Watched The Batman today (with my dad)
I wanna start by saying I LOVE this Gotham City. It's always raining, it's always dark, everything is dirty and old (the falling down type of old) and even in daylight the clouds keep the town in the dark even if partially. This of course includes the Wayne mansion that looks like a gothic church and I ain't even kidding. Best town ever 10/10 would not live in it.
And tbh I didn't doubt RobPatt not even for one second. I mean a rich guy who lives in a cave and has the weirdest vibes? Dude wasn't even acting! Batman is extra crazy in this movie and Bruce is not the usual playboy celebrity, instead he's a cloistered billionaire that the average person can't even recognize at first sight. It's a big change. I like it, but my dad didn't like it so much. It's a bold decision!
Kudos also to the great Zoe Kravitz. Homegirl has come a long way since divergent and we couldn't be more proud. She is amazing in this and her chemistry with batz is hypnotizing. She's too smart to her own good and is not interested in being a hero as Bruce is. She wants the shit to hit the fan and I love that for her.
The rest of the cast is amazing. Jeffrey Wright is always a pleasure; Peter Sarsgaard was a nice surprise; Paul Dano gave his A game; and Andy Serkis brings a new take on Alfred that i appreciated a lot.
My one complain tho is Colin Farrell. Don't get me wrong I love the guy but I'm not a huge fan of actors who use A LOT of prosthetics to be in character. And let me tell it's impossible to see Colin underneath all of the characterization. If makes me wonder if the actor is not recognizable why cast him at all? Why go all the way to make him not him? Anyways I'm just a movie enthusiast you can disagree with me.
The story is good. The riddles kept me guessing and the serial killer aspect of Edward N was well executed. The guy with the bomb on his neck was my fav part of the movie. The countdown, the riddles, the desperation of the poor dude *chef kiss*
I think the plot of Thomas Wayne was kind of way too convoluted if I'm being honest. I simply did not keep up with that at all lmao. But the movie is without a doubt a detective movie and I think Matt Reeves hit the nail on this aspect.
Also Barry Keoghan is the joker. I'm sure he'll make a good joker but honestly? I'm not particularly keen to see another joker in the movies. Batman just has so many good villains, y'know? I think the ventriloquist would make an amazing villain for a movie and I dream of seeing that happen one day.
