I’m so viscerally upset about how youtube sponsorships these days are coming from actively malicious and harmful companies. Just this week I saw a sponsorship from betterhelp (which has a history of selling patient information) and Opera GX (unsure about GX, but Opera has a history of selling info). Last month I saw a sponsor from Temu (don’t fucking get me started on them) from a YouTuber with a audience of mostly teenagers. I understand YouTubers need to make money and part of that is sponsorship based but just maybe there should be some consideration and research put into the company before accepting the wad of cash and telling people to use malicious software or services. Especially betterhelp. Being sponsored by betterhelp is downright cruel.

I only just heard of the Illusi0n Garden anti-scalping measures via this blog, and I definitely dislike scalpers also, but I find it kind of creepy that a company is apparently policing what people do with a purchased product AFTER it has been bought and paid for. Scalpers suck, but enforcing a rule that someone can't freely sell their doll for a price that the original maker doesn't like... well, that's something people have frowned upon both D0llshe and Danny Ch00 for, so what gives?

League players will boycott a 500$ piece of apparel that's not required for them to play the game but they won't show as much backlash towards riot forcing them to download an anti-cheat program that fries their computers

i just realized a huge pet peeve in the tech/cyber/digital arena: employees trying to down-sell you on device or hard drive storage because “you probably won’t even come close to using all of it” and “you will probably just use [insert various cloud servers] for the majority of your storage anyway.” For one, the processing and storage capacity for seemingly random projects, work, etc. i end up working on is unreal For the second point, i don’t think they quite grasp my instinctive drive from the “golden age” to backup things to physical objects and actually store things on the device as needed. Clouds are one method of backing up, not the god of immutable data storage

The people complaining about SOOM not using PayPal anymore need to realize how much of a hassle PayPal is to use as a seller vs a buyer, and the fact that SOOM is doing this BECAUSE due to people abusing the PayPal claim system against them highlights how much of a problem PayPal can be.
Sellers, especially makers and doll artists in this community, often get screwed over the abuse the system because of how often PayPal sides with the buyer vs the seller, and for a hobby that relies on pre-orders that lasts months for items that are hundreds and thousands of dollars, selling with PayPal can be extremely risky, even I have had issues with the PayPal claim system when I lost a PayPal case for not shipping fast enough, and the buyer ended up with their money back and my stuff for free. And before you say “people can still do a chargeback with a credit card” yeah they can, but some banks see the chargeback claims as a unauthorized charge claim and will block your card or disable it completely, so that one card that you may use for all your bills or whatever is unusable until you get your a new card, so no it’s not the same as a PayPal claim especially when the buyer risks not having a usable card in the process.
As well as PayPals high fees for non-US sellers and that PayPal also sometimes randomly withhold funds even from accounts that have been active for years, it doesn’t surprise me in the slightest SOOM isn’t using PayPal anymore, especially when they also had people in the community abusing their layaway plans where people were taking over a year to pay off multiple dolls from SOOM. So if you want to be mad at anyone, be mad at the people who pushed them to get to this point because I know it isn’t an easy decision to disable a very commonly payment platform.

It absolutely sucks that everything’s getting more expensive and all that, and I don’t like the idea of paying $70 for Tears of the Kingdom especially since Nintendo is notorious for never lowering their prices but if $10 is the price to be paid for Nintendo developers having living wages, so be it
like, Nintendo sales have been going down but they’re still giving their devs a 10% raise. I’m happy spending $10 more if it means that the people who made the game I’m playing are taken care of, especially since burnout is so prevalent in the industry nowadays
Tumblr media
This is my most anticipated game of the year as well, and I think a lot of people are in the same boat. I’m glad the people who made it are being treated well.
