“Do you know how everyone came back?” They were the same age, and had grown up together, really. She was there for him after his dad died, and he’d been around when her mom went missing. They both knew something about a bad element growing up, and yet, somehow he still looked to her as if she was supposed to have all the answers. He’d been in the supernatural world for much longer than her, but in his mind there was something unique about being a phoenix, she could see things that he couldn’t, and so he wondered now if she had any idea why time had gone back and the veil came back up. “I just... I can’t believe it, I’m happy, but I don’t ever want that to happen again.”

“I heard he’s back.” Atlas commented, speaking on the person that the two of them hated mutually, “Rae killed him, but it happened after the veil fell so it didn’t stick.” The fury said, disappointment was evident in his tone as he said it, he’d hoped that the witch who’d hurt his friend would simply stay dead but apparently he was not so fortunate. The news had taken a heavy toll on Xander and Alarick, he didn’t know what either saw in the man, but it did make a conflict of interest. Atlas didn’t want to hurt them again. “Are you still working at the bar?” Atlas asked, “Winter and I could always use a hand around here, if you wanted.”

“He met Lucas and his brother working on a dock, Rowan in an unassuming diner, trapped in a life with a grim end. He found next the one named Noah, a tainted soul that still burned; then at last Phoenix found Ela, an old soul buried in stories. A merchant, a waitress, a nurse, a student with one thing in common: pain.”

“I wondered when you would be in here again,” Erik greeted, he might have expected Rowan to be his first customer after he moved back to Corinth Bay. The phoenix and him had crossed paths a few times, the last after her maker had unbound his kind from the witches. “I still have some honey cookies left over if you’re looking for more.” If he remembered right that had been his recommendation to her the last time she’d visited his booth at the festival.

It wasn’t lost on him that shortly after he’d agreed to train the woman, he pulled the lessons that he’d been offering. After his exchange with Ava and Winter Hyacinth didn’t much care to help anyone that was left. Hated for his part in the sundering of the veil, and resented for his indifference towards the plight of the supernaturals, it wasn’t lost on him that there were those in the city that would conspire against him. Let them come he’d often said, Hyacinth cared little for the opinions of others, and felt threatened even less. “Did you ever find a tutor?” He was fishing, and poorly at that.

The reaper was drawn by a soul that was nearly faded, just a breath away from requiring an escort. It was annoying, particularly when he had been enjoying the company of a handsome werewolf. But alas, so long as the music played, he would dance. Emre appeared in the alley, not far from the man, his throat had nearly been ripped clear out by what could only have been a vampire. Then, there was a woman there, her aura was brighter than any he had encountered before, warm, reassuring. She knelt beside the man and wept. Did she know him? It was rare for the reaper to have been caught off guard in life, and it was even rarer that anything ever impressed him. Then, suddenly, the man’s soul was being ushered back into his body.
Emre appeared.
What did you do?”

Cole had met phoenixes in the past, Lucas had restored their soul over a century ago, they had slept with another, Noah, in an on-call room not too long ago. So when a woman stepped foot onto the campus library, aura bright and warm, the spirit recognized her for what she was immediately. Nemesis’ persona of Cole was a student, they had classes, they had exams, they had repeated a few years, but an education was not really their goal. Inception, manipulation, these were the things that interested the oneiroi, for their only true goal was finding out the secret to creating more of their kind. Everything else was simply background noise. They could not tell you how many people had left the school in pursuit of some obscure study, the occult, the ancient world, anything that the spirit could do to branch out and diversify their efforts.
“Enrolling in some courses for the fall?” Cole asked as the woman wandered by, they aimed to catch their attention, bold enough to speak out whenever they desire. Cold had never known pain, nor mortality, and it grafted a sort of hubris within them, despite the knowledge that they were not indestructible, there were so few of them left, fewer who even knew of their existence. “Because you’re in the wrong place if you are.”

She kept pestering him, self righteous this, phoenix that, and Markus could not be bothered to listen to what Rowan was trying to tell him. The witch was distinctly reminded of why he had ripped her heart out of her chest during the storm when he was still a vampire, but now, void of that power, and on a path to make better decisions, Markus would not or could not do that. Still, she was asking after Alarick? Zeus? Rowan was apparently Alarick’s favourite employee but Markus truly did not get the appeal, in response to whatever it was that she asked him he just held up his middle-finger instead.

Rowan had been excited upon receiving the letter claiming he had a soulmate. He hadn’t wasted any time making arrangements to come to the island. Though he was incredibly nervous and infinitely shy he had been convinced that anyone who could be his soulmate would like those things about him. He had arrived a few days earlier and had admittedly spent most of that time in his room waiting to see if his person would even show up. The waiting was killing him though and he finally decided it was time to go out and meet some people and stop being such a hermit. He had spent so much time convincing himself to leave the room that he didn’t pay any attention as he rushed out of it nearly making the person walking by fall over. “I’m so sorry I wasn’t watching where I was going. Are you okay?”

Another visitor, another person to tell him how fucking stupid he was. Micah wasn’t exactly thrilled, but he’d simply nodded when the nurse had asked if he was up for seeing anyone. They were still keeping him for observation but pending any signs of infection or alarming results in his vitals, Micah would be free to go that afternoon. He was feeling stronger now, strong enough to shift anyways, in his other form any damage would heal faster but he still didn’t know how long it was going to take. “Hey Roe,” Micah said weakly before he shifted and sat up in bed, “what are you doing here?” Who told you.

Crimes committed out of anger called to him most acutely, they were what Alecto held sovereignty over. Atlas could feel the pull long before Rowan stepped into his shop, a gnawing anger that twisted in his gut and made him grip the edge of the counter until his knuckles turned white and his fingernails cut into the wood. Something had happened, she carried - something - a burden, a crime, but it was not her own. If he wanted, the fury could have looked into her memories and uncovered it for himself, and were she not his friend, Atlas would have done just that. It was easier to operate that way, unperceived by the mortals who did not know their victimhood was not going unresolved. “What happened?” Atlas asked, he had not seen the phoenix since their time together in the labyrinth, but even now he could see that something to her brightness had dimmed.

While Petrichor would still consider himself retired, he had decided to remain in the city after all. There were people that needed him here still, and he would stay for them. “I watched you, you know.” The original phoenix mused, “From the other side.” When the veil had been reformed and time was jumped backwards, Petrichor had crawled from the ashes beneath the rubble of a destroyed building. With an eruption of azure fire, he freed himself, and returned home. He had watched Daphnis’ work from the other side, all of the Blessed had watched with bated breaths as the rift sacrificed himself in order to return magic to this world. His life force could be felt still, the final gift of a soul who was far too good for this world. “I can’t tell you how proud I am of you.”

“You look like you’ve seen better days.” Markus commented dryly, there was amusement behind his tone, though the vampire did try to hide it as best he could. He was not heartless, but neither had his heart beat for over fifteen hundred years. The former king was not a sadist, torture, pain, these were not things that excited him, they were tools, devices, fear was a weapon - just as he himself was. One more relic in the cult’s arsenal, one of many, insignificant, as Hektor had so kindly pointed out. “This place had a quick turn around,” the vampire said dryly as he drew his glass to his lips and gestured to the bar, it was a common haunt for him, considering the man he was presently sleeping with owned the place. “Rowan, right?”

“You two here together?” Micah asked, he’d watched Rowan enter with a brunette, pretty, but the shifter didn’t really know if the phoenix was seeing anyone, or if there was something more to that story. Emory hadn’t mentioned a girlfriend, and since Micah had resigned to being single for eternity he couldn’t help but stick his nose into someone else’s business. Besides, it was a party, and he was starved for entertainment. “She’s pretty. You look great by the way.”

“ i love this. just you, me, an ungodly amount of blankets and netflix. ”
"It is nice." Atlas agreed as he snuggled a little further into the couch, Kyon and Willy were busy going wild. Just because Rowan and Atlas had declared a stress free night did not meant the dogs were willing to comply. Still, he was more than used to listening to the loud patter of her footsteps on the floor as he tried to concentrate on something else.
"We should make a tradition out of this." It was too easy to fall into the rhythm of work and more work and forget that it was okay to sit, relax, and decompress with a friend every once in a while. Here away from the city Alecto's anger was a dull reminder of his place in this world, one that was easy supplanted by a marathon session of the second season of some trashy reality show about horned-up twenty-somethings who couldn't keep their hands off of each other.
"At least once a month, for our health."
