Atlanta Commercial Roofing

Protect your Atlanta commercial property from severe weather, leaks, and indefinite closure. Understanding available commercial roof types and which roofing company can meet your commercial structure’s needs will help preserve your business operation and property value.

New Image Roofing Atlanta gathered information about commercial roofing systems, why commercial roofs leak, signs your roof needs to be replaced, commercial roof maintenance programs, and why New Image Roofing Atlanta should be your roofer.
Commercial Roofing System Types

Commercial roofs come in various materials and designs, each suited to specific building needs. New Image Roofing Atlanta specializes in multiple commercial roofing systems, including:
1. TPO (Thermoplastic Polyolefin) – TPO is a popular choice due to its energy efficiency, durability, and UV ray resistance. Its heat-welded seams provide superior waterproofing, making it an excellent choice for flat and low-slope roofs.

2. PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) – PVC is known for its chemical resistance and durability. It’s an ideal option for restaurants or manufacturing facilities where exposure to grease or chemicals is a concern.
3. EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) – This rubber roofing material is resistant to weathering and an economical choice for flat roofs. It is lightweight and flexible – suitable for various building sizes.
4. Built-Up Roofing (BUR) – Built-up roofing consists of multiple layers of asphalt and fabric, topped with a protective coating. It offers excellent durability and is a time-tested solution for flat roofs.

5. Metal Roofing – Metal roofs are lightweight, durable, and environmentally friendly. They are available in materials like aluminum, steel, and copper, with long-term reliability and aesthetics.
6. Torch-Down Roofing – Torch-down roofing is made from modified bitumen and applied using a torch. This material is waterproof and resistant to extreme weather, making it a reliable option for flat or low-slope roofs.

Note: Only a few roofing companies are qualified in torch-down roofing. New Image Roofing Atlanta’s installation crews are fully trained and licensed to install and maintain torch-down roofing systems.
Why Commercial Roofs Leak

Even the best commercial roofs can develop problems over time due to various factors. Here are common reasons for commercial roof leaks:
1. Age – Roofing materials degrade over time. As a roof ages, it becomes less effective at protecting the building, making leaks more likely.
2. Bad Flashing – Flashing seals the edges of roof penetrations like vents and chimneys. Improper installation or deterioration can create entry points for water.
3. Faulty Penetration Boots – Rubber boots used to seal around pipes or other penetrations can crack or wear down, leading to water infiltration.
4. Branch, Debris, or Foot-Traffic Damage – Branches and debris can puncture roofing membranes, and excessive foot traffic can wear down materials, compromising the roof’s integrity.
5. Mold Damage – Mold and algae thrive in Atlanta’s humid climate. Over time, they can weaken roofing materials and lead to leaks.
6. Damaged Membrane – The membrane of a flat roof is its primary barrier against water. Tears, punctures, or wear in the membrane can result in leaks.
7. Drain and Gutter Issues – Clogged drains and gutters can cause water to pool on the roof, leading to leaks and structural damage.
Commercial Roof Replacement Signs

Knowing when to replace a commercial roof is crucial to avoid costly repairs and prevent damage to your property. Here are signs that indicate it may be time for a replacement:
Frequent Repairs: A complete replacement may be more cost-effective when a roof requires frequent maintenance.
Visible Damage: Cracks, tears, or punctures in the roofing material suggest that it’s nearing the end of its lifespan.
Water Stains and Leaks: Persistent water stains on ceilings or walls often indicate significant roof damage.
Sagging Roof Sections: Structural issues like sagging indicate that the roof’s integrity is compromised.
Old Age: Most commercial roofs have a lifespan of 15–30 years, depending on the material.

1. Early Problem Detection – Routine inspections help identify minor issues before they escalate into significant problems.
2. Extended Lifespan – Regular maintenance, such as cleaning and resealing, preserves the roof’s materials and delays replacement.
3. Improved Energy Efficiency – A well-maintained roof provides better insulation, reducing energy costs for heating and cooling.
4. Warranty Compliance – Many manufacturers require routine maintenance to keep warranties valid.
5. Cost Savings – Preventative care is far more affordable than emergency repairs or premature roof replacements.

Common Commercial Roofing Problems and How to Avoid Them
A commercial roof is a significant investment, and keeping it in good condition is essential for protecting your building and avoiding costly repairs.

However, many businesses in Burlington face common roofing problems due to weather conditions, poor maintenance, or improper installation. Here’s a look at these issues and how you can prevent them to extend the life of your commercial roof.
1. Leaks and Water Damage
Problem:Leaks are one of the most frequent issues for commercial roofs, often caused by cracks, punctures, or poor drainage. Left unchecked, leaks can lead to structural damage, mold growth, and compromised insulation.
Solution:
Schedule regular roof inspections to identify and repair potential weak spots.
Ensure drainage systems, such as gutters and downspouts, are clear of debris to prevent water pooling.
2. Punctures and Tears
Problem:Foot traffic, sharp objects, or debris can puncture the roofing material, especially on flat or low-slope roofs. Over time, these punctures can expand and cause significant damage.
Solution:
Limit access to the roof and use designated walkways for necessary maintenance.
Install durable materials like TPO or EPDM that are resistant to punctures.
3. Poor Installation
Problem:Improper installation of roofing materials can lead to premature failure, leaks, and reduced lifespan. Common issues include uneven surfaces, weak seams, or incorrect fastening.
Solution:
Hire experienced roofing professionals with a proven track record in commercial roofing.
Use high-quality materials designed for Burlington’s climate.
4. Weather Damage
Problem:Burlington’s weather can be harsh, with heavy snow, rain, and strong winds taking a toll on commercial roofs. These conditions can cause cracks, loosening of materials, and wear over time.
Solution:
Invest in weather-resistant materials like metal or modified bitumen roofing.
Remove snow buildup promptly to prevent excessive weight and ice dam formation.
5. Lack of Maintenance
Problem:Neglecting routine maintenance can lead to small problems becoming larger, more expensive issues.
Solution:
Schedule annual roof inspections and address issues immediately.
Maintain a record of repairs and ensure routine cleaning of the roof surface.
Conclusion
Commercial roofing problems can be costly and disruptive, but proactive maintenance and proper care can prevent most issues. By addressing leaks, punctures, weather damage, and other common problems early, you can protect your investment and ensure your Burlington business stays safe and secure. Don’t wait until issues arise—take steps now to maintain your commercial roof’s health and longevity.

How Weather Affects Single Ply Roofing Performance

When choosing roofing materials, it’s important to realize how climate can affect their prolonged-term performance. Single-ply roofing, recounted for its sturdiness and versatility, is a well-known desire amongst proprietors and industrial asset owners in areas with diverse climates. In Louisville, KY, climate may be unpredictable, beginning from warm, humid summers to freezing winters. For those considering Single Ply Roofing Louisville, KY, information on the impact of climate on roofing structures can help make informed alternatives. Let’s explore how particular weather conditions have an effect on unmarried-ply roofing overall performance in Louisville, KY, and why making an investment in the proper materials and installation can help make sure toughness and effectiveness.
The Basics of Single Ply Roofing
Single-ply roofing structures encompass materials like TPO (thermoplastic polyolefin), EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer), and PVC (polyvinyl chloride). These roofing membranes are famous due to their ease of set up, flexibility, and strength overall performance. However, like every roofing material, unmarried-ply roofing isn't always proof towards the results of climate. Whether it’s scorching warmth, heavy rains, or icy situations, knowing how those elements engage with Single Ply Roofing Louisville KY is essential to maximizing normal performance and lifespan.
How Heat Affects Single-Ply Roofing
Louisville, KY, reports excessive warmness within the summer season months, with temperatures often hovering above 90°F. Prolonged publicity to immoderate temperatures can cause unmarried-ply membranes, especially people with darkish-colored surfaces, to enlarge. This thermal increase can bring about minor structural modifications inside the roofing membrane, especially if the installation isn’t completed successfully.
Thermal Expansion and Contraction
Single-ply membranes, like TPO and PVC, are susceptible to repeated cycles of growth and contraction. Over time, this cycle can cause cracking, seam failure, or maybe punctures. However, present-day Single Ply Roofing Louisville KY structures are designed to resist these temperature fluctuations, making them best for the place's weather. Incorporating reflective coatings or deciding on lighter-coloured membranes can help mitigate the unfavourable outcomes of heat via reducing surface temperatures and enhancing strength performance.
UV Radiation Damage
Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is some other element that may compromise the integrity of roofing membranes. UV rays damage the chemical bonds in the substances, which can cause the degradation of the membrane over the years. This problem is greater stated with non-reflective materials. Therefore, making an investment in UV-resistant Single Ply Roofing Louisville KY is vital for house owners and organizations on this place. Proper renovation, such as making use of roof coatings or acting on ordinary inspections, can further protect against UV damage.
The Impact of Heavy Rain and Storms
Louisville is understood for its rainfall, mainly in spring and fall. Heavy rains, combined with thunderstorms, may be difficult for roofing structures. Single-ply roofing, whilst commonly water-resistant, must be mounted efficiently to withstand such climate activities.
Seam Integrity
One of the important things to consider with single-ply roofing structures is seam integrity. Seams are frequently the weakest factor, and if now not nicely sealed, water can seep through, causing leaks and structural damage. During installation, deciding on skilled experts for Single Ply Roofing Louisville, KY, is essential to make certain that seams are perfectly welded or adhered to. This approach reduces the risk of water infiltration all through heavy rains.
Ponding Water
Another task posed by heavy rains is ponding water. Although single-ply roofing materials are designed to be waterproof, extended ponding can lead to cloth degradation and mould growth. Louisville's rainy weather necessitates the set up of proper drainage structures and normal preservation to save you water from pooling on the roof’s surface.
Freezing Winters and the Effects on Single Ply Roofing
Winters in Louisville, KY, carry freezing temperatures, snow, and ice, all of which may have an effect on single-ply roofing. The most large risks all through this season encompass freeze-thaw cycles, snow accumulation, and ice dams.
Freeze-Thaw Cycles
During iciness, the freeze-thaw cycle is a habitual technique where water infiltrates small cracks or imperfections in the membrane, after which it freezes, increasing to widen those cracks. Over time, this cycle can compromise the structural integrity of the roofing machine. Choosing Single Ply Roofing Louisville KY with a thicker membrane and reinforced seams can help decrease the impact of freeze-thaw cycles.
Snow and Ice Accumulation
While Louisville isn’t recognised for heavy snowfall, occasional snow and ice accumulation can still occur. Ice can be mainly detrimental because it adds weight and might result in the formation of ice dams. Ice dams cause water to lower back up below the roofing membrane, ensuing in leaks. To mitigate this, it's crucial to make sure the right insulation and air flow are installed whilst installing single-ply Roofing Louisville, KY structures. These measures help maintain a constant roof temperature, preventing the formation of ice dams and lowering the risk of leaks.
Wind and Its Impact on Single-Ply Roofing
Louisville's weather consists of occasional robust winds, which could affect roofing structures if they're no longer competently anchored. Single-ply roofing membranes are recognized for their flexibility, which allows them to face up to strong winds while properly established.
Wind Uplift Resistance
An important aspect of single-ply roofing is its wind uplift resistance. Poorly installed membranes are prone to wind uplift, where the roofing membrane can be peeled away from the underlying structure, exposing it to water damage. Therefore, using the right fasteners, adhesives, and perimeter reinforcements is crucial for maintaining the integrity of Single Ply Roofing Louisville KY systems in high-wind situations.
Seasonal Maintenance and Inspections
While choosing brilliant materials and professional installation are critical steps, everyday maintenance and inspections are similarly crucial for Single Ply Roofing Louisville, KY. Seasonal inspections help identify potential vulnerabilities before they strengthen into luxurious issues.
Spring and Fall Inspections
Spring and fall are ideal times for roof inspections in Louisville. After iciness, it is essential to check for damage resulting from ice and freezing temperatures. In the autumn, inspections can help become aware of problems like blocked drainage structures or weakened seams, which need to be addressed earlier than iciness units in.
Preventive Roof Coating Applications
Applying defensive roof coatings can substantially extend the lifespan of single-ply roofing membranes. Roof coatings no longer only improve UV resistance but additionally help mitigate the effects of temperature fluctuations and moisture infiltration. By investing in reflective and waterproof coatings, homeowners and commercial enterprise owners can increase the sturdiness in their Single Ply Roofing Louisville KY systems.
Conclusion
Weather has a large impact on the overall performance of single-ply roofing structures. In a town like Louisville, KY, wherein temperatures vary notably and heavy rains are not unusual, selecting a roofing gadget that may resist these challenges is critical. Understanding how heat, rain, snow, and wind affect roofing materials allows belongings proprietors to make knowledgeable alternatives whilst choosing, putting in, and keeping Single Ply Roofing Louisville KY systems.
Proper installation with the aid of experienced professionals, ordinary maintenance, and using weather-resistant substances are critical steps to make sure that your roof stays in top condition throughout the year. When you put money into Single Ply Roofing Louisville KY, you aren't only choosing a roofing device but also securing the toughness and protection of your private home in opposition to the elements.

Choosing Flat Roof Contractors: Expertise Matters

Your commercial building’s flat roof is a core aspect of your real estate property. It safeguards your property, including inventory, equipment, and employees. Therefore, when it comes to repairs and maintenance, choosing the right flat roof contractor matters.
Flat roofs require experts for installation
Flat roofs are complex roofs compared to pitched roofs as they require specialized techniques and knowledge for installation. Let’s explore the crucial aspects that contribute to the complexity of flat roofs.
Intricate drainage system: A flat roof relies on a drainage system with an intricate flow that prevents water pooling and leaks. Experienced flat roofing contractors will identify the right drainage design to ensure optimal flow of water to prevent future issues.
Selective roofing material: There are different materials chosen for flat roofs that depend on the desired lifespan, budget, and climate. Some of the materials include EPDM membranes, TPO, and modified bitumen. You will need guidance from a qualified contractor for your specific flat roof needs.
Nuanced flashing for watertight integrity: Experienced flat roof contractors can ensure proper flashing and prevent leaks around critical areas on the roof. As flat roofs will have seams, vents, and pipe penetrations, it is essential to prevent leaks and provide effective flashing systems.
Adhering to safety protocols: Flat roof work could be hazardous which means that contractors must follow a set protocol for safety. They must maintain necessary liability and worker’s compensation insurance. They should employ a crew that is trained in fall protection, including safety protocols specific to flat roof work.
Certifications of flat roof contractors
When it concerns installing a long-term flat roof, you must hire a contractor certified from reputable relevant to your specific roof type.
For instance, the NRCA or National Roofing Contractors Association offers certifications for various roofing systems. Furthermore, roofing material manufacturers provide specific certifications to contractors trained in the effective installation and maintenance of their products.
More importantly, hire flat roofing contractors that go beyond the basics of minimum requirements. For instance, at ASAP Roofing and Exteriors, we have a proven track record of working on commercial and residential flat roofs. We will proactively communicate with you on the project from its planning stage to commencement, completion, and throughout maintenance. We also provide a comprehensive warranty on our work and the materials added.
FAQs
Does commercial roofing work imply the same effort as in residential roofing work? Ideally, flat roofing installation is typically less extensive compared to a commercial roof. The difference in the size of the roof, its complexity of drainage systems, layers, HVAC connections, and material selections.
What is the best material used for a flat roof installation? The best material selection for a flat roof depends on the expertise of a flat roof contractor. They have to check several factors that the contractor has to look at before deciding upon suitable material that can be used for the roof. So, choosing installation materials depends on factors such as the climate, the client’s budget, the desired lifespan of the material, project complexity, and environmental impact.

Roofers - You Get What You Pay For When Finding a Roofing Contractor
Your roof is like a shield that protects your home or business. It's crucial to take good care of it because replacing a roof can be expensive. When it's time for a new roof, choosing the right roofing contractor in Miami is essential. Let's explore the important steps to find the best roofer for your needs.
Choosing a Roofer Based on Your Roof Type
Not all roofers are the same, and it's important to find one experienced with your specific type of roof. There are residential and commercial roofs, each with its unique requirements. For residential roofs, it's good if the roofer is certified with GAF, CertainTeed, Owens Corning, IKO, and Atlas Roofing. Commercial roofers should be skilled in flat roofs and certified with various commercial roofing manufacturers like Carlisle Syntec, Sika Sarnafil, GAF, Versico, and MuleHide. Always ask if the roofer has experience installing the exact type of roof you want.

Importance of Hands-on Experience in Roofing Construction
Not every roofer is knowledgeable about roofing construction. Some may be good at marketing but lack hands-on experience. It's crucial to choose a roofer who understands the ins and outs of roofing. A skilled roofing contractor will offer a free roof inspection and provide professional advice tailored to your specific needs. Whether your roof needs repairs or a full replacement, a reliable roofer will guide you on the best solution for your budget.
Recognizing the Value of Expertise in Roof Installation
Installing different types of roofs requires specific expertise. If you're interested in a metal shake tile roof, for example, make sure the roofer has experience installing that specific type and not just any metal roof. Whether it's large designer shingles, TPO roofs, slate roofs, or tile roofs, hiring a roofer with hands-on experience in the type you want is crucial. This ensures that your roof is installed correctly, providing the protection your home or business needs.
Transforming Your Home or Business with a Reliable Roofer
Choosing the right roofer is a vital decision for the well-being of your property. By following these steps and ensuring your roofer has the necessary experience, you can transform your home or business and add value to your property with a new, high-quality roof.

Round 3 - Chondrichthyes - Squatiniformes

(Sources - 1, 2, 3, 4)
Squatiniformes is an order of sharks with genera dating back to the Late Jurassic, however, today only one genus remains: Squatina, the “Angel Sharks.”
Angel Sharks differ from other sharks in having flattened bodies and broad pectoral fins that give them a resemblance to rays. They have eyes and spiracles on their dorsal surface and 5 gill slits on each side of their head. There are two small dorsal fins, no anal fin, and the lower lobe of the caudal fin is longer than the upper lobe. Angel Sharks are bottom-dwelling ambush predators, using their flattened anatomy and substrate-like patterning as camouflage. They bury themselves in loose sediment lying in wait for prey, which includes fish, crustaceans and various types of mollusks, to pass overhead. Their extensible jaws can rapidly snap upwards to capture prey which are then bit into with long, needle-like teeth.
Angel Sharks are ovoviviparous, producing litters of up to 25 pups. They occur worldwide in temperate and tropical seas, living on sandy seabeds. Most species inhabit shallow temperate or tropical seas, but a few species inhabit deeper water.
Propaganda under the cut:
Angel Sharks may remain camouflaged for weeks until a desirable prey crosses paths with them. However, under cover of night, they may sometimes take a more active approach and cruise along the ocean floor to seek out prey if hungry enough.
Unusually for sharks, female Sand Devils (Squatina dumeril) mature at a smaller size than males.
The rare Small-crested Angelshark (Squatina mapama) was only recently described in December 2021. It is only known from its type specimen.
The nominate Angelshark (Squatina squatina) is also called the “monkfish”. However, this is also the common name of various species of Lophiid anglerfish, or “goosefish” (one photo of which happens to have recently been passed around erroneously labeled as a wobbegong). Just another reason why common names don’t mean anything, and why I always include the scientific name when introducing a species!
Since Angel Sharks live fairly close to shore, they are relatively common as bycatch. Unfortunately many angel shark species are now endangered or critically endangered, and some are even directly fished for meat and shagreen, a type of leather used in wood finishing.
Be honest, if you were a fish or perhaps a squid going for a swim over this lovely patch of innocent-looking marine sediment, how screwed would you be?
