Dancer's Delite, hip-hop and contemporary dance program of Farrington High School and Kalākaua Middle School, proudly presents its 8th annual dance concert "CONTROVERSY." Created within the minds of 17 very talented choreographers (16 of whom are 7th through 12th grade students), "CONTROVERSY" takes an artistic look into controversial issues affecting our society today. These issues range from police brutality and transgender restrooms, to immigration and deportation laws; from Colin Kaepernick kneeling during the U.S. National Anthem, to gang violence in our own community of Kalihi; from the Black Lives Matter movement to the LGBTQ+ Community. Each piece was specially created to bring knowledge and awareness, to get our dancers and audience to think, and to stir up a wide array of emotions, as any great piece of art should do. We are learning to be comfortable with being UNcomfortable, for stepping out of our comfort zone is the first step to true growth.
