Congruent vs Incongruent Body Language. Pay attention to when the speaker’s words and body language appears to be in synch and congruent. When the words and the body language gestures are aligned and flow together, then the message is more credible than when the verbal and nonverbal expressions are off. When you notice any incongruence, then examine what is happening in those moments and wonder what or why the verbal words are not matching the body language. When words say one thing and the body shows something else, what are you going to believe? The words or the body?
