The funniest thing to me about analogue horror as a genre is that if those VHS tapes are being stumbled upon now, roughly 30 years after they were made, if they weren't stored in ideal conditions there's a good chance they're already demagnetized and won't play back correctly at all

silly silly question but do you think that rockstar eddie, once he found out np's plan to digitized their home movies, suggested to her to include their sextape that def they still have on a vhs tape somewhere in his safe lmao
i love silly silly fun questions. my fav kind of questions.
i like to think he’s kinda old and grumpy about technology in a way. very much so “this is the problem these days” and nagging on about it. it was a miracle when he got a cell phone (that he doesn’t use), and an even bigger one when he finally upgraded from a flip phone to an iphone… that he keeps until it breaks and then he wants the exact same one. like he’s not a big tech guy, thinks it’s too complicated and goes on a big rant about how he’s not becoming a phone zombie.
i think he’d digitalize the girls home movies- well, nb does it. he just enjoys it. he gets them made into dvds first and then actually digitalized. but in his basement office, he still has a vhs player and a tv that he keeps because he likes it.
i think he’d keep the numerous (they were bored and horny and someone gave them a video camera like what did you think?) sex tapes on the vhs, just because 1) he wouldn’t want it to somehow get lost in the shuffle and one of the girls find it or something and 2) it just adds to the sexy ambiance of it being on a vhs.
i do think, however, that he decides to record it while it’s playing and keep it on his phone. just pictures older!rockstar!eddie filming it on the tv screen, you 1000% can see his reflection holding the camera while younger him and nb are banging it out on the screen. actually so fucking funny of him and i love it.
nb has it on dvd tho lol. got it converted a few years ago and didn’t tell him.

what did you use to record your art onto vhs tapes and digitize them ? I have a few crts and idk what to buy in order to do that
I would display my laptop screen onto my CRT with an HDMI2AV converter, then i would record my art onto a tape that was in the VCR. Personally my process gets a lot more complicated from here because of Reasons, but you can buy a cheap AV digitizer online (which hooks up to your VCR and to your laptop/computer) and use OBS to record it from the VCR. I have to use a separate VCR from my TV because my TV doesn't have any output ports just inputs.
Sorry if this explanation isnt great, my process of doing this is really stupid lol, there's probably better guides online.

Otakon's AMV contest allowed VHS submissions, and I knew I just had to submit the collab I edited with @astravis this way.
Tumblr media
I hope it's clear why!
youtube
(It uses a lot of actual VHS footage.)
And I loved putting AMVs on tape so much that I quickly ordered a bunch of blank tapes online to compile all of my anime music videos this way.
Tumblr media
(Short reel of a few of them.)
And, like, it's definitely far from perfect. My computer doesn't have an HDMI port, so I have to use a converter for that, and it's horrible quality. While that does add to the VHS aesthetic, it also makes some of the subtitles nigh impossible to read (as especially evident in the "First Time" video above). My digitization process also isn't exactly ideal, either.
But popping in a VHS tape of my videos and seeing that on the TV? Absolutely amazing. There is no other way I want to physically compile my AMVs. 10/10. MarshmallowGoop/MarshmallowGoop.
Would like to improve my process someday, but if anyone else is curious about how to make VHS tapes out of videos on your computer, I mostly followed this guide here!

I've been busy converting vhs/8mm tapes to digital and editing them in DaVinci Resolve and trying to figure out which tools to use to make the quality better.
Oh, and I have a new printer so I like editing photos and printing them on nice paper.
In other words, I haven't played ts2 or worked on BVW in a while.
Not on a hiatus or anything. I just have some new hobbies that are taking up my time at the moment.
In case someone's wondering why I'm not posting every day ;)

I feel like I'm constantly grieving. My mom died a few years ago, I feel stuck in that time frame. Shortly after, my dad and I sold the house we owned that my mom was always against selling (it had so many issues and we were in debt because of it). When my mom passed, my dad wanted nothing to do with the house. He sold it wirh 2 weeks to get rid of everything. And by "get rid of everything" I mean he wanted to theow everything away. I was able to save some things such as pictures, diaries of my mom, and some other things. But what I was looking for, were VHS tapes of myself and my family. I've begged my parents since I was 8 to please look at them and get them digitally converted because that was so important to me, but I was never important to them. We never found them because the company we hired to help ended up scamming us and threw everything I couldn't save, away. I remember the breakdown I had because not only did I lose my mom, but now all the memories and what I so desperately wanted, was gone. On top of that, my dad had me call everyone we know and inform them of her death because he didn't want to and didn't think it was important. He also kept me out of her medical state because "only he gets to have control" despite me knowing more about her since I took care of her as a child(he didn't know her blood type for example and she needed a transfusion, she was in a different country than us). My employer at the time also had me work one day after she died. I feel like I can't grieve at all now. I'm stuck in this loop of needing to function all the time, there is no time for me and my emotions. I didn't get to say goodbye before she got put into a coma because the lines were bad. I didn't hear her. My dad had clear lines when he spoke to her. All my stuff at the house was put in the cellar qhere mold gathered so I couldn't save the majority of my old toys, my oldest cuddly toy, etc... because I was just forgotten about. I lived in a different country when we had to move to our house from our apartment. I just feel so fucking worthless and emotionless.
Sorry this is all over the place. Those things take up a lot of space in my mind.
I'm very sorry. Your grief is valid and real and important even if your dad and your job don't make room for it
