“In the last decades of the 19th century, Native Americans continued to be herded off their lands and forced into reservations. There, both men and women tried to maintain their intimate and cooperative relationship with the land, but reservation officials discouraged them from establishing cooperative farms and instead encouraged them to farm individual plots. As a result, Native American women gradually lost control of the land, and their social power within their tribes diminished. The equal relationship between Indian women and men changed and began to resemble the marital relations of the white settlers, in which a husband held economic and social power over his wife.
As their way of life eroded, both Native American women and men were forced to enter into a servile relationship with white settlers. Indian women, and some men, washed clothes and dishes and did other household chores for settlers. Some Indian women worked as nursemaids for white women. As their lands were scooped up by non-Indians eager to wrest a profit from the land, Native Americans’ communal, agrarian way of life vanished--and with it, the Native American women’s prominent tribal role.
…In the 1870s, Hispanic villages remained almost untouched by the growing presence of white, or Anglo, settlers. Some Hispanic men performed seasonal work for Anglo settlers for extra cash, then returned to their villages. This extra income enabled Hispanic farmers to purchase additional livestock or to open a store. By the 1880s, however, an expanding railroad system brought more white settlers to the Southwest. As more Anglos arrived, they forced their cultural values and business practices on Hispanics. They imposed the notion of private property, the use of property for commercial gain rather than for subsistence, and an economy based on money instead of barter.
Most important, they simply took land that had been commonly owned by Hispanic villagers. Lacking sufficient pastureland, villagers could hardly sustain their agrarian way of life on their small individual plots. Gradually, Anglos gained control over the local village economy throughout New Mexico, Arizona, and Colorado. With insufficient land to support themselves, Hispanics had no choice but to work for the new landowners. Hispanic women were no longer able to help support their communal life. They began to work for whites as seamstresses, cooks, launderers, domestics, hotel keepers, and even prostitutes. Like Native American women, they worked as day laborers for someone else instead of as farmers for their own people.
…In the mining camps of Butte, Montana, as well as in the desert outposts of New Mexico, women worked as prostitutes and owners of brothels and saloons. Women became prostitutes for a variety of reasons--to rebel against strict parents, to experience the adventure of a mining camp, or simply to earn a living when no other choice of work was available. Some women prospered and turned their earnings into lucrative real estate investments, but many women felt socially outcast and were at risk of contracting venereal diseases, which were often fatal, or of being physically abused by male customers. Prostitution was a lonely, insecure life spent mostly in dark, shabby hotel rooms.
A shameful chapter in the settling of the West concerns Chinese women who were sold into prostitution. These unsuspecting young women were either kidnapped in China and smuggled into American ports, or they were deceived by agents posing as matchmakers who lured them to America. Either way, they became virtual slaves, forced to service the sexual needs of Chinese immigrant male laborers working on the railroads and ranches of the West. Some found sympathetic support from female missionaries who sheltered them in special group homes and trained them to be wives and mothers. But the missionaries pressured them into entering marriages that were not always happy or compatible, and these unfortunate young Chinese women still had little control over their lives.”

Top Aces is celebrating the more than 2,000 flight hours and 1,500 sorties in the first year of Adversary Air advanced support (ADAIR) to 5ª Generation combat pilots at Eglin Air Bases, Florida and Luke, Arizona.
Reflecting on the success of the program, Top Aces recalls that it was an incredible year of "innovations" in the industry, with the first commercial fleet of F-16; the first contracted fighters that can be refueled in flight; and the first 4ª generation fighters with an open mission system that integrates active electronic scanning matrix radar (AESA), helmet-mounted signaling system (HMCS) and Link-16.
Top Aces states that it has raised the level of how USAF's 5ª generation pilots are training with the ADAIR contract, and expects with this many more years as part of the development of the combat leaders of the U.S. Armed Forces.

VIDEO: F-117 "Dark Angel" goes by highway to museum in Arizona

Departing from the Tonopah Test Range in Nevada on Sunday (13/11), an F-117A was transported by truck through Arizona highways to the Pima Air & Space Museum in Tucson.

The trip took two days and arrived today at the museum in Pima, where it has already been removed from the truck and already rests on its landing gear. The entire process was recorded by the Boneyard Safari team.
The Lockheed F-117A Nighthawk in particular (USAF 84-0810), named "Dark Angel" is joining the museum's collection and lined up for restoration to soon be on public exhibition.
Stealth with the paint removed slowly crossed the state. The F-117 called Dark Angel flew in the first Gulf War and also over the former Yugoslavia in 1999.
The F-117A Night Hawk "Dark Angel" aircraft made its first flight on January 18, 1985 and flew 26 missions with the 416th TFS and then an undisclosed number of operational missions with the 9th FS.

9. Contracted Landscape Maintenance Company not properly licensed
Agave was presented to our Board for consideration in October 2021 to replace the then current landscape company of Lawns by Les. As part of the effort, the management company representative to our Board stated in an email that she had reviewed credentials for Agave including the Better Business Bureau (“BBB”) website for customer reviews and stated all was OK. As agave’s performance continued to be sub-standard, I went out on the WWW to check for customer reviews. When I checked the BBB website there was a warning (red letters) regarding Agave: Photos 29, 30, 31
“CURRENT ALERTS FOR THIS BUSINESS Licensencing: On 4/30/2021 BBB confirmed that Agave Environmental Contracting, Inc. had not obtained a necessary license from Arizona Registrar of Contractors (ROC), BBB encourages you to contact the following agency or agencies to confirm this information: http://www.azroc.gov – (602) 542 1525.”

The licensing referenced was Agave’s license for Irrigation and Hardscape, one of which was voluntarily cancelled 4/30/17 and the other expired 4/30/2021. Agave was not licensed to perform residential irrigation and hardscape services (AZ CR21 license) for a total of 24 months; nine months prior to when our HOA contracted with them for those services (4/30/21–1/1/22) and for fifteen months (1/1/22–3/23/23) while on site actually performing Irrigation and Hardscape services for our HOA and a city of Glendale Park.
Once I found the license discrepancy, I notified our Board members and our AAM management representative. First pushback was that Agave’s General Commercial license covers irrigation and hardscape. It does for Commercial properties but specifically states “except for Residential” (in other words excluding residential). A few days later the President said our HOA was a commercial enterprise and thus the commercial engineering license covered their work. I check with the Maricopa County Treasurer’s office and was advised that our HOA is “residential” not commercial for tax purposes. The President than stated that he had called the State ROC and was advised that Agave’s license covered “landscape maintenance” I countered that he had been informed that the issue was “residential irrigation and hardscape” for which Agave did not have a required license (CR21). The next push back was that one of the Agave employees had an irrigation license. I asked to see it and was presented with a “certificate of training” for the individual not a license. Finally, Agave secured the proper license on 3/23/23 and now, 15 months later, was legal on our property.
We have since changed management companies. Unfortunately, our current management company CPM has had Agave as an “approved vendor” in their payment system and was offering Agave to other HOAs as “approved” during the period Agave did not have a residential irrigation and hardscape license. I have asked them to either do a more thorough review of vendors before they assign them “approved status”, because it is misleading to the HOAs they service, or call their list something other than approved vendors. The action is allegedly pending their management approval.
Though Agave’s performance, during the two years they have been our landscape services provider, was mostly sub-standard, our former Landscape Committee Chairman recommended Agave to several other area HOAs. Recently the President has said that Agave fired ARP1 HOA, truth is ARP1 HOA should have fired Agave when it was determined they were not licensed to perform services that they were performing on our property for more than a year.
