I know is still early as hell. But when mother's day come around, hopefully, my country will be out of quarentine. And I will be super busy.

So. I noticed that you all like a Chisaki who begrudily shows his emotions. So why not?

Btw, the character might be a bit OOc on this one. Sorry about that and stay safe.

Mother's day...

His chest was enveloped by that tightness and bitter sweet sensation as he watched the outdoors, propagandas, and the worst, kids and other people celebrating on the fucking street with the person who brought them to this disgusting word.

Some had the luxury of having good parents right when born. Those spoiled bastards like the heroes surely didn't know what torture people had been through, more specifically the ones who didn't belonged to that word, the ones abandoned on the darkness... which hero would come to there anyway?

Heck, even in the fucking yakusa some had their parents who didn't treated them like shit.

To say the least. Father and Mother's day... wasn't a very found date of his.

He just had this eyes full of pure pain and not so great nostalgia. Memories of his past coming back like some type of torturous flash... the beating, the yelling... everything.

Pops did his best through the years to make some change of it. But with no success.

He walked past the door of his home, shoulders feeling like he was carrying the world on his back and head throbbing with a headache.

"You're back Kai!" A soft voice brought him back to reality as he merely gave a blank loook at his girlfriend, walling towards him with that smile.

He only nodded at her, not noticing her eyebrows furrowing in worry bit brushing it off as his usual attitude.

"I.. I'm going to go visit my mother for a bit." His heart seemed to sand at that, but his face didn't even twitched "If you want, you can come-"

"No." Simple and short was his answer, no harshness or annoyance on his tone, only... empytiness, lifting his gloved hand up and lowering after it with a sigh "Have a good day, careful when you come back...will you?" He said in a broken and flat tone as he walked past you.

Your worry only grew at seing that he didn't entered his office like usual, but the bedrock instead... you knew what this was all about, yet you couldn't stop over worrying about him..

You sighed as your phone buzzed, your mother worried why you were taking so long as you got out of the house with other plans in your head besides seing your mom...

His back rested on the mattress as his hollow gaze was directed at the windows and balcony of his room. Memories haunting him like some type of ghost or even demon that wouldn't just leave him alone.

The disgust on her face every fucking time she would look at him, him being beaten up by his biological father as she looked at her reports or clothes while he cried for her to help him.... after the incident of his father's death, her gaze towards him was absolutely the worst, not only she had that disgust, but at that time it was fear.

Like she was looking at the Devil itself at that time.

Did it cost so much to have one look of her with... care? Heck, no one asked to be born, especially him that by five or eight years of his life the only thing he wanted to was to dissapear.

He took a shuddering breath at remembering those nights where he manage to read books that weren't related about medical advances neither case of diseases... one kid's book he found on the street once and cleaned, it was childish and boring compared to the ones he had read, but he remember how it described the love of a mother towards her child.

He wanted that... was it so difficult? Was it so difficult for her to even spare at glance at him like the book itself described it? Was he so broken and disgusting that he wasn't deserved of a mother's genuine love?

Was it so difficult for her to treat him like her son? He remembered one time where at the age of six, he saw a kid on the hospital crying on their mother for just receiving a injection, seeking comfort on her... and when he came to touch the white overcoat of his own mother to catch her attention, the scowl she gave was enough for him to retreat back and stay on his corner.

He forgot how in his childhood days, he just wanted to know and feel like how it was being loved and what that word meant... he saw many parents hugging their childs and praising them, why he couldn't have that...?

Was something that bad for him to be born?

He stopped his train of thought when the door of his bedroom clicked. For a moment, he could care less at anyone who saw him that way, casual clothes as he had this broken look on his face, he could just order them to get out... but when he saw you with a bad on your hand, his body stiffen immediately.

"What are you doing in here?" I thought you were-" he started with a irritated tone of voice, praying that you didn't noticed his moment of weakness.

"I was. But I told her I would compensate on another day spending with her. I told my mom it was kinda of an 'emergency'." You smiled as you settled the tiny bug on the nightstand and frowned slightly at his his eyes, pink instead of the color white in them, but being the stubborn man he is, even with no one around, he refused to spare a single tear.

He sighed, eyes closing as he layed his head in the matress as he pointed with his palm while his free other glived hand pinched his covered nose.

"What is even this?"

You unwrapped it. One fo Kai's favorite pantries with a bit of berries on it. His sweet tooth was something so endearing for you that it made you smile purely only at him.

"I thought a little picked me up would do you some good." You cooed as he slowly opened one of his eyes and looked at what you brought. Immediately sighing, but still reaching for it.

"This will dirty the bedroom and you are the one cleaning after wards." He mumbled as he stared at the sweet on hjs hand enveloped by a napkin.

"Definitely. But will you complain about that 'I missed a spot' or something later, surely." Yoj let out a giggle but immediate stopped when you saw that you got no reaction of his. Only that he placed the sweet back on the box and returned it to the nightstand.

Ok. Serious. This shit was serious.

You sighed and walked around the bed to sit besides him, back resting on the mattress the same as him, watching him carefully.

Neber on your life you would think that you were gonna be so close yet so far from Chisaki. You were literally touching shoulders legs and shoulders with, and he didn't even scoffed or complain it about it! Yet, his mind was so stuck on whatever bad memory of his right now, that it made quite difficult to reach out for him.

Yet, you were persistent. Going for something that you knew that if anyone did that with him, they would be dead on the spot.

But not only were you brave, you knew he cared and allowed you to do it.

You sighed in hope, reaching out a gentle hand to cup his covered cheek and carresed gently. Earning only a look as if he was questioning you.

But before he could mutter one word, you slid your fingers to his ear and slowly took off his black mask, lips on that strict and straight line as his eyebrows furrowed at your actions, but he did nothing to stop you.

You holded his face gently before touching your lips in both of his cheeks and after his lips... he did nothing to stop you still.

Then you pushed his head to rest on your chest where your heart bumps could echo on his ears. His body once stiff relaxed a bit when he heard that sound which helped him to sleep.

Gentle fingers started to scratch carefully and caress his dark brow looks. The amount of love on your actions almost overwhelmed him if it wasn't for his hollow and numb estate of mind.

The voice of his mother echoed on his head along with your heart beat his jaw tighten as his arms came hesitantly to wrap around your waist.

"I'm sorry. I know you don't like this day, not even a bit." You whispered on his hair as you felt him blinking on your skin "But you wanna know something?... I have one, one only reason to thank that woman..." he arched his eyebrow at that, lifting himself from your chest to look down at you like you had grow not only a second, but a third head along.

Ever since he admitted, opened himself to talk about his past for you, your rage towards those two was almost, if not equal, to his own.

You touched forehead with him as you interlocked your fingers with his. Doing your best to put ever live you had towards this man in every word.

"I only have to thank her despicable existence, for making and bringing you on this world... my knight in shinning armor, my yakusa's boss." You sighed dreamily and pecked his lips once again "My devil."

When you opened your eyes the last thing you were expecting to see was his eyes tightly closed as his shoulders trembled.

You cooed an apology immediately, desperately in making up to him but he just let his face fall to your shoulder as he let out a muffled sob.

"Dammit (Y/n)..!" He whispered as he tried to control his breathing and how his heart was hammering against his chest, your fingers on his back, lips on his temple and sweet words only overwhelmed him in a way he hated, despise it to be.

A moment where all the walls he had built on his years of life complete fell...

You must have notice how he was still trying to hold back by the way you embraced him, whispering things that he swear was the reason for his break down.

"I love you, Chisaki Kai. And I always will... hou already protect me, so let me do the same?"

His face fell from your shoulders to your thighs and stomach, burring himself on them as he gripped in your waist like a life saver as he let out all the tears he needed to shed in his silent crying with only a few sobs here and there.

All the love he didn't know he needed and secretly craved ever since childhood, he was receiving right now as a young adult from his partner... how was that even possible? Him? Receiving such a divine thing from such a beautiful and sweet person like youserlf?

He didn't know for ling he cried in your stomach, opting to bury his face on it to hide his shame of acting like he was a weak midget again... savoring like a starved man at your sweet touches and whispers of love confessions and praises.

Who needed the love love of a project of a mother when he had such a beautiful angel like yourself to care for him?

He didn't count how long he stayed there, but he did remener that it wasn't nighttime when you had come back and entered you guys room.

He sighed shakily as his grip lessen only for a bit, getting half or one inch away from you so he could take a deep breath and come back again.

"She really didn't know what she lost." You suddenly said while carresing his dark brow hair as his embrace tighten "You just are the incarnation of perfection, dammit, how blind and dumb were they?"

He tsked and scoffed in your skin.

"Dramatic..." he spoke with a sore voice, gruffly and hoarse as he heard your giggles.

"I speak only the truth here!"

He slowly got up and locked his arms around your waist as he rested his chin on your shoulder and burried his face in your hair. His mysophobia completely forgotten as he enjoyed the love and care from someone that knew him, respect him.... loved him.

"Aw?" You cooed as you hugged his neck "Someone is in the cuddling mood?" He only scoffed and burried his face on your neck even more "I thought cuddling was, what the words you said again?" You stopped hugging his neck to mockingly poke your chin "Ah! 'Useless and disgusting-"

"Dammit woman, just hug me for once." He growled as he tighten his arms in your waist. His words making your heart melt, feeling all warm and fuzzy inside as your arms returned to his neck.

"I love you." You cooed, nuzzling your face on his own shoulder while he squeezed you tight as his response.

Some time passed with both of you locked in the arms of each other, the two of you agreeing to at least lay down until you remembered that you were still on casual clothes not sleeping ones.

Although when you tried to move he only grunted and tighten his embrace over you, face resting on the top of your head.

"Kai I have to change."

"... just five minutes and you go." He whispered lowly in the top of your head, sending shivers even to the tips of your toes.

You forgotten thhat once Kai was in this mood he bargained and refused to let you go. And him being almost in the verge of sleep no less? You were stuck. Amd you couldn't be more happy with that.

At least you brought peace to him on a day where his last came to haunt him.

Easy as Breathing (PT. 2)

Clyde has never looked so sweet.

Part 2!

Your fingertips shook ever so slightly as they pulled clothes from your dresser. What do you even wear camping. Nothing you dredged up from the depths of your drawers was satisfying the goal you had in mind. Of course, all you wanted to do was feel desirable, but how do you do that when you’ll just be sweaty and gross for the entire weekend? You decided to just text Lauren. You wrote, “EMERGENCY. Wtf am i supposed to wear to keep Clyde’s attention? Surely not the t-shirt from my middle school robotics team?!”

You felt even more frantic. Bathing suits. You didn’t have anything other than a cheap, all black one-piece. You texted Lauren again. “Ok ok and bathing suits...i’m fucked”. You took a shaky breath, piling in essentials you at least knew you’d need. After all the toiletries and whatnot were sorted, you checked your phone. Lauren must’ve been having a ball.

“Oh sweetpea, honeybear, sugarplum. I’m at the mall right now, what’s your size?” Her text burned into your retinas as you contemplated whether or not to give her this power. You relented, realizing you were already a lost cause and she could only help from here. After she received your text about sizes, she sent a wink emoji. Winking….about what???

You decided to fold up every piece of clothing you ripped out of your dresser while you waited for her to let you know whether or not she had any luck with bathing suits or clothes. You bargained with yourself, realizing t-shirts, shorts, and leggings would just have to do in this case. You folded everything neatly into a duffle bag, cursing under your breath at your nerves.

Your phone dinged. When you unlocked the screen, Clyde’s name came into view. Your heart fluttered and you felt the butterflies again. You’d been texting on and off since last night you went to the bar, getting to know each other little by little. You learned that he loves spaghetti and the smell of the Earth fresh after the rain. You learned that he was in the military and that he enjoys the moon more than the sun. You learned that his favorite dessert was peach cobbler. You also learned that you wanted to learn everything about him.

He texted, “Just finished puttin some booze in a cooler for us, that way everything’ll be nice and chilled when we get there. I’m sure excited to be gettin there and settlin’ down for the night. I hope you’re as excited as I am, darlin.” You leaned against the closest wall you could find, re-reading the text over and over as you sighed. No matter what you wore, you were certain it’d be perfect.

Lauren proposed that you both drive together to minimize the amount of cars at the campsite. When she showed up, she invited herself in to help you with bags. She looked you up and down as she saw you standing in your living room, closing the door and whipping her head back around. In her hands was a small fabric bag and she began pulling out the contents.

“Ok so I packed you the swimsuit and a couple other essentials; however, we need to fix this outfit immediately,” she laughed, walking over and placing a hand on your shoulder. “Listen dear, you’re perfect; but if i’m going to live vicariously through you, i’m gonna need you to put these on.” She held out her hand, holding a few items of clothing.

You unfurled the clothes, revealing a cropped, v-neck tank top, high-waisted jean shorts, a thin, loose cardigan, and a ballcap. You looked from the clothing to her, panic rising in your throat.

“Y/n, it’s going to be fine. This way you’ll be more comfortable, too. It’s hotter than a rattlesnakes taint out there.” Lauren was perfect. She always had a quip to make you laugh, put you at ease. You ran into the bathroom and changed as fast as you could, trying not to look at yourself in the mirror too hard. When you walked out, she praised you.

“YEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS girl, I AM drooling. I’m quite the life saver. No need to thank me, let’s just get outta here, shall we?” With a spring in her step, she grabbed the bag and walked out of the door. You picked up your own bag and shuffled out, locking the door behind you. And so it begins.

When you arrived at the campsite, there was a man in a guard shack checking every vehicle in. As Lauren approached, she stated the party’s name (Clyde Logan…*sigh*) and the man let you through. You drove for about 20 minutes around and around seemingly endless trees, camp sites, and then back the place you started.

“Fuck,” gritted Lauren. She was visibly frustrated, and you were no better to navigate the woods than her. You decided to text Clyde.

“Classic. Girls lost in the woods. Any way you can give me a play by play on how to get there?” You sent your text in a flash. Only seconds later, Clyde’s name appeared on your screen; he was calling.

Your stomach dropped but you answered quickly (too quickly? Oh shut up y/n).

“Hey there darlin’ can ya give me an idea of where you’re at? I can walk up to the main street ta meet ya.” His southern drawl was exceptional, I mean. WHERE did he pick this gorgeous twang from, the heavens?

You chatted quickly about your surroundings, coming about a gentleman holding a phone, looking in the other direction. It was him. His hair was halfway pulled back into a convenient bun, t-shirt ripped open on the sides revealing his sides and chest. You shuddered slightly. When he turned his head your way, Lauren had slowed down drastically. He smiled and waved his arms for you to follow him. The path became littered with branched and trees, the further you drove in, the thicker the foliage became. Lauren kept a decent distance between him and the car.

“Sure is looking like a snack for you, hmm?” she teased. She bit her tongue and smiled wildly when you glanced at her, pleading. Your nerves were already shot, and you felt way out of your element in this outfit. The skin that was exposed feeling every draft that passed you.

When the car stopped, your stomach jolted upwards. You exited the car, tugging at the hem of the crop top to try and regain some modesty. Clyde was talking to Jimmy, but when he looked over and saw you, he jogged over to help.

“Ya made it in one piece, ladies,” he beamed, giving Lauren the quickest of embraces. He made his way to you, smiling wildly as he placed an arm around you tightly, burrowing his face in the crook of your neck. You could’ve sworn he breathed you in. When he pulled away, he eyed you up and down, eyes lingering on the skin between your shorts and your crop top. You were immediately away of your exposed skin again, tugging at the hem of the shirt.

He led you into the clearing of the campsite, holding you and Lauren’s bags over his shoulder. She reached for hers as he showed you where your tent was, escaping into the tent to set her stuff up. He placed yours down next to his tent.

“This here’s Jimmy Logan, worst best brother ta ever walk the earth-” Clyde stated as Jimmy walked towards you arms open.

“And you must be the pretty little thing he’s been ravin’ about, c’mere sweetie,” Jimmy Logan’s arms were around you in the blink of an eye, Your left hand raising to pat his back. As he pulled away, you noticed how bright his eyes were, a stark contrast from Clyde’s molasses colored eyes. His smile was warm and genuine, an honest smile you realized you needed to see. Jimmy’s friend introduced himself and you shook hands, becoming acquainted with everyone.

When Lauren reappeared, she also received the same introductions, hugs and quips. You were both led through the options for dinner and available snacks, Clyde hanging around in the background sipping a beer. He was tending to a small fire, attempting to build it into one that would last the evening. Lauren and you spent a good fifteen minutes applying sunscreen and bugspray, leaving you both slightly greasy with a bit of sickly perfume hanging on your skin.

A few hours had gone by and drinks were heavily passed around, sitting by the fire. No one was shy to drink from Jimmy’s friend’s flask after a few drinks, and boy did it burn. You swallowed an accidental mouthful from the flask, trying to regain control of your facial expression as it burned your esophagus.

“That there is my momma’s best apple pie moonshine,” declared Jimmy’s friend. “She won awards from it….there’s another handle in my trunk.” He laughed, holding his belly as the flask made its way back to him.

“Sometimes I honestly believe your momma’s been tryna kill you with that stuff,” chuckled Jimmy, slapping his chest as the remnants of the moonshine trickled down. You smiled into the heat of the fire and the heat in your veins. Shit. You were a little drunk.

You were saved by Clyde pulling out hot dogs and the works. You mowed down probably two...maybe three hot dogs when you felt you had control of your mouth. Jimmy and his friend spent the sunset asking you and Lauren questions about your lives. He kept referring to you as “city girls” and acting in awe of the life you had back in New England. It was interesting to see their reactions to your everyday ventures.

You asked the same amount of questions in return, learning about Jimmy’s criminal past (he has nothing to hide) and his hopes for the future. Clyde remained quiet and attentive, soaking in all the information. You turned to face him. “What about you, mister tall, dark and mysterious?” You felt brazen, realizing you didn’t mean to put him on the spot. Clyde just smiled at you.

“I’ll tell ya anything you wanna know, miss.”

You all got to talking about how Clyde came to own Duck Tape, how he and Jimmy got themselves into all sorts of trouble, and how they used to come to this campsite to get away from all the negatives in their lives.

The sun was beyond set and you began to feel the draft of the air against your skin becoming colder and colder. Without realizing you were, you started shivering; teeth chattering every so often as you attempted to stifle it. It was nerves as well, Lauren and Jimmy’s friend hit it off, deciding to go watch the fireflies by the lake's edge. Now it was you, Clyde, and Jimmy.

“Welp, since the suns down I’m gonna take this chance to go wash off the day. You guys need anything, you holler.” Jimmy stood promptly, grabbing his bag from beside his tent and walked off into the woods.

“Shower?” you questioned Clyde. You didn’t realize but he had stood when Jimmy did, perhaps he wanted to go shower as well.

“Yeah, it’s like a quarter-for-a-few-minutes of hot water deal,” he explained. “It’s in an old log cabin up the road.”

“Aaah,” you teased, “so this isn’t real camping..”

He came to sit by your side, shoving you playfully with his shoulder. “Ain’t nothin’ wrong with wantin ta stay pampered,” he let his hair out of the bun and shook it loose. You could smell the spicy shampoo from his hair, the deodorant clinging to his skin, the peppery cologne he must be wearing…He chuckled at his own playfulness

You breathed in deep. “Mmm tell me you brought some of that shampoo to share, mister Logan.” You smiled sweetly at Clyde and then looked back to the crackling fire. Another gust of wind, stronger than the others, attacked your exposed skin, causing you to shiver. Clyde noticed, getting up and walking towards his tent. How could this hot, muggy place have such freezing night time drafts?

Clyde returned with a balled up piece of clothing in his hand. “Arms up,” he demanded. You looked to him confused, raising your arms. He pulled the material out and draped it around your arms, tugging it down until your hands met the holes of a shirt. He grabbed his own shirt for you to wear...to keep you warm. You melted. It smelled just like him. Not exposed to the smell of burning wood, the shirt exuded his scent, each subtle note gracing your senses. You sighed as the shirt enveloped you, coming to your thighs.

The heat of the fire on your shins matched the heat in your cheeks now. Clyde seemed closer than ever, yet the two of you were silent.

“Clyde?” Your voice pierced a scared rhythm of crackling in the embers of the fire.

“Y/n?” he replied.

“I think you’re too cool for me,” you joked, halfway believing it.

He smiled wide, “Too cool...ain’t never heard that one before. Truth be told, i’m a little shy. And hell, maybe a little nervous.”

“Nervous?”

“Yeah...i’m not real good at the whole...smooth talkin’ thing.” He looked from the fire to the ground. You turned to face him.

“Smooth talkin’ thing,” you repeated. “Clyde, you don’t need to play games with people, you’re the real deal. That’s why all the women at the bar hang on your every word, why I come as often-” You stopped yourself. Don’t give too much away, damnit. Even if the moonshine is strong, you needed to at least not make yourself vulnerable. You looked to the ground, then to his prosthetic arm which was glinting in the fire. In your peripheral vision, Clyde was looking down at you with the faintest smirk.

“Yes, miss y/n? Please continue,” he demanded.

You huffed a breath through your nose, taking a sip of the drink you had been nursing. “All i’m saying is...I can’t seem to get enough of being around you. You make this whole reassignment..I don’t know...brighter? Sweeter? You make everything as easy as breathing when I come to see you at the bar. I’m sure you get a lot of this, but it sure means a lot to me to have you around.” You weren’t sure where you pulled the courage to say all of this, but you realized you’d begun shaking from nerves.

Clyde’s eyes contained the image of the fire reflected back to you. Of course they did. He’s the only person that’s made you feel hotter than the West Virginia sun. The only face you’ve pictured late at night when your hands dip below your panty line. The only thing giving you a glimmer of hope for happiness in this lonely town. You were only able to hold his gaze for a moment. His hair was curling at the ends from the humidity, a slight breeze sending the scent of his shampoo to your senses.

“You must not know how much I think of you, y/n,” he began, “ever since you been comin’ to my bar for a laugh, I’ve been hangin off every word you say to me.” He looked down at his shirt wrapped around your body. “You are the highlight of my day, every time I see your pretty face gracin’ my bar. I love makin’ you your favorite drinks, watchin you sip and be happy with your girlfriend...hell, i’d do anything to make you feel happy,” he chuckled. “I honestly never thought I stood a chance with lady as beautiful as you, always comin to see me in those perfect dresses.”

You shuddered at the thought of him noticing you in your dress, wondering what you were wearing underneath, how the fabric would feel against his skin…

“Y/n!” yelled Lauren.

You both perked up, not realizing how close your faces had gotten in your conversation. You became acutely aware of the smoke coming your way in contrast to the scent of Clyde’s body coming closer to yours. You turned to face Lauren, walking with Jimmy’s friend.

“Yes, Lauren?”

bamon but make it halloween

im so terrible it’s literally almost a month after halloween but i had to post this. time is an illusion anyway, right guys? 😃 okay... ONWARDS.

“And you are...?” Caroline Forbes was patiently waiting for Bonnie to exit the bathroom, announcing her end of preparation for Whitmore’s biggest Halloween bash.

She bored herself with uninteresting conversation to pass the time but her patience was wearing thin, especially since the discussion was excessively snarky and headache-inducing. The absence of Stefan could really remind her just how much of a nuisance his brother could be. For Christ’s sake, why did he have to interrupt quality time with her best friend by bringing himself to the equation?

“A vampire, duh.”

Damon Salvatore donned an organic black cotton tee with black jeans, leather boots, signature bourbon whisky in hand, and a pair of cheap plastic fangs that almost lisped his speech.

“The blonde hair didn’t just come with the outfit, I take it.” He remarked, raising a disapproving eyebrow at Caroline’s Malibu Barbie costume.

“Guys, I’m almost done. Please don’t attempt to kill each other.” Bonnie’s incessant shuffling almost drowned out her voice.

“Fine.” They chimed in unison.

“Hurry, Bonnie. Caroline is doused in pink and that’s my least favorite color on earth. My eyes are starting to burn.”

“Did he just say doused?”

Caroline faced Damon and grimaced theatrically. “Honestly, you’re such a dick.”

He flashed a smile with those creepy plastic teeth. “Ninety-percent of me is, yes.”

“Gross. Did my ears just witness that... I-“ Rubbing her ears proved to be fruitless; the words had already made their stain.

Bonnie exited the bathroom and click-clacked her way to her two bickering best friends. “Before this situation gets any more awkward, I’m ready.”

And ready she was in fishnet stockings, black pointed-toe high heels, a teeny wicker broom and a dress that was tight and very short with thin shoulder straps. Her hair was long, pin-straight and down her back.To top it off, she had smoky eyes, nude glossy lips and a black hat with an exaggerated tip. An eyeful to say the least. There was no doubt that all heads would turn tonight in her favor.

“I’m a witch!”

Caroline squealed in excitement. “No Bonnie, you are that witch. Ohmygod, turn around! Look at your butt!”

“It’s kinda hard to do that,”

“Well if you could see it, you’d be amazed. You look so hot!” Caroline felt like the proudest best friend in the world, and if the night went as planned, she’d be the greatest wing woman to walk the face of the earth. Bonnie needed a boy toy, and with the help of her and that dress, Caroline’s mission would be easy peasy.

“You’re uncharacteristically quiet.”

Caroline almost forgot Damon Salvatore was also an occupant in the room, annoyingly existing beside her. She observed his mannerism and was shocked to hear no snide remarks fall from his lips. In fact, he looked a little too appreciative of Bonnie’s costume with honest blue eyes that wouldn’t leave her face or frame.

Caroline pulled Damon aside, frustrated with his counterproductive antics. It was the biggest campus party of the year and she was trying to get her best friend laid because that was what best friends did. Bonnie looked too damn good to be just hanging around with her and Damon all night, especially considering the countless amount of eye candy surrounding them.

“We are. We’re a couple of best friends, looking to have a great, wholesome, spooky night.”

The music was getting louder as the bass thumped throughout the house. Red cups, mingling bodies, and flashing lights dominated the atmosphere. He had long since ditched the plastic fangs, Caroline presumed, to dig his teeth into some innocent girl later on that night.

“Damon, seriously. Stop attempting to scare these guys away. If anyone deserves a wild and crazy night, it’s Bonnie.”

“She can be wild and crazy with us. Two vampires and one witch? We’re the wildest trio to exist.”

“Yes but Bonnie’s a grown woman with needs not even we can help with.”

Caroline’s brow raised in suspicion as she crossed her arms. Her pink jacket creased at the elbows.

“Kidding, kidding. Look, one dance with my little Bon Bon and I’ll stop being a bad vampire and allow her to make small talk with brainless douche bags. I promise.”

“Aye, aye, Captain.”

Damon strolled over to Bonnie, interrupting her for what would be the last time, to his dismay. She was talking to some dick who had entirely too much cologne on, his vampire senses were agitated.

“I noticed you looked awfully bored, mind if I steal you away? You can just call me Life Saver.” There was a playful look in his eyes as he lightly tugged on her wrist.

The guy frowned at him and opened his mouth to speak but Damon pulled her away to the dance floor before he could respond.

“No, I’ll just call you Cock Block. He was super cute!” Bonnie hissed, with a cute frown on her face.

“Didn’t notice. Hey! I only want some one on one time with my bestie, for old time’s sake. Halloween parties bring back a certain nostalgia,” he looked off in the distance melodramatically, just above the crowd of tipsy college students.

“Of a time when we hated each other’s guts and I so desperately wanted to kill you?”

His eyes grew wide. “You feel it too?”

Bonnie stared at him and concluded that after years of knowing him, nothing could really accustom her to how frustratingly handsome he was. There was such a nonchalance that surrounded his charm, his whole demeanor screamed “I know you want to have sex with me but will you be lucky enough to get the chance,” without him saying one word. It was always there in his gaze; the party was completely out of his element with garish lights, cheap drinks, trite decorations yet somehow his devil-may-care disposition made him belong. It made spectators look. And almost every eye was on them tonight, especially for Damon, so she was truly puzzled as to why he insisted on assuming the role of watch guard. It was unlike him.

“Listen, Damon. You’ve been off this entire night... Are you okay?” There was genuine concern for him in her moss green eyes as she wrapped her arms around his neck and they swayed to the music.

Truth was, Damon couldn’t explain why it bothered him to such a high extent watching horny men trying to press up against Bonnie. Hell, if the roles were reversed, he would undoubtedly fight to be the first in line to take her home. He understood it, she was gorgeous and sexy and the way her legs looked when she wore heels and fishnets was a sin.

Yet she was also his best friend and maybe it bothered him so much because a random guy didn’t know Bonnie like he did, that they never could know her the way he had. Never sat with her, talked her through her tears. Had never been miserably stranded with her, and trapped in a prison world for months. Caroline couldn’t even compete with him in the experiences they shared and she was technically her best friend long before he came into the picture. He was all over Bonnie, she even smelled a little like him, was wearing head to toe black more often, had a bit of his cynical humor.

He couldn’t picture another male that fit into the equation even for one night. These strangers had never seen her before so how could they possibly think they could honor her the way she should be honored, even if it was for a one night stand.

God, what the hell was he thinking? He was starting to sound like Stefan in his own damn mind.

“Damon?” She lightly scratched at the hair on the nape of his neck, and the small gesture alone awakened far too many electrical impulses inside of him.

Elena, Elena, Elena.

His eyelids fluttered. “Hmm?”

The thought of Elena was almost intrusive because all he could really see was Bonnie. Bonnie irritated with him, exasperated, then understanding and pensive. Bonnie speaking.

Her mouth was moving, yes, but he was distracted. She was doing it subconsciously, playing with the hair at the nape of his neck, and it was damn near driving him up the wall in the best way possible. Bonnie made him feel so comfortable always, everything was natural with her. She felt like home.

Elena, Elena, Elena.

But Elena wasn’t here and he knew that if he hadn’t picked Bonnie over her, his life wouldn’t feel like his- it wouldn’t belong to him. Plus, they could fix it once they found a cure. Someone would undo that linking spell and his best friend and his girlfriend would both be in his life simultaneously.

For now, Bonnie was home, he couldn’t live without her, so yes he would continue to stop any guy trying to get next to her because they didn’t deserve her. No one did. She was too sweet and pure, and seeing someone talk to her who wasn’t him or someone else she loved made something flare up inside him, something a lot like-

“...Like jealousy.”

“I’m not jealous!”

There was a pregnant pause, the fingertips at his neck slowed.

“...What?”

“What?”

“I said that I think Caroline’s a little jealous of our friendship. It’s like we’ve obviously gotten closer because of everything we’ve been through and Caroline might resent you just a teensy bit for it.”

“Oh yeah, she’s been so mean to me all night, Bon Bon. She barely allowed me to dance with you.”

“That probably has more to do with you shooting down every guy that comes my way.”

“I have not,”

“Mhmm.”

“No, Bon, I’ve been shooting down every asshole that comes your way. I believe there is a difference.”

“So every guy I talk to is an asshole?”

“Precisely,” he said, with a wiggle of his brows.

“You must be the king of them.”

He gave a mock wounded expression.

Her pretty face grew serious. “I know it’s been hard. The whole decision thing. Me or Elena. I miss her so much so I can’t even imagine how you must feel. She’s everything to you.” He could see tears welling up in her eyes. “Thank you. In all honesty, I accepted the fact that I would die because of the ultimatum but you really shocked me, Damon.”

Maybe that was it, he was acting strange because he missed a pair of doe brown eyes, olive skin and long legs. He missed a raspy voice always carrying the two syllables in his name like it was too heavy to pronounce. He missed the smell of her on him, a fusion of his natural spicy je ne sais quoi and her fruity shampoo.

That’s what was making him act weird. Not the thought of smokey green eyes glazed with flirtation, batting at the expense of a baffling fool. Or brown slender fingers outstretched, casting love spells on men who could never match her energy. And surely not the thought, tucked away in the recesses of his mind, of Bonnie Shelia Bennett, the little witch, opening her arms and legs to someone not worthy enough to lick the bottom of her shoe.

And he didn’t know why if he could picture one contender, it would be himself. Like if there was an invisible bar to set the standard, it’d be him. It’s not as if he thought of Bonnie- like that- because he hadn’t, it was just he was the only male in her life that treated her least crappiest next to maybe his brother. But Stefan was Caroline’s. And Damon...well he couldn’t imagine Bonnie welcoming someone else inside of her when she felt so much like home to him.

Wait, what?

If those words had tumbled out of his mouth she probably would’ve slapped him. She wasn’t his and he wasn’t hers, no matter how close they were, no matter how long they danced, no matter how many times he made her laugh. That was his friend, and he should politely remove himself if he was blocking her from having a good night, regardless of the pain he would feel from her absence.

He should. But.

“Damon.” Bonnie had a stern look on her face and it was then that he realized his fangs were out and his eyes were veined.

“Shit,”

“Seriously, what is going on with you? Are you hungry?”

“No! I was thinking.”

“Of tearing into my flesh?” She placed her hands on her hips and tapped a pointed toe.

“No? But.. since your mind is so clearly in the gutter,” he did that thing where he paced around Bonnie like a predator stalking its prey. Pinpointing her to the spot to be examined, he was on his second lap of encircling her when he halted behind her, smoothed her long hair to one shoulder and admired the slope of skin from ear to collarbone. He took the initiative to push the envelope by trailing his nose alongside the curve of her neck, light enough to give goosebumps. The magic that was bubbling under the surface of skin was almost enough to make him salivate.

She was unmoved, like there was a predictability Damon possessed that didn’t scare her, or even surprise her anymore.

He hated it. He felt neutered, like the monster under the bed who the kid was no longer afraid of because monsters didn’t really exist, only dust bunnies.

“I could sink a fang in, to really christen the night.”

“And I could send your ass burning to flames, for old time’s sake.”

“Kinky.”

His hands circled around her wrist to hold her still, because if he kept Bonnie in place in reality, she wouldn’t be able to run free in his mind. Damon needed control, he needed to remind himself of who he was. And maybe, just maybe, teasing Bonnie would make him feel as if he had leverage over her. Like he had won something even if Bonnie went back to her dorm with someone else.

“No really, Bon Bon. You taste so good.” He inhaled her scent as he spoke in her ear. “Why do you think I gave you that nickname?”

Despite his internal conflict, he couldn’t fight his bad habits: The longer he spent with her, coiled around her like a snake, the more men would assume she wasn’t available tonight, and sure, he was being a toxic friend but he didn’t care. Damon reveled in his toxicity because it left him less lonely, less abandoned.

“Oh, Damon, don’t kid yourself. You know you’re an old man. You can’t afford too many rises.” There was a smirk in her voice.

“I can teach you all about rises and more, Bon Bon.”

“Wouldn’t you just love that?”

He really wanted to push her, see how far she could carry this conversation. And see how much alike they actually were.

“I would love that for you, yes.” He pushed one skinny shoulder strap down and lightly pressed his mouth where it once was. “Then I could really find out if you taste as good as you look.”

Her knee buckled before she sent it back in its rightful position. He noticed her body was so warm, he could hear the blood sloshing around in her veins. The reactions Damon perceived as small victories for him. If there was a scoreboard it would read: Damon 1, Bonnie 0. One hand cupped her neck lightly while the other remained at her wrist, he continued to speak into her ear.

“You know, I would stop but something tells me you’re enjoying this too much.” He pressed his thigh between hers.

She squirmed and her voice dropped octaves. “What makes you think that?”

“It’s not what I think. More so what I smell.”

Her mouth shut with an audible click of teeth.

“I bet you make the prettiest face when you-“

The feeling of his brain splitting in half was so unwelcome that his hands immediately shot up as if he could turn it off. Bonnie seemed to have an immense presence; the perfect picture of witchcraft prowess and sex appeal and if his brain didn’t feel like it was broken, he would’ve been a proud masochist. He was on one knee in an odd proposal of pain, and then it stopped. He pulled himself up and attempted to recover from his aneurysm as if it never occurred.

Damon 1, Bonnie 1.

She straightened out her dress, dusted it off to exude the message that she had no intention of getting down and dirty but she did what she must. He felt like a child and that aneurysm was one hell of a scolding.

Her voice was still a bit deep, but considerably more clear. “Honestly, you should hang out around the dining room, I see some girls that are more your type.”

He followed her gaze to a group of Elena lookalikes.

Damon possessed a sharp, unreadable expression in his gaze. “And what’s that?”

“Hmm.. selfish. Insecure.” They held each other’s gaze in a Western Showdown fashion, with an unspoken challenge sitting in the open space between them. Bonnie gave him the last once over before she strutted off, trapping his eyes with the sway of her hips.

Bonnie 2, Damon 0.

When he looked back up, Caroline was giving him the glare of the century as he slowly backed up to melt away in the oven of meaningless costumed bodies.

It was going to be a long night.
