HBCUS (#FAMU) & The Superbowl #FAMUHistoryISBlackHistory Alonzo "Jake" Gaither (11April1903-18Feb1994) Phi Beta Sigma #FAMUFootball coach 1945-69 (25Yrs)   His won–loss record 204–36–4 (.844 winning percentage) is among the BEST OF ANY #CollegeFootballCoach. #JakeGaither coached 36 #AllAmerican players and 42 went on to play in the #NationalFootballLeague (#NFL). #AlonzoJakeGaither was named #SouthernIntercollegiateAthleticConference Coach (#CIAC) of the Decade. 1962: #CollegeDivisionCoach of the Year by the #AmericanFootballCoaches Association 1974: #WalterCampManOfTheYear 1975: #CollegeFootballHallOfFame  #AmosAlonzoStaggAward  The #JakeGaitherTrophy has been awarded to the best Black collegiate football player each year since 1978. The #JakeGaitherGymnasium is located on the #FAMU campus. Alonzo Jake Gaither died in Tallahassee, Florida in 1994. The #JakeGaitherHouse where he lived is now a cultural center. Dr. Lindsay Sarjeant, who handles the musical arrangements for the #Marching100, said he spoke with Prince via phone to discuss the show. The two collaborated until the arrangement was — in Prince's words — perfect. "He was just like a regular person," said Sarjeant, a professor of music.  "We talked, one musician to another. We talked about the instruments and how many people marched in the band. Talking to him was like talking to another musician. We sent the arrangement back and forth twice.
