Edward gets a bad rap because he's quiet and the whole lucy steele situation but he doesn't get enough credit for how honourable he is! It's easy to have honour when it costs you nothing he knows he'll be miserable with lucy but he knows it's the right thing and to do so he sticks to his guns and does it anyway despite the opposition from his family and to me that is hot! Also yes he makes mistakes but his family are vile - he grew up with Fanny and Robert and is still a good man! Also he looks like hugh grant and plays fun games with Margaret and he understands Elinor in a way no one else does - Hot!Hot!Hot!

The wet shirt scene is so iconic not (only) because âoooh almost-shirtless sexy manâ, but because itâs a metaphor for how heâs absolutely falling apart!!! This is a private moment, when he doesnât think anyone can see him. And then he bumps. into. Lizzie. At his house!! And the entire sequence that follows with him rushing out still doing his jacket up to catch her before he leaves. They are both on the back foot and itâs THAT moment of confusion that opens a more honest dialogue between them.

Even ignoring the wet white shirt, which has become A Thing now, he is so hot with his curly hair and his little half smiles and his intense looks of longing and his legs that go on for milessss.

This cannot be real. My fellow Jane Austen people. Without Colin Firthâs Darcy we wouldnât have 90% of modern JA content. He opened a door and there was no turning back for modern culture. There would be no MacFadyen standing half undressed in a field at dawn without Firth jumping into a lake first. There would be no hand flex if there hadnât been Firth doing his best impression of a man undressing Elizabeth Bennet with his eyes and hating himself for liking it. There would be no Bridgerton without Bridget Jones. Letâs face it people. We wouldnât be here having these arguments if Colin Firth had not been Mr Darcy.
Colin Firth understood Mr. Darcy in a way no other actor ever has. He is awkward as fuck in a way that comes across as snooty and judgmental on a first watch-through, then can be read as awkward and longing on a second time. His performance had such depth while looking extremely shallow at first glance. This man WAS Mr. Darcy. (I love 2005, as well, and I love Matthew McFayden, but he was awkward for awkward sake.) Colin Firth made Darcy's awkward look snooty and aloof.

âFirthingâ is an actual term that is used now to describe someone yearning intensely. It is named after Colin Firthâs Mr Darcy performance.
Colin Firth all the way. He's known in our household as Owl Eyes because in every frame he's mooning over Elizabeth Bennet. Unsurpassable, unmatched, golden television (and some of the worst dancing you've ever seen).

My high school English teacher was very into using movies to teach alongside literature, which was a great teaching tool. When we read Pride and Prejudice, he used both 2005 and 1995 for various scenes. What stands out to me all these years later was when it got to the part when Lizzy went to help Georgiana after Caroline dropped Mr. Wickham's name and Darcy gives Lizzy this look:
My teacher stopped the film and pointed at Darcy's face and said, "See that? That is THE look. If someone ever looks at you like that, you know they're in love." And what is hotter than that?
Also this teacher had two cats named Lizzy and Darcy. Not relevant to the poll but I wanted you all to know about them.
The best thing about the Colin Firth wet shirt scene is actually the scene that follows where him and Lizzie are both just dyinggg of embarrassment but Darcy pulls himself together refuses to lose his advantage and runs to get dressed and chase her down before she leaves - just the mix of cringe and hopefulness at seeing her again is so well done and so attractive!!! (this is just the bit where he's running after her but I love it all!)

Lightning revved his engine once more for good measure and turned quickly down Clinic Road, towards Docâs garage.
The light was on, meaning that Doc was up, so Lightning just nosed open the heavy, wooden door without knocking. âHey, Doc! Ready to eat my dustâŚ?â His voice trailed off.Â
The garage was empty.
âHuh?â He wondered, looking around. There was a warm can of copperoil next to Doc's workbench, a USPS box along with a book and some paper on the bench itself, and a newspaper on the floor that had been opened to the sports section. But Doc, himself, was nowhere to be seen.
Lightning shrugged, turned, and headed back outside so that he could check the clinic. It was an easy thing to forget that âDocâ wasnât just a nickname: The Fabulous Hudson Hornet was an actual doctor with degrees in internal combustion AND clinical aerodynamics. More than one training session had been interrupted by a medical emergency in town, and he would sometimes travel out of state to attend medical seminars and conferences and the like.Â
But he always made sure to communicate stuff like this to Lightning as far in advance as he could. And, failing that, heâd at least tack a note to the door.
Lightning peered in through the Clinicâs front window.
No Doc.Â
He checked the doors to the clinic and the garage for a note.
Nothing.
Maybe there was a note in the garage, and he just missed it.
He quickly made his way back into the garage and considered the contents of the workbench. The USPS box had been opened and was empty, except for a yellowed newspaper clipping dated June 22, 1954. The title of the article read âKentucky moonshiner, Diesel OâTwill, killed in Knoxville Crash While Evading Lawmen.â Next to the box was a tattered, leather-bound journal and a letter printed using some sort of voice-to-text tech.Â
There was no note that he could find, and that left him feeling both stumped and concerned.Â
It was NOT like Doc to just disappear without telling himâŚand he wasnât at Floâs.
Where could he be?Â
He reconsidered the contents of the workbench. Maybe the answer was right in front of him
His gaze first fell upon the journal. Lightning had never seen the item among Docâs personal effects, and as Doc really wasnât the sort of person to keep oneâŚ
Nodding determinedly, he flipped open the cover and scanned the first page. The writing was similar to Docâs, but differentâŚfancier, and, much to his annoyance, the entire thing was written in cursive.
Lightning sighed and closed the book. Â He never learned to read or write in that style; his parents considered it âold fashioned.â
He moved on to the letter.Â
âHey, Hud,â It began. âItâs good to hear from youâŚâ There was a long pause as evident from a string of periods. âLook, I know itâs been a while, and I gotta admit, I was mighty cross when you left town without so much as a âgoodbyeâ. But, yâknow what: Thatâs water under the bridge. Iâm just glad your engineâs still running. Soâs the rest of the gang; Louise especially. Pretty sure she still has a crush on you, despite your preferences...â Lightning paused. The personal nature of the letter made him feel uneasy, like he was prying into Docâs personal lifeâŚthe taboo parts that he never talked about despite them both being pretty open with each other about a lot of things.Â
He considered not finishing the letter out of respect, but perhaps there was something here that would shed light on Docâs disappearance.
âAs a way of burying the hatchet, Iâve sent you something that I shouldâve sent you a long, long time ago⌠your maâs personal diary.â
Lightningâs eyes flicked over to the journal, then back to the letter.Â
Yet another long pause. âI read it.â Another pause. âI read it out of angerâŚbut thereâre some things in there that you should be aware of. AndâŚlookâŚIf you need to talk, Iâm here to listen.â The letter was signed âSmokey.â
A bit of fear began to creep into the racecarâs brain. He didnât know who this âSmokeyâ person wasâŚbut the tone of the letter didnât sit well with him (and given Docâs empty garage, he had the feeling it hadnât set well with Doc either), and he reversed out the door fully intending to speed over to Flo's.
But he hesitated.
Doc was a father figure to most everyone in town, Lightning notwithstanding. If he were to speed into Floâs lot, scared, shaking, and asking a bunch of loaded questions regarding Docâs whereaboutsâŚhe was pretty sure everyone would panic. And as much as he was concerned about Doc, it wasnât a five-alarm fireâŚyet.Â
But where could Doc be?Â
