“I honestly can’t thank you enough.” You sighed in relief as you’d finally walked through the front door and unclipped Tank from his leash.
Tank ran off to his bed and began chewing on a toy, happy with his chaotic walk.
Colter smiled and let out a chuckle as he leaned against the open door frame, a gust of cool air wafting through the room, “There’s no way I was letting you get dragged home, at least not on your own.”
You grinned as you turned to face him, he looked much more handsome in the day light, his eyes practically glowing in the dim light of your homes entry way.
“Did you want to stay for a tea or coffee?” You blurred out, and you turned to busy yourself with some post on the side, suddenly shy and feeling hot under his stare. You had tried so hard to maintain eye contact, but his eyes bore so deep into yours you had to pull away for the fear he could read your very thoughts.
He rubbed the back of his head and smiled softly, “I would love to… but I have to be somewhere.”
You felt deflated, but forced a smile as you turned to face him and nodded, “No problem, thank you for saving me today.”
Colter smiled once more and turned to leave, and you let out a quiet sigh as you let your smile drop.
Suddenly he turned back around, and it almost startled you, and you forced yourself to straighten up from your defeated slump.
“Maybe… maybe another time though? I’d… like to maybe take you out to dinner.”
Your heart skipped a beat and you felt butterflies erupt inside you, your skin began to buzz, and you had to bite the inside of your cheek to stop from grinning like an idiot.
You pretended to consider it for a moment, and eventually nodded. “Okay. Yeah I’d like that.”
You had no idea that that would be the start of the absolutely whirlwind that was your relationship with Colter.
———————————
- Present Day -
Since the incident at the bakery, you couldn’t get Joe to return your calls or texts. It had been a week and as you sat in your usual spot at in the warm, cosy shop surrounded by nothing but cheerful smiles of blissful patrons, you were filled with nothing but dread as the minutes ticked by, and you wondered if Joe would show.
Every stranger that walked through the door had your head whipping up in anticipation, only to let out a defeated sigh of disappointment when you realised it wasn’t Joe.
You’d finished your second anxious cup of coffee and were about to call it a day, but as you stood to leave you felt a soft tap on your shoulder.
You turned and grinned.
“Joe.” You sighed in relief at the sight of your friend, but this was quickly replaced with guilt as you noticed the two black eyes no doubt caused by his broken nose, as he pulled his sunglasses down.
You wanted to cry but instead clasped a hand over your mouth to stifle your whimper, “I’m so sorry. I should have told you.” You whispered when you eventually managed to.
You reached a hand out to touch his arm sympathetically, but Joe pulled back as if you were trying to burn him with a hot iron.
Joe looked hesitantly at you, like he shouldn’t even be near you. You couldn’t help the hurt look on your face at first, but you quickly straightened up and reminded yourself it wasn’t his fault.
Joe sighed and shook his head sadly, “I… I just wanted to come and say goodbye in person.” He said, his eyes not quite reaching yours.
“What do you mean?” Your eyebrows creased together in confusion, “You’re not meant to finish your project until next June.”
Suddenly Joe made eye contact, but he looked angry. His bloodshot eyes felt almost accusatory. “They came to my apartment, Y/N. They kicked down my door. I should never have gotten involved with you. I never would have if I knew what I do now.”
You flinched, this revelation made you feel like you’d just been kicked in the chest, you felt so guilty but you also felt hurt.
“I… I’m sorry.” You struggled to say the words, you wanted to scream and sob at the same time. You were so angry at Colter, and so hurt by Joe. “But why did you come and say goodbye if all of that is true?”
Joe sighed, “Because I did get involved and I got attached. You’re the only friend I have here, I couldn’t go without saying goodbye, and God knows how much I’m risking just by being here.”
You nodded, you understood Colter had eyes everywhere, the last thing you wanted was Joe getting hurt again because of you.
Suddenly Joe pulled you into a hug, and you felt taken aback, startled almost.
“Thanks for being there for me these last few weeks, I really am gonna miss you. Maybe I’ll see you in another life.” He drawled, before letting go and swiftly leaving the bakery.
You stood there for a while in shock, unable to comprehend how Colter could do this to you.
If he really loved you as much as he claimed to, why was he doing this?
Suddenly you realised all the eyes in the room were on you and hushes voices gossiped about the commotion you always seemed to cause, heat pooled in your cheeks and anger began to bubble.
You snatched up your bag and stormed out of the bakery.
The entire drive had you replaying the incident with Colter in your head, and the look on poor Joe’s face, and you were just getting more and more angry.
You parked the car outside the all-too-familiar home that you called yours for over 5 years and sat behind the wheel for a moment. You tried to calm yourself, breathing through the tremors and gripping the steering wheel, but it was no use and the fury was now uncontrollable.
You got out of the car and stormed up the long, winding path to the front door of the manor, where your fist slammed angrily against the cold wood.
You could hear the echoes of your knocking on the inside, followed by footsteps against the hardwood floors you’d spent countless hours picking out years ago.
The door flew open and Colter stood, surprised, and shirtless in front of you. He was sweaty, panting, his hair wild, and you knew he’d been hitting his punching bag as he so often did when he was upset.
You scowled at him, how dare he be upset, he had no right.
You slammed both hands down on his bare chest as you pushed your way inside.
“How DARE you?!” You screamed, your hands now curled into fists against his broad chest.
Colters hands moved up to curl around your wrist, holding your hands in place. “What?” He asked, exasperated. This only pissed you off more.
You scoffed, “What? What? What do you mean, ‘what?’?!”
“I mean why are you so fucking pissed off?!” He raised his voice slightly to match yours.
“I’m beyond pissed off at this point, Colt! You had no fucking right to do that to Joe! This is MY life, my friend, do you have any idea how hard it is to make friends in a town that is terrified of you?” You were now gritting your teeth, Colter had never seen you like this before and a pang of guilt shot through him.
But he was not going to show it, “I don’t care, Y/N. He was after you, and you’re mine. I know for a fact you still love me, so don’t think for a second I’m gonna let anyone take you from me.” His voice was loud, stern, and he towered over you.
“Have you ever stopped to think that if you keep going the way you’re going I may eventually fall out of love with you, Colt?” You tried to pull your hands from his grip, and although he was gentle, your hands weren’t moving.
“No because I know you, Y/N, and I know our love. That isn’t something that just goes away, no matter how unhappy you are with what I do!” He shook your hands slightly with frustration, his eyes now pleading for you to admit what he knew to be true.
You took a small step back as you looked into his steely blue eyes, “You smug bastard. You really do think so highly of yourself.” You breathed out in exasperation.
“All you’re doing is delaying the inevitable, and I am fucking miserable without you. You and I both know you’re coming come at some point, please just save us both the pain and come home now.” His voice had softened considerably now, and he finally released your hands which fell limply to your side. You knew he was right, but you couldn’t bring yourself to admit it yet. You had told yourself you would at least try to get over him.
No… this time you don’t get what you want.” You said softly, deflated, the anger now simmering away to sadness.
You turned and walked out the door, wondering how you would ever get over this man who had an iron grip over you.
You got halfway down the drive when you felt a hand wrap around your wrist and spin you around.
The next thing you knew, Colters arms were around your waist and his lips were planted on yours. You gasped softly, at the familiarity, but also how different it felt to all those times before.
You melted against him for a second, your hands resting on his still sweaty chest, and allowed yourself just a moment of bliss before you pushed away and shook your head.
“Just… leave me alone.”
Without looking back you walked to your car, got in and drove out of the estate you once called home.
As you drove you looked back in the rear view mirror, at Colter as he watched you leave.
Something deep inside you told you that you were making a huge mistake, but you were too stubborn to listen to it.
——————————
- 6 Years Earlier -
You buzzed with anticipation and nerves as you finished getting ready for your date with Colter.
The weather was dreadful, and torrential rains uncommon for that time of year had flooded the cold, dark streets outside, but you were determined to make it to town for your date no matter what.
You smoothed out your brand new dress and checked yourself in the mirror for the 10th time.
You looked perfect, but you felt so nervous that you had to check again before you eventually made it to the front door.
You gave Tank a fuss as you left and were suddenly overcome with guilt for leaving him on his own for the first time, however this was luckily short lived as he happily curled up on the couch and went straight to sleep.
You sighed as you stepped out onto the front porch and opened your umbrella, your cab had just pulled up but the short distance between your home and the sidewalk was sure to drench you unless you had some sort of cover.
“Evening ma’am.” The older gentleman answered as you climbed in and shook off your umbrella before rolling it back up. “You off on a date?”
You smiled, “Yeah, is it that obvious?”
The gentleman smiled, “Not overly, but you do seem nervous.”
You made small talk all the way into town and paid the driver, getting your umbrella ready before you opened the door.
“Have a good night ma’am, you be safe now.” He said as you climbed out of the cab and back out into the bad weather.
You thanked the driver and walked down a side street towards the restaurant.
As you approached you noticed Colter standing outside. He wore a slightly unbuttoned white shirt and blue jeans, his short hair speckled with rain drops and obviously getting very wet without an umbrella as he waited for you, soggy flowers wilting under the pressure of the heavy droplets.
You laughed in surprise as you walked up to him. “What are you doing?” You gasped.
A huge grin spread across his face as he noticed you approaching him, “Waiting for you.”
As you got closer you noticed how his clean pressed white shirt stuck to him, his toned chest on display as the material turned translucent.
You pulled your eyes away, “Why didn’t you wait inside?” Your mouth slightly agape in shock. “You must be freezing!”
Colter, on the other hand, didn’t seem to notice the cold, and couldn’t take his eyes off of you. “You look… incredibly beautiful.” He breathed, ignoring your question.
You felt yourself blush, but you needed to maintain your composure even though he made you feel like melting right in front of him. You stepped forward so that Colter was under the protection of your umbrella.
“Here, before you get completely drenched.” You smiled up at him. Too late, you realised, but you liked standing this close to him.
You tried not to actually touch him, teetering on the absolute outer edge of the umbrellas protection.
“Well… I don’t think we can go in there while you’re…damp.” you gestured at the fancy restaurant and then at Colter. “I think I know a place we can go and dry off for a while.”
Colter nodded and bit the inside of his cheek, “Lead the way.” He chuckled.
You lead Colter down another dark little side street and through a courtyard, where a soft cosy light lit up the cobblestone from a window that beckoned you, the smell of basil and tomatoes compelling you to follow. It was a tiny Italian restaurant that you had frequented over the years, nothing fancy but the food was some of the best you’d ever had.
You looked up at Colter to explain why you’d picked this place, but you were surprised to see that he was already staring longingly down at you. “What?” You asked in surprise.
Colter shook his head, and tucked a stray hair behind your ear, “Nothing, it’s just… every time I think I have you figured out, you go and do something that makes me realise I probably never will.”
“What do you mean?” You chuckled, shivering slightly under his touch.
“Most girls would insist on the fancy dinner, the nice restaurant, they wouldn’t adopt the biggest, bounciest dog from the shelter, or go out to a club they hated just to make their sister happy, they’d probably be put off that I didn’t think to bring an umbrella-“ you cut him off by grabbing his hand with your free one as you stood in front of the little restaurant.
“Let’s get one thing straight, if you’re going to date me you will realise pretty quickly that the only thing I give a damn about is whether or not you’re a good person, I don’t need fancy… I need real.”
Colter grinned and nodded, “So we’re dating then, huh?”
You rolled your eyes playfully, “Hmm… barely.” You joked.
He took your other hand and gently removed the umbrella from your grip, the heavy rain quickly drenching you as you gasped at the feeling and began to laugh. Colter threw the umbrella onto the cobblestone, and wrapped a strong arm around your waist, pulling you into him.
“What are you doing?” You asked, your heart thudding violently against your rib cage.
“I’m making us even.” He gestured with a nod to your wet hair.
You breathed out a nervous laugh as Colter bent down and pressed his lips against yours, and you felt like the air was sucked from your lungs.
His lips were gentle, but the kiss was purposeful and eager. His hand came up to cup your jaw and you sighed into him, giving yourself into the feeling.
Eventually you pulled away, the raindrops trickling down your back causing you to shiver.
Colter smiled adoringly down at you, “How about we get inside?”

The matchmaking thing sounds so fun! I hope guys are welcome to apply. I'm short, I play hockey. Pretty blandly wholesome in the sense of liking disney and cooking and christmas. I have a few hidden tattoos though. I'm blonde, wear glasses, and dress in sweaters and jeans/khakis for the most part. I'm a bank teller/student as of now, working on my pilots license. What does the magic matchmaking guru have to say?
(That DOES sound wholesome!)
I match you with Colter Stevens (Source Code)!
Let’s pretend this is a happy world and Colter didn’t die and got dragged into the whole time travel thing.
Colter seriously needs some wholesomeness in his life after all he has been through (the time he served as a pilot in Afganistan, not the time travel thingy)
He’s a hella good cook but never has anyone to cook for.
So he’s super excited to cook for you.
The fact that you’re also in the kitchen to help him out makes his heart flutter.
He’s too worked up, he ends up making a mess.
He’s nervous because it’s the first time in a long time he has an intimate relationship with someone.
He’s low-key a Disney enthusiast.
Scratch that, Colter is HIGH-KEY A DISNEY ENTHUSIAST.
He has never had a smooth relationship with his parents. My point is he has never been to Disneyland.
That would be a perfect place for the first date, don’t you think? And the second, and the third, and the fifth... Okay, Colter isn’t allowed to decide where you two go on a date anymore.
He loves Christmas, or at least, he learned to love holidays since he started going out with you.
Colter loves the family aspect of holidays because that’s what he treasures the most in his life.
Being with you makes him feel alive and hopeful.

Mine For The Taking: Part 1
MobAU - Colter Stevens x Reader
Summary: Colter Stevens - your ex fiancé - is a dangerous, smart, powerful mob leader, dead set on winning you back and taking down everyone and everything in his way.
Nothing will stop him from getting back the woman he loved and lost. He won’t take no for an answer, but he may need to learn a thing or two along the way.
Warnings: Eventual Smut, Fluff, Angst, Violence, References to Drugs and Alcohol, References to Illegal Activities and Crime, Mobster

18+ Only
—————————————
Colter Stevens was not one to take no for an answer, but the day you packed your bags and walked out the door was the day he realised his stony bravado and scary reputation wasn’t enough to give him everything he’d always wanted.
At first he had thought you’d come back, like you had all those times before, but after a month of no contact, of trying to call you and having found you’d changed your number, of turning up at your mothers door only for her to turn him away with sad eyes, had he finally realised this time was different.
That was when Colter Stevens realised he needed to get you back, even if it meant changing the very thing that he swore he’d never change.
———————————
- 6 years earlier -
You stood in line for the nightclub, mostly disgruntled with having been dragged out on such a cold night when you really just wanted to be at home, cuddled up on the couch with a hot cup of tea and a blanket draped around you, but also frustrated with yourself that you hadn’t thought to bring a coat.
You rubbed the ever erupting goosebumps from your bare arms and hopped from one foot to another as you tried to judge how much longer you’d be outside for, and how on Earth everyone else seemed completely unbothered by the frosty December breeze that nipped at your skin.
You glared at your sister out of the corner of your eye, a huge grin spread across her face at the prospect of a good night out, not even slightly concerned by your impatience.
Eventually you found yourself at the front of the queue, relief washing over you. You were so ready to walk into the warmth of the sweaty, grotty night club, the music so loud you barely heard the bouncer speak at first.
“The club is full. No more entries until someone leaves.” He repeated himself, and your shoulders deflated as you realised all the waiting out in the cold was in vain.
Your sister groaned audibly, “What?! Come on man, we’ve been waiting for like twenty minutes, I’m sure you could squeeze in a couple more?”
The bouncer crossed his arms, ignoring your sister as he straightened his back in front of the door.
You sighed as a strong shiver passed, and took your sisters arm. “Let’s just go, I’m sure we can find somewhere else that’s a little easier to get in… and less loud.”
You and your sister Morgan were complete opposites. She was the party girl, the younger sister who behaved all throughout high school and unleashed her inner wild child when she turned 21.
You, on the other hand, had had your fun in high school, a good girl but sometimes rebellious without your parents even knowing it, and now you were tired, you craved the quiet life. Your idea of a good time was reading a good book in a bakery or coffee shop, or curling up by the fire in your little two bedroom cottage on the outskirts of town. You even planned on maybe adopting a dog, a buddy to go camping with or to keep you company on cold, dark nights, but as far as nights out went, you preferred a few glasses of wine at a pub with your friends, nothing over the top.
Your sister groaned audibly but turned to leave, and a part of you was relieved you had gotten your way, eventually, when suddenly a strong, silky voice floated over the loud music from the doorway.
“Let them in.”
You gritted your teeth as you and your sister turned back around. The man stood behind the bouncer, around the same heigh, but less stocky. He was well built but slim, with dark buzzed hair, blue eyes, young.
“Yay! Y/N, let’s go!” Your sister squealed. You forced a tight lipped smile at the bouncer as you passed him and nodded at the handsome stranger as a insincere thank you.
You could only imagine he was the manager, he didn’t look too much older than you, but as you passed you noticed a smart suit that you could guess cost a fortune, and no managerial badge pinned to it.
The nightclub really was full to the brim, sweaty people packed in like sardines as they danced to the deafening music, the air stale with fake fog and alcoholic breath.
You and Morgan squeezed your way to the bar to order drinks, and then Morgan was straight off into the the tightly packed dance floor. You decided it best to hang back, you didn’t feel in the mood to have your drink sloshed all over the already sticky floor, or to be elbowed by drunken lovers.
You stood against the bar, sipping at your over priced mojito and waiting for the Dutch courage to kick in, trying to spot your sister which was an almost impossible task from where you stood, when you felt someone stand next to you, their suited arm brushing gently against your skin.
You looked up and immediately recognised the piercing blue eyes of the man who had let you and your sister in.
He grinned down at you and you were taken aback by how much more handsome he was when he smiled.
“Hi.” You said, voice slightly raised due to the booming music that threatened to leave you hard of hearing for the next two days.
“Hey.” He grinned back, calm and sure.
You stood in comfortable silence watching the crowd for what felt like forever, when he decided to speak up.
“I’ve never seen you here before.”
You looked up at him and chuckled, “Yeah, not my scene.”
He nodded and tipped his head to the side in thought. “What is your scene?”
You hummed over the music, “Let’s just say you’d sooner catch me pouring over a good book in a coffee shop somewhere than where I am right now.” Although you weren’t sure why you were engaging with this strange man, but something inside you was making you spill the beans.
“Good to know.” He smiled softly down at you, “I’m Colter.”
“I’m Y/N. You the manager of this place, Colter?”
Colter scrunched up his face and laughed, “Yeah, something like that.”
Before you could respond, your sister burst out of the crowd, seemingly unaware of the handsome man by your side. She grabbed your arm and pulled you onto the dance floor.
Just before you disappeared into the sea of people, you glanced back at Colter, who’s grin had now slightly faltered, and waved him goodbye.
“See you around, I guess.”
—————————————
- Present day -
You had been staying with your mom for a little over a month after your split with Colter at this point, adamant you would not go back this time.
You loved Colter, oh you loved him so much it ached in your bones, but you knew he wasn’t a good man. He was bad to the bones… but he was good to you, for the most part.
He would never lay a finger on you, but that didn’t stop the long nights away from home.
He would never call you names or degrade you, no, you were his prized possession, but that didn’t stop him from ignoring your wishes.
He would never cheat, and his eye never wandered once, but that didn’t stop him from cheating at life.
The number of arguments you’d had, all the ultimatums ignored, it was too much.
The amount of times he’d come home in the dead of night, no telling where he’d been, covered in someone else’s blood, it terrified you.
What was he really doing all those nights, when you were home alone and men turned up at your door demanding what was theirs, holding you at gunpoint until your fiancé returned home.
Of secretive talks in his study, of apologetic gifts and sweet talk, of people darting into the nearest store front as you walked hand in hand into town.
You didn’t know Colter, not really, you knew he was into some shady business, but he never opened up to you, always an excuse that didn’t fly.
But, oh you loved him so much. He was the love of your life. The man of your dreams. The smile, the eyes, the humour, the romance. He made you feel like the most important thing in the world when he wasn’t working.
Like he would kill for you.
Your mom had told you Colter had been by every day for the last 3 weeks, and she’d sent him away at your wishes, but she felt like you owed it to yourself to speak to him, just for the closure.
You had refused. It would be too painful and you knew if you saw those sparkling blue eyes and dazzling smile you’d go right back to him.
You had actively avoided all the spots you knew he would be, as well as the places he knew you frequented, and the only place of solace for you was a hidden gem in the middle of town, a tiny bakery that had only recently opened.
Every Friday, when you know Colter had his “meetings”, you would sneak off and spend the afternoon reading and drinking coffee. It was a nice escape from the feelings you were having.
One sunny afternoon, the bakery quieter than usual, as you sat reading The Shining for the 10th time, you noticed movement out of the peripheral of your eye, pulling you out of your trance.
“Excuse me, miss?” A deep, Southern voice rang.
Your head shot up and you made eye contact with a tall man, untraditionally handsome.
“I hope you don’t mind me saying, but I see you in here often and… well, you seem mighty lonely. I’m not trying to come onto you or anything-“ he chuckled awkwardly, a nice sound, “but, are you after some company, perhaps?”
After a moment you smiled, he really was just being friendly, and his voice was soothing. You nodded and gestured to the empty chair in front of you.
“Thank you, some company would be nice.” You agreed.
He sat down and smiled, extending a tanned hand, “I’m Joe, by the way.”

Mine For The Taking: Part 2
MobAU - Colter Stevens x Reader
Warnings: Fluff, Smut, Angst, Violence and Mob related content, Swearing, Alcohol and Drug mentions, Probably a lot of inaccuracies and lack of proof reading sorrrryyyyyy
- Part One Here -

18+ Only
———————————
- 6 years earlier -
You’d woken up that morning particularly determined to find yourself a furry companion, your home too quiet for your liking.
You got dressed after your morning coffee and made your way on foot through the middle of town to the dog shelter 15 minutes away.
The sun was pleasantly warm against the icy late December air and you inhaled deeply, excitement pulsing through you as you reminded yourself to pick up some more dog toys and other supplies on your way back, to go with the food and bed you’d already stockpiled weeks ago.
Eventually you reached the shelter and as you walked in, you realised it was a lot quieter than you’d expected. The sound of barking and excited yelps were not filling the echoe-ey chamber, but rather just the sound of your own shoes against the cold concrete floor.
An older woman sat behind a desk scribbling out paperwork, her eyes flitting up as you reached her, before immediately going back to the work at hand.
“There’s only one left.” She mumbled.
You smiled, that was good news, you were glad the others had been adopted and it would also make the picking process much easier.
“That’s fine by me!” You chirped, excited to meet your new furry friend.
The woman looked up at you from under her glasses and sighed heavily, before lifting herself from her seat and summoning for you to follow her.
You walked down a long stretch of empty kennels, before eventually stopping right at the very back. The woman opened the kennel and out ran what you can only describe as a horse, his tail swishing through the air as soon as he laid eyes on you.
With a big “Ooph” and two heavy paws on your chest, you were sent to the ground in a fit of giggles and sloppy dog kisses.
“Well. He obviously likes you.”
————————————
- Present Day -
You had enjoyed becoming friends with Joe over the past couple months, and meeting with him weekly had helped you overcome some of the dark feelings you’d been plagued with since leaving Colter. They didn’t stop your feelings for Colter, because at the end of the day you didn’t feel that way about Joe, but he became a nice distraction.
Joe was from a small town in the South, and had moved to the area for work, and it was nice to have someone who had no idea who you were or your ties to someone as powerful as Colter.
As happy as you were to have finally made a friend who wasn’t terrified of your connections, you felt the air leave your lungs as if a truck had hit you square in the chest as you rounded the corner to your mothers house after having walked your dog.
Colter stood speaking to your mother at the front door, pleading with her to let him see you, when you caught your mothers eye and Colter turned around.
“Shit.” You whispered under your breath as you slowly walked towards him. You nodded at your mother to let her know it was ok and to go inside, and unclipped your dog from his lead, “Go inside, Tank.” You whispered, and the dog ran over to your mother.
Colter began to walk towards you, a look of relief in his eyes. “Y/N…”
You held up a hand to stop him, “Colt… you need to stop this. I told you I’m done, it’s doing neither of us any good seeing one another.”
Colter shook his head and grabbed your arms gently, “Please, just… hear me out…”.
You pulled out of his grip easily and shook your head, “No. You had 6 years to explain things. I asked you… I asked you so many times and you always brushed me off. You kept so many things from me Colt, it’s too late…”
You turned away and began to walk towards the house when you felt his strong hands grab your waist. You immediately felt goosebumps.
Colter turned you around to face him but you avoided eye contact, you knew he was trying to use his baby blues to lure you back in, and he knew his eyes were your weakness.
“Y/N, please… I know I’ve made some mistakes, and I took you for granted, it took me losing you to realise what needs to be done. Please give me another chance, and I will tell you everything.” He plead with you, you could hear the slight tremble in his usually stern voice.
You stopped for a second, you actually considered hearing him out, your heart ached for him. You lifted your head and looked at him properly, and Colter flinched as he saw the pain in your eyes, realising that was all caused by him. He pulled you towards him and wrapped his arms around you, your head nestled into his chest.
You enjoyed the feeling, you’d longed for this since you left him, and your heart began to race.
“I love you. You hear me? You’re my everything.” He whispered.
For a second, you melted into him, relishing in the feeling of his broad chest against your head and the sound of his heart thudding against your ear. You were reminded of the cold nights when you lay against him on the couch, curled up by the fire and watching your favourite movies, or of the hot nights where cuddling in your underwear turned into something far saucier.
Then you were reminded of all the nights you spent alone, worried about where he was and if he was ok, or the nights were you had found yourself with dangerous men in your house.
You pushed yourself off of him and glared. Colter seemed surprised for a moment, and tried to reach for you, but you stepped back and shook your head.
“You will never change, Colt. You don’t know how to, I can’t put myself through that again.” And with one final sad look at the man you love, you turned around and went inside.

One thing you hadn’t really considered as you signed the adoption papers for your new friend, Tank, was that a dog as big as him would pull. And pull he did, like a steam train.
Walking him back to your house was a struggle, the heels of your shoes severely worn down as he dragged you nearly the entire way.
This didn’t dampen your excitement however, but you did make a mental note to get him trained and maybe get some better shoes for walks.
One cold but sunny morning you decided to take Tank for a walk early, while the parks were quiet and he could have a good run about. You slipped on your favourite oversized sweatshirt, jeans and your comfiest sneakers, before you stepped outside.
It was only halfway down the street you realised how icy the sidewalk was, but Tank was already in full blown walk mode, and proceeded to drag you down the street.
You yelped as the grip from your shoes disappeared on the ice and you began to quite literally skate down the sidewalk, your dog none the wiser.
A horrible thought overcame you as you got near the main road in town, what if you wouldn’t be able to stop Tank from running with you into head on traffic.
“Tank! Stop! Hey!” You squealed, but Tank was unbothered.
You tried to dig your heels in but they provided little traction against the icy ground.
“Tank!” You were nearing dangerously close to the main road, cars wizzing left and right, probably blissfully unaware of your situation.
Panic overcame you and you realised you only had one option to save yourself and your dog from a painful death.
“Crap..” you muttered, and you slid down onto your bottom, embarrassed but hoping this would at least make it harder for your horse of a dog to pull you.
It worked, mostly, he was still pulling but he now wasn’t getting very far as you used your body weight as an anchor.
“Taaaank!” You whined hopelessly, unsure of what do do next, and scared to stand. He tugged and tugged excitedly, pedestrians terrified of the sheer size of him and refusing to come near you to help.
Just as you were about to fish out your phone and call your sister for help, a shadow appeared over your shoulder.
“Need a hand?” A familiar voice sounded. You looked over your shoulder and huffed out a surprised laugh.
“Uhhh… yeah. He’s new.” You chuckled, relief but hot embarrassment washing over you.
Colter took ahold of the leash, his steady frame unmoving when Tank attempted to lurch down the sidewalk again. You let go of the leash and Colter extended a hand to help you up, which you took gratefully.
“Thank you.” You smiled sheepishly as you brushed yourself off. “I adopted him last week, he’s a little… bouncy.”
Colter chuckled as he patted his knees and Tank’s interest was suddenly on him. Big, slobbery kisses left slimy lines all over Colters camel ranch jacket as he scratched behind the big dogs ears.
“Oh, I’m so sorry!” You reached out to take the leash from him and without realising what you were doing you began wiping the slobber from Colters chest with your sleeve.
“It’s ok, I don’t mind.” He chuckled.
You continued to wipe him down frantically, trying to clean him up as best as you could while Tank sniffed his legs.
“Hey, it’s okay.” Colter said in a more sincere voice, and when you didn’t respond, he gently took your hand and held it there for a moment, until you stopped and looked up at him. “I have dogs, I know what it’s like.”
You sighed, a bit more relieved, “I think I’m in over my head.” You groaned, “But I’m already attached, I guess I’m stuck with this big oaf.”
Colter smiled, that dazzling smile, his eyes creasing slightly, and suddenly you both realised how close you were to one another, and that he was still holding your hand in the air.
He quickly let go and you both took a small, awkward step back.
“Uhm… can I help you get back to your house?” He offered sheepishly.
You laughed softly as Tank pulled on his lead, “Yeah, thank you, I think that would be best.”

- Present Day -
You got ready for your weekly meet up with Joe, a friend you had really come to cherish over the last few weeks, and said goodbye to your mother and Tank as you gathered your keys and purse.
“Oh honey?” Your mom called out just as you were about to leave, “Colter didn’t come by yesterday, what did you two talk about?”
You flinched as your stomach twisted, the statement surprisingly hurtful, and blinked away tears that suddenly sprang to your eyes. You hadn’t expected it to feel this bad when he finally stopped chasing you, you knew it was what was best, but it crushed you.
“Nothing. I just told him it’s really over. I’ll see you later.” You forced a smile and a little wave as you slipped out the door.
You cried in the car the whole way to the bakery, wiping your eyes and sniffling as you pulled up and stopped the car. After a few deep breaths you checked your makeup and got out of the car.
The bakery was a little busier than usual today, but Joe had arrived already and saved you a spot in the far corner, he waived you over and you put on a smile as you sat down.
“Hey, are you okay?” He asked immediately, the dim light doing little good hiding your puffy eyes and red nose.
You nodded, “Yeah, just a rough morning.” You let out a wet laugh, and shook your head to try and stop the next bought of tears that threatened to spill over.
“Hey…” Joe reached over and cupped your hands in his, a sympathetic creased eyebrow look on his tanned face. “Is it Colter?”.
You nodded, “Yeah, I think he’s finally got the message. I just didn’t expect it to hurt this much though, you know?”
Joe rubbed your hand with his thumb, and you pulled away slowly, folding your hands in your lap. “Sorry, I don’t think I’m gonna be the best company today, I think I should just go.”
You went to stand but his hand shot out and wrapped around your wrist to stop you.
“Hey, wait, we don’t need to talk about him. Stay, have some tea, or cake or whatever, it’s on me today.” He smiled softly, his southern charm shining through at your time of need.
You laughed softly and nodded, “Okay…Thank you, I think the distraction would be good.”
You sat back down and smiled at Joe with appreciation, “I’m lucky to have you as a friend, Joe.”
“Well, it’s funny you should mention that, I actually wanted to talk to you-“
As if on queue, a loud rattling noise alerted you towards the bakery window, stopping Joe mid sentence, and the once loudly buzzing room suddenly turned eerily quiet as someone banged violently against the reinforced glass.
Colter.
Face red with fury, he pointed an accusatory finger, not at you, but at the man that sat across from you.
“Oh no.” You whispered, horror etched across your face as Colter tore the front door open, the bell jingling violently and threatening to fall to the floor.
“You!!” Colter roared at Joe.
“Shit.” Joe muttered under his breath as he stood to his feet.
The two pretty much matched one another in height, but Colter was more muscular, where Joe was lean. Colter almost looked like he towered over Joe as they came face to face with one another.
“So you’re the fucker who’s taken my girl away from me, huh?” Colter spat.
You stood to your feet and immediately put yourself in between them, a hand on Colters heaving chest to push him back. He was seething under your touch.
“What are you doing??” You wailed, “Joe is my friend! You don’t get to tell me who I can or can’t be friends with!”
“No, I see exactly what he’s doing here, Y/N, the way he looks at you, how he’s trying to win you over. You think I didn’t know about you meeting up with him every week?” He growled over you at Joe.
“So you’ve been getting people to watch me?” You asked in exasperation.
Colter was silent for a moment, his eyes scanning yours for the right thing to say.
“I was worried about you.” He replied simply.
You scoffed, “No, you were just worried I’d moved on.”
“Have you?” He bit back, glaring again at Joe behind you.
“It’s going to take me a lot longer than 2 months to move on from you, Colt.” You admitted, “Don’t make it harder than it needs to be.”
Colters face softened, and his eyes darted back to yours. For a moment there was silence as everyone in the bakery sat and watched, and Colter took your hand, rubbing his rough thumb over the soft back of your hand, “I will get you back.” He stated.
With that Colter turned to leave, and you stood on shaky legs as you took in what had just happened. Joe rounded to face you, a worried expression evident as grabbed your arm gently and guided you to sit down.
As he straightened he shot a hot glare at the back of Colters head. “She deserves someone who can give her more of themselves than you did, and that’s not hard.”
Colter stopped in his tracks, and with one fell swoop he turned on his heels, took three steps forward and punched Joe square in the nose, sending him flying backwards into his seat.
Blood spewed from his broken nose as he gasped for air in surprise, and you looked between him and Colter in horror.
Colter shook the pain from his hand, “Don’t you ever tell me what I can or can’t give my girl, you fuck.”

- Present Day -
You busied yourself that day with work, in between loads of laundry and trying to keep Tank entertained in your moms small house.
He had grown used to the sprawling lawns and many rooms in the house where you and Colter lived, but, despite your moms growing disdain, you managed to find little ways to entertain the big, bouncy old dog.
Her sofa had become lopsided with the weight of the giant dog laying in his favourite spot day after day, and the floorboards had grown somewhat scuffed from his huge paws bounding up and down the hall from the bedrooms to the kitchen when you sneakily threw his ball indoors. Her perfectly manicured tiny garden now nothing more than a muddy pit where he had done his zoomies in such tight circles.
But she didn’t mind too much, she loved you and grew to love Tank, and as much as she missed her privacy and freedom, she would have you stay with her as long as needed.
What she didn’t love, was the constant knocking on the front door. Day after day, sometimes even nights, gifts and flowers and chocolates and balloons, all for you and all thrown away.
Everything made its way into the trash the second it landed in your hands, and it showed absolutely no signs of stopping.
You emptied the trash for a third time that day, threw the clothes in the dryer and closed your laptop, fully aware you were too distracted to get any work done.
“Mom, do you need anything from the store?” You called as you threw your jumper on and slipped your feet in your shoes.
Your mom poked her head out of her bedroom, clearly busy with work herself. “Yes! Please could you grab some mushrooms for tonight’s dinner? Totally slipped my mind.”
You grinned, “Ohh, what are you making?”
“It’s a surprise, chicken.” She said as she dipped back into her room. “Thanks and be safe!” She called.
“See you in a bit, love you!” You called as you walked out the door.
The air was crisp but beginning to shift from icy winter weather to slightly more bearable pre-spring, and you sucked in a deep breath which was followed by a sigh. You were tired of feeling the way you did.
You felt like you were grieving, only the man you grieved was still here and refused to let you move on from him.
You were angry. Angry at what Colter had done and angry that you still loved him.
You were nauseas, all the time, the conflicting feelings and emotions wrecking havoc on your stomach and your nerves.
You walked through the quickly darkening street towards to small store where you did most of your shopping, your mind absent as you contemplated what to do and what to say to Colter, and you didn’t hear the car following behind you slowly on the quiet street.
The cars headlights were off and you only snapped out of your trance and realised someone was following you when you heard the car door open.
You swung around to face a tall, bulky man, who had a scowl across his face. He did not look friendly but you forced a smile anyway.
“Can I help you?” You straightened up and asked confidently, your arms uncrossing and falling to your side, your fists inadvertently clenching.
“You need to come with me.” The man stated, and began to walk towards you.
You stepped back and held up a hand, “No, I don’t think I will. Who are you? Do you work for Colter?”
The man continued walking towards you as you walked backwards, he chuckled menacingly, “No, but you’re going to bring Colter to me.”
Your body went cold, you realised you were dealing with someone who Colter obviously had pissed off, and turned on your heel.
You ran down the side walk and heard the car door closing, and the car speeding up behind you.
You could see the small store in the distance, convinced you could make it there and get help.
You glanced over your shoulder and noticed the car had mounted the curb and was directly behind you, closing the gap quickly.
You ran into the street in a panic, hoping a car might drive by and you could flag them down, but the street was eerily quiet and the man swerved off of the sidewalk in pursuit of you.
Your lungs were starting to burn as your legs ached under you, carrying you as best as they could, but so badly wanting to give up.
You pushed yourself as fast as you could towards the sidewalk on the other side of the street, where it was dotted with trees and you thought you may be able to evade the man in the car.
The street was wide and it felt like you’d never reach the other side, your legs turning to jelly. You began to panic as you heard the car get closer and the headlights that had now been turned on got brighter and brighter.
Suddenly, almost too quickly, you felt the cold, hard metal of the car hit your lower back, and a searing pain jolted through you as you rolled onto the bonnet and over the top of the car.
You landed with a heavy thud behind the car on the ice cold tar, and tried to gasp for breath. The air had been knocked from your lungs, and you began to panic, trying desperately to draw a breath.
Your vision began to blur and just as you thought you might pass out, you drew a deep, desperate breath and began to cough and splutter, quickly trying to push yourself up off the ground.
You had definitely hit your head and more than likely broken your wrist, as the searing pain from pushing yourself off the ground had you feeling dizzy.
The man had climbed out of the car now and was walking slowly over to you, not at all worried that you may run again, you thought for a second that maybe he liked the chase.
You hobbled as best as you could on a sore leg but ultimately were no match for the big man. You felt his hand in your hair and he yanked you backwards into him.
The man grabbed you by the broken wrist and you screamed, but he didn’t seem to care.
“HELP!” You tried to scream, but it sounded like nothing more than a pathetic yelp over the blood rushing to your eardrums.
He squeezed your wrist tightly and yanked your hair before pushing you into the back of his car, and then your vision went black.

- 6 years earlier -
After your date you started spending a lot of time with Colter, and he treated you like a princess every time.
Some days he would show up at your door with roses and whisk you off for a surprise date, some nights he’d cook for you in his beautiful home, other nights you’d just curl up on your couch and tell each other about your lives in front of the fire with a glass of wine.
About 2 months into seeing one another, you hadn’t heard from Colter for a couple of days, and you began to worry.
It wasn’t like Colter to go quiet, he was the one who insisted on lunch dates and phone calls and almost constant gooey text messages.
You picked up the phone and dialled his number, but it went straight to voicemail.
You felt it was weird but went about your day, thinking he would call you when he was free.
The day passed and night fell without word, and you began to grow more and more worried.
You picked up the phone and called the only
person you could think of.
“Morgan, I need your help.”
—————————————
- Present Day -
You woke up with a fuzzy head in a dimly lit room, and it took you a good long few seconds to remember what had happened.
You tried to stand but yelped in pain as taught ropes pulled against your ankles and broken wrist, and tears sprang to your eyes.
“Hello?” You whimpered, “please… let me go!”
You knew it was futile trying to plea, but you didn’t know what else to do. You knew threats would merely be laughed at.
You got no response, and the constant throbbing in your head accompanied by the fear in your chest made you feel sick, so you closed your eyes and breathed.
You sat and breathed in the dimly lit room for what felt like forever when you heard footsteps approaching and a door open.
The door creaked open and the footsteps got closer. You opened your eyes and tried to sit up straight through the dizziness, your vision blurred and spinning.
The man approached, this time a smile across his stony face. It looked unnatural and cold.
“Where’s your phone?” He asked.
You looked up at him confused and didn’t answer.
The man’s smile dropped from his face and he was suddenly inches from yours.
“I said where’s your fucking phone?!” He spat.
“In my bag. I had a bag with me, I don’t know where it is.” You sobbed, terrified.
The man straightened back up slowly and walked out of the room. He was gone for a few minutes before he returned with your phone at hand, the screen damaged but still working.
He flashed the phone at your face to unlock it and began scrolling through your contacts, and then dialled.
The phone barely even rang when you heard a familiar but faint voice on the other end.
“Y/N, baby, I’m so glad you called.” Colters voice rang through the tinny speakers. The man removed the phone from his ear and put it to yours, nodding at you to speak.
You kept quiet, unsure of if you wanted to bring Colter into whatever situation this was.
“Y/N?” He asked, his voice clearer now and worried.
The man scowled, “Speak.” He demanded.
“Babe, who’s with you?” Colters voice now in full blown concern.
“I’m… in some basement, I think. I’m hurt, and they’re trying to get you to come, but Colt… don’t come. It’s not safe-“ you sobbed.
The man snatched the phone away from your ear and placed it to his. “Stevens, this is your last warning. Come to 212 Ainsley Place with all of the cash in the next 2 hours or your pretty little pet is dead.”
The man hung up and threw your phone at your lap, where it bounced and fell to the floor. He looked at you with disgust and left the room.
You sat in the dim room and began to really panic. You knew if Colter turned up, this man would have no issue finishing you both off, with or without the money.
You began to sob as you struggled against your binds, desperate to reach your phone to tell Colter not to come, but it was no use. The ropes pulled at your broken wrist and the pain was too much, so you defeatedly slumped back into the chair.
You would never forgive yourself if you were the reason that anything had happened to Colter, even if you were still angry with him. You still loved him more than you could comprehend, and now you feared for his life, and yours.
———————————
- 6 years earlier -
You turned up outside the old club with Morgan a little after 9pm, the mild spring air refreshing sweaty dancers and drunken partiers as loud music spilled from the open doors.
You were now better acquainted with the bouncers, and decided to cut the queue, much to the disdain of the people waiting to get in.
“Hey Charlie, is Colter working tonight?” You asked the big burly man at the door.
“Hello ladies! Nah not tonight, thought he would have been over at yours? It’s all he’s been talking about lately.” Charlie said, a look of confusion on his face and his arms crossed.
You suddenly became panic stricken, it wasn’t like Colter to just disappear like this. “Thanks Charlie, I’ll go by his house and see if he’s there. Can you just get him to call me if he comes by here?”
Charlie nodded with a small smile on his face, and you left.
“Sorry to drag you out Morgan, I think I’m gonna take you home and then I’ll swing by Colters.” You said as you got in the car and started driving away from the club.
“You sure you don’t want some company?” She offered.
You smiled at her and chuckled, “No I’m okay, I think you probably have better things to do than follow me around all night.”
You dropped off Morgan and made your way to Colters estate, still baffled by how a night club manager could afford such a lifestyle, and as you pulled into the drive you noticed the lights inside were on.
You suddenly felt a hot flash of anger as you realised Colter was probably sick of you and just trying to ghost you.
You parked the car and stormed up to his front door, knocking hard.
A few seconds later the door flew open and your anger immediately subsided, and turned to worry again.
“Colt… what the hell happened to your face?” You gasped as you pushed your way inside to see him better.
Colter looked sheepish as he lifted an ice pack to his split lip, his left eye blackened and a purple bruise growing on his cheekbone.
“Nothing, I just got into a fight with some people at the club, it’s nothing. I’m sorry I didn’t call, my phone was broken in the scuffle.” He laughed sheepishly.
You tutted at him and shook your head, taking his hand and leading him into the kitchen. “You weren’t at the club, I was there and I spoke to Charlie. What’s really going on, Colt?”
You pushed him gently down onto a barstool and inspected his face.
Colter was quiet as he thought, his jaw ticking in frustration. “It was just a fight, okay, I’m fine.”
“You need to call the police.” You stated as you took the ice pack and dabbed the side of his lip where the split was.
Colter pushed your hand and the ice pack out of the way and stood to his feet, “No, I don’t need to get the cops involved, Y/N. Just drop it.”
You stood watching Colter potter around the kitchen in confusion, “Colter something is going on and if you won’t tell me then I can’t be here.”
Colter turned around to face you and his expression was soft, apologetic. “I know, I’m sorry. It’s just not safe to bring you into this.”
Your eyebrows pinched together and you let out an exasperated laugh, “Of course it’s not safe, look at your face! What exactly are you involved in, Colt?”
He was quiet for a long time, and then beckoned for you to sit.
You shook your head, you were too pent up to sit, so Colter sat instead, in front of you on the stool. He pulled you into him gently and rested his head on your chest with a deep sigh.
When he looked up, his eyes were watery, something you’d never seen before.
“What’s going on, Colt?” You whispered as you gently cupped his cheeks.
“I’m the head of a syndicate, Y/N.” He said, his voice hushed, his hands holding onto your sides for dear life.
“What?” You asked, confused.
“I run a crime ring. My dad was the Don of a huge mob on the south side, when he passed away a few years ago, I had to take over.”
You stepped back out of Colters reach, the heat of panic spreading through your body.
“You’re in a gang?” You asked.
Colter nodded.
“You’re not a manager of a club?”
“No.”
You shook your head and placed a hand to your forehead.
Colter cleared his throat and spoke up, “I own that night club. And a few others. I own most of the businesses in this town actually.”
Your eyes shot up to his in surprise. “You… own them? So this syndicate or gang or whatever you choose to call it… it’s big?” You were horrified, your boyfriend, the man you were head over heals for, was a mobster.
Colter nodded, and began to walk slowly over to you. You were pinned up against the kitchen counter and Colter closed you in slowly, unable to move out of his way.
“Y/N, I understand fully if you don’t want anything to do with me, but if there’s even a tiny piece of you that thinks you could forgive me, or that could overlook what I do, I could make you the happiest woman alive.” He breathed, kissing your forehead. Your body went warm from the feeling and you inadvertently keeled into him.
Colter held onto you, one arm wrapped across your lower back and the other cupping your cheek, his long fingers dipping into your soft hair.
“I- I don’t know how I feel, Colt. It sounds dangerous...”
“It is… but I vow to keep you safe as long as you’re with me. No one will ever lay a finger on Colter Stevens’ girl.”
His deep voice made you feel safe and you felt yourself melting into him more. “I’m your girl?” You teased with a soft grin, and Colter finally dipped his head and kissed you like he had something to prove.
You moaned softly into his lips and wrapped your arms around his neck as you deepened the kiss. Colter practically purred at the feeling of your fingernails scraping his scalp.
He pulled away just for a second, and he looked down at your beautiful face longingly. “I’m so sorry I kept this from you… I didn’t mean to hurt you.”
Instead of responding, you pulled Colter back down by his neck and kissed him again, this time with more passion and need.
Colter took the back of your thighs and lifted you into the counter, moving his lips down to your chin, cheeks and neck, sucking gentle marks into your soft skin. You moaned as affirmation that you wanted him to keep going, and he was more than happy to oblige.
Colter lifted your jumper over your head, and kissed a trail down from your collarbone to your bra, sliding a hand around your back to expertly remove your bra.
Colter took a second to marvel at your beautiful body before he pushed you down to lay on the counter. You gasped at the cold feeling of the marble against your body but you were quickly distracted by the feeling of your jeans sliding down your legs.
Colter stood over you, his eyes lust blown and his hands exploring your curves. You bit your lip and felt almost embarrassed by the way he stared, but as soon as he came down to kiss your stomach, you soon forgot the embarrassment.
“Oh… Colt…” you moaned as his lips trailed further south. He was teasing you at this point, his lips and tongue tracing your underwear until you shivered.
He flattened his tongue and licked over your clothed core and you gasped, your back arching. Colter growled and suddenly your underwear had been torn off of you.
Colter wasted no time, his soft tongue delving into your hot core and moving in patterns that had you shaking. His face now buried between your legs, lost in your taste and you in how he made you feel, his hand moved upwards to stroke your stomach and breasts, while the other gripped onto your thigh to pin you down.
You gasped and shivered every time his tongue moved over your sensitive little nub, but just before you could completely unravel, he stood upright. A look of feral lust and hunger on his face as he looked down at your beautiful and flushed form.
Slowly, almost tauntingly, he began to discard his own clothes, piece by piece until he stood completely naked in front of you. You almost choked on your breath at the size of him, unsure if you could take him, but oh so ready to try.
Colter pulled you into a sitting position, kissing you tenderly once you were close enough.
“I love you.” He breathed, and it took you by surprise. You pulled back and looked at him, trying to tell if he was serious.
Colters face turned serious and his hand came up to cup your jaw, “I love you.” He repeated.
You smiled, and a small laugh escaped your lips, “I love you.” You told him back.
Colter seemed filled with a whole new bout of energy, and he surged forward to capture your lips. His hands moved to your ass and he pulled to forward on the counter top towards him.
Your fingers tangled in his hair as you kissed him back hungrily, angling your body to give him the access you both longed for.
Colter positioned himself at your entrance, and you both gasped as he pushed into you. You gripped his shoulders for support as he got fully seated, and as he pulled out and pushed back in again, your head lulled back at the feeling.
“Oh my god.” You whimpered, “You’re… so big. You feel so good.”
Colter couldn’t even get his words out, the feeling of you tightly gripping him, the warmth and softness and just the way you looked had his eyebrows creasing and the tip of his tongue between his teeth in concentration.
His finger tips went white as he squeezed the flesh of your ass and continued to pump into you.
You lay back down against the counter top and Colter lifted one of your legs over his shoulder, using this new position to his advantage, and his thumb came down to slip through your wet folds, where it rubbed loose circles on your sensitive nub.
Your back arched and you whimpered, Colter picked up his speed as he looked down at you lovingly.
“I can’t fucking get enough of you.” He grunted out.
At his words, you began to shake, and your coil came undone. Your body arched and quivered as you came hard, and you clenched around him.
Colter picked up speed, and sunk his teeth into the flesh of your calf to stifle the curse words that spilled from his mouth. He came undone and spilled into you, his last few thrusts slowing as he enjoyed the feeling of your last wave washing over you, clenching around his throbbing cock.
Colter collapsed on top of you, panting. Your fingers curled into his hair as you caught your breath, your heart racing at how your first time with him had been so incredible, and how passionate it had been.
After a few minutes of laying there and holding one another, Colter stood and helped you to your feat, and then scooped you up by your legs and held your naked body against his in a bridal style.
“What are you doing?” You chuckled breathlessly.
“I’m taking my incredible girlfriend to bed, her bed if she’ll be kind enough to move in with me?”
You laughed as he began to carry you up the stairs, “Only if I can bring my dog.”

- Present Day -
You must have fallen asleep at some point, because the next thing you knew you were being woken up by a loud noise in the next room.
You heard thudding and crashing and shouting and you strained your ears to hear what was going on. It sounded like a struggle, and you just about made out the words “kill you” and “regret this”.
You felt like your heart was going to explode out of your chest as you recognised the voice the words had come from. It was your Colter, no doubt he had come to save you but you knew he wasn’t safe, even if he did bring all of the money.
You struggling with your bindings and tried once more to loosen them, crying out as the sharp pain in your wrist jolted through you, but suddenly you were distracted as the sound of a gun went off.
You looked up suddenly towards the door, panic stricken as the sounds of the struggle ceased and you could only hear one set of footsteps getting closer.
The door handle turned and the door creaked open, your heart thudding painfully loudly in your ears and you began to hyperventilate.
“Baby?” Colters voice rang out into the dark room.
Relief washed over you like a hot wave, and you sobbed. “Colt! I’m over here!” You practically wailed.
Suddenly Colter came into view, his face bloodied and sweaty and his hair a mess, and he dropped to his knees in front of you.
“Baby I’m so sorry, I never meant for you to get dragged into this.” He wept. You had only seen him cry once before.
“Is he dead?” You cried.
Colter nodded but couldn’t make eye contact as he worked at untying your legs. He moved around to untie your wrists but you yelped in pain and he immediately stepped away from you.
“I think my wrist is broken, be careful.” You told him. You couldn’t see it, but Colters bottom lip quivered as he tried to comprehend that he was the reason you had been hurt, and the guilt began to eat away at him.
He carefully unbound your hands and helped you onto your feet. He slid an arm under yours and helped you walk, still hobbling on sore legs, and you moved towards the door.
As you got closer you noticed you had been locked in a bedroom, and you walked out onto a warmly lit hallway, just like a regular home and you found it hard to comprehend you hadn’t been stowed away in some warehouse somewhere given the state in which you were treated.
You walked towards another door, which you could only imagine was the front door, and relief washed over you, until a clicking noise alerted you to a gun behind cocked behind you.
You and Colter froze to the spot, mere inches from the door.
“Turn the fuck around.” The voice rang out.
You did as instructed, both turning to face the man you thought Colter had killed. He held onto his side where blood spewed through his fingers, his face white and clammy, and his other hand pointed his own gun to your face.
“Let her go and you can have me, Johnny.” Colter said sternly, holding a careful hand up at him.
“I don’t think so, Stevens. Not after everything you’ve put my family through. I think it’s time you had a taste.” And with this the man called Johnny pulled the trigger, and you closed your eyes tight in preparation of the end.
Only, the end didn’t come, nor did that blinding hot pain of the bullet. You only moved to open your eyes when you heard a body hit the floor, and panic ran through you as you realised he must have hit Colter.
Your eyes flew open in horror, and as you were about to let out a sob, you realised the body on the floor wasn’t Colter’s, but Johnny’s.
Colter had drawn his gun and shot Johnny before he had the chance to shoot you.
For a second the world stood still, and then a strong arm wrapped around you and pulled you out the front door.

- 4 Years Earlier -
“Colt, stop! That tickles!” You giggled, and you kicked at your boyfriend as he kissed your ankles.
You had taken a lovely vacation to the beach, just the two of you, and it had been absolute bliss. It was your last full day before you were due to head back home the next morning, and you were making the most of lounging on the beach.
You had been trying to read your book, but Colter got bored and thought turning you on might be a fun idea. He crawled up your beach towel, and began kissing up your soft legs.
You had kicked him away playfully, but he persisted, and you were very thankful that the beach was secluded.
“Pleaseeeee put that book away, I’m being neglected.” He joked as he playfully nibbled at your legs. You dropped your sunglasses down the bridge of your nose and put your book down in the sand.
“Fine,” you said with a grin, “I’m giving you my full attention.”
Colter chuckled as he lay on his stomach just next to you in the sand, his golden skin glistening in the sun, his cheeky blue eyes twinkling.
“Marry me.” He said simply. Your heart skipped a beat and you sat up further.
“Sorry?”
“I said marry me, Y/N.” He repeated himself, so sure of himself.
“You’re joking, surely?” You chuckled nervously, now propped up with your hands behind you in the sand, trying to seem as nonchalant as possible.
“I’m not joking. I fucking love you, so much. I’ve never loved anyone or anything the way I love you. Marry me.”
You gulped, goosebumps beginning to grow on your skin. “You’re serious.”
Colter grinned and nodded, “I’ve never been more serious.”
You let out a surprised laugh, a hand flying up to cup your mouth to stifle a small scream. After a second you moved your hand and grinned down at him. “Yes. Okay.”
“Yes, okay?” He chuckled, “well… I guess that’ll do.”
Colter lifted himself off of the sand and hovered over you, a sweet kiss planted against your lips.
“I love you, of course I’ll marry you.” You explained.
“That’s good, just as well I bought this then.” He grinned as he pulled a ring out of his shorts pocket. He held up a beautiful, shiny ring and your jaw almost dropped as you took it in.
“You were planning this?”
“Of course I was, there’s no me without you.”
————————————
- Present Day -
Of course the police were not called that day, but Colter did have a friend who was a dirty ex-cop called Danny, and he called him to clean up the mess and any evidence.
As soon as Danny arrived, Colter mumbled something about wiring him funds, a breakdown of the situation, they both nodded and Colter turned back to you.
“Let’s get you to a hospital.” He said.
You were quiet for a moment as he helped you into his car, and once he’d climbed in the drivers side, you looked over at him solemnly.
“We need to tell them I fell. Off a ladder or something.” You said.
“What?” Colter queried as he started the car.
“You know as well as I do that we can’t tell them the truth. For your sake.”
Colter looked at you lovingly for a while before he pulled away. “You always were too good too me.”
At the hospital you told your lies, which seemed to fly with the doctors, and your wrist was put in a cast, luckily only a hairline fracture.
Colter drove you home but the whole ride there was silent. Occasionally he would glance over at you, wincing at the sight of your broken wrist and knowing he was the reason.
Bruises had begun to bloom all over your skin, your lower back worse off than the rest of you, and when you got to your moms house you mumbled a “goodnight” as you pulled yourself out of the car.
“I still think it’s better if I stay the night, I can look after you.” Colter suggested, running a hand through his hair as he stood outside the drivers side of his car.
You shook your head, “No, I don’t think that’s a good idea, if my mom sees you she’ll just ask questions.”
Colter was about to argue when the front door opened and your mom ran out, worry etched across her face.
You sighed, “Too late.”
“Oh my god, where were you?!” She wailed, wrapping her cardigan across her tightly as she stormed towards you. “I was worried sick! If you were going to stay the night at Colter’s you really should have called or answered my calls at least-“
Your mom stopped in her tracks as her eyes landed on your cast, and she gasped loudly.
“Y/N what happened?” She was suddenly softer and sympathetic, and even more worried than before. She reached you and gently took your cast arm in her hands.
“I… uhm…” you couldn’t think of a lie.
Colter stepped forward, “Hit and run. We’ve reported it to the police, luckily I was there, I was actually on my way here when I saw it happen.”
Your mom clasped a hand over her mouth, “My poor baby. If I find them you best bet it’ll be the end of them! Let’s get you inside.” She wrapped her arm around you and guided you inside carefully.
Colter stood and watched as you two walked away, and sighed deeply when you were out of earshot, but almost as if you’d heard, you stopped turned your head.
“Thank you.” You said softly, and disappeared through the door.
———————————
- 4 Years Earlier -
Your engagement party was a glamorous event, and for the first time you realised just how powerful Colter was. Over the last 2 years you’d begun to understand just how dangerous his line of work was, but you’d never quite grasped the nicer side of it.
Sure, he had a huge home, with sprawling lawns, nice cars and just about everything you wanted or needed was yours, but it wasn’t until the mayor of your town, lawyers and doctors and affluent strangers began to walk through the door, congratulating you and hugging Colter like they’d known him forever.
It was a surprisingly fun event despite how high society it was, but halfway through the evening, Colter disappeared.
You excused yourself from the conversation you were having, and began to look for him. You checked the kitchen and dining room, you peaked out into the garden, you went upstairs and checked the bedrooms and bathrooms but he wasn’t there.
Eventually you heard faint whispers coming from Colters study, the door slightly ajar, and you peaked in.
Colter stood speaking with a man who had his back to you, the dimly lit room warm from the fire and the smell of cigars wafting towards you.
“If the shipment isn’t here by midnight on July 7th, the deal is off and my boys will still be after their cut. That will be your problem, not mine. I’ve been fair enough with this weeks extension.” He looked calm, a hand pressed against the mantle piece as he looked into the fire.
The man nodded, “I’m sorry, boss. I’ll make sure it isn’t late again.” His voice meek, quivering.
You accidentally nudged the door and it creaked slightly, and you straightened up as both men turned to look at you.
A smile formed on Colters face as he noticed you, “Hey honey, sorry, we were just finishing up here.”
You forced a smile as you stepped into the room. You immediately noticed the man had a black eye and he avoided eye contact.
“I better get going. Have a good night, boss, miss.” The man nodded at you as he slunk out of the room and you watched as he left, before turning back to Colter.
“You’ve been gone a while.” You noted, crossing your arms.
Colter looked sheepish, “I’m sorry, we just needed to clear up a bit of business, but I’m all yours now.” He walked up to you, slinking an arm around your waist.
“Thank goodness, your friends are all talking about stocks and bonds and I don’t know the first thing about it.” You chuckled, wrapping your arms around his shoulders. Colter stared longingly down at you.
“I love you.” He said so earnestly it made your insides hurt.
“I know.” You grinned, “Ditto.”
“Ditto.” He repeated, chuckling down at you, before planting a soft kiss against your lips.
You both walked back down and joined the party, chit chatting until everyone had eventually left and it was just you and Colter.
You began loading the dishwasher as Colter collected glasses and plates from random places around the house.
“Hey…” he called from the other room. “You hungry?”
“Yes!” You groaned, “I was too busy mingling to eat anything, and before I knew it, it was all gone.”
Colter chuckled as he walked back in, “How about I go and pick us up some take out? Then we can put a movie on.”
You looked up at him from your crouched position as you organised the dishwasher. “I knew there was a reason I loved you.” You joked with a grin.
Colter left as you finished cleaning up, then you went upstairs to shower. You did your skincare routine and climbed into a cozy pair of satin pyjamas, truly happy with your life.
You decided to grab a blanket and curl up on the couch until Colter got back, maybe you’d pick a movie while you waited.
You waltzed down the winding staircase, wrapping the blanket around your shoulders. It felt colder than you’d remembered downstairs, but figured it was due to your hot shower making everything else feel cold compared.
You padded into the kitchen and opened the fridge, moving rings around and looking for a bottle of water, and finding one of the last glass bottles near the back, Colter’s favourite brand.
You made a mental note to pick up more next time you went to the store, and you turned to walk into the living room.
Suddenly your blood ran cold, noticing something that should not be there, and the bottle fell from your fingers, smashing to the cold tile below.
