Some Kitakami Sibling Headcanons
These are things I wanna expand on more in fanfic (some of these ideas are gonna get thrown into Festival for False Heroes eventually), but wanted to post in the meantime. TW for discussion of domestic violence/child neglect and abuse.
He and Carmine were born in Mitsralton City, two and a half years apart from each other, and lived there till Carmine was 7 and Kieran almost 5.
Their parents didn’t exactly have the most stable marriage to begin with. They were both very good trainers, and had a chemistry built on that, but also tended to fight, sometimes violently. They weren’t bad people, but they brought out the worst in each other, and disagreed over how to raise the children, both of whom had substantial issues:
Baby Carmine had a temper, and learned to get attention from watching her parents fight. She broke plenty of porcelain plates even in infancy, and the property damage only got worse from there, as she physically couldn’t control herself when she was distressed.
Baby Kieran was withdrawn, worryingly so, and didn’t speak or respond to his name. For a few months, the family thought he was deaf – then he heard his first thunderstorm, and the cacophony made him cry.
The siblings’ mother, Michie, was determined that both kids needed some kind of intervention. Their father, who later became notorious under the pseudonym Colress, was certain that they would be fine in their own time, without external help. Michie won enough that both kids got an autism diagnosis and recommendations for behavioural therapy. Colress won enough that neither kid got to attend said behavioural therapy before he left.
As the kids got older, Carmine got rowdier, and Kieran stayed quiet. Colress knew his son could read and understand language, and parented him by giving him books and encyclopaedias to read that were well beyond any small child’s reading level. Colress liked Kieran, but never had the gumption to really be a father to him. Michie tried to calm Carmine down, but to no avail. She loved her daughter, but didn’t know how to deal with her, so, horribly, forced her to ride out her increasingly frequent meltdowns on her own. Both Carmine and Kieran were much worse off for the way their parents utterly failed to connect with them, and in different ways, they’ve both become terrified of being left alone for it. But Kieran learned to cope by withdrawing into fantasy and mythology, as Colress taught him to, while Carmine learned to drive others away before they could abandon her. They grew equally good at isolating themselves, in different ways, for fear of being isolated.
Michie would often call her parents to express her frustration. When Yukito and Hideko caught wind of the fact she and Colress had been fighting physically as well as verbally over this, and realised how horrendously the kids were being treated, they were furious. They were mortified that their grandchildren would be growing up somewhere so precipitously lonely. A year later, when Colress walked out on the family, Hideko and Yukito flew to Unova to collect the kids, wanting to give them a better home life than Michie, in her stranded and desperate state, could provide.
Kieran was extremely late to talk – he said his first words maybe a week before Colress walked out. While he understood Galarian, he didn’t get much opportunity to practise speaking it before he and Carmine moved to Kitakami. As such, he, unlike Carmine, had to effectively relearn his mother tongue for his first semester at Blueberry, and it’s left him with a light accent, which he later worked to rid himself of during his breakdown. He never quite managed to eradicate it, and it frustrates him to be proficient, rather than fluent, in his mother tongue.
Carmine and Kieran did tend to fight physically when they were younger – they learned to do so by copying their parents. Yukito and Hideko eventually managed to teach them not to, but while the siblings love each other, by god, their fights are acrimonious. Carmine and Kieran haven’t hit each other in at least 3 years, but that’s barely a starting point.
Kieran has a special interest in mythology generally, and knows every different variation on Kitakamian folklore possible. Moreover, he’s scarily aware of the complexities of broader Johtohnian legends, and can pull a twenty-minute infodump on Celebi out of thin air on cue. Asking him about anything relating to old Hisuian creation myths, or the Pearl and Diamond clans’ different deities, will produce a similar deluge of information. Even Unovan mythology fascinates him immensely, and he’s terrifyingly knowledgeable where Kyurem’s concerned. Ogerpon’s tale was always his favourite, though as it’s the one he’d escape into when he felt unseen.
Part of why Amarys and Carmine get on is that Amarys, despite her need to economise time, is incredibly patient with Carmine. The result is that when Carmine had one of her sporadic meltdowns and lost control of her actions, when Amarys witnessed it, she didn’t question it or scold her, but took her somewhere quiet, and waited it out with her. Carmine feels incredibly grateful to Amarys for that, and as such, she doesn’t feel she needs to be defensive around her so much as she does around others.
Carmine always has a huge supply of snacks hidden in her room, and she insists on sharing them with Amarys. She tried to share them with Kieran during his breakdown, but he refused to touch them, which was a sign of something being very, very wrong.
Carmine gets surprisingly homesick when she’s at Blueberry, and has been known to call her grandparents at 3am Unova time because she needs company, and doesn’t know where else to reach out. Occasionally, if she still feels awful, or if she feels she can’t call them for whatever reason, she’ll go to Amarys’ room and just sit with her, maybe making conversation, maybe just being there, proving she isn’t alone.
During his breakdown, Kieran tended to train in the Canyon Biome when he couldn’t sleep. Juliana once found him there at 1 in the morning, as she gets horrid insomnia, and tends to explore her surroundings so she can escape the dread of watching the ceiling. While Kieran ostensibly hated her at this point, as this was prior to the championship match, he reluctantly let her roll out a picnic table and make him a sandwich. He scarcely ate any of it, but he appreciated her company, not that he’d be caught dead admitting as much. (He insisted on cleaning up and walking her back to the dorms. Ostensibly, he still hated her, but…)
Carmine and Kieran use their grandfather’s surname in most things, but legally, their surname is Achroma.
Their mother is still in their life here and there – she meets up with the two of them, and is proud of them both for making it this far, but Carmine remembers how poorly her mother understood her, and tends to get oddly quiet around her nowadays, hoping she’ll approve slightly more now. Kieran gets on horribly with his mother, in that she clearly neither likes him nor understands him, and he feels downright betrayed by her.
Their father is mostly absent, but has, on a couple of occasions, randomly sent books and gadgets to BB Academy, with these books and gadgets all dedicated To Carmine/Kieran – keep working hard!. He knows they’re enrolled there, which means he’s gone out of the way to find that out. The siblings know, vaguely, that he’s out there. Carmine is outwardly resentful of his absence, but secretly wishes she could meet him. Kieran’s bitter, but curious about his father.
Carmine got the mobile phone in the family in part because Kieran tends to hog the home desktop back in Mossui. As of second year, Kieran’s grandparents have yielded and given him a phone, too, so that if he starts to break down again (God forbid), they can contact him directly, instead of having to go through Carmine/the school. He does have an Instagram, and he refuses to accept Carmine’s follow request.
When Kieran went back to Blueberry after his breakdown, he noticed that the notorious Colress of Team Plasma had a bit of an internet paper trail. Late at night, Kieran would follow this paper trail, working out over the course of weeks that Colress may well be one Mr. Achroma. This prompted mixed feelings, for while Kieran was terrified of his potential to go mad in the pursuit of power again, he couldn’t help but think that his dad, deadbeat and thrice-convicted criminal that he was, was at least a little bit cool.
On a forum where Colress was still periodically active, Kieran managed to reach out and politely ask about his research on strength. He did this half out of genuine curiosity about how to get better as a trainer, half as a way of screaming into the void – are you out there, Dad, and can you hear me?
Unbelievably, Colress responded. Since he’d been able to tell that the message was sent by a kid or teen, but a smart kid or teen who’d clearly actually read his work and gone to the trouble of finding him, he felt impressed enough not to be worried. (To be fair, Colress is incredibly laissez-faire about most things except his research.) As a result, they now correspond periodically. So far, Kieran’s let slip that he’s at Blueberry Academy, and that he’s a second-year, as well as mentioning once that he’s from Kitakami. He does not know whether Colress has connected the dots, but every day, he hopes he will, somehow, and that if/when he does, he’ll show that he still cares (if he ever did at all. And how Kieran hopes Colress did, indeed, care).
Carmine knows about this correspondence. She’s scolded Kieran for it, but she also insists on staying updated on what’s going on.
Someday, Kieran wants to battle in the PWT. When he gets to that point, he’ll register himself as Kieran Colress, and won’t tell a soul (except Juliana or Amarys) why he’d dare draw his stage name from a notorious amoral scientist.

In this universe, Ghetsis is forced to suffer several additional indignities at the hands of the protagonists who encounter him.
Following his plot to rule the world going up in flames from Touko's interference and referring to N as "a freak without a human heart", before the Shadow Triad can whisk him away to safety, she manages to deliver a punch to the eye so devastatingly powerful it shatters his monocle as well as the majority of his sanity.
Ghetsis replays this moment every single day several times a day in the theatre of his deranged mind, along with an assortment of morbid scenarios involving exacting vengeance on both his former adoptive son and the woman who disfigured his face - up until the instant Mei begins beating him over the head with her bag after achieving victory against Black Kyurem and his team.
Tumblr media
(Artwork provided by @sinisterlutist)
Although the Ghetsis that Mizuki meets isn't the same as the above, rather a version from another universe wherein no one ever arrived to confront him, he still is humiliated by her. Before Colress returns him to whence he came with his machine, she has a wide enough window of opportunity to kick Ghetsis directly in the groin as swift retaliation for threatening Lillie's life seconds earlier.
Despite the state of disgrace these incidents leave him in, it's rather fortunate for Ghetsis he never brings his plans to the Sinnoh region. Otherwise, Champion Hikari would perhaps respond to his villainous ambitions with stranding him in the Distortion World where not even the Shadow Triad could assist him, left to the mercy (or lack thereof) of The Renegade, Giratina...

Bullhybrid! OC: Zero hcs
( for this one zero is in his human design<-warning suggestive picture)
Y'all I can also see him living on the farm as his regular wasp self but I don't see Holt being a beekeeper lol.
Cw:yandere character, obsessive behavior, mentions of a character with possessive behavior. Suggestive. All around not a good position to be in lol.
Part of the "humans fascinate me gang." But he really likes humans. If his overly clinginess didn't piss Holt off, maybe he would let Zero have you. Unlike other hybrids, clinginess to you zero actively and constantly distracts you from your work. Zero gets handy and demands all of your attention while he plays with your fingers or strokes your back, twirls your hair, or traces the lines on your palm.
He knows every little difference about you, and honestly, it scares your boss. Your boss and he do not get along at all. He's one of the only bulls that could stand up to him even if he knows Holt is stronger.
Holt's possessive and sometimes overbearing nature over you, as he sees you as his possession, will not clash well with Zero's obsessive and clingy nature. And why stop something that annoys your boss?
Zero does make creepy comments about the human body when you least expect it. Maybe you shouldn't bought him a book on human anatomy no, he's obsessed with caressing the areas of your body to find where your organs are.
"I bet you're blood is a beautiful deep red, and tastes sweet." Is an actual thing you've heard.
When he isn't trying to cling to you physically, He's watching you intently, studying every move you make and wondering if that's just a you thing or if all humans do that—responding to every little reaction you make, hyperfocused on everything your human body does. You feel more like a specimen in a lab or that you're the hybrid and he's the farm hand, from the way he speaks to you or from the way he is. Like Colress and other smarter bulls on the farm, he is clearly more intelligent than you. He could probably live a life in human society like some hybrids prefer. But for some reason, he stays here. And personally, do you really want to know the reason why?
Zero knows full well, were all the vitals. but as much as he wants to he could never act on his fantasies of being the only one in your life because he knew he could never get past that damn farmer. Who has been keeping a sharp eye on him? However, he's contented with playing well for now if it means he gets to be around you.
He frequently goes into the forest attached to the farm and is on the farmer's land to forage and place edible plants on your window seal. Though even then, I wouldn't trust anything he gives you. Since I wouldn't be surprised that he would know exactly what plant does to the human body.

[It's a video! The one filming, as usual, seems to be Cross, who voices a low, electric "whoaaaaaaaa" as she films the legendary Reshiram, from its talons to the crest of its fluffy head. The dragon seems to be at rest, fluffing out its wings before the camera settles back at its feet on the three people in the room, standing tensely.
Two of them stand together--Tula, and presumably Vanilla, facing Vision in garishly purple robes. Tula's hand rests at her hip, where her sword sits, but Vanilla's position is a bit more diplomatic, hands open in front of them as if to negotiate. Even so, Tula speaks first.
"Where's your boss, Miss Ghetsis Wannabe."
"Boss?" Vision sneered. "He needs me more than I could possibly need him. He's off working on his special little machine, though. Apologies for disappointing you, little grunt."
Before Tula can bite back, Vanilla jumps in.
"So, to be perfectly clear... your plan is to use Reshiram to force people to release their Pokémon. While you have Reshiram captured. And you're saying you're better than Ghetsis was, because...?"
Vision shakes her head. "Hmph. Reshiram and I formed a bond of trust far before I captured them to ensure our plans could succeed. And I intend to give them their freedom, too. Is it truly so hard to understand that without Pokéballs, Pokémon could still choose to spend their time around humans? Or is that the only way you can envision your bond? As captor and captive? It would be one thing if all Pokémon chose to join their trainers before being captured, but can you say without a singular doubt that there aren't Pokémon trapped and abused in the current system? If it takes the fire of truth to bring about justice, then so be it!"
"Justice? Don't talk about justice when your 'plan' is going to hurt and kill innocent people and Pokémon!" Vanilla reaches for the sword at his own hip. Negotiations were through.
"If your idea of justice is so perfect, then you can burn with the people you're defending!"
At a swish of Vision's wrist, Reshiram flexes the length of its entire wings, a thrumming noise and a steadily increasing heat filling the room as it activates its Turboblaze. The camera-Pokémon moves closer to her trainer, as she fumbles trying to pick a Pokéball from her waist and hold her sword steady.
They whisper to their partner. "Tula, you should..."
She shakes her head, rejecting the thought of fleeing before it's even finished. "...I'm supposed to protect you."
As the ground, ceiling, and even Cross shake with the force of the charged power, though, the notably absent member of the fight appears with a flash and a Beheeyem, yelling loud enough to overcome the noise.
"In the name of-- do none of you care of what would happen if the ceiling collapsed in on you all, here?!"
Both Vanilla and Vision's fur stands on end. Tula pivots and breathes deep, holding tight to her own sword as Vision responds, her voice cold but even.
"Colress. I have this under control."
"We have an agreement, Vision. Our tools aren't yet prepared. The emotions. The setting... These are far from the ideal experimental conditions. Bide your time."
As Vision grumbles, and as he backs off from the impending attack, Colress gestures at the 'visitors'.
"Now, Beheeyem. Show our guests out, would you?"
As Tula steels herself and lunges at the scientist, yelling something along the lines of "Don't you fucking dare, you fucking--", the camera flashes with blinding light, and the surroundings change from the crumbling ruins of a castle to a lush forest. There's the distinct sound of a thud against the earth, the cry of a Beheeyem, and something hard and plastic hitting the ground before Cross reorients herself to the scene just in time to see Colress's Beheeyem teleport away, and Vanilla rushing to help Tula off of the ground.
"Shit. That must've hurt... are you okay, babe?"
Tula peels herself off of the ground with a sharp intake of breath.
"Yeah... I'm... It's all my fault, I couldn't..."
"No no no," Vanilla assured as a few Zorua wandered over to assess the scene. "You did amazing. We just need to figure out how to deal with that Beheeyem..."
One of the Zorua--the yellow eyes suggest Vanilla's nephew, Bach--nudges over a worn Luxury Ball.
"Huh? What is..."
Vanilla picks up the Pokéball, and the video ends.]

Moth I've said this shit to you before. But I genuinely don't understand why people think Ghetsis and Colress have this 30 year fucking age gap. For Colress, all I have to say that becoming a scientist of his status takes DECADES post high school. And with Ghetsis, they only think he's 60+ because he has frown lines and a cane. I have frown lines and I'm 21. My friend who is 21 and has frown lines and uses a cane is also 21. Everyone has fucking frownlines. It's very reasonable to say they're both in their 40s. Rant over.
Sorry late response... I meant to respond to this one earlier!
Yeah it's insane. The lengths and reaches people go to to hate on antigrav specifically is unlike anything I've seen (at least in recent years?)
But you're entirely correct. I have no clue why people are so adamant to say they have this huge age gap as if they have any confirmed ages. Ghetsis has a 20 year old son. It's entirely possible that he's in his 40s. That's a normal age for him to be. He can be older though idrc that's literally just how I interpret him. Colress would realistically be older too. I interpret him to be roughly the same age as Ghetsis which really shouldn't ruffle as many feathers as it does. Cyrus is 27 and look at him. Lusamine is 40 and look at her. Pokemon ages and appearances are often super All Over The Place. Idk. And the people that claim ags is bad because of the """age gap""" make it seem like colress is like, freshly 20 or something. He would be like 30 at least. And even if they did have some kind of age gap (albeit not 30 years, more like 10?) Literally Who Cares. They're both grown ass men there's not some huge mental gap or whatever people try to claim there is?
I would like to enjoy ags like a normal person but every other month something kicks up for no reason. It's all so tiresome and has honestly been making me distance myself more and more from the fandom. I just want to know peace. Please let ags enjoyers ship two unrelated consenting adults together

Reshiress, having been dubbed so by Rosa, seems to have slipped into a state of inactivity after driving off Ghetsis and Kyurem. They move. They fly. They breathe.
But they don’t react.
Grimsley can’t coax out a response, and it becomes even more concerning when they don’t respond to Nate and Rosa; Colress absolutely adores his kids, so for him to not acknowledge them, even if he is currently taking on Reshiram's shape, is more than concerning.
‘It’s strange,' says N, sipping at his juice. 'They appear conscious, but their responses are all over the place.'
'Oh?' Grimsley tilts his head up to watch the White Dragon, their pale plumage a sharp contrast against the twilit sky.
'Yeah, it’s like. . . It’s like it’s pure instinct, instead of a proper conversation.'
Grimsley hums, internally in awe of the dragon's beauty as their wings thread through the pale orange clouds. Squinting, something catches his attention.
He nudges Rosa, careful to avoid jostling the Cutiefly that has taken up residence on the girl's shoulder, and asks her to snap a quick photo of Reshiress.
They all gather around to look at the picture; it must be a comical sight, the lot of them crowded around a tiny screen.
‘Is something wrong, Pops?' Nate asks, holding his treasured chess book close.
It’s only because of Caitlin and her sleep disturbances that he recognises this.
The dilated pupils and glassy stare are a dead giveaway.

‘They’re sleepwalking.'

Ello! Big fan of y'all so I'm honored if you reply but question!
Ghetsis, out of your three children, N, Anthea, and Concordia
Who's your favorite?
And DON'T say N because of your original and with him. Be honest with yourself. Also, hi Colress! Have a good day/night/ whenever you see or respond to this! Ty!
At least someone recognizes my greatness, unlike some people I have to put up with.
As for my favorite kid, Concordia. She was easiest to raise, very polite, very sweet, very low maintenance, raising her was a breeze. Hell her and her sister did most of the work raising N, so it's like I got 3 kids for the effort of 2!
Ghetsis... no... parentification isn't as big of a flex as you think it is...
Also, hello kind person, thank you for being so polite and enjoying our content
You have a nice night yourself, as it is night time when I am answering this! Thank you for your support and thank you everyone for y'all's support!

can you. talk about nate hilbertverse
yes GOD this poor guy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
first off: nate is hilbert's little brother- 6 years his junior. he'd always looked up to hilbert as a role model, idolizing him especially after his ascension to hero of ideals. keep in mind that nate was only 10 when bw happened, so his understanding of the situation was surface-level and admittedly naïve. even when hilbert had been hospitalized for his injuries, he'd put on a brave face for nate, so the latter didn't grasp the severity of what happened/was happening.... it wouldn't be until later that the reality of how scary this was would sink in.
freshly 11 yrs old when hilbert left unova, nate was then sent off to aspertia to live with the other half of the family (hilda, rosa, and their mom) so he could enroll in cheren's trainer's school with rosa and earn his permit. the idea was also a way to provide him with a distraction from hilbert's absence since nate was a lonely kid... but anyway, this permit allowed them to participate in the junior division of the pokemon league challenge, meaning if either of them won, they'd be a champion in name only. that didnt happen but i'll get to why in a second.
when he was 12, despite setting out with the intention of collecting gym badges, hugh and nate quickly veered off course when team neo-plasma began showing its face around the region, urging the two of them to give chase in a bid to get some answers out of them. in the process, nate came across and befriended keldeo, and then, upon meeting colress, was dubbed something akin to his protégé.
this of course all came to a head in giant chasm. there... something happened that left nate almost a completely different person. not only had he been told, to his face, that his big brother was gone for good, but his right arm was caught in the line of kyurem's glaciate.
like his brother before him, nate was then hospitalized for a considerable amount of time, and like theyd done for his brother before him, interpol came swooping in make use of nate at his lowest. because, technically, hilbert had been working with them when he disappeared, so they had to take some accountability in his case... and what better way that to employ his little brother, i guess.
before his journey, nate was a sweet, excitable kid, although he struggled with tone. afterwards... it's like he struggles to recognize any emotion at all. he's blunt, does not have time for distractions, he gets unreal tunnel vision and dedicates years working on tying up loose ends regarding hilbert- such as the whereabouts of the dark stone and anything he might have left behind that nate can bring back home... rosa thinks its a pointless obsession and would rather forget about it all, and this resulted in a fight that drove a wedge between the two of them. :(
this was supposed to be a brief summary and its already gotten this long LOL... i had to skip over some details that i'll revisit in other posts later. like n's zorua. theres a lot going on with a lot of the hilbertverse cast and nate is no exception.
some more trivia, though:
reshiram would have accepted him as a hero of truth if he'd agreed to it... but hes very different from n. his pursuit of truth is one devoid of idealism- he has no hope, no optimism, he only wants to get the facts to provide some sense of closure.
his full name is nathaniel tobias black. do not ever call him this
his birthday is may 4
he has two shinies, those being his emboar and his galvantula. lucky bastard
we really dont know what gender his emboar is? most just assume its a male, but it responds to whatever. really it does what it wants. its name is samson and its parents are bianca and hilda's emboars.
his prosthetic arm was designed and built by colress. the guy likes to think of himself as nate's mentor, even though he's one of the main factors behind why nate's even going through what he is in the first place...
and finally, although it's currently only 3 songs long, heres his playlist!

N's soul is coming out of his body while processing this --

I am having a hilarious time at Worlds startling the hell out of Japanese people by speaking Japanese to them. Today I chatted with some guys selling cards and was talking in Japanese about the characters on my bag (looker, Colress, etc), and one guy overheard me mention Milo. So he shuffled through a pile and handed me a Japanese Milo card while saying "ヤロー?" with a big smile on his face. I lost it. I also lost it when a guy saw Looker on my bag and mentioned him before I did 😭
Then I saw a guy with a cute Volcarona keychain and complimented it but in English so he didn't hear me. I heard him speaking Japanese so I used its Japanese name and called it cute. He spun around and could only respond, startled, with "NIHONGO?!" 😆
And I had the bravery and brains to ask a woman an entire full sentence question, which she answered. Wow. I usually get very embarrassed speaking Japanese unless I'm just saying the names of boys and look at me now.

-cracks knuckles- So, because I decided on a whim to make Scarlett the daughter of Zoe when I started playing Pkmn Scarlet, we've since seen a few potential origin stories for Scarlett:
Zoe found her in the woods and the fact that Scarlett looks nearly identical to her is a coincidence.*
1a. Scarlett was raised by a Kangaskhan until Zoe stumbled across her
2. Paradox Zoe theory
*this one is canon until I firmly, seriously lock in on another idea. Assume "found in the woods" is canon.
NOW, THIRD POTENTIAL ORIGIN STORY JUST DROPPED:
3. Clone Zoe theory
"How? Why?" Let's blame Colress. He's a freak who's more concerned with scientific advancement and acquiring knowledge than with the morality of it - hence why he signs on with Team Plasma despite personally hating Ghetsis' ass - and while the events of Black 2 lead him to the conclusion that the best way to draw out a Pokemon's strength and potential is through love and trust and the bond between Pokemon and trainer... I dunno, I don't trust that the man is fully hinged even after that. I think at some point he ponders the nature of the bond between Unova's legendary dragons and their human heroes and wonders what is it that binds them together. How did the dragons choose a hero. Is it based on some metaphysical concept like a soul. If he clones an identical version of one of the heroes, how would their dragon respond?
"Why Zoe and not N?" Colress hates Ghetsis' ass and while we don't know his opinions on N, and also would be getting into nature-vs-nurture with the whole clone thing, he decides that he'd rather deal with the unknown quantity of Reshiram's hero, than risk dealing with what he very much knows about Zekrom's hero. (Actually, wait, Colress has a line of dialogue where he says there's no way that a human could talk to Pokemon, so like. Does he even know N at all?)
That, or he came up with the clone idea even before he got pondering the bonds between Pokemon and trainer, for some other dubious scientific reason, and he asked Ghetsis if he could use Team Plasma's resources on this and Ghetsis is like "If you must do this, clone the girl, because I will throw you off this airship if you bring a second version of that freak [N] into the world" and Colress was like yeah sure okay.
Anyway years later Colress has a five-year-old clone and he sends off some anonymous messages to Zoe to try and goad her into a meeting and for her to bring Reshiram along because he wants to see how Reshiram will respond. Zoe shows up with Reshiram and also N in tow, and Colress is like "um. hm. hi. okay. anyway." and then he finds out that this entire scientific experiment was pointless because Reshiram doesn't respond in a way that allows him to get any data. Colress finds out N can talk to Pokemon and thinks that's great, because it will allow them to directly consult Reshiram, and so Colress asks Reshiram questions about what is it that connects Reshiram and Zoe, and does Reshiram recognize those same qualities in this clone?
Reshiram (via N): "That one is smaller."
Colress: "Well, yes, in physical size, of course. But internally, what do you sense? What do you feel?"
Reshiram: "That one is smaller." [N's later translation note: smaller here conveys a sense of mind and thought. Smaller in terms of life experience; younger is smaller.]
Colress: "...."
N: "How many years of your life you put into this, for this to be your answer."
Then Zoe, who has been stunlocked this entire time by the concept of a clone of herself, finally starts moving again and goes in to physically fight Colress - skip the prospect of a Pokemon battle, she's going to strangle the guy - and while Colress is trying to not get punched in the face, N picks up Scarlett and says "I'm just going to take this from you now. Goodbye."
Anyway, every increasingly-insane Scarlett origin story I come up with is funny because while Scarlett's background and early life may change, her present and personality do not. The fact that she's relatively normal and well-adjusted is very important to the way that she is both friends and character foils with Arven. The poor guy is jealous of his little buddy for the fact that she has two loving, present parents and then he finds out she was raised by Pokemon/grown in a lab for the first chunk of her life. What the fuck does he even do with that.

//OOC: Hope I'm doing right. Any of your guys can respond. And it's okay if you feel you don't know enough about my characters to answer.
Someone related to Colress in another universe...
I have a feeling he did tests on you and that Colress sometimes stays up late in the night till the coffee stops working.
Kinda what my Colruss does.

"He's awake."
The sight that greets Cheren Slater is not the sight of his older brother, or the sight of the doctors.
He finds himself in an unfamiliar place, one too isolated and unfit to be properly called a hospital room- a medical ward, perhaps.
The presence of medical tools brings him a sense of relief, but the multiple monitors lining the walls do not.
Hovering above his bed, Cheren Piper looks down at him with a twinge of worry, but it all disappears when their eyes meet.
An unfamiliar blonde in a lab coat and glasses observes them, clipboard in hand. A doctor, maybe; he dressed the part.
"You're awake."
"Piper?"
His head throbs. Piper helps him sit up gently, adjusting his pillows to support his back.
The pain spreads from his head to the rest of his body- try as he might, he couldn't so much as move his fingers
"What happened?"
"It's a long story," His friend says with a sad smile, rubbing his back. "I don't think I can tell you now. Not when you're like this."
"But if you must know the essentials," The blonde approaches, clicking his pen. "You were in an accident. We've just taken certain measures to ensure your body- and mind, were able to recover."
An accident?
Looking at himself now, Slater realizes he wasn't in his usual fluffy cardigan; a loose baby blue sleeve hung on his arm, sickly pale and wrapped in bandages.
Questions race in his mind, his anxiety starting to grow. The cold, stoic gaze of the doctor didn't help.
Piper realizes this, and gently wraps his arm around his friend's body, pulling him close in an embrace.
"It's going to be alright," Piper says under his breath. "I told you before, right? I'll always be by your side."
Slater's chin rested on his shoulder. He sees the doctor push the glasses up the bridge of his nose, before turning on his heel and leaving the room, mumbling something to himself.
"Slater," Piper continues to speak. "I know you're scared now, but I promise, everything will make sense soon. I just don't want to overwhelm you, you know?"
Slater would have responded.
But he found himself unfocused, eyes dancing around the monitors on the walls, even as Piper whispered reassurances and promises, holding him tight in an effort to comfort.
Slater wouldn't doubt his best friend for a second.
But whoever was holding him was not his partner.
...
"Ghetsis! Ghetsis, you son of a-!"
As if to mock him, the scenery of the real world plays on the sky above him.
In the vastness of the virtual world, Cheren Piper found himself alone, with only the duel spirits of his deck to keep him company.
Though Ghetsis' body in the real world found itself teetering between life and death,
That old man.
He turned on his promise.
He betrayed me.
He took his body.
"Slater! Slater, get away from him! That's not me-!"
Slater pulls away from the embrace of "Piper", brows furrowed.
He opens his lips to say something, but is unable to keep his consciousness much longer.
"Slater," Ghetsis speaks in Piper's voice, hands placed on Slater's shoulders. His voice rings throughout the virtual world- even if Piper tried to hide from his reality, he would not be able to escape the horrific truth. "You should rest for now. I'll call Doctor Colress to check on you."
That fucker-!
But as he turns to leave, Slater, after a few seconds of pondering, grabs his sleeve.
"Piper,"
No.
"That's not-!"
"Can- can you, ah, stay? For a bit? I- I don't feel safe. Something, um, I think something- or someone, is watching me."
Piper sees the way his body's fingers twitch.
"Of course," Ghetsis answers so easily. "I'll stay as long as you need me to. After all,"
If Piper had his body now, his nails would be digging deep into his skin, drawing blood.
"I promised you, didn't I?"
It was futile, but Piper continues to scream into nothingness, even as Slater could not hear him.
"Slater! Get away from him! Get- Ghetsis, can you hear me?! Stay away from Slater!"
It was all for nothing, in the end.
Even as Piper fell into the depths of hell and clawed himself out, he was still a fool for believing in the promises of a serpent- twice.
And Slater would pay the price- with both his number and his soul.
