in a Goddess. What an odd following you have claimed. Dima looks away when you mention Morpheus.
âHe lifted your banishment,â you whisper, and your words are clear despite the storm. âDidnât he tell you?â
Dima folds her fist over her heart. âI could not go back without you.â
âThen come back with me now.â You offer her your hand once more.
Her smile is bright. âIs this a choice or an order, my Lady?â
You chuckle softly, shaking your head at the gall â the bravery â of her. You are the Queen of Nightmares and yet Dima does not flinch. Perhaps thatâs because she knew you before your death. You donât frighten her and you donât want to. She was your first friend, after all.
âA choice, Dima.â
The rainfall starts to lessen. âThen I choose to accept.â
*
50 years laterâŠ
(1972)
This is your third time visiting Fawney Rig. The second had been a rushed visit after you felt Jessamyâs death. It had been like an arrow through your lungs. You brought yourself to the cellar and demanded Morpheus allow revengeâif not for him then for Jessamy.
You were bound to Corinthianâs promise to not harm Roderick. But, you could harm others. You could make them all suffer for their foolishness. You could make Roderick miserable. But, you wouldnât do it without Morpheusâ blessing. He needed to balance the scales. He needed to owe you his life, or something close to it, so that you could truly be equals.
Yet, Morpheus did not speak to you.
That had been about fifty years agoâgive or take. It was time to see if the Dream Lordâs stubbornness had finally eroded. The snowfall is light, though thick piles rest on the pine like bruises. You choose to feel the cold. You let it push through the weaves of your wool coat and prickle against your cheeks and nose.
You reach for the doorknob and your fingers freeze in mid-air, straining against an invisible force, before omniscience wraps itself around you. Theyâve warded Fawney Rig from me, you think with a furrowed brow. It was Corinthian, of this you have no doubt.
âCowardly little nightmare,â you mutter to yourself, though you are a little impressed. Itâs been decades since youâve seen Dream, yet Corinthian is afraid of you, and worried that youâll find a way around the promise that was made. âSmart,â you concede, blinking snowflakes from your eyelashes, âbut cowardly.â
You reach out to Dream through the ambiguous, void-space of one mind talking to another.
âI do not expect a reply, Lord of Dreams, but Iâd like you to know that theyâve warded the mansion against me.â You pause walking the perimeter. âSo, even if you wished for my help, I could not give it.â
The magic surrounding Fawney Rig is well-crafted, tailored, and not even your various shape-shifted forms can penetrate it. You circle towards the entrance.
âItâs snowing. The moon is full.â You donât know if Dream can hear you, but it feels nice to try. He rejects all of your ritual daggers, but perhaps he will take this instead â insignificant details of the world that he loves from the Goddess he revived.
âIâve always had a fondness for nights like these. The world is gray and white. The moon is like a silver coin in the sky.â
You crumple powdery snow between your fingers. âYou know, the mountains were my favorite place in the Dreaming. They still are, if weâre being forthcoming about it. Iâve yet to visit them again. They remind me of...solitude and serenity, the clarity that comes from being a distance.â
You pull a novel from the inner lining of your coat. There are hours before the next shift change and you want to see if the guards perform any rituals during the transition. You are curious to discover if you can break these bonds.
The hours whittle away as you speak to Dream, mind-to-mind.
âI heard about Roderickâs death. It couldâve been crueler. Should have been.â
âI wouldâve driven him mad, if it had been me. I would have plagued him with visions of his dead son until he freed you with broken, bloody hands.â
âI ran into your sibling, Desire. AboutâŠâ You count the years in your head. âThirteen years ago? I asked if they knew Iâd die if I returned to the Heart Tree and they said they had their suspicions.â You scoff. âWhich I believe means yes. You likely know them better than I, so draw your own conclusions.â You idly wave your hand as if brushing the story aside.
You disliked being set up as a pawn in an emotional chess game between ancient, cosmic entities. You had told Desire as much and were seething when you turned your heel and said, âLeave me out of it next time.â
You arenât a pawn, anymore. You look after the Dreaming. You look after mortalsâespecially young, scared children, like that little girl with the dogâregardless of whether or not they provide offerings or prayers. You donât like to get involved in their messy, dramatic, and short mortal lives, but you like to watch them. You like to see how the threads of fate unravel and twist unexpectedly.
In time, you know that âThe Morriganâ will eventually reach the collective consciousness, but you just donât yet know what new stories they will tell.
âIâll return when I can.â You rise to your feet from where you had been sitting in the snow.
âWhy?â His voice scrapes through your mind like gravel. Your knees buckle and you catch yourself on the manorâs brick wall. The cold air bites through your lungs. You want to live inside the roughed caress of his voice. A sweeter sound never made, you think, as you try to calm your heart.
Your heart hums. âNobody else listens half as well as you do.â You touch your forehead against the wall and the Ward stings your skin.
âUntil next we meet, Morpheus.â The promise lingers in the air among the snowflakes.

002 - Cocoluce
003 - Gault
002 send me a ship - CocoLuce when or if i started shipping it: last year, initially as a knee-jerk reaction to the way fandom kept characterizing Lucienne as either asexual or a frigid lesbian out of lazy misogynoir. (like, i think there COULD be a thoughtful take on Lucienne as ace--just like i think there's a reading where she's nonbinary or agender--but the fanon never provided any context for this headcanon, and it seemed to emerge as an excuse for why Lucienne and Dream couldn't be a major ship [or indeed, to have ever had any intimacy beyond "boss and employee"], or as a reason why Lucienne would only ever appear as a cheerleader for dreamling in fics.) it felt like another instance of (white) fandom's general attitude that Black female characters are somehow inherently undesirable (and not engaged as active, desiring subjects).
but that scene where the Corinthian reappears in the Dreaming and Lucienne is there waiting? Boyd and Viv play that as LOADED with interpersonal tension. like, his mouth is RIGHT THERE, practically brushing the shell of her ear, and she doesn't flinch or react beyond that long, simmering stare. the slow lowering of her eyelashes, the flick of her gaze up? and he turns his back to her! she watches him as he leaves! it's SUCH a vibe of fraught exes, and/or rivals for Dream's attention/affection. it's palpable chemistry.
and that's another thing i find isn't afforded to Black or Brown actresses: everyone talks about how much chemistry Tom Sturridge has with his costars, and no one talks about how his costars are ALSO responding to that in their acting choices (or...they do, when it's Ferdinand Kingsley or Holbrook, aka white dudes). (addendum: there's SOME mention of Melissanthi Mahut, because she's Dream's ex-wife, but uh. no mention of Deborah Oyelade? the lover Dream condemned to Hell? hm, i wonder why...) no one gives these women their due for the work they've put into the craft! instead it's either hypersexualization ("step on me, mommy") or dismissal.
anyways. once i get an idea it then becomes "okay so how does this work." what about the characters and their dynamic would make this happen/prevent this from happening? where are the points of friction?
my thoughts: so it's god's two favorites. it's the dark mirror of humanity and the archivist of all their dreams. the masterpiece and the librarian. OBVIOUSLY they've interacted. presumably Lucienne was already around when the first Corinthian was created. what does THAT look like? god's first and most precious raven, the only one who STAYED. god's finest work, most complex creation, the one who always hungered to leave. did the Corinthian comb through the library, when the dreams weren't enough to sate his taste for humanity? also what is the line between curiosity and hunger?
what makes me happy about them: two not-human (but human appearing) beings who've been around for centuries if not millennia, who absolutely know what makes the other tick and how to cut to the core. who have a certain level of affection for humanity. who are closer to Dream than most others, and afforded privileges due to that closeness. like, i'm not sure they ever loved each other, but they love Dream, and haven't you tried to get at the person you really wanted by getting close to someone they cared about? them finding use in each other - and isn't that a cruel sort of twist, being reduced to a function in one of the most intimate relations you could have?
what makes me sad about them: i mean. it's clearly tragic. it could never be inherently happy, so long as it hinges on the absence of Dream.
...gonna skip the two fanfic questions bc i just haven't seen enough fic with them. but! i do adore quiet in the library by ao3 user starkraving.
my kinks: the eternal cry with all bhol characters: put a leash on that man!
who i'd be comfortable with them ending up with, if not each other: i feel like my platform is "end racism in fandom spaces" and "polyamory." anyways CLEARLY they both actually love Dream.
my happily ever after for them: i do think there's a universe where lucienne/dream/corinthian as a poly V and occasional triad could be Good. maybe it's lucienne/danny/coco2. all that newness and grief. hey, isn't it a thing that people get horny at funerals? deleted Wake scene.

Controversial Character Tournament Round 2: Klaus Wulfenbach from Girl Genius vs The Corinthian from The Sandman
(remember that these characters are fictional and your fellow tumblr users are real. i will block you if you harass others in the notes, please consider sending your unhinged harassment to my inbox instead)
Propaganda under the cut, may contain spoilers:
Klaus Wulfenbach:
LOVE: - "He installed an overlay of himself in his son's head, experiments on other mad scientists' brains in his free time, took over all of Europa, and still manages to be one of the most ethical characters in the comic."
The Corinthian:
LOVE: - "well. difficult to say how i feel. he eats human eyeballs with his eye-teeth. he's kinda sweet with kids. he kills a pedo at the serial killer convention."

a list of literary references in aitsf: nirvana initiative chapter titles
tidied up this ol' twitter thread. basically: every single chapter title in aini is a reference to a work of literature, i figured out most of them. here's an explanation of where they came from and what they mean. let us begin.
edit: some gaps filled in by the discord user aaabatteries! thank you!
"a strange tale"/"dispossessed"/"alone" (chapter 0) reference 'the turn of the screw' by henry james.
the framing device of this novella is a group of friends reading a manuscript written by someone else. ryuki being interrogated by mizuki is something of a framing device for what we perceive as his 'side' of the story, six years ago. this is also a quintessential piece of gothic fiction, which is famously concerned with the subconscious and repression- two themes aitsf is very interested in!
"anyone imagines"/"ought to know" (ryuki chapter 1) reference the bible verse corinthians 8:2
"If anyone imagines that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know"
naix is an ideology that has the power of religion over its believers. this quotation reflects that people who don't believe in the ideology who think they understand the nature of the world (and believe it's real) are ignorant to the fact it's a simulation.
"nothing to be done"/"go" (ryuki chapter 2) reference 'waiting for godot' by samuel beckett
"nothing to be done" is something of a reoccurring joke in the play. much time is spent watching characters act aimlessly, accomplish little, and lack purpose. these chapters in the game have a lot to do with ryuki feeling frustrated by tokiko's indecipherable philosophical ramblings.
"farewell"/"joy for anguish"/"smile for tears" (ryuki chapter 3) reference 'farewell' by anne bronte.
"And who can tell but Heaven, at last, May answer all my thousand prayers, And bid the future pay the past With joy for anguish, smiles for tears?"
this poem is about the pain of saying goodbye to a loved one. of course, "saying goodbye" is a classic euphemism for death. these titles likely reference shoma reckoning with komeji's death. the joy/anguish duo are strange parallel chapters where komeji lives or dies.
"well known"/"mind of god" (ryuki c4 r1) reference 'a brief history of time' by stephen hawking
"If we do discover a theory of everythingâŠit would be the ultimate triumph of human reasonâfor then we would truly know the mind of God."
these chapters introduce us to tearer as a character, who is, of course, closely linked to naix and their ideology. naix believe they understood the nature of human existence, and accomplished the goal of knowing 'the mind of god'.
"i found me"/"past its ken" (ryuki c4 r2) reference "the masked face" by thomas hardy
"I found me in a great surging space, I" At either end a door" ... "There once complained a goosequill pen To the scribe of the Infinite Of the words it had to write Because they were past its ken."
this poem is about people with a negative outlook who struggle to comprehend that there is more to the world than they know. shoma only believed in shallow simulation theory to justify his depression. "past its ken" means beyond one's established knowledge.
"not all a dream"/"she was the universe" (ryuki chapter 5 r1) reference "darkness" by lord byron
"I had a dream, which was not all a dream. The bright sun was extinguish'd" ... "Darkness had no need Of aid from themâShe was the Universe."
this poem describes an apocalypse that resembles a natural disaster. fitting that this route leads to the explosion ending, involving the collapse of the underground cave. darkness becomes "the universe"- ryuki is traumatised.
"pass mildly away"/"end where i begun" (mizuki c1) reference "a valediction: forbidding mourning" by john donne
"As virtuous men pass mildly away, And whisper to their souls to go" ⊠"Thy firmness makes my circle just, And makes me end where I begun."
this poem is about two lovers parting, but i think the game uses it to reflect platonic relationships. kizuna has lost bibi. bibi lost mizuki. mizuki lost date. family members who love each other deeply have been apart for a long time.
"the expense of spirit"/"hell" (mizuki chapter 3) reference sonnet 129 by william shakespeare.
"The expense of spirit in a waste of shame Is lust in action..."
this poem theorises that after people satisfy their lust (their desires), they're left with shame. this could be a metaphor for chikara's experiments, but he doesn't seem to feel shame. i think it's about mizuki wanting answers about the institute until she gets them and they're painful.
"all living things"/"of arms and of man" (mizuki chapter 4 m2) references virgil's "the aenid".
"I sing of arms and of the man, fated to be an exile, who long since left the land of Troy and came to Italy to the shores of Lavinium"
i think a parallel is drawn between lien and the protag of the aenid, aeneas. he flees the fall of troy and travels to rome, becoming the original descendant of the ancient romans. lien escapes the 'tragedy' of his life of crime and becomes something of a hero to kizuna.
"who's there"/"bid the soldiers shoot" (mizuki chapter 4 m2/m3) reference the first and final lines of william shakespeare's "hamlet".
the first line is spoken by a guard who hears the ghost of hamlet sr. in this route, jin's corpse is found in the freezer... not quite a ghost. the final line is spoken by fortinbras, an invading prince, upon storming the palace and finding the corpses of the whole cast. he commands the shots to commemorate the deaths of the royalty. lien and kizuna escape among the gunfire of chieda's armed goons... some commemoration.
"all that we are" (mizuki c5 m2) is a buddha quote.
âAll that we are is the result of what we have thought: it is founded on our thoughts and made up of our thoughts. If a man speak or act with an evil thought, suffering follows him as the wheel follows the hoof of the beast that draws the wagonâŠ. If a man speak or act with a good thought, happiness follows him like a shadow that never leaves him.â
this chapter precedes gen and amame's end. gen highlights that he considers amame to be a naturally kind and loving person in a way that others haven't been towards him. this quotation implies that good things follow kind people, which doesn't follow considering the tragic end amame gets here.
"sweet silent thought" (mizuki chapter 5 m3) references shakespeare's sonnet 30
When to the sessions of sweet silent thought I summon up remembrance of things past, I sigh the lack of many a thing I sought, And with old woes new wail my dear time's waste
this poem is about regrets. when you think "sweet silent thoughts" (contemplate your life), you feel unhappy and consumed by what-ifs. interesting that this chapter is the direct opposite of the poem- lien and kizuna take their chance and run away together. no regrets!
"births"/"the end of craving" (mizuki c5 m1) is a buddha quote once more.
simply put, to reach the end of craving is to achieve the titular nirvana and a higher state of being.
"braver than all flowers" (epilogue) references "proof of immortality "by william carlos williams
"for there is one thing braver than all flowers; richer than clear gems; wider than the sky"
this is a sort of humorous poem about how the one thing that humans throughout history have in common is ignorance. maybe it's a ref to how the mizukis used their wit and investigation skills to overcome that ignorance and win the day?
"all this happened, more or less" (ryuki diverge) references the opening line of slaughterhouse-five by kurt vonnegut.
this is regarded as a crazy opening line for a crazy novel. it's the literary equivalent of "well, that happened" for better or worse, much like this ending.
the only currently missing reference is 'traveler'/'left behind'.
