Good afternoon, folks... I'm sharing this as a separate post in regards to our look at February 20th, 1943. IG's ridiculous photo framing kept cropping the image, and out of respect to the men who died on this ship, I wanted to make sure the image stayed complet. Eighty Years Ago, Yesterday: (Friday) February 20th, 1943, off Coos Bay, Oregon: The coasts of the Pacific can be just as violent and the storms as deadly as the east coast. And today, a US Navy Minesweeper falls victim to them. The USS YMS-133 (YMS-Class, Sister Ship, Photo 3), an Auxiliary Motor Minesweeper, is caught in a gale, and sinks. Eight men are washed overboard and drowned. 21 survivors are rescued by local fishermen, and the venerable US Coast Guard. However, five more men will succumb to their injuries following rescue. All told, 13 US Navy Sailors lose their lives in the sinking, just off the shores and relatively safety of American Soil. What: Small Grilled Chicken for Mrs. Jelly, and Turkey with an Attitude for ChromeDome (along with some macaroni salad to share!)

Thoughts: Always a solid choice!  We hit up City Subs every time we drive through Coos Bay around lunchtime. (This time we took our sandwiches to Shore Acres for a little picnic.).  They are closed Sunday & Monday, and open 10-4 Tuesday-Friday/10-2 on Saturday.  We watch their Facebook page for daily specials and other updates.  As we discovered them during the pandemic we have not yet sat to eat at the restaurant, but the inside does look adorable!  At this point we have only 4 more subs to try before we’ve done the whole menu, and we recommend them all!  The pasta, macaroni, and potato salads are good, too!
