mid-year fic update
@discordantwords shared what she’s posted so far this year and gave some tantalizing hints about what she’s working on next (good stuff!!). I love hearing what you all have written so far and what you have in the works!
So far this year I’ve posted three stories- 2 221b ficlets and one story for Holmestice. I’ve now hit 15 works at AO3, which frankly blows my mind. I’m so, so late to the fic party, but better late than never!
Paperweight (221, T, Sherlock-POV, Post-TST, ANGST ANGST ANGST)
Paperweight (n). A usually small heavy object used to hold down loose papers.
Sherlock's heart will bear him through.
Horribile Dictu (221, T, John-POV, TRF, ANGST ANGST ANGST)
Horribile Dictu (adv). Horrible to relate
John doesn't want to say the words out loud.
Steady As They Go (5336, M, John-POV, Post-TGG, First Time, NO ANGST)
It was inevitable, really.
_ _ _ _ _
Next up (hopefully) is Of Shags and Squires, my BBC-update of The Adventure of the Reigate Squire. As in ACD canon, John whisks a recovering Sherlock away the countryside, to what happens to be the home of John’s old Army friend, Colin Hayter. John means to relax and reconnect, both with his friend and with Sherlock, but Sherlock has other ideas. There’s a string of seemingly nonsensical robberies to solve, not to mention the return of the murderous Buckland Shag of local legend. Throw in the monkey wrench of budding romance and the game is on!
At some point this year, I’d like to finish my Sally Donovan WIP, and I’d also love to finally finish my Bogeyman story. If I can get that one done by Halloween, I’d be thrilled.
What all have you done so far this year (fic, vids, art, anything) and what do you have in the pipeline? As DW said, let’s get each other hyped up!

HOLLY ROBINSON PEETE, RUKIYA BERNARD AND ANTONIO CAYONNE STAR IN ‘CHRISTMAS IN EVERGREEN: BELLS ARE RINGING,’ A NEW, ORIGINAL MOVIE PREMIERING DECEMBER 5, ON HALLMARK CHANNEL
Part of the Network’s Annual “Countdown to Christmas” Programming Event
STUDIO CITY, CA – November 24, 2020 – Holly Robinson Peete (“A Family Christmas Gift,” “Chicago Fire”), Rukiya Bernard (“One Winter Weekend,” “Van Helsing”), and Antonio Cayonne (“Fashionably Yours,” “Psych 2: Lassie Come Home”) star in “Christmas in Evergreen: Bells Are Ringing,” a new, original movie premiering Saturday, December 5 (8 p.m. ET/PT), on Hallmark Channel as part of the network’s annual “Countdown to Christmas” programming event – your home for the holiday. Barbara Niven (“Chesapeake Shores”) Colin Lawrence (“Riverdale”) and Ashley Williams (“Never Kiss a Man in a Christmas Sweater”) also star.
As we return to Evergreen for the fourth installment, wedding preparations are underway for beloved mayor Michelle (Peete) and her fiancé Thomas (Lawrence). With Thomas out of town for work and only able to plan long distance, Michelle must juggle her priorities and decides to hire her friend, and sister-in-law-to-be, Hannah (Bernard) to take over responsibilities on Evergreen’s soon to launch Christmas Museum. Michelle must also process an unexpected bit of family news when her sister Sonya (Marci T. House, “Picture Perfect Mysteries”) comes to town for the festivities. One of Evergreen’s most dependable residents, known for helping out anyone who asks, Hannah is thrilled when she’s given the opportunity to take over the museum and carve out a project of her own. The project isn’t without its challenges and when things don’t quite turn out as planned, the town of Evergreen shows there is more than one way to be there for each other at Christmas.
“Christmas in Evergreen: Bells Are Ringing” is from Crown Media Productions, LLC. Jacquelyn Renner is executive producers. Charles Cooper is producer. Linda-Lisa Hayter directed from a script by Zac Hug and Shari Sharpe.

International Biennial of Landscape Architecture of Barcelona
International Biennial of Landscape Architecture of Barcelona, Catalan Design Event 2021
International Biennial of Landscape Architecture of Barcelona 2021
Updated 2 Oct 2021 + 19 Sep 2021
Location: Barcelona, Catalunya, north east Spain
The project ‘Brooklyn Bridge Park’ in New York by Michael Van Valkenburgh wins the Rosa Barba International Landscape Prize 2021
The project Brooklyn Bridge Park in New York designed by Michael Van Valkenburgh has been proclaimed this afternoon winner of the Rosa Barba 2021 International Landscape Prize, which is awarded within the symposium of the 11th International Biennial of Landscape Architecture Biennial, Barcelona, which took place from September 27th to October 2nd.
Designed and built over the past 20 years, Brooklyn Bridge Park spans 85 acres along 1.3 miles of the East River waterfront. The project has transformed the hardened industrial site of abandoned warehouses, obsolete piers, and decaying bulkheads into a vibrant public space. Today, park elements improve public access, reanimate six piers, and restore ecological diversity, blurring the edge between the East River and the park and proposing a new model for transforming civic urban waterfronts.
The Rosa Barba International Landscape Prize consists of an economic reward of 15,000 € and it is awarded to a landscaping project built during the 5 years prior to the symposium date.
The 11th International Biennial of Landscape Architecture of Barcelona will be held online and will discuss solutions to address climate change mitigation with professionals and activists of landscape and architecture
• The event, which will take place from the 27th of September to the 2nd of October, will be exceptionally held virtually, with free registration.
• It will include: A symposium, the Rosa Barba International Landscape Award, and the International Landscape Schools Award – Banco Sabadell Foundation.
• The motto of the symposium “Climate change, again: City and Nature”, highlights the use of landscape as a tool to face the climate emergency.
• Among the 42 experts who will attend the Biennial there are the American landscaper and climate activist Martha Schwartz, the French writer and gardener Gilles Clément, and the architect author of Brooklyn Bridge Park in New York, Michael Van Valkenburgh.

11th International Biennial of Landscape Architecture of Barcelona
Barcelona, September 16, 2021.- From the 27th of September to the 2nd of October, 2021 a new edition of the International Biennial of Landscape Architecture of Barcelona will take place, which will host the symposium “Climate change, again: City and Nature” to reflect on the importance of landscape in reducing climate change, as well as the Rosa Barba International Landscape Award and the International Landscape Schools Award – Banco Sabadell Foundation.
The event will, let another year, bring together professionals and experts in landscaping and architecture in a congress that has become a reference on an international scale. The symposium will count with 8 renowned guests who will explain tools to face the climate emergency, the authors of the 11 finalist landscape projects of the prestigious Rosa Barba International Landscape Award and, last but not least, representatives of the 8 finalist schools of the Award. Landscape Schools International.
During the Biennial, the Book-catalogue of the 10th International Landscape Biennial held in 2018 will also be presented. The UPC School of Architecture (ETSAB) will host the exhibition of the finalists of both awards.
Given the context of the pandemic caused by Covid19, this edition of the Biennial will be held online, with the exception of the closing ceremony, which will take place at the COAC and the Palau de la Música (Barcelona, Spain).
The 11th International Biennial of Landscape Architecture of Barcelona is organized by the Association of Architects of Catalonia and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, and has the institutional support of the Barcelona Metropolitan Area, the Barcelona City Council, the Barcelona Provincial Council, the collaboration of Banco Sabadell Foundation, and the collaboration of the ISUF Congress, the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA), the International Federation of Landscape Architects of Europe (IFLA Europe) and the New European Bauhaus.
The Symposium: a showcase of the best landscape projects and the presence of experts from the sector

This year the motto of the Biennial symposium is “Climate change, again: City and Nature”. The finalists of the two prizes awarded by the Biennial also participate in the Symposium: Rosa Barba (professionals) and Schools (architecture universities). Watchmen (2009)
Action, Drama, Mystery |
Watchmen is a American neo-noir superhero film based on the 1986–87 DC Comics limited series of the same name by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. Directed by Zack Snyder.
A dark and dystopian deconstruction of the superhero genre, the film is set in an alternate history in the year 1985 at the height of the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union, as a group of mostly retired American superheroes investigates the murder of one of their own before uncovering an elaborate and deadly conspiracy, while their moral limitations are challenged by the complex nature of the circumstances.
In an alternate United States, beginning in 1939 during the fading Interwar period, a team of costumed crime-fighters is formed – the ”Minutemen”. The 1960s Vietnam War era through the mid-1980s Cold War sees the rise of the “Watchmen” team of heroes, whose existence dramatically affects world events. In 1959, after his apparent death in an Intrinsic Field Generator accident, Dr. Jon Osterman remakes his body as a god-like being dubbed “Doctor Manhattan”. The U.S. government utilizes his powers to win the Vietnam War and gain a strategic advantage over the Soviet Union which, by 1985, threatens thermonuclear war. The Comedian suppresses evidence of the Watergate scandal. By overwhelming public support, the 22nd Amendment is repealed, allowing President Richard Nixon to win a third term.
As anti-vigilante sentiment sweeps the nation, coupled with a nationwide police strike, the Keene Act is passed in 1977, declaring all “costumed adventuring” and “vigilantism” illegal. While most heroes like Daniel Dreiberg and Laurie Jupiter retire, Doctor Manhattan and the Comedian become government agents, and Rorschach continues to operate outside the law.
Director: Zack Snyder
Writers: David Hayter (screenplay), Alex Tse (screenplay), Dave Gibbons (graphic novel illustrator), Alan Moore (graphic novel)
Stars: Malin Åkerman, Billy Crudup, Matthew Goode, Carla Gugino, Jackie Earle Haley, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Patrick Wilson

For the writing meme, I'd love to hear your thoughts on 4, 18, and 33?
Thank you for the ask! <3
4. Do you have any OCs? Do you have a story for them?
None fully fleshed out in any of my posted fics, now that I think about it. I have some WIPs that are updates of ACD canon and I'm putting my own spin on some canon characters. For example, Alice Trevor as Victor Trevor's mum in my version of GLOR, and Colin Hayter as a twist on Colonel Hayter in my version of REIG. Not quite OCs in the literal sense, I suppose. I do have a Sally Donovan-centric WIP that will feature some of her family and they'll be true OCs.
18. First, second, or third person?
Third! I've not written anything in first or second person yet. I've struggled to write first person, but it's a POV I've never been able to connect with. I might finally succeed with my Johnlock/Stand By Me AU, which will have flashbacks in first person (John's POV). If I can't make that work, I'll fall back on always trusty third person.
33. Give your writing a compliment.
I'm quite pleased with my 221b ficlets! It can be tricky to convey so much in so few words. I like to think I've done very well with that format. Sometimes I nail the title too- choke, hold for example.
More Writing Asks here!

Another response to my WIP Meme, yay!
@sarahthecoat asked: “oh, does shags and squires have any relationship to REIG?”
It does! :) This is my oldest WIP and one I’m very fond of, even though I’m really good at ignoring it, heh. It’s a BBC take on the canon story and I’ve mixed it up with the legend of the Buckland Shag, something I stumbled across by accident when I first starting working on this. The story follows canon loosely, in that John drags a recovering and reluctant Sherlock down to the countryside to relax. As in canon, their relaxing weekend goes sideways when they get caught up in a case, only this time it’s not as straightforward a solution.
Colonel Hayter is now Colin Hayter, a good friend of John’s from their days in service. William Kirwin is now Liam Kirwin, but his character diverges from canon as I like him too much. Annie Morrison, barely a mention in REIG, plays a much bigger role too.
Colin Hayter was leaning against a black Land Rover parked in the narrow street in front of the station. His head was down, focused on the phone in his hands, and he didn’t see John and Sherlock as they walked out of the station.
“Oi, Hayter you berk, what kind of welcome is this?” John quickened his pace and jogged across the road to where Colin stood.
Startled, Colin looked up and grinned when he saw John. He tucked his phone away and stood straighter. “Watson, you wee bastard! What were you expecting, a hero’s parade?”
John snorted. “What else?” He stumbled in his haste and laughed some more.
“Still as graceful as always, I see. Come here, give us a cuddle!”
John dropped his bag by the side of the car and reached for Colin. “My friend, it’s good to see you.”
“Too long, John. It’s been too long.”
“I know, it has been.”
The two men hugged tightly.
Sherlock, who had taken his time crossing the street, stood off to the side and looked a bit unsure.
John squeezed Colin a final time and turned to Sherlock, who was watching them both with interest. John could only wonder at the deductions the man was making. “Sherlock, this is Colin. Colin, Sherlock.”
Colin stuck out his hand. “Sherlock, it’s excellent to finally meet you. I’ve been following John’s blog and expect to hear all about the stories that didn’t make it in there. I get the feeling our John keeps a lot off the page.”
Sherlock clasped Colin’s hand. “Don’t believe a word he says.”
Colin laughed. “Oh, you and I have some good tales to trade, I think.”
I have it set S1/S2 and it has lots of my favorite tropes: hurt/comfort, holidayfic, friends to lovers, competency kink. I have bits of John’s blog post about the case scattered throughout the fic. It’s my first (if I ever finish) chaptered work and right now I’m at 8036 words.
Thank you for asking and for indulging me!

fanfic tag game
I was tagged by @discordantwords , thank you!!
Ao3 Name: thetimemoves(WriteOut)
Fandoms: BBC Sherlock
Number of fics: 10
1. Fic you spent the most time on: This is a bit of a cheat, but Nothing More Deceptive, which is a post-Reichenbach gift fic for @discordantwords . My intent is to write a full-length fic on this (a sherlockkinkmeme prompt that asks ‘what if the old man in TEH is actually Sherlock). Since it’s taking me a lot longer than I expected (years), I wanted to put out a 221b ficlet for my friend, who has been enamored with this prompt from the start.
2. Fic you spent the least time on: I’ll say my 221 ficlet Is It Any Wonder, which is Sherlock’s POV of his reunion with John in TEH.
3. Longest Fic: Feel My Heart Banging Like a Gun My most recent fic and my first M-rated story (I included cocks and not as an insult!).
4. Shortest Fic: Not including my 221 ficlets (I’ve written four), Carpe Vinum, my Sally Donovan-POC/Centric story that I’m quite fond of.
5. Most hits: Abditory (which happens to be my first ever Sherlock fic, a 5 + 1 fic).
6. Most kudos: Abditory
7. Most comment threads: Forth They Went Together
8. Fave Fic you wrote: This is a hard one as each one of my fics means a lot to me. I’ll go with Abditory, just because it was the first fic I ever posted and I’m still in awe that I have written and posted stories. So surreal, but such fun!
9. Fic you want to rewrite/expand on: The First Law. This is a 221b ficlet of Mike Stamford’s POV in ASiP. I envision this as the first part of The Laws of Motion series, which is every series from Stamford’s POV. I have it outlined and the next story has been started. @totallysilvergirl ‘s enthusiasm for the 221b ficlet I posted has been a big motivation.
10. Share a bit of your WIP or share a story idea that you’re planning: I've spent the last couple of years working on a BBC update of the canon story The Reigate Squires. An excerpt:
Colin Hayter was leaning against a black Land Rover parked in the narrow street in front of the station. His head was down, focused on the phone in his hands, and he didn’t see John and Sherlock as they walked off the platform.
I’ll tag @educatedinyellow @vulgarweed @clevermanka  @greenapricot @the-sign-of-tea  @shinysherlock  @bakerstmel  @totallysilvergirl and anyone else who would like to do this. Consider yourself tagged!

Sunday Six (or Seven)
It’s yet another (I know, I know) retelling of The Reigate Squires and I’m having loads of fun with it so far. Think S2ish, Bamf!John, brilliant Sherlock, UST UST UST. From an excerpt from John’s blog:
So it was that the next weekend Sherlock and I were on a train out of London to visit an old friend of mine from the army. Colin Hayter and I were in Afghanistan together and helped each other through many tough scrapes. We’d been in touch recently and Colin invited me and Sherlock down to his place outside of Reigate. It took some doing, but I managed to convince Sherlock that a break would do us both good. Scotland Yard could deal without his services for a short while and besides, it wasn’t like Reigate was that far from London. He’d survive a few days away from London’s criminal element, right? I should have known better…

Two Sundays in a row! I’m going to do this until I start posting this story. To quote myself from last Sunday, it’s yet another (I know, I know) retelling of The Reigate Squires and I’m having loads of fun with it so far. Think S2ish, Bamf!John, brilliant Sherlock, UST UST UST.
