The CFPB is genuinely making America better, and they're going HARD
Tumblr media
On June 20, I'm keynoting the LOCUS AWARDS in OAKLAND.
Tumblr media
Let's take a sec here and notice something genuinely great happening in the US government: the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau's stunning, unbroken streak of major, muscular victories over the forces of corporate corruption, with the backing of the Supreme Court (yes, that Supreme Court), and which is only speeding up!
A little background. The CFPB was created in 2010. It was Elizabeth Warren's brainchild, an institution that was supposed to regulate finance from the perspective of the American public, not the American finance sector. Rather than fighting to "stabilize" the financial sector (the mission that led to Obama taking his advisor Timothy Geithner's advice to permit the foreclosure crisis to continue in order to "foam the runways" for the banks), the Bureau would fight to defend us from bankers.
The CFPB got off to a rocky start, with challenges to the unique system of long-term leadership appointments meant to depoliticize the office, as well as the sudden resignation of its inaugural boss, who broke his promise to see his term through in order to launch an unsuccessful bid for political office.
But after the 2020 election, the Bureau came into its own, when Biden poached Rohit Chopra from the FTC and put him in charge. Chopra went on a tear, taking on landlords who violated the covid eviction moratorium:
https://pluralistic.net/2021/04/20/euthanize-rentier-enablers/#cfpb
Then banning payday lenders' scummiest tactics:
https://pluralistic.net/2022/01/29/planned-obsolescence/#academic-fraud
Then striking at one of fintech's most predatory grifts, the "earned wage access" hustle:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/05/01/usury/#tech-exceptionalism
Then closing the loophole that let credit reporting bureaus (like Equifax, who doxed every single American in a spectacular 2019 breach) avoid regulation by creating data brokerage divisions and claiming they weren't part of the regulated activity of credit reporting:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/08/16/the-second-best-time-is-now/#the-point-of-a-system-is-what-it-does
Chopra went on to promise to ban data-brokers altogether:
https://pluralistic.net/2024/04/13/goulash/#material-misstatement
Then he banned comparison shopping sites where you go to find the best bank accounts and credit cards from accepting bribes and putting more expensive options at the top of the list. Instead, he's requiring banks to send the CFPB regular, accurate lists of all their charges, and standing up a federal operated comparison shopping site that gives only accurate and honest rankings. Finally, he's made an interoperability rule requiring banks to let you transfer to another institution with one click, just like you change phone carriers. That means you can search an honest site to find the best deal on your banking, and then, with a single click, transfer your accounts, your account history, your payees, and all your other banking data to that new bank:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/10/21/let-my-dollars-go/#personal-financial-data-rights
Somewhere in there, big business got scared. They cooked up a legal theory declaring the CFPB's funding mechanism to be unconstitutional and got the case fast-tracked to the Supreme Court, in a bid to put Chopra and the CFPB permanently out of business. Instead, the Supremes – these Supremes! – upheld the CFPB's funding mechanism in a 7-2 ruling:
https://www.scotusblog.com/2024/05/supreme-court-lets-cfpb-funding-stand/
That ruling was a starter pistol for Chopra and the Bureau. Maybe it seemed like they were taking big swings before, but it turns out all that was just a warmup. Last week on The American Prospect, Robert Kuttner rounded up all the stuff the Bureau is kicking off:
https://prospect.org/blogs-and-newsletters/tap/2024-06-07-window-on-corporate-deceptions/
First: regulating Buy Now, Pay Later companies (think: Klarna) as credit-card companies, with all the requirements for disclosure and interest rate caps dictated by the Truth In Lending Act:
https://www.skadden.com/insights/publications/2024/06/cfpb-applies-credit-card-rules
Next: creating a registry of habitual corporate criminals. This rogues gallery will make it harder for other agencies – like the DOJ – and state Attorneys General to offer bullshit "delayed prosecution agreements" to companies that compulsively rip us off:
https://www.consumerfinance.gov/about-us/newsroom/cfpb-creates-registry-to-detect-corporate-repeat-offenders/
Then there's the rule against "fine print deception" – which is when the fine print in a contract lies to you about your rights, like when a mortgage lender forces you waive a right you can't actually waive, or car lenders that make you waive your bankruptcy rights, which, again, you can't waive:
https://www.consumerfinance.gov/about-us/newsroom/cfpb-warns-against-deception-in-contract-fine-print/
As Kuttner writes, the common thread running through all these orders is that they ban deceptive practices – they make it illegal for companies to steal from us by lying to us. Especially in these dying days of class action suits – rapidly becoming obsolete thanks to "mandatory arbitration waivers" that make you sign away your right to join a class action – agencies like the CFPB are our only hope of punishing companies that lie to us to steal from us.
There's a lot of bad stuff going on in the world right now, and much of it – including an active genocide – is coming from the Biden White House.
But there are people in the Biden Administration who care about the American people and who are effective and committed fighters who have our back. What's more, they're winning. That doesn't make all the bad news go away, but sometimes it feels good to take a moment and take the W.

Gross national product (GNP) GNP is related to another important economic measure called gross domestic product (GDP), which takes into account all output produced within a country's borders regardless of who owns the means of production. GNP starts with GDP, adds residents' investment income from overseas investments, and subtracts foreign residents' investment income earned within a country. Whilst GDP measures the total value of goods and services produced within a country's borders, GNP focuses on the income generated by its residents, regardless of their location.
Gross National Income (GNI) is the total amount of money earned by a nation's people and businesses. It is used to measure and track a nation's wealth from year to year. The number includes the nation's gross domestic product (GDP) plus the income it receives from overseas sources.

Supporting Striker (Inverted Winger)
Central Winger (False 10)
Overlapping Run/Defensive Winger (Half-winger)
An inverted winger is a modern tactical development of the traditional winger position. Most wingers are assigned to either side of the field based on their footedness, with right-footed players on the right and left-footed players on the left.[65] This assumes that assigning a player to their natural side ensures a more powerful cross as well as greater ball protection along the touch-lines. However, when the position is inverted and a winger instead plays inside-out on the opposite flank (i.e., a right-footed player as a left inverted winger), they effectively become supporting strikers and primarily assume a role in the attack.[66]
The "false 10" or "central winger"[55] is a type of midfielder, which differs from the trequartista. Much like the "false 9", their specificity lies in the fact that, although they seemingly play as an attacking midfielder on paper, unlike a traditional playmaker who stays behind the striker in the centre of the pitch, the false 10's goal is to move out of position and drift wide when in possession of the ball to help both the wingers and fullbacks to overload the flanks. This means two problems for the opposing midfielders: either they let the false 10 drift wide, and their presence, along with both the winger and the fullback, creates a three-on-two player advantage out wide; or they follow the false 10, but leave space in the centre of the pitch for wingers or onrushing midfielders to exploit. False 10s are usually traditional wingers who are told to play in the centre of the pitch, and their natural way of playing makes them drift wide and look to provide deliveries into the box for teammates.
In Italian football, the term mezzala (literally "half-winger" in Italian) is used to describe the position of the one or two central midfielders who play on either side of a holding midfielder and/or playmaker. The term was initially applied to the role of an inside forward in the WM and Metodo formations in Italian, but later described a specific type of central midfielder. The mezzala is often a quick and hard-working attack-minded midfielder, with good skills and noted offensive capabilities, as well as a tendency to make overlapping attacking runs, but also a player who participates in the defensive aspect of the game, and who can give width to a team by drifting out wide; as such, the term can be applied to several different roles.
On occasion, the false-10 can also function in a different manner alongside a false-9, usually in a 4–6–0 formation. Midfield collective of False 9, False 10, Box to Box, Holding, Half Winger, Attacking, Defensive. We are not stretching the defensive line itsself, but the space between the defensive line and the goalkeeper.
Thiago Motta’s ‘Super Offensive’ 2-7-2 Formation Explained: Instead of the traditional way of looking at a tactical set-up horizontally, the Brazil-born manager instead split the field into three vertical lanes. This means he effectively has seven players in the central channel with two players out wide on each flank.

Go Go Music Influenced, Eurphoric Trance Chord Progression Melody, Progressive House and Drum n' Bass Percussion-808 Call and Response Staccato Polyrhythm or Layered Kick and Punch 808.
In his 1972 study of French lute music, scholar Wallace Rave compiled a list of features he believed to be characteristic of style brisé. Rave's list included the following: the avoidance of textural pattern and regularity in part writing; arpeggiated chord textures with irregular distribution of individual notes of the chord; ambiguous melodic lines; rhythmic displacement of notes within a melodic line; octave changes within melodic line; irregular phrase lengths.
Have the Snare and Kick say, "Hi, How are you?" And the 808 say, "I am good thanks for asking.”
Use progressive House to push the Drums Conversation to either Fast and Punchy for Happy or Slow and Deep for Sad.
In technical terms, "go-go's essential beat is characterized by a five through four syncopated rhythm that is underscored prominently by the bass drum and snare drum, and the hi-hat... [and] is ornamented by the other percussion instruments, especially by the conga drums, rototoms, and hand-held cowbells."[5]
Polyrhythm: In music, a cross-beat or cross-rhythm is a specific form of polyrhythm. The term cross rhythm was introduced in 1934 by the musicologist Arthur Morris Jones (1889–1980). It refers to a situation where the rhythmic conflict found in polyrhythms is the basis of an entire musical piece.[1]
Four-on-the-floor (or four-to-the-floor) is a rhythm used primarily in dance genres such as disco and electronic dance music. It is a steady, uniformly accented beat in 4. 4 time in which the bass drum is hit on every beat (1, 2, 3, 4).[1] This was popularized in the disco music of the 1970s[2] and the term four-on-the-floor was widely used in that era, since the beat was played with the pedal-operated, drum-kit bass drum.[3][4] (Punch 808-Kick)
Polyrhythm 4 on the Floor examples 2:4 or 5:4
Hard trance is often characterized by strong, hard (or even downpitch) kicks, fully resonant basses and an increased amount of reverberation applied to the main beat. Melodies vary from 140 to 180 BPMs and it can feature plain instrumental sound in early compositions, with the latter ones tending to implement side-chaining techniques of progressive on digital synthesizers.

Commercialism is the application of both manufacturing and consumption towards personal usage, or the practices, methods, aims, and distribution of products in a free market geared toward generating a profit.
Commercial art is art created for advertising or marketing purposes. Commercial artists are hired by clients to create images and logos that sell products. Unlike works of fine art that convey an artist's personal expression, commercial art must address the client's goals.
The word 'Commercial' is defined as follows: Concerned with or engaged in commerce. Commerce is the exchange of goods or services among two or more parties.
Craftsmen are committed to the medium, not to self-expression. Artists are committed to their self-expression, not the medium.
A medium of exchange is an intermediary instrument and system used to facilitate the purchase and sale of goods and services between parties.

Imperialism, the Highest Stage of Capitalism,[1] originally published as Imperialism, the Newest Stage of Capitalism,[2][3] is a book written by Vladimir Lenin in 1916 and published in 1917. It describes the formation of oligopoly, by the interlacing of bank and industrial capital, in order to create a financial oligarchy, and explains the function of financial capital in generating profits from the exploitation colonialism inherent to imperialism, as the final stage of capitalism. The essay synthesises Lenin's developments of Karl Marx's theories of political economy in Das Kapital (1867).[4]

A clay-court specialist is a tennis player who excels on clay courts, more than on any other surface.
Due in part to advances in racquet technology, current clay-court specialists are known for employing long, winding groundstrokes that generate heavy topspin; such strokes are less effective on faster surfaces on which the balls do not bounce as high. Clay-court specialists tend to slide more effectively on clay than other players. Many of them are also very adept at hitting the drop shot, which can be effective because rallies on clay courts often leave players pushed far beyond the baseline. Additionally, the slow, long rallies require a great degree of mental focus and physical stamina.
CASAPIANOS MARTYROLOGY ORDER (CATHOLIC COUNTER-REFORMATION)
The Casa Pia is a Portuguese institution founded by Maria I, known as A Pia ("Mary the Pious"), and organized by Police Intendant Pina Manique in 1780, following the social disarray of the 1755 Lisbon earthquake. For almost three centuries, thousands of young boys and girls were raised by Casa Pia, including many public personalities, called casapianos. Casa Pia is Portugal's largest educational institution dedicated to helping youngsters in risk of social exclusion or without parental support. The organisation is composed of ten schools and enrolls approximately 4700 students. In addition to standard schooling, the organisation also provides boarding for children in need. It strives to enable these youngsters to become healthy and successful members of society, by developing intellectual, manual, and physical traits, in an environment promoting spiritual, moral, and religious values. The institution is proud to have had amongst its students many outstanding Portuguese personalities, including politicians, journalists, and artists. A martyrology is a catalogue or list of martyrs and other saints and beati arranged in the calendar order of their anniversaries or feasts. Local martyrologies record exclusively the custom of a particular Church. Local lists were enriched by names borrowed from neighbouring churches.[1] Consolidation occurred, by the combination of several local martyrologies, with or without borrowings from literary sources.
The Canons Regular of St. Augustine are priests who live in community under a rule (Latin: regula and κανών, kanon, in Greek) and are generally organised into religious orders, differing from both secular canons and other forms of religious life, such as clerics regular, designated by a partly similar terminology. As religious communities, they have laybrothers as part of the community.
Clerics regular are clerics (mostly priests) who are members of a religious order under a rule of life (regular). Clerics regular differ from canons regular in that they devote themselves more to pastoral care, in place of an obligation to the praying of the Liturgy of the Hours in common, and have fewer observances in their rule of life.
Lay brother is a largely extinct term referring to religious brothers, particularly in the Catholic Church, who focused upon manual service and secular matters, and were distinguished from choir monks or friars in that they did not pray in choir, and from clerics, in that they were not in possession of (or preparing for) holy orders.[1][2][3][4][5]
In female religious institutes, the equivalent role is the lay sister. Lay brothers were originally created to allow those who were skilled in particular crafts or did not have the required education to study for holy orders to participate in and contribute to the life of a religious order.
Lay brothers were found in many religious orders. Drawn from the working classes, they were pious and hardworking people, who though unable to achieve the education needed to receive holy orders, were still drawn to religious life and were able to contribute to the order through their skills. Some were skilled in artistic handicrafts, others functioned as administrators of the orders' material assets. In particular, the lay brothers of the Cistercians were skilled in agriculture, and have been credited for the tilling of fertile farmland.[1]
Lay sisters were found in most of the orders of women, and their origin, like that of the lay brothers, is to be found in the necessity of providing the choir nuns with more time for the Office and study, as well as creating the opportunity for the illiterate to join the religious life. They, too, wore a habit different from those of the choir sisters, and their required daily prayers consisted of prayers such as the Little Office or a certain number of Paters.[1]
All canons regular are to be distinguished from secular canons who belong to a resident group of priests but who do not take public vows and are not governed in whatever elements of life they lead in common by a historical rule. One obvious place where such groups of priests are required is at a cathedral, where there were many Masses to celebrate and the Divine Office to be prayed together in community.
In modern astrology, Mars is the primary native ruler of the first house. Traditionally however, Mars ruled both the third and tenth houses, and had its joy in the fifth house. While Venus tends to the overall relationship atmosphere, Mars is the passionate impulse and action, the masculine aspect, discipline, willpower and stamina.
Mars rules over Tuesday and in Romance languages the word for Tuesday often resembles Mars (in Romanian, marți, in Spanish, martes, in French, mardi and in Italian "martedì"). The English "Tuesday" is a modernised form of "Tyr's Day", Tyr being the Germanic analogue to Mars. Dante Alighieri associated Mars with the liberal art of arithmetic. In Chinese astrology, Mars is ruled by the element fire, which is passionate, energetic and adventurous.
According to John Clements, the term martial arts itself is derived from an older Latin term meaning "arts of Mars", the Roman god of war, and was used to refer to the combat systems of Europe (European martial arts) as early as the 1550s
A religious congregation is a type of religious institute in the Catholic Church. They are legally distinguished from religious orders – the other major type of religious institute – in that members take simple vows, whereas members of religious orders take solemn vows.
In the Catholic Church, a religious order is a community of consecrated life with members that profess solemn vows. They are classed as a type of religious institute.[1]

Material religion is a framework used by scholars of religion to examine the interaction between religion and material culture. It focuses on the place of objects, images, spaces, and buildings in religious communities. The framework has been promoted by scholars such as Birgit Meyer, Sally Promey, S. Brent Plate, David Morgan, etc.
Physiocracy (French: physiocratie; from the Greek for "government of nature") is an economic theory developed by a group of 18th-century Age of Enlightenment French economists who believed that the wealth of nations derived solely from the value of "land agriculture" or "land development" and that agricultural products should be highly priced.[1] Their theories originated in France and were most popular during the second half of the 18th century. Physiocracy became one of the first well-developed theories of economics.
The Bible typically describes the Heavenly host as being made up of angels, and gives several descriptions of angels in military terms, such as their encampment (Genesis 32:1–2), command structure (Psalms 91:11–12; Matt.13:41; Rev.7:2), and participation in combat (Job 19:12; Rev.12:7). Other passages indicate other entities make up the divine army, namely stars (Judges 5:20, Isaiah 40:26).[1][full citation needed] In Christian theology, the heavenly host participate in the war in Heaven.
The doctrine or theory of immanence holds that the divine encompasses or is manifested in the material world. It is held by some philosophical and metaphysical theories of divine presence. Immanence is usually applied in monotheistic, pantheistic, pandeistic, or panentheistic faiths to suggest that the spiritual world permeates the mundane.
The Dionysian Mysteries were a ritual of ancient Greece and Rome which sometimes used intoxicants and other trance-inducing techniques (like dance and music) to remove inhibitions and social constraints, liberating the individual to return to a natural state.
Religious nationalism can be understood in a number of ways, such as nationalism as a religion itself, a position articulated by Carlton Hayes in his text Nationalism: A Religion, or as the relationship of nationalism to a particular religious belief, dogma, ideology, or affiliation. This relationship can be broken down into two aspects: the politicisation of religion and the influence of religion on politics.
Dioceses ruled by an archbishop are commonly referred to as archdioceses; most are metropolitan sees, being placed at the head of an ecclesiastical province. In the Catholic Church, some are suffragans of a metropolitan see or are directly subject to the Holy See.
The body of light, sometimes called the 'astral body'[a] or the 'subtle body,'[b] is a "quasi material"[1] aspect of the human body, being neither solely physical nor solely spiritual, posited by a number of philosophers, and elaborated on according to various esoteric, occult, and mystical teachings. Other terms used for this body include body of glory,[2] spirit-body, luciform body, augoeides ('radiant body'), astroeides ('starry or sidereal body'), and celestial body.[3] The concept derives from the philosophy of Plato: the word 'astral' means 'of the stars'; thus the astral plane consists of the Seven Heavens of the classical planets. The idea is rooted in common worldwide religious accounts of the afterlife[4] in which the soul's journey or "ascent" is described in such terms as "an ecstatic, mystical or out-of body experience, wherein the spiritual traveller leaves the physical body and travels in their body of light into 'higher' realms."[5]
The canon law of the Catholic Church (from Latin ius canonicum[1]) is "how the Church organizes and governs herself".[2] It is the system of laws and ecclesiastical legal principles made and enforced by the hierarchical authorities of the Catholic Church to regulate its external organization and government and to order and direct the activities of Catholics toward the mission of the Church.
An institute of consecrated life is an association of faithful in the Catholic Church canonically erected by competent church authorities to enable men or women who publicly profess the evangelical counsels by religious vows or other sacred bonds "through the charity to which these counsels lead to be joined to the Church and its mystery in a special way".[1] They are defined in the 1983 Code of Canon Law under canons 573–730. The Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life has ecclesial oversight of institutes of consecrated life.[2]
In Christianity, the three evangelical counsels, or counsels of perfection, are chastity (NEVER), poverty (or perfect charity), and obedience (RECKLESS ABANDONMENT).[1] As stated by Jesus in the canonical gospels,[2] they are counsels for those who desire to become "perfect" (τελειος, teleios).[3][4] The Catholic Church interprets this to mean that they are not binding upon all, and hence not necessary conditions to attain eternal life (heaven), but that they are "acts of supererogation", "over and above" the minimum stipulated in the biblical commandments.[5][6]
Catholics who have made a public profession to order their lives by the evangelical counsels, and confirmed this by public vows before their competent church authority (the act of religious commitment known as a profession), are recognised as members of the consecrated life.
The Council of Trent (Latin: Concilium Tridentinum), held between 1545 and 1563 in Trent (or Trento), now in northern Italy, was the 19th ecumenical council of the Catholic Church. Prompted by the Protestant Reformation at the time, it has been described as the embodiment of the Counter-Reformation. The Council issued key statements and clarifications of the Church's doctrine and teachings, including scripture, the biblical canon, sacred tradition, original sin, justification, salvation, the sacraments, the Mass, and the veneration of saints[4] and also issued condemnations of what it defined to be heresies committed by proponents of Protestantism. The consequences of the Council were also significant with regard to the Church's liturgy and censorship.
Initiated in part to address the challenges of the Protestant Reformations,[3] the Counter-Reformation was a comprehensive effort arising from the decrees of the Council of Trent. The effort produced apologetic and polemical documents, heresy trials, anti-corruption efforts, spiritual movements, the promotion of new religious orders, and the flourishing of new art and musical styles.
Tradwave is a Catholic artistic style using synthwave and vaporwave art to promote traditional catholicism. Tradwave usually uses traditional catholic paintings, sculptures, or photographs of saints, given with vaporwave effects, often with a bible verse or quote about catholicism. The art usually tries to convey a resurrection of catholic spirituality in the modern atheist world. Figures often depicted in Tradwave art include Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary, Ven. Fulton Sheen, Cardinal Robert Sarah, and Mother Angelica.
Tradwave music often takes the form of two main styles. One of them is catholic hymns with vaporwave effects and traditional Vaporwave/Lo-Fi music. It can also have quotes from modern prolific Catholic figures, such as Ven. The other theme is Fulton Sheen and Cardinal Robert Sarah.
Heavenly Virtues: Another phrase to describe this obedience to the voice is “reckless abandon.” It simply means that we let God do what God wants to do through us. It means if He tells us to do something or say something—we do it.
Intercession or intercessory prayer is the act of praying to a deity on behalf of others, or asking a saint in heaven to pray on behalf of oneself or for others. Intercession of the Saints is a Christian doctrine that maintains that saints can intercede for others. To intercede is to go or come between two parties, to plead before one of them on behalf of the other. In ecclesiastical usage both words are taken in the sense of the intervention primarily of Christ, and secondarily of the Blessed Virgin and the angels and saints, on behalf of men.[2] The doctrine is held by the Catholic, Eastern Orthodox Churches, the Assyrian Church of the East, the Oriental Orthodox churches , and some Lutherans and Anglicans (chiefly those of Evangelical Catholic or Anglo-Catholic churchmanship, respectively).[3] The practice of asking saints for their intercession can be found in Christian writings from the 3rd century onwards.[4][5][6] Catholic doctrine supports intercessory prayer to saints. This practice is an application of the doctrine of the Communion of saints. Some of the early basis for this was the belief that martyrs passed immediately into the presence of God and could obtain graces and blessings for others, which naturally and immediately led to their direct invocation. A further reinforcement was derived from the cult of the angels which, while pre-Christian in its origin, was heartily embraced by the faithful of the sub-Apostolic age. The doctrine of intercession and invocation was set forth by the Council of Trent, which teaches that "... the saints who reign together with Christ offer up their own prayers to God for men. It is good and useful suppliantly to invoke them, and to have recourse to their prayers, aid, and help for obtaining benefits from God, through His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, Who alone is our Redeemer and Saviour".[10] Intercessory prayer to saintly persons who have not yet been beatified can also practiced by individuals, and evidence of miracles produced as a result of such prayer is very commonly produced during the formal process of beatification and canonization.
In short, the gun-toting angel was a multifaceted metaphor. “It undoubtedly also reflected the Catholic Counter-Reformation militaristic rhetoric,” wrote Donahue-Wallace, “which promoted the church as an army and heavenly beings as its soldiers.” These "Harquebusier Angels" or "Arcabuceros" are full-length depictions of winged angels, elaborately dressed, and carrying matchlock guns (harquebuses).
The related term astrolatry usually implies polytheism. In anthropological literature these systems of practice may be referred to as astral cults.
A friar is a member of one of the mendicant orders in the Roman Catholic Church. There are also friars outside of the Roman Catholic Church, such as within the Anglican Communion. The term, first used in the 12th or 13th century, distinguishes the mendicants' itinerant apostolic character, exercised broadly under the jurisdiction of a superior general, from the older monastic orders' allegiance to a single monastery formalized by their vow of stability. A friar may be in holy orders or be a non-ordained brother. The most significant orders of friars are the Dominicans, Franciscans, Augustinians, and Carmelites.[1]
Romans 8:31; Exploring Biblical Imagery is one of the most important keys to interpreting and gaining a deeper understanding of the Bible. The Bible often communicates truth to us through images and patterns.
Throughout history, armed priests or soldier priests have been recorded. Distinguished from military chaplains, who are non-combatants that provided spiritual guidance to service personnel and associated civilians, these priests took up arms and fought in conflicts as combatants. The term warrior priests or war priests is usually used for armed priests in Antiquity and the Middle Ages, and of historical tribes.
Slang: In Romans 8:5-8, Paul presents a compelling contrast between living according to the flesh and living according to the Spirit. The flesh, with its disordered desires and rebellion against God, leads only to spiritual desolation. Martyr, one who voluntarily suffers death rather than deny their religion by words or deeds; such action is afforded special, institutionalized recognition in most major religions of the world. The term may also refer to anyone who sacrifices their life or something of great value for the sake of principle. A religious allusion is a brief reference to a person, event, place, or phrase from religious texts or traditions, without describing them in detail. 5 Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. 6 The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. 7 The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. 8 Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God. Martyr/Romans 8 Allusion Slang.
Romeu e Julieta (Casapianos Order 1996 Adaptation 18+ Romance Thriller)
While it retains the original Shakespearean dialogue, the film represents the Montagues and the Capulets as warring mafia empires (with legitimate business fronts) and the Capulets were "a Latin family, sort of,"[15] played by Latin-American and Italian actors.[16] It is set in contemporary United States, where swords are replaced by guns[17] (with model names such as "Dagger", "Sword", and "Rapier"), and with a FedEx-style overnight delivery service called "Post Haste".[18] Shakespeare and Impure Aesthetics explores ideas about art implicit in Shakespeare's plays and defines specific Shakespearean aesthetic practices in his use of desire, death and mourning as resources for art. In fiction, a subplot or side story is a secondary strand of the plot that is a supporting side story for any story or for the main plot. Subplots may connect to main plots, in either time and place or thematic significance. Subplots often involve supporting characters, those besides the protagonist or antagonist. Subplots may also intertwine with the main plot at some point in a story.[1]
THE ENCYCLICAL PASSIONARIES ABOUT YHVH CASAPIANOS
Specifically, the royal psalms deal with the spiritual role of kings in the worship of Yahweh. Aside from that single qualification, there is nothing else which specifically links the ten psalms. Each of the psalms make explicit references to their subject, the king. Royal (messianic) psalms deal with the king as God's anointed or chosen one. Many are prayers for the wisdom of the king, his long life or success in battle. Some are prophetic in nature in that they also point to the ideal future king, the Messiah or the King of kings. Simple martyrologies only enumerate names. Historical martyrologies, also sometimes called passionaries, also include stories or biographical details. (Reckless Abandonment; Mars Shamanism and Casa Pia Wing Transfer Invocation)
In the martyrdom narrative of the remembering community, this refusal to comply with the presented demands results in the punishment or execution of an individual by an oppressor. Accordingly, the status of the 'martyr' can be considered a posthumous title as a reward for those who are considered worthy of the concept of martyrdom by the living, regardless of any attempts by the deceased to control how they will be remembered in advance.[1] Insofar, the martyr is a relational figure of a society's boundary work that is produced by collective memory.[2] Originally applied only to those who suffered for their religious beliefs, the term has come to be used in connection with people killed for a political cause. (Armed Friars and The War for Central Africa between Casapianos and The French; The Fall of Yoruba for Bembé; Arcubusier Angels in Africa)
The Metal Ages is a term for the period of human civilization beginning about 6,000 years ago during which metallurgy rapidly advanced, and human populations started using metals such as copper, tin, bronze and finally iron to make tools and weapons. By heating and shaping metals in hot furnaces, humanity also learned to use precious metals such as gold and silver to make intricate ornaments.[1][2] With these technological adaptions, human society became more productive and human settlements became larger and more prosperous, but also more violent.[3] The Metal Ages are divided into three stages: the Copper Age, the Bronze Age, and the Iron Age.[1][2] (Calcium Age of Angola)

1000 days of covid.... a reflection... what do you remember?
If I asked many of the memory of covid, it would be toilet paper shortages, the media call to treat nurses and doctors as heroes, lockdowns and social isolation. But there's more, though....
Tumblr media
The picture above is of a near bare row of supermarket shelves, with only a few rolls of toilet paper.
My own memories, in general terms, would be:
The curious spread of this flu variant through China and its neighbouring countries. (Via media reports. Plus its rapid rise up the priority reading list for the broadcast reader/ reporter/ news team)
The slow response of most governments to the emerging cases (easy with hindsight)
The tourist ship Ruby Princess docking with (eventually a total of) 22 cases on board, docking in Sydney. No quarantine controls enforced effectively at that point in time. (And Covid had been a thing well reported)
The toilet paper shortages, followed by shortages of pasta, rice, disinfectant and other staple foods from shelves. Never seen so many bare shelves before, except in news reports where people cleaned out stores in the face of cyclones or snow storms.
The growing weirdness of still going to work when others were getting government pay to stay at home. Apart from the driver, there'd be 2 other people on the bus in.
Add in the loneliness and the ghost town feeling of walking through an empty city. Except for the essential food services, so kids could still get you your order of coffee and mcbreakfast.... odd contrast, you'd agree.
Oh, the anger and entitlement of the covid deniers and anti-maskers.
My father in law complained about mask wearing on a flight down from Queensland to visit us. While my wife, a nurse, is donning full personal protective equipment (PPE) to help with patients. He's not entitled, just an oblivious, selfish idiot.
A bit of resentment at those who got the payments to not work, while I was an essential worker, in the finance sector had to work through. Discussing insurance with customers. All of them wanting discounts for (multitude of self justified reasons). That was tiring...
On the 'others staying home' a lot of people were making bread, trying new hobbies, going back to old hobbies, riding bikes to get fit... that only seemed to last 2 months, then it was easier to watch digitally streamed shows...
Oh, the growing gap between those who could afford the digital upgrade to work and/or study from home. And those that couldn't... that gap is bigger, and will show up in a decade or so...
Travel? Yeah, we'd travel from the couch to the kitchen table, work, then we'd travel to the letterbox and then to the couch again. On weekends, some of us would travel to the shed, to mow the lawns as part of the outside world travel.
Then the acceptance, as we waited for the vaccine to be made. Too late for too many in China, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom....
The USA being the most vocal of the anti-maskers and covid deniers. Because of Trump and his idiot approach to the crisis and his vanity.
A few covid conspiracy people I have spoken to, and seen the marches. I don't have time for dealing with these kind of people. Got used to being able to distance myself pretty quickly.
Overall though, I've become a bit more self directed towards entertaining myself (books and going back to the scale hobby of modelling) and fed up with a big insurance company making lots of profit while increasing the consumers insurance bill by about 20% average per year...
And remote studying has become a lonely grind. I am succeeding in my course so far.
Overall, post vaccine roll-out, we've adapted.
It's gone from being "the Chinese flu" (a pejorative term) to the "spicy cough".
So far, I have remained covid free.
And I have science, medicine and society to thank for that.
23 December 2022.
1000 days of covid.
@bundibird @scrapironflotilla thanks for just engaging with this little effort (it will continue)
@tafkarfanfic @bouncinghedgehog your posts helped with hope and morale when things were tough.
I'd invite you to reblog and share your memories, no matter where in the world you are.

Unit 10 Blog – Nature Interpretation: Personal Ethics & Beliefs
In our final concluding blog for this course, I find myself going back to the beginning, not the beginning of the course, but to what started me on my decision a year ago to take time off from a career in finance, to study environmental science at this university. Having worked in corporations for over 27 years, I have seen first-hand, how difficult it is to convince executive leads, board members and shareholders on the relevance and urgent need to become more sustainable, to care about the environment. Especially, when at times, I helped model the trade-offs of investment in other competing initiatives, with far higher immediate returns. During that time, we have come a long way, and many of those same companies now have ESG strategies (Environment, Social, Governance), and have even hired small teams to lead the way forward in becoming more sustainable. At the same time, many of those corporations have grown 5-10 fold or more, the growth of these companies, along with the emissions, waste, resource use and pollution generated, cannot be covered off with their new (at times) tepid sustainability goals. Now…these companies are not solely to blame, there is a demand fueled by population growth, global world development, and by increased consumerism in developed countries.
My reason for studying environmental science, is the same fuel for my personal ethic: More is needed, and until we change the minds of governments and corporations, and most importantly, the voters, consumers, employees, and shareholders, we will not succeed. My personal ethic is this: We all have a responsibility to learn, to teach, to engage others to see the scientific truth about our world and we are running out of time. To do this, we need to engage humankind to understand why it is important to protect nature, and why nature is so important to all species. Tim Merriman writes, "We still need to help the world’s decision-makers understand the vital importance of the effects we have on the Earth’s atmosphere and ocean, and we must continue to help all people understand how individual behavior contributes to both the problems and the solutions.” (Beck, at al., 2018, pg. 459) As per the Stockholm Resilience Center, we have the left the safe operating zone for 6 out of 9 of our planetary boundaries. (Stockholm Resilience Center, 2023). When I read this a year ago, I was shocked, and panicked and felt helpless against this. At the time, however, I did not understand how much is being done by so many globally to reverse the tide. I had heard about the Paris Climate Accord, and although a positive step, it was not going to be nearly enough. At that point, I hung my head thinking once again, politicians are going to get this wrong. In November 22, under COP-27 (The 27th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change), more was done, and funds committed to help vulnerable nations as they become the first to feel the ravages of climate change. I am more hopeful, and I believe that the world has woken up to climate change. However, there is still much to do and to turn the tides of public neglect, disregard, or negation of the seriousness of the situation, we must not only open their hearts but also create a path of possibility that has us all believing that we can make a difference and that we can bring our home back from the brink.

Nature Interpretation for me, is one path to bring people into nature, with a feeling of safety. To let them see and appreciate not only the peace, beauty, and awe of it, but to understand the importance of it and the threats to it. This would be my focus or first responsibility in interpretation. To do this, it is also an interpreter’s responsibility to know the subject matter, and to engage the audience, while ensuring that everyone’s needs and pre-existing beliefs are considered. Nature must be inclusive, to be reflective of the world we live in. Richard Louv writes, "Interpretation enriches experiences, advances physical and mental health, benefits the environment, promotes cultural   heritage, enhances community welfare, and recognizes the importance of diversity, equality, sustainability, science, and truth" (Beck et. al, 2018, pg. 476).
My approach would be to balance between finding ways to engage through humour, fun, and instilling a sense of adventure, but tempering that with the goal to engage children and adults to understand the importance of giving back. In Chapter 21 of our text, there were many examples of how we can become more involved even just in a small way, by understanding our own localities. Enos Mills wrote, “"A nature guide in every locality who, around his home or in the nearest park could show with fitting stories the wild places, birds, flowers, and animals, would add to the enjoyment of everyone who lives in the region or who visits it.” (Beck et al., 2018, pg. 458).
In listening to the interview with Richard Louv and David Suzuki at the AGO, a few other thoughts were enforced. One, many people, by choice or circumstance have become very disconnected from the natural world, seldom leaving the comfort of their homes and screens. To reach these people, more must be done to build urban parks, or reach out through technology to get their attention to get out and “smell the roses”. Two, as David Suzuki said, we have really become time machines (and not in a good way), we control our time slots and fill them up, but that is not natural. As he speaks, “Nature needs time to reveal her secrets.” He speaks to the need to just spend time, whatever time watching and immersing ourselves. I think a disconnect from nature hurts humans, we need nature to remind us of where we came from, we need nature to help us rebalance and breathe. We need nature to feel awe, to really be inspired.
In closing, I go back to the beginning, we must appreciate the home we have, and live with an eco-centric mind set, while understanding, that we have a job to do to keep our home for future generations. Stan Lee in Spider Man wrote, “With great power, comes great responsibility”.

Cryptocurrencies: Catalysing Financial Freedom in Scotland
Exploring the Role of Cryptocurrencies in Enhancing Financial Freedom in Scotland Hello, dear readers! Today on "Perspectives Unbound," we delve into an increasingly pertinent topic: the impact of cryptocurrencies on financial freedom, particularly within Scotland. As digital currencies become more intertwined with daily transactions, understanding their role in economic landscapes is crucial. Cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, offer a paradigm shift from traditional banking systems. They provide a decentralized platform for transactions, which means they operate without the centralised control of banks or governments. This decentralisation not only enhances transaction efficiency but also offers a level of privacy and freedom from institutional oversight that many find appealing. In Scotland, where financial innovation has a deep history, from the establishment of the Bank of Scotland in 1695 to pioneering the first overdraft facility, cryptocurrencies could be the next frontier in financial innovation. They offer Scottish businesses and consumers new ways to engage in global commerce without the constraints of conventional financial infrastructures, potentially reducing costs and opening up international markets. However, the adoption of cryptocurrencies also carries significant implications for regulatory frameworks and financial stability. The volatility of digital currencies poses risks to investors, and the lack of a central regulatory body raises concerns about security and fraud. Therefore, fostering a regulatory environment that protects consumers while encouraging innovation is imperative for Scotland. Moreover, cryptocurrencies could play an essential role in expanding financial inclusion. For individuals who are underserved by traditional banking facilities, digital currencies provide an opportunity to engage in financial activities, such as saving, investing, and transacting at a global level, thus promoting broader economic participation. Scotland's approach to harnessing the benefits of cryptocurrencies while mitigating the risks involves promoting comprehensive financial literacy programs that encompass digital finance. Educating the public about the potential and pitfalls of cryptocurrencies will be crucial in fostering an environment where digital currencies can contribute positively to financial freedom and economic prosperity. Engaging with cryptocurrencies is more than just about adopting new technology—it's about rethinking the future of financial systems and economic freedom. As Scotland explores this digital finance landscape, the conversation around cryptocurrencies must continue to evolve, ensuring inclusive and informed participation across the board. Thank you for joining today’s exploration of cryptocurrencies and their potential impact on Scotland's economic freedom. Warm regards, Alastair Majury *Perspectives Unbound* --- *Stay tuned to Perspectives Unbound for more insights on how technological advancements are shaping economic freedoms globally and in Scotland.*

Understanding GAAP: Its Evolution, Importance, and Benefits
Introduction to GAAP The Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) form the foundation of standardized accounting practices in the United States and are essential for ensuring consistency, reliability, and transparency in financial reporting. GAAP is critical for both businesses and individual consumers who rely on accurate financial information to make informed decisions. This blog will explore some well-known facts about GAAP, its history and evolution, reasons it benefits consumers, and why it has been adopted as the best practice in the business world.
When Did GAAP Become Mainstream? GAAP was officially established in 1939 when the American Institute of Accountants (now known as the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, or AICPA) created the Committee on Accounting Procedure (CAP) to standardize accounting principles. The roots of GAAP, however, can be traced back even further. The Great Depression in the 1930s exposed the need for greater transparency in financial reporting, as financial mismanagement and lack of standardized practices had contributed to widespread economic instability. To prevent similar issues in the future, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) was formed in 1934, mandating that public companies report their financials following standardized principles. This initiative laid the groundwork for GAAP, which gained full traction in the 1970s when the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) took over the responsibility of establishing and updating GAAP standards.
How Has GAAP Changed Over the Years? Since its inception, GAAP has evolved to keep up with the complexities of modern business. GAAP is now governed by a structured set of principles overseen by FASB, which regularly revises the standards to meet new economic realities. Some major updates include:
Fair Value Accounting: In response to the 2008 financial crisis, GAAP introduced fair value accounting, which allows assets to be reported based on their current market value rather than historical cost. This change was intended to provide a clearer picture of a company's financial health.
Revenue Recognition Standards: In 2014, FASB and the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) jointly developed a revenue recognition model under GAAP, focusing on when companies should record revenue. This update aimed to standardize how businesses recognize revenue from contracts, providing more consistency and comparability across industries.
Leasing Standards: The 2019 changes in leasing standards were designed to provide more transparency around companies’ leasing obligations. Now, companies must recognize leases on their balance sheets, offering investors a clearer view of potential financial liabilities.
Goodwill Impairment Testing: Previously, companies were required to test goodwill for impairment annually. GAAP was updated to make this process more streamlined and manageable, simplifying reporting requirements for companies and improving the accuracy of valuations.
Why is GAAP Good for the Average Consumer? GAAP offers several benefits to the average consumer, especially those who are investors, creditors, or stakeholders in a company:
Increased Transparency and Trust: GAAP principles ensure that companies present accurate and consistent financial information. For consumers and investors, this transparency reduces the risk of financial misrepresentation. Reliable financial information empowers consumers to make informed decisions about investing in companies or purchasing products from businesses with healthy finances.
Comparability Across Companies: GAAP standardizes financial reporting, making it easier for consumers to compare the financial health of different companies. This comparability helps consumers understand which companies manage their finances well and make informed choices.
Protecting Consumer Interests: By enforcing standardized reporting, GAAP prevents companies from inflating earnings or hiding losses. This protection benefits consumers by reducing the likelihood of accounting scandals, which often have a ripple effect on the economy and consumer confidence. Enron and WorldCom are notable examples where lack of compliance with GAAP led to major financial crises.
Enhanced Financial Literacy: GAAP provides a clear and structured method for reporting financial information, which has, over time, helped improve the public’s understanding of financial matters. This benefit extends to average consumers, many of whom may never directly interact with GAAP but benefit indirectly from clearer, easier-to-understand financial statements.
Why GAAP is Adopted as Best Practice in Business Several reasons contribute to GAAP’s acceptance as the gold standard in business accounting:
Regulatory Compliance: Publicly traded companies in the U.S. are required to follow GAAP. The SEC mandates that companies use GAAP to ensure accurate reporting. Compliance with GAAP is not optional for companies that want to maintain their credibility and avoid legal repercussions.
Investor Confidence: GAAP ensures that financial statements are reliable and credible, which is crucial for attracting investors. Investors need assurances that companies report financials transparently, and GAAP provides that assurance by setting clear standards and guidelines.
International Standardization Efforts: Although GAAP is specific to the U.S., its principles align closely with international standards set by the IASB under the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). This alignment is beneficial for multinational corporations, as it allows for a more seamless integration of financial reports across borders, thus promoting global business.
Improving Financial Discipline: GAAP serves as a guideline that encourages businesses to adhere to ethical practices and financial discipline. By enforcing a clear framework, companies are less likely to engage in deceptive practices, as they must disclose material information in accordance with standardized principles.
Risk Reduction for Stakeholders: Companies that adhere to GAAP are less likely to experience volatile financial fluctuations because they must consistently report liabilities, assets, and revenue. This stability protects various stakeholders—employees, customers, and suppliers—who are all affected by a company's financial health.
Challenges and Limitations of GAAP While GAAP offers significant benefits, it’s not without its challenges. The complexity of GAAP can be overwhelming for small businesses, which may not have the resources to maintain detailed compliance. Additionally, GAAP’s historical cost principle, while ensuring consistency, may sometimes not reflect current market realities, especially in volatile industries where asset values fluctuate frequently. Nevertheless, these limitations are generally outweighed by the benefits GAAP offers in terms of clarity, comparability, and reliability.
The Future of GAAP As technology and global markets evolve, GAAP continues to adapt. Ongoing collaborations between FASB and the IASB aim to close gaps between GAAP and IFRS, promoting a more unified global approach to accounting standards. Additionally, advancements in technology, such as blockchain and artificial intelligence, may further impact how companies report financials, leading to possible updates in GAAP guidelines to incorporate these technologies.
Conclusion GAAP has come a long way since its early beginnings in the 1930s, evolving to meet the needs of a rapidly changing business environment. Its principles of transparency, comparability, and accountability have solidified it as the best practice for financial reporting in the United States. For the average consumer, GAAP provides greater protection and trust, ensuring that financial statements are not only accessible but also accurate. For businesses, adherence to GAAP strengthens credibility, builds investor confidence, and encourages sound financial management. As GAAP continues to evolve, it remains a critical element in promoting economic stability and fostering trust in financial systems.

David Lee, COO of WEBTOON Entertainment – Interview Series
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/david-lee-coo-of-webtoon-entertainment-interview-series/
David Lee, COO of WEBTOON Entertainment – Interview Series
David J. Lee is Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for WEBTOON Entertainment, where he oversees global corporate, financial and operations teams for WEBTOON, Wattpad, and Wattpad WEBTOON Studios. Mr. Lee is also serving on the boards of WEBTOON Entertainment. A seasoned consumer and technology industry executive, he brings over 25 years of experience across a variety of finance leadership roles.
Prior to WEBTOON, David was the CEO of Inevitable Tech while serving on public company boards for AppHarvest, Benson Hill, and Zevia. Previously, he was the COO & CFO of Impossible Foods, where he successfully led the company’s launch of the Impossible Burger and its nationwide distribution.
WEBTOON is the world’s largest digital comics platform, home to some of the biggest artists, IP, and fandoms in comics. As the global leader and pioneer of the mobile webcomic format, WEBTOON has revolutionized the comics industry for comic fans and creators. Today, a diverse new generation of international comic artists have found a home on WEBTOON, where the company’s storytelling technology allows anyone to become a creator and build a global audience for their stories.
How does WEBTOON approach the ethical development of AI, particularly in light of concerns from artists about AI potentially replacing human creativity?
At WEBTOON, our approach to AI is centered around enhancing, not replacing, human creativity. Creators are at the center of everything we do – their success is our success. As a result, it’s crucial that we prioritize ethical AI development to ensure our tools support creators without undermining their artistic vision or livelihood. We use AI to boost productivity, enhance creativity and safeguard creators’ work. With over 24 million creators globally, our mission is to democratize storytelling and help Creators make money, not automate the creative process.
Can you elaborate on how tools like Shaper and Constella are designed to assist creators without compromising their artistic integrity? What specific feedback from creators led to the development of these tools?
First off, these are tools still in development. When we’re building new technology to support the creative process, it’s important that we take our time, consult with creators, and understand how these innovations can actually make their lives easier.
Like all of our tools, Shaper and Constella were built with a creator-first mindset. We know that our creators dedicate tremendous amounts of time to making webcomics for readers to enjoy, and these tools can help streamline their process, without compromising the unique artistic style of each creator. For example, many of our creators have indicated that their greatest pain point is the repetitive sketching involved in serialized content, like when a character changes a pose or clothing and the artist needs to start the sketch from scratch. While still in the testing phase, Shaper allows creators to build 3D character models in order to change a character’s poses seamlessly and without the need to sketch each pose. Another experimental product, Constella, powered by proprietary AI technology, will allow conversion of these 3D character models in various poses to natural looking 2D characters in the creator’s own drawing style. Used together, creators can significantly reduce drawing time compared to manual methods.  And as creators are free-up from some of the labor intensive tasks that go into creating a webcomic, we’re empowering them to spend more time storytelling and creating the rich and unique worlds that readers  love.
With AI being increasingly integrated into creative workflows, how does WEBTOON ensure that artists’ intellectual property is protected, especially in the context of AI-generated content?
Protecting creators’ IP is one of our top priorities. Our AI-powered anti-piracy tool, Toon Radar, actively combats unauthorized use of our creators’ work by embedding invisible user identification data into webcomic images to help block illegal uploads. In addition to our AI-powered anti-piracy work on the platform, we also led the charge in fighting piracy in 2024, taking legal action against pirate sites all over the world.
How are WEBTOON’s AI models trained? Are there measures in place to ensure that the AI tools don’t inadvertently use art or content from creators without consent?
This is a great question and really gets to the core of our ethical and Creator-centric approach to innovation. We’ve trained our AI models using data sets that are in the public domain or licensed under creative common licenses. As a matter of company policy, we do not use WEBTOON titles to train our AI models without creator consent. It’s also important to note that we do not sell any user or content data to third parties to train AI models.
How do you see AI evolving in the creative industry? Do you envision AI eventually becoming an indispensable tool for artists, or are there concerns about it reducing the need for human input?
There’s a long history of technology changing how people create. It wasn’t that long ago that comic artists did all of their work on paper pages. But today most artists use some sort of digital sketching tool.
We think about that kind of technological evolution when we’re building new tools. Art and human imaginative creation and storytelling are why we exist as a company. Our founder Junkoo Kim started WEBTOON because he is a passionate lifelong fan of comic art and artists. So anything we do is going to support those things: we’re here to help people make and share incredible art.
But it’s also clear that AI is going to have a major impact on every industry – and how companies approach AI will be seen as a choice between using this technology to diminish or uplift creative communities. While technology may be able to support certain repetitive or time-sensitive tasks, the heart of creation – storytelling, originality, and a webcomic creators’ artists style – will always come from humans. At WEBTOON, our goal is to ensure that we’re investing in AI technology that supports creators, while keeping the creative process firmly in their hands.
With tools like Shaper and Constella reducing drawing time, how does WEBTOON maintain a balance between improving efficiency for artists and preserving the uniqueness of their work?
This is an important issue for us and for all Creative Industries. A comic is an enormous amount of work, and it’s hard to truly understand what goes into a page. A reader sees a few panels, some dialogue, and beautiful images. But all of that takes a lot of time and effort! Coloring is a task unto itself in making comics. That beautiful page exploding with color doesn’t just happen. It’s a long, precise, and deliberate process. If we can help make that process easier for a Creator and reduce time spent, that’s a win.
This is the kind of mindset we bring to all of our innovations. In fact, we are currently experimenting with an AI Painter Tool, that is aimed at reducing coloring time. All of our innovations are about providing tools that can make a creator’s life easier, so it can be easier for artists to make art and tell stories. Shaper and Constella support in similar ways, making creators’ processes easier and reducing how much time they spend on different parts of their storytelling.
In what ways do you believe AI can help artists push the boundaries of their creativity? Can you share examples where AI has already led to unexpected artistic innovations?
That’s really not how we think about AI. Artists already make universes with their work. We host millions of comics on our platform and the creativity I’ve seen is boundless. Creativity doesn’t need AI to help it push boundaries, and we leave art to artists.
But AI and technology can support an artist’s process, and that’s where we can be helpful. If we can help an artist reduce the amount of time they have to spend on a part of their work that feels like work, that’s a great outcome and use case for AI and the approach we’re taking at WEBTOON.
Beyond Shaper and Constella, how do you see AI shaping the future of WEBTOON’s platform and the wider creative industry? Are there any upcoming AI initiatives you can share?
Beyond creator productivity, we know that AI is going to play a big role in the future of content discovery. WEBTOON continues to invest in this area and we recently launched a new version of our AI-powered content recommendation model in Korea, which notably increased user engagement in the months following its release. Higher reader engagement helps artists thrive, receive widespread support, and make a living doing what they love. Using AI to reach interested fans in better ways also helps build fan communities and, potentially, opens doors to other adaptations on Netflix, etc.
With AI continuing to advance, many artists are concerned about being replaced or their work being stolen. How does WEBTOON plan to address these concerns and foster a collaborative relationship between technology and creators?
All over the creative industries, artists are concerned about misuse and theft of their intellectual property. And like TV, film, and other creative industries, as webcomics have grown in popularity, so has piracy online. Webcomics take significant amounts of time and dedication to produce, so it is incredibly disheartening when those materials are stolen at the artist’s expense. We have always been committed to safeguarding artists’ rights, which includes stringent policies and technological solutions – like Toon Radar –  that actively combats unauthorized use of our creators’ work.
To foster collaboration, we see AI as a tool for our artists, not a replacement. AI can take on repetitive tasks or help streamline production processes, allowing creators to focus on what truly matters—their unique storytelling and artistic voice. By providing AI tools that assist with tasks like scene generation, colorization, or even interactive content development, we aim to give creators more time to innovate and push the boundaries of their craft.
Ultimately, our goal is to build a future where technology enhances creativity, with creators firmly in control of their artistic vision, and AI as an enabler of new possibilities rather than a threat.
Thank you for the great interview, readers who wish to learn more should visit WEBTOON.

The surveillance advertising to financial fraud pipeline
Tumblr media
Monday (October 2), I'll be in Boise to host an event with VE Schwab. On October 7–8, I'm in Milan to keynote Wired Nextfest.
Tumblr media
Being watched sucks. Of all the parenting mistakes I've made, none haunt me more than the times my daughter caught me watching her while she was learning to do something, discovered she was being observed in a vulnerable moment, and abandoned her attempt:
https://www.theguardian.com/technology/blog/2014/may/09/cybersecurity-begins-with-integrity-not-surveillance
It's hard to be your authentic self while you're under surveillance. For that reason alone, the rise and rise of the surveillance industry – an unholy public-private partnership between cops, spooks, and ad-tech scum – is a plague on humanity and a scourge on the Earth:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/08/16/the-second-best-time-is-now/#the-point-of-a-system-is-what-it-does
But beyond the psychic damage surveillance metes out, there are immediate, concrete ways in which surveillance brings us to harm. Ad-tech follows us into abortion clinics and then sells the info to the cops back home in the forced birth states run by Handmaid's Tale LARPers:
https://pluralistic.net/2022/06/29/no-i-in-uter-us/#egged-on
And even if you have the good fortune to live in a state whose motto isn't "There's no 'I" in uter-US," ad-tech also lets anti-abortion propagandists trick you into visiting fake "clinics" who defraud you into giving birth by running out the clock on terminating your pregnancy:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/06/15/paid-medical-disinformation/#crisis-pregnancy-centers
The commercial surveillance industry fuels SWATting, where sociopaths who don't like your internet opinions or are steamed because you beat them at Call of Duty trick the cops into thinking that there's an "active shooter" at your house, provoking the kind of American policing autoimmune reaction that can get you killed:
https://www.cnn.com/2019/09/14/us/swatting-sentence-casey-viner/index.html
There's just a lot of ways that compiling deep, nonconsensual, population-scale surveillance dossiers can bring safety and financial harm to the unwilling subjects of our experiment in digital spying. The wave of "business email compromises" (the infosec term for impersonating your boss to you and tricking you into cleaning out the company bank accounts)? They start with spear phishing, a phishing attack that uses personal information – bought from commercial sources or ganked from leaks – to craft a virtual Big Store con:
https://www.fbi.gov/how-we-can-help-you/safety-resources/scams-and-safety/common-scams-and-crimes/business-email-compromise
It's not just spear-phishers. There are plenty of financial predators who run petty grifts – stock swindles, identity theft, and other petty cons. These scams depend on commercial surveillance, both to target victims (e.g. buying Facebook ads targeting people struggling with medical debt and worried about losing their homes) and to run the con itself (by getting the information needed to pull of a successful identity theft).
In "Consumer Surveillance and Financial Fraud," a new National Bureau of Academic Research paper, a trio of business-school profs – Bo Bian (UBC), Michaela Pagel (WUSTL) and Huan Tang (Wharton) quantify the commercial surveillance industry's relationship to finance crimes:
https://www.nber.org/papers/w31692
The authors take advantage of a time-series of ZIP-code-accurate fraud complaint data from the Consumer Finance Protection Board, supplemented by complaints from the FTC, along with Apple's rollout of App Tracking Transparency, a change to app-based tracking on Apple mobile devices that turned of third-party commercial surveillance unless users explicitly opted into being spied on. More than 96% of Apple users blocked spying:
https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2021/05/96-of-us-users-opt-out-of-app-tracking-in-ios-14-5-analytics-find/
In other words, they were able to see, neighborhood by neighborhood, what happened to financial fraud when users were able to block commercial surveillance.
What happened is, fraud plunged. Deprived of the raw material for committing fraud, criminals were substantially hampered in their ability to steal from internet users.
While this is something that security professionals have understood for years, this study puts some empirical spine into the large corpus of qualitative accounts of the surveillance-to-fraud pipeline.
As the authors note in their conclusion, this analysis is timely. Google has just rolled out a new surveillance system, the deceptively named "Privacy Sandbox," that every Chrome user is being opted in to unless they find and untick three separate preference tickboxes. You should find and untick these boxes:
https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2023/09/how-turn-googles-privacy-sandbox-ad-tracking-and-why-you-should
Google has spun, lied and bullied Privacy Sandbox into existence; whenever this program draws enough fire, they rename it (it used to be called FLoC). But as the Apple example showed, no one wants to be spied on – that's why Google makes you find and untick three boxes to opt out of this new form of surveillance.
There is no consensual basis for mass commercial surveillance. The story that "people don't mind ads so long as they're relevant" is a lie. But even if it was true, it wouldn't be enough, because beyond the harms to being our authentic selves that come from the knowledge that we're being observed, surveillance data is a crucial ingredient for all kinds of crime, harassment, and deception.
We can't rely on companies to spy on us responsibly. Apple may have blocked third-party app spying, but they effect nonconsensual, continuous surveillance of every Apple mobile device user, and lie about it:
https://pluralistic.net/2022/11/14/luxury-surveillance/#liar-liar
That's why we should ban commercial surveillance. We should outlaw surveillance advertising. Period:
https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2022/03/ban-online-behavioral-advertising
Contrary to the claims of surveillance profiteers, this wouldn't reduce the income to ad-supported news and other media – it would increase their revenues, by letting them place ads without relying on the surveillance troves assembled by the Google/Meta ad-tech duopoly, who take the majority of ad-revenue:
https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2023/05/save-news-we-must-ban-surveillance-advertising
We're 30 years into the commercial surveillance pandemic and Congress still hasn't passed a federal privacy law with a private right of action. But other agencies aren't waiting for Congress. The FTC and DoJ Antitrust Divsision have proposed new merger guidelines that allow regulators to consider privacy harms when companies merge:
https://www.regulations.gov/comment/FTC-2023-0043-1569
Think here of how Google devoured Fitbit and claimed massive troves of extremely personal data, much of which was collected because employers required workers to wear biometric trackers to get the best deal on health care:
https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2020/04/google-fitbit-merger-would-cement-googles-data-empire
Companies can't be trusted to collect, retain or use our personal data wisely. The right "balance" here is to simply ban that collection, without an explicit opt-in. The way this should work is that companies can't collect private data unless users hunt down and untick three "don't spy on me" boxes. After all, that's the standard that Google has set.

Implementing ESG: A Strategic Path to Sustainable Success
The ESG Pillars and Their Impact
Environmental Responsibility At its core, the "E" in ESG emphasizes reducing environmental impact through energy efficiency, waste management, and sustainable sourcing. For businesses, implementing green practices isn’t only about minimizing carbon footprints but also about meeting regulatory compliance and enhancing operational efficiency. These actions resonate with eco-conscious consumers, attract investors focused on sustainability, and reduce long-term operational risks.
Social Engagement The “S” in ESG focuses on the people—employees, communities, and society at large. Businesses that prioritize social responsibility cultivate a positive corporate culture, promote diversity and inclusion, and uphold ethical practices. This includes providing safe working conditions, supporting local communities, and ensuring a fair supply chain. Strong social commitments boost employee morale, foster customer loyalty, and contribute to a company’s positive reputation in the public eye.
Governance for Accountability Governance, the "G" in ESG, refers to the internal practices that guide corporate decision-making, transparency, and accountability. Sound governance ensures compliance with regulations, ethical business practices, and the protection of shareholders’ rights. Governance practices may include transparent reporting, independent board oversight, and executive accountability. This element strengthens trust among stakeholders and reinforces a business’s commitment to integrity.
Key Steps for Effective ESG Implementation
Assess and Define ESG Goals Begin with a thorough assessment of the organization’s current ESG status, understanding the impact areas, and identifying key ESG goals. This could involve stakeholder interviews, reviewing company policies, and setting benchmarks based on industry standards. Defining clear, actionable, and measurable ESG objectives enables a focused strategy tailored to the company’s values and operational context.
Integrate ESG into Business Strategy ESG should be woven into the fabric of the company’s core strategy, not treated as an isolated initiative. Departments across the organization—from HR to finance and operations—must collaborate to align their practices with ESG goals. For example, finance teams can work on sustainable investment strategies, while HR can focus on diversity initiatives. Cross-functional alignment is essential for a cohesive and effective ESG strategy.
Set KPIs and Track Progress Implementing ESG without measurable goals can lead to a lack of accountability and progress. Key performance indicators (KPIs) specific to each ESG pillar allow organizations to track their achievements, adjust strategies as needed, and share transparent progress with stakeholders. Metrics might include energy consumption reductions, community impact assessments, and diversity ratios, with regular reports to stakeholders.
Engage Stakeholders and Communicate Efforts Transparency is crucial for successful ESG implementation. Regular communication with stakeholders, including employees, investors, customers, and the community, fosters trust and shows commitment. Sharing ESG progress in annual reports, newsletters, and public statements demonstrates the organization’s dedication and can inspire stakeholder support and buy-in.
Adapt and Evolve with Emerging Standards ESG standards and expectations continue to evolve as new environmental issues and social priorities emerge. Staying updated on industry-specific regulations and sustainability advancements allows organizations to adapt their ESG strategies, ensuring continuous improvement and relevance.
The Benefits of ESG Implementation
By embedding ESG principles into their operations, organizations can enjoy benefits beyond compliance. ESG-focused companies often see improved financial performance, brand reputation, employee engagement, and risk management. With investors increasingly prioritizing ESG considerations, businesses that demonstrate commitment to these principles attract funding and partnerships geared toward responsible growth. Moreover, companies with solid ESG practices are better equipped to adapt to challenges, building resilience in a rapidly changing market.
A Sustainable Future through ESG
ESG implementation is a long-term commitment that aligns business success with societal and environmental well-being. As organizations across industries adopt ESG strategies, they not only secure their own growth but also contribute to a sustainable and equitable future for all. By taking responsible actions today, companies are setting the stage for a future where profit, people, and the planet prosper together.

Ethical Considerations in Data Science: Ensuring Responsible and Transparent Practices
As data science continues to revolutionize industries, the ethical implications of data collection, analysis, and application have come to the forefront. Ensuring responsible and transparent practices is crucial for maintaining public trust and promoting fairness in data-driven decision-making. Here, we explore key ethical considerations in data science and how organizations can adopt responsible practices.
1. Data Privacy and Consent
Informed Consent: Individuals should be fully aware of how their data will be used and must provide explicit consent. This includes clear communication about data collection methods and purposes.
Anonymization: When possible, data should be anonymized to protect individual identities, especially in sensitive applications like healthcare and finance.
2. Fairness and Bias
Mitigating Bias: Data science models can perpetuate or even exacerbate existing biases if not carefully managed. Organizations must actively work to identify and mitigate biases in their data and algorithms.
Diverse Data Sources: Ensuring diversity in data sources can help create more representative models. This involves considering demographic variations and the social context of the data.
3. Transparency and Accountability
Explainable AI: Implementing models that provide clear explanations for their decisions can foster trust. Stakeholders should understand how outcomes are derived, particularly in high-stakes applications like criminal justice and hiring.
Documentation: Maintaining comprehensive documentation of data sources, methodologies, and algorithms used can promote accountability and facilitate audits.
4. Responsible Use of Data
Data Minimization: Collect only the data necessary for a specific purpose to limit exposure to privacy risks. Excessive data collection can lead to misuse and ethical dilemmas.
Purpose Limitation: Data should only be used for the purposes explicitly stated at the time of collection. Secondary uses should be approached with caution and transparency.
5. Impact on Society
Social Responsibility: Data science practices should consider their broader societal impact. Organizations must evaluate how their decisions affect communities and individuals, striving to promote equity and justice.
Long-term Consequences: Assess the potential long-term effects of data-driven decisions. This includes considering how models might influence behaviors and societal norms over time.
6. Compliance with Regulations
Data Protection Laws: Adhere to regulations such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), which set standards for data privacy and protection.
Ethical Review Boards: Establish internal review processes to evaluate the ethical implications of data science projects, similar to institutional review boards in academic research.
7. Continuous Education and Training
Ethics Training: Organizations should provide regular training on ethical data practices for all employees involved in data science. This promotes a culture of ethics and awareness.
Stay Informed: Data scientists must keep up with evolving ethical standards and best practices, ensuring that their work aligns with contemporary ethical norms.
Conclusion
As data science plays an increasingly vital role in decision-making across sectors, addressing ethical considerations is paramount. By prioritizing privacy, fairness, transparency, and social responsibility, organizations can build trust with stakeholders and foster a culture of ethical data use. Responsible practices not only enhance the integrity of data science but also contribute to a more equitable and just society. Embracing these ethical principles will ensure that data science remains a powerful force for good in the world.

Why Every Fintech Needs Aadhaar Verification API for Secure Transactions
In the rapidly evolving world of fintech, security and trust are paramount. As digital transactions become the norm, financial technology companies must prioritise secure and reliable verification methods to protect user data. One such initiative that has become mandatory in India is the Aadhaar verification API. This article explores why every fintech company should integrate Aadhaar verification APIs to ensure secure transactions and customer trust.
What is the Aadhaar Verification API?
The Aadhaar Verification API is an online service provided by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). This allows businesses to instantly check their customers’ Aadhaar numbers. This screening process ensures that the information provided by the user is accurate and true, thus reducing the risk of fraud. APIs are an essential tool for fintech companies, enabling them to authenticate users quickly and securely.
Role Of Aadhaar In Digital Transactions
Aadhaar, the world’s largest biometric identification system, is playing a key role in digitizing the Indian economy. With over 1.3 billion Aadhaar cards issued, it has become a standard way of identifying various industries, including banks, telecommunications and government welfare schemes The Aadhaar verification API uses this huge database to track users, which is verified in real-time, making digital communications safer and more efficient.
Why Fintech Companies need Aadhaar Verification API
i]. Enhanced Security
Security is a key concern for fintech companies, and Aadhaar verification APIs provide additional security. By checking a user’s Aadhaar number, companies can ensure that the person is who they claim to be, thereby reducing the risk of theft fraud, and deception This is especially important for the economy's internal communication, which is critical.
ii]. Compliance With Legal Requirements
Fintech companies in India have to adhere to stringent regulations laid down by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and other regulatory bodies. These laws often require businesses to verify their customers’ identity before providing services. The Aadhaar Verification API simplifies this process, enabling businesses to seamlessly meet compliance requirements.
iii]. Speed and Efficiency
In the fast-paced world of fintech, time is of the essence. The Aadhaar verification API enables instant verification of users, reducing the time for new customers to come on board. This speed and efficiency not only improve customer experience but also give FinTech companies a competitive advantage.
iv]. Cost-Effective Solution
Manual verification can be time-consuming and expensive. The integration of the Aadhaar verification API enables fintech companies to automate the verification process, reducing operational costs. This cost-effective solution is particularly beneficial for startups and small businesses that operate on tight budgets.
v]. To Build Customer Confidence
Trust is key to the success of any fintech company. The use of the Aadhaar Verification API enables businesses to demonstrate their commitment to protect customer data. If users know they are verifying identity through a secure and reliable system, they are more likely to trust the company with their finances.
How the Aadhaar Verification API works
The Aadhaar Verification API works through a simple yet effective process. When a user enters their Aadhaar number, the API sends a request to UIDAI’s database to verify the details. The API can perform different types of verification, e.g.
i]. Verification Of Aadhaar Number
This checks if the Aadhaar number provided by the user is valid.
ii]. Population Certification
This ensures that the user’s demographics, like name, address, and date of birth, are compared with the Aadhaar database.
iii]. Biometric verification
In some cases, the API may require biometric data to authenticate the user, such as fingerprints or iris scans.
iv]. One-Time Password (OTP) verification
The API can also verify users through the OTP sent to the mobile number linked to the Aadhaar. This adds an extra layer of security, ensuring that only the Aadhaar holder can complete the verification process.
Integration of Aadhaar Verification API on Fintech Platforms
The integration of the Aadhaar verification API into a fintech platform is fairly straightforward. Most fintech platforms use APIs to integrate services and services, and can also include Aadhaar verification. Here are the basic details of the integration process.
i]. Api Integration
The fintech company should integrate the Aadhaar verification API into its platform. This involves adding the necessary code to connect the platform with UIDAI’s servers.
ii]. User-Interface Design
A user interface (UI) must be designed to collect the necessary basic information from the user. This includes fields for Aadhaar number, OTP and biometric data if required.
iii]. Testing
Before going live, the integration should be thoroughly tested to ensure a seamless and secure operation. This testing phase is critical to identifying and fixing any potential problems.
iv]. Initiation And Maintenance
Once the integration is complete and tested, the platform can go live. Ongoing monitoring is necessary to ensure that the verification system is safe and effective.
Future Of Aadhaar verification In Fintech
As the fintech industry grows, the need for secure verification systems like Aadhaar verification will only increase. With the government’s push for Digital India, more businesses are expected to integrate Aadhaar verification in the coming years. This will not only enhance security but also improve access to financial services for the unbanked population.
Moreover, technological advancements like artificial intelligence and blockchain can further enhance Aadhaar verification capabilities, making Aadhaar verification stronger and more secure. Fintech companies that embrace these innovations early will stand in a better position to market.
Conclusion
Aadhaar verification API is an important tool for fintech companies operating in India. It provides improved security, compliance with regulatory requirements, speed, efficiency, and cost reduction. Most importantly, it helps build customer trust, which is critical to the long-term success of any fintech business. As digital connectivity increases, fintech companies need to prioritize security measures such as Aadhaar verification to protect user data in order to stay ahead of the competition.

Laura & Sarah: Mother-Duo Redefining and Pioneering in Organic Infant Formula at Bobbie
Milk. Our first food was Milk. Our mother’s milk which was given to us right after we were born was the only source of nutrition and food for the next few months and years.
Mother’s Milk a.k.a Breastmilk keeps babies healthy, protected, and safe.
Tumblr media
From being gentle on the still-developing stomach that is easily digestible to providing the babies with antibodies to prevent infections, diseases, and sicknesses from occurring – infants require safely formulated sustainable baby products or their mother’s milk for nutritional purposes which are all in the right proportions.
Although mother’s milk or breastmilk can never be replicated or replaced from being the No.1 Best Nutrition for babies, there are some mothers and parents who are unable to breastfeed their infants due to several factors such as but not limited to – circumstances and situations, personal choice, or could be medical reasons that deter breastfeeding.
As an alternative, many companies and organizations over the years have come up with formulations that are then manufactured to produce Infant Formula – a dried milk powder comprising all the required nutrients that a small baby would need to grow well.
Therefore in this article, we will share deep insights into how an American company – Bobbie was founded and established by pioneering co-founders and mothers – Lura Modi and Sarah Hardy, in 2018, in San Francisco, California, USA. Bobbie is a food manufacturing company that specializes in formulating to produce Organic Infant Milk that meets FDA Standards. Here, we will also learn the importance of milk for infants and how Bobbie is working towards evolving and redefining Infant Milk after years of companies exploiting these infant food products by adding harmful ingredients.
Women Duo and Mothers – The Faces Behind Bobbie – Laura and Sarah:
The co-founders who founded Bobbie are – Laura Modi and Sarah Hardy. Being mother-duo and friends, Laura and Sarah shared the same goal in trying – “to help every parent feel supported in their feeding journey – breast, bottle, or both”.
“Feeding is a journey” – Bobbie.
Laura Modi was the initial founder and current CEO of Bobbie. She was also the first one to be inspired to come up with the idea and concept for Bobbie. Having received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing, Consumer Behaviour, Business Policy, Management Accounting, and Market Analysis – Laura went on to work in several different roles and positions such as – Online Marketing Director at Portwest Ltd., Google Finance at Google, Director of Hospitality at Airbnb, Board Member at Eat Real and TaskRabbit, and finally in 2018 founded Bobbie. Laura was inspired by a personal experience where one day she found herself standing in front of infant formulas at a shop facing her first bout of mastitis. She was extremely disappointed and saddened by the fact that all of the formula products contained corn syrup, fillers, and palm oil. The founder established her company in her basement in 2018 and was named Bobbie after her daughter called her bottle – Bobbie.
Sarah Hardy has an Arts Degree in Sociology and Government from Bowdoin College. She started her career as a Senior Project Manager at Corcoran Sunshine Marketing Group, a Project Management Lead at The Mark Company, and Head of Planning and Operations at Airbnb, and finally in 2019 joined Laura in building Bobbie as a co-founder. Laura approached her friend who was also a mother to join the business in taking the next steps in the wild journey. This is when Sarah Hardy joined Bobbie in building a thriving workplace and helping to rope in scientists and pediatric nutritionists to ensure that they can bring a formulated and European-style developed Organic Infant Formula product to the US market. By 2020, Bobbie was officially launched and hit the market with successful purchases, after being given the green light by the Food and Drug Administration regulatory agency.
About Bobbie:
The name Bobbie was inspired by Laura’s daughter who calls her bottle “Bobbie”. Laura founded and established Bobbie in 2018 after being inspired by a personal experience two years before, in 2016. Sarah joined Laura as a co-founder who helped grow the business to where it is today.
Established initially in Laura’s basement, the company now has its own office headquartered in San Francisco, California, USA. Being approved by the FDA was a huge accomplishment and revelation for Laura and Sarah.
Bobbie is the 1st ever mom-founded and women-led company by Laura & Sarah, in the US that formulates, manufactures, and produces Organic Infant Formula with a European-style ingredients list that meets all EU, USDA, and FDA requirements. Bobbie’s Organic Infant Milk is made from pasture-raised cows milked from Organic Valley Farms. It is also the only baby formula product and company to pass and receive the “Clean Label Project’s Purity Award” and the “Pesticide Free Certification”.
From distribution to testing, and manufacturing to sourcing, Bobbie promises to be the #1 priority for organic infant formula. With an in-house team of experienced scientists and experts behind the formulation of – “Just ingredients you and your baby will love”, Bobbie’s Organic Infant Formula is packed with Iron, DHA, Vitamin D, 40% casein, and 60% whey protein. It has no antibiotics, no allergens, no corn syrup, no fillers, no palm oils, no maltodextrin, no gluten, and no persistent pesticides.
Bobbie acknowledges that formulas for infants have been stigmatized and made vary. Over the years many companies have manufactured and produced infant formulas that unfortunately contain unhealthy ingredients that even adults themselves wouldn’t find safe for consumption. Bobbie deeply knows that for holistic baby care, “Breast is Best”. But due to varying reasons and circumstances parents and mothers turn to formula. Therefore with a mission “to shake the stigma on how we choose to feed our babies”, Bobbie strives to “evolve the future of infant formula”.
