“I- huh. I know this is crazy and sudden,” Oliver started, swallowing hard as he leaned on the door frame with that puppy like expression and a bashful smile to go with. There was a lot he wanted to say, and also a lot he knew it was best not to, but the fact that he remained an outspoken and confident person remained. He couldn’t back down from this, he really couldn’t.

“-- Remember that girl I told you about last week, the girl I saved from a crazed thief? She’s getting married and she literally just invited me to her wedding tomorrow. And I need a- uhm. I need a date.”

You know I haven’t seen it! I’m so shocked with myself! Is it good though? Maybe you and I can watch it together at some point.

Has anyone else seen the Masked Dancer? It’s been interesting and quite short. Which is quite disappointing because they could’ve made it a bit longer. Though, I can see why it’s shorter than The Masked Singer.

               she hadn’t meant to end up here, again... why was she always circling back around to this place? why was it that she couldn’t just let this be what it was supposed to be? just work, just another client, just nothing as it always was... with every step forward that nevaeh made, her mind was begging her to reverse it. she’d told her she was leaving hours ago, but instead of going like she’d meant to, she sat outside in her truck, mind going down a tunnel of memories she tried so hard to repress... she was going to regret this, she had things to do, a shift to start in an hour, appointments until the sun came up...               her boots were kicked off and sat to the side, jacket off, hands trembling (a trait so out of place on her that it only made the urge to leave even stronger). she pulled back the blankets gingerly, not wanting to wake sheridan, and climbed silently under them. she hesitated to touch her, but after a moment she let her hand run gently over sheridan’s shoulder. “ sher... wake up... ”

“I think there’s been a misunderstanding, dude,” Oliver started, trying to make his voice sound that much friendlier than before, but he figured the real problem was the blue uniform he was wearing and not exactly his tone.

But he had to make up for it somehow, didn’t he?

“Let me start over. Hi, I’m officer Grayson and we’re conducting an investigation of certain illegal activities in the neighborhood.”

That was better. Much better. This one time he made sure to relax his shoulders and appeal to the other boy’s nature, not as a police officer, but as maybe a friend. Everybody needed a friend nowadays, did they not? Even if that friend was all dressed in blue, had a badge and carried a gun.

“Do you mind if I steal some minutes of your time? I have a couple of questions.”

“I’m not frowning upon the idea of sex. I’m twenty years old, sex is perfectly alright in my book. What I’m saying is that some things should be kept between just you and your partner. Exposing yourself so thoroughly just leaves you vulnerable and makes you easier to hurt in the long run.”

Nate fiddled with his sleeve, refusing to make eye contact with the other man.

“Besides, you hardly know me, and what you do know of me isn’t exactly a ringing endorsement now is it?”

Oliver nodded in understanding. He could tell where Nate was coming from, so he wasn’t surprised that was his train of thought. He couldn’t help the extroverted nature he had been born with, so he didn’t see the wrong in his ways even when it was being pointed out... But he figured it couldn’t be helped when it was so obvious Nate was an introvert himself.

“You know, there’s something my father used to say...”

“Wear your flaws like armor so no one can use them against you.”

He left the words hanging there for a moment.

“I believe that’s true. No one can use your secrets against you if you don’t keep any.”

             “ you think i’m unaware of that? don’t worry about it alright, because they won’t find out. ”

               the pinkness of her tongue could be seen in a quick flash as she ran it over her teeth in contemplation. “ you can’t? hm...” she tucked her hands into the back pockets of her black cargo pants. “ i would say neither can i, but somehow it doesn’t surprise me. the world is small. ” she took a moment to kick some mud from her heavy work boots before posing a questioning look over at him as if to say ‘ any ideas? ’
