the problem with reading and writing leading to a strong vocabulary is that you tend to know the vibe of words instead of their meanings.
if I used this word in a sentence, would it make sense? absolutely. if you asked me what it meant, could I tell you? absolutely not.
#words are not vibes#this is such a dangerous mindset we're picking up where nothing actually means anything and facts are just feelings#words mean things#what you are describing is connotation and maybe cultural context#being able to use words effectively is a dying art#creativity is not this amorphous intangible thing#it is built on a foundation of skills and understanding#and we are losing the skill of language pretty severely#language is malleable#connotation context and useage change#these are morally neutral if not good things#but that doesn't mean words don't mean things#that doesn't mean not understanding the language you're using is fine cause you can just feel it out#feeling it out is fine but building your vocabulary gives you so many more tools to express intangible and amorphous things#like a word is not a concept#words can be used to describe concepts#you are not immune to anti intellectualism
