PUMA Signs USMNT Star Weston McKennie

Gli altri sport: Raul Gardini e il Moro di Venezia

Alle spalle della stazione ferroviaria di Ravenna, s' innalza, sulle acque del Canale Candiano, una grande barca a vela sospesa in aria, con un grande albero maestro che  svetta nel cielo e, sotto di lui,  uno scafo rosso e nero. Quella barca è il Moro di Venezia, ideata dall’imprenditore Raul Gardini, che fu protagonista nel 1992 in Coppa America. Fu nel 1992 che Gardini, con il sostegno economico e tecnologico di Montedison, decise di intraprendere l’avventura velica della Louis Vuitton Cup. Precedentemente aveva fatto costruire presso la Compagnia della Vela di Venezia il primo scafo denominato Il Moro nel 1990, a cui seguirono nei due anni successivi altri quattro scafi con lo stesso nome, varati in Spagna e negli Stati Uniti. L’ultimo di questi, visto come il più affidabile, prese parte alle regate della Louis Vuitton Cup proprio nel 1992, dove il vincitore della competizione avrebbe sfidato ufficialmente il team statunitense per aggiudicarsi l’America’s Cup. Nelle acque di San Diego il Moro, capitanato dallo skipper statunitense Paul Cayard, terminò la prima fase al 3°posto, ma nella semifinale battè la giapponese Nippon Challenge e i francesi di Le Defi, restando sola a sfidare il team di New Zealand Challenge. La finale non partì bene per gli italiani che in breve furono a un solo punto dalla sconfitta ma, con meno di un minuto di distacco il Moro riuscì, contro ogni pronostico, a vincere la coppa. Per la prima volta, in 141 anni di storia del trofeo, l’imbarcazione di un paese non anglofono poteva ambire alla Coppa America. La finale della gara iniziò il 9 maggio del 1992 e il team America era il grande favorito, dopo che vinse la prima regata con trenta secondi di vantaggio. Il secondo confronto fu a favore degli italiani, che batterono gli statunitensi per una manciata di secondi, con una manovra unica, a pochi metri dal traguardo e fu la prima vittoria di un’imbarcazione italiana in una finale di Coppa America. Dopo altre quattro regate molto tese, il Moro cedette agli americani, che si aggiudicarono il trofeo. La spedizione italiana tornò a Ravenna nel tripudio generale, fiera di aver compiuto comunque un’impresa epica. L’imbarcazione di Ravenna è Il Moro III, lo scafo più veloce dei cinque fatti costruire al tempo in vista della Coppa America. Dopo la storica competizione, Il Moro III venne  acquistato da Diego Della Valle che nel 2008 lo cedette all’Autorità Portuale di Ravenna. Nel 2013 lo scafo fu trasferito accanto alla sede dell’Autorità, dove rimase fino al 2021. The deal with the league is worth $75 million a season.

This is huge, as this will greatly increase the league’s visibility in the country. CBS is one of America’s Big Three, as they were among the first three broadcasters in the country. The network is not only one of America’s biggest, but it’s also one of the most important networks in the United States.

CBS also has the rights to the Champions League, Europa League, the Brasileirāo and Argentine leagues, and the NWSL as well.

Luna Rossa prossima gara: si punta alla velocità e alla solidit del team

Il team di Luna Rossa nella prossima gara punterà alla velocità ma anche sulla solidità del gruppo: domani 12 Marzo 2021 – vento permettendo – ci saranno altre due regate e Luna Rossa riparte con più fiducia.

Intanto la squadra italiana ha vinto la seconda regata di finale nella baia di Auckland, in Nuova Zelanda. La prima prova era andata ai neozelandesi. Ma dopo le prime due del 10 Marzo, ci sono in programma altre 11 regate. Oggi è giornata di riposo, poi da domani verranno disputate due prove al giorno fino a mercoledì 17 marzo. In caso di parità (6-6)  si disputerà la 13ma e ultima regata che assegnerà invece il titolo finale America’s Cup 2021. Dopo la prima giornata siamo sull’1-1. Una vittoria per parte.

Argentina 2021 Year in Review – Top 15 moments, part 2

The year 2021 brought a lot of memories when it came to Argentine football with some good and some not as good.

While the biggest of all may have come in July, there were many moments which stole the headlines before July and after the Copa America win. In this three part article, we will be reviewing the top 15 moments in Argentine football of the past 365 days.

This article will focus on Moments 9-4 with the video below!

With the Copa America beginning at the start of June, by the end of May, no one was even sure if the tournament was going to be played. Initially, it was supposed to be held both in Argentina and Colombia. But unrest within Colombia and COVID meant that they would drop out of being the hosts.

This left Argentina as the remaining host but even that did not happen. The rise of COVID in the country ultimately led to the decision of having to host the tournament elsewhere.

Chile, Paraguay and even the United States were looked at as possible destinations. However, Brazil would become the hosts as the tournament would be held in the country for the second consecutive edition.

Argentine players make up not only many of the top leagues but also many of the top teams. Beginning in Spain, Diego Simeone coached Angel Correa and Atletico Madrid to a La Liga triumph. Lionel Messi would not win La Liga but would win the Copa del Rey with FC Barcelona.

In England, Sergio Agüero won his last ever club trophy with Manchester City as they lifted the Premier League to go with his EFL Cup. Lautaro Martinez would win Serie A with Inter with Paulo Dybala winning Coppa Italia with Juventus.

Angel Di Maria, Leandro Paredes and Mauro Icardi would not win Ligue 1 but would lift the Coupe de France with Paris Saint-Germain and Mauricio Pochettino.

In the Netherlands, Nicolas Tagliafico and Lisandro Martinez would win the league in Ajax.

Geronimo Rulli and Juan Foyth would win the Europa League with Rulli being the hero in the penalty shootout for Villarreal. While Agüero would not win the Champions League with Manchester City, it would be Willy Caballero with Chelsea who would lift the trophy.

If someone were to ask you if you could one day see Javier Mascherano coaching somewhere, you were likely to answer yes, you could see him as a coach. On December 9, it was announced that the former Argentine international would take charge of the Argentina U20 team as of the start of January.

He will replace Fernando Batista. Mascherano took part in three FIFA World Cup tournaments for Argentina, won a treble with FC Barcelona and well, anyone who has watched football the past 15 years will know exactly what he brings to the table.

While it was never much in doubt this time around, it’s a great feeling when it happens. Argentina qualified for the 2022 World Cup! On November 16, following Argentina’s 0-0 draw against Brazil in the World Cup qualifiers, other results in South America meant that Lionel Scaloni’s team would book their ticket to Qatar.

With four matches remaining in qualification, Ecuador getting a 2-0 win against Chile meant that mathematically, the Copa America champions would be at the World Cup next year!

But it was not without some controversy as the team could have likely secured their spot before. A controversial match in September against Brazil meant that their World Cup qualifying match would be called off after only minutes.

Brazilian officials would storm the pitch as according to them, Emiliano Martinez, Cristian Romero and Gio Lo Celso were not allowed to play. Protocols due to COVID when entering the country would have meant that the three players from England would not have been allowed to participate.

However, the other side of the story is that there was an agreement in place between CONMEBOL, the teams and the countries to allow exceptions. The result of the match has not yet been determined.

Now in the top 5, we are going to talk about a top 5 Manchester City legend. Sergio Agüero would leave Manchester City after a decade at the club along with dozens of memories.

During his time at Manchester, Agüero would win the Premier League Golden Boot, two Player of the Year awards at Manchester City, a City goal of the month and several Premier League Player of the Month and PFA Team of the Year wins.

However, no accolade will likely be as big as the one goal which he scored against QPR back in 2012. The goal which won City their first league trophy in decades and one which would automatically cement the Argentine’s spot in the annals of time after just one season.

He would leave City to beautiful Barcelona where it looked like he would be playing alongside great friend Lionel Messi. But as he put pen to paper to his contract bringing him back to Spain, no one knew what would await the City legend.

Coming in at number 4 is number 7 for Lionel Messi. Ballon d’Or number 7 for the Argentine as he would win it in on November 29, 2021 for a record 7th time. He would beat one of the favorites Roberto Lewandowski and even Jorginho for the award. Winning the Copa America with Argentina as well as being named the Best Player of the tournament and finishing as the tournament’s top scorer and most assists, as mentioned, he would also win the Copa del Rey with FC Barcelona. Oh and he would win the Pichichi, La Liga’s top scorer for the season.

Messi would be quoted as saying:

“Today I’m here in Paris. I am very happy, really, very happy, I really want to continue to fight and reach new objectives. I don’t know how many more years but I am really enjoying myself. I thank my team-mates at Barça, Paris & Argentina.

“I especially want to thank the squad and the coaching staff of the Argentina national team. I was able to achieve the dream I wanted so much. In the end, it happened and this award is in large part of what we did at the Copa America. This is part of them.”

Torna La Cinquanta, per chiudere la stagione offshore 2021

Dal 23 al 24 ottobre si corre la ottava edizione della piccola di casa CNSM La ottava edizione de La Cinquanta, ultimo atteso appuntamento con le regate d’altura a Caorle, organizzata dal Circolo Nautico Santa Margherita in collaborazione con la Darsena dell’Orologio e la partnership di Cantina Colli del Soligo, Antal, WD Wind Design, Trim, Caorle Spiaggia e Cà Corniani, si disputerà il week end del 23 e 24 ottobre. La regata è l’epilogo della stagione offshore del Circolo Nautico Santa Margherita, inziata con La Ottanta e proseguita poi con La Duecento e La Cinquecento Trofeo Pellegrini “Anche quest’anno la partecipazione alle nostre regate offshore è stata cospicua.” racconta il Presidente CNSM Gian Alberto Marcorin “Da aprile ad ottobre gli armatori hanno la possibilità di disputare regate d’altura in diverse stagioni e con diversi gradi di difficoltà, sia per equipaggi esperti che per neofiti. Proprio questi ultimi spesso scoprono un diverso modo di andar per mare, dove conta l’agonismo ma entra in gioco anche la marineria”. In questo fine stagione 2021 a scendere in acqua lungo il percorso Caorle-Lignano-Grado e ritorno saranno una sessantina di imbarcazioni. Tra gli equipaggi X2, al via i neo campioni italiani offshore classe D Massimo Minozzi e Andrea Da Re su Tokio, che troveranno sul loro cammbino molti avversari delle regate offshore di Caorle con qualche volto nuovo, tra i quali Mauro e Giovanni Trevisan su Hauraki, Franco Daniele e Cesare Bressan su Città di Grisolera, Oreste e Sofia Maran su Ali, Massimo Juris e Pietro Scarpa su Gecko, Alberto Moricoli e Antonio Morandi su Hakuna Matata. Nella categoria XTutti la regata si annuncia combattuta con al via barche diverse per dimensioni e prestazioni che si confronteranno con i sistemi compensati IRC e ORC oppure in base alla lunghezza per quanti sceglieranno di correre in Open. Tra i più grandi in lizza per il Trofeo Line Honour E Vai, Mylius 76 di Gabriele Lualdi e Hagar V, lo Scuderia 65 di Gregor Stimpfl già vincitore nelle acque di Caorle. Il via alla regata verrà dato alle ore 10.00 di sabato 23 ottobre e il tempo limite per concludere il percorso sarà domenica 24 ottobre alle ore 12.00. Le premiazioni si terranno sabato 30 ottobre alle ore 17.30 nella splendida cornice delle cantine di Cà Corniani – Terra d’Avanguardia, frazione a pochi chilometri dal centro storico di Caorle.
