Oasis (1/2)
Summary: When they were alone, she couldn’t stop herself from constantly wanting to touch her, as if to make sure she wasn’t just a fever dream. Just a brush of her fingers here, a tap of her shoulder there, hands holding her waist, thighs pressing against each other. Denali was a like a drug that Rosé never wanted to give up.
And yet she had to.
Note: I just had to write this and get it out of my system. I don’t know if it’ll have smut in the end, but we’ll see.
Prefer reading it on AO3?
Rosé gripped the steering wheel as Denali hummed along to the radio next to her, oblivious to the thoughts racing through the other girl’s head. They were heading to The Blu Lagoon on Rosé’s night off for a night of dancing, something that the both of them loved to do. It was their love for music and dance that had first brought them together, Rosé having first been attracted to the way Denali had moved on the dance floor without a care in the world, ignoring all the lustful stares on her and just moving to the beat.
Denali had been new to New York, moving from Chicago to train with a new ice skating coach. It was a cold chilly night of just exploring the night life when she had chanced upon The Blu Lagoon. The bouncer, Kandy, had let her in with just a wink when she had stood staring at the bright fluorescent lights spelling out the name of the club slash bar, letting her completely bypass the line, and she was soon engulfed in the magical world that was The Blu Lagoon. The swirling lights of blue, pink and purple and the disco like dance floor drew her almost like a moth to a flame. She had gone to the bar first and ordered a few shots from the bartender, who’s name tag read “Joey”, before finally stepping onto the dance floor. It was there where she finally felt as if she had found a place where she could call home.
With the rhythm pounding and the beat thrumming about, Denali began to sway to the music, eyes closed as she let the music wash over her. She felt hands reach for her, but she easily danced out of their reach, not wanting anyone to disturb the peace that she had finally found. It had been a struggle for the past few days trying to fit into a city that felt so different and foreign. The people were different, cultures and mannerisms almost unknown to her, and she had worried if she’d ever find her footing, but there in that moment, one thing was for certain: music was her ground zero.
The music started to ebb after a while, and the sound of a live band began to come on. Opening her eyes, Denali spun around before her eyes finally landed on the stage where three women stood before a live band, microphones at the ready as they started to speak, introducing themselves as Stephanie’s Child. Her eyes traced their faces, clocking the pastel and bright coloured hair before settling on the one on the right. She had thick pink curls pulled into a high ponytail and had introduced herself as Rosé, and in that moment, Denali knew there was something special about her. When the girls began to sing, Denali closed her eyes again and let the music and their voices take over, guiding her movements. She soaked in their sound as the music took over her, their voices seeming to caress her very skin. Opening her eyes once more, dark brown eyes met hazel ones, and a fire seemed to envelope her. Smirking, she carried on moving to the music. Denali broke eye contact and spun around, back to the stage, but very much aware of the eyes burning holes into her back.
When their set had ended, Denali had gone back to the bar to order a drink, her skin now damp with sweat from how much energy she had expanded while dancing. She perched herself on a stool, sipping her drink, a simple glass of rum and coke to cool her down, when she felt a presence next to her. Turning her head, she watched as Rosé ordered a drink for herself from Joey before turning to face her, a lopsided grin on her face.
That very night, Rosé had brought Denali home and fucked her through the night. She remembered the nips to her throat, the wet slide of skin on skin and the broken moans being fucked out of her, her hips and thighs blooming with finger shaped bruises. The next morning, Rosé had woken her up with kisses and her fingers and orgasms while Denali whimpered, oversensitive and thoroughly fucked out. She had left her place with shaky legs and Rosé’s phone number saved in her phone, and the rest was history.
It had been a whirlwind of a few months, with romantic dates, shared kisses and relentless love making. The chemistry between them had been explosive, and even though Rosé wasn’t quite ready to put a label to whatever it was that they had, Denali didn’t mind because at the end of the day, it was her arms that kept her safe and sound.
New York was now her second home. Jan and Lagoona felt like her own sisters with how often she was over at their place. She’d made friends with the other people at the bar, Kandy and Joey being the first, then Tamisha later on. She’d learned that the sisters were the owners of the bar, and that Tamisha was the one who ran the day to day operations. Denali had even started to get to know Olivia, one of the other skaters that was also training under Utica, her new coach. Life in New York was finally settling for her, and she was happy.
What Denali hadn’t known was that Utica had been talking to Rosé.
Rosé had been happy too with how their relationship had been progressing. She had fallen for the spirit and fire that Denali had exuded on the dance floor, and the more she got to know her, the more she felt herself falling deeper and deeper. Rosé loved how Denali seemed to embody life itself. She was always so full of passion and energy, and it was especially obvious when she was on the rink, blades cutting the ice and body fluid in her movements as she moved from trick to trick. Rosé had been so enamoured with everything that was Denali that she couldn’t imagine her life without the ice princess. Her ice princess.
Sometimes the overwhelming feelings that she felt for the other girl scared her, feeling her own happiness hinging more and more onto her. Before Denali had come into her life, Rosé had been perfectly happy being her strong independent self. Sure, she had flings here and there, but none of them seemed to compare to the blonde. Rosé wanted to keep Denali to herself, wanted to keep her locked up in a cage so that no one else could have her, so that she could have her all to herself, afraid to lose her.
When they were alone, she couldn’t stop herself from constantly wanting to touch her, as if to make sure she wasn’t just a fever dream. Just a brush of her fingers here, a tap of her shoulder there, hands holding her waist, thighs pressing against each other. Denali was a like a drug that Rosé never wanted to give up.
And yet she had to.
Rosé had been watching Denali during one of her practices at the rink, watching her warm up on the ice before going through the motions of her routine when Utica had approached her, sitting next to her. They had watched Denali skating on the ice for a bit before Utica began to talk. She was saying how Rosé was starting to become a distraction, and that before she had come around, Denali had been completely dedicated to the ice. Now with Rosé in the picture, her focus had wavered, and her chances of being able to make it to the nationals were looking slimmer with each passing day. Rosé felt herself grow numb as Utica continued, saying how Denali was destined for great things, that the world was her oyster, but how could the world be hers if she was tethered here?
It was like a slap to the face as Rosé processed what Utica was saying. That she was holding her back.
That Rosé was the one keeping Denali away from her dreams.
Utica had patted her on the shoulder, giving her one last meaningful look as she walked back to the rink to Denali, and Rosé knew that Denali had never been hers to keep.
As Rosé pulled up into the parking lot behind The Blu Lagoon, she killed the engine and sat in silence, unsure of how to broach the topic. If she didn’t speak now, she was afraid that she’d never let Denali go. Taking a deep breath, she turned to look at Denali, feeling herself die a little as the blonde looked back at her, eyes bright and lips stretched into a smile.
“Denali, what are we doing?” Her smile faltered, and Rosé felt her heart clench, already second guessing what she was about to do. “What do you mean, Rosie?” Rosé took a deep breath. She could do this, this was for Denali’s own good. She had to severe this thing between them before she was too far gone and wouldn’t be able to let her go.
“I mean what are we doing together? You shouldn’t be with me, and yes, it’s been fun and it’s been nice, but I think…” Rosé paused, her heart clenching as she saw Denali’s lower lip tremble. Could she really go through with this? Could she really break her heart?
“But you think what, Rosie?” Swallowing hard, Rosé continued. “I think we should end this.”
There was a deafening silence as Rosé looked to the front, refusing to meet Denali’s gaze. “…what?” She swallowed the lump in her throat, nodding as her hands clenched into fists. She couldn’t take it back anymore, now that it was finally out there in the open. A beat later, she felt Denali’s hand on her clenched fist. She bit the inside of her cheek as she fought not to take hold of Denali’s hand.
“Rosé, look at me.”
Taking a shuddering breath, Rosé looked at Denali, and her heart stilled as tear filled brown eyes looked back at her.
“I love you, Rosé. I love you, and I know that you love me too.”
Shaking her head, Rosé whispered back as she tore her eyes away from Denali’s face. “You’re wrong.” She felt Denali’s hand on hers tighten, fingers shaking.
“I don’t believe you. Rosé, look me in the eye and tell me that you don’t love me.”
Rosé shut her eyes, swallowing hard. She could do this. She had to do this. It was for her own good. She looked back at Denali, the tears in Denali’s eyes now falling, her lips trembling as if silently pleading with her.
“I don’t love you, Denali.”
There was a stillness in the air, and time seemed to tick at a glacial pace before Denali finally moved her hand, sniffing as she wiped her tears away. She moved to get out of the car when Rosé stopped her. “Wait, let me take you home.” Denali laughed bitterly, turning to look at Rosé, eyes almost devoid of any life.
“I don’t know what makes you think that I’m going home now. I came here to dance, and that’s exactly what I’m going to do. You can go home if you want to, but I’m staying right here.”
Denali opened the door and slammed it shut behind her, walking away from Rosé and back to the dance floor that she knew and loved.

I swear this will end well.

“So I’m not trying to insinuate that I have a preference, but what club are we heading to anyway?” The odd phrasing of that question makes me laugh to myself as I put the key into the ignition, and the sound of the car engine slowly rumbling to life fills my ears, resounding and warmly familiar. I’ve always found that sound to be soothing; it means that escape is imminent, it means the desire to explore and go anywhere but here is about to be quelled in a matter of seconds. I should really glance over my shoulder or at least check the rearview before practically fucking speeding out of this park, but I don’t bother. We’re the only people here, alright? It ain’t no thing. Nobody’s in danger. “No preference? Yeah, me either,” I say, more about my choice in partners than in nightclubs. I crack up a little at the joke; no else finds it funny because no one else understands what I mean by that, and that’s fine by me, hell, that’s what makes it so funny. “We are headed to Studio 57. I’ve never been. But I saw that it was a play on Studio 54 and I almost lost my shit. You ever heard about Studio 54?” He takes a drag from his cigarette. “Yeah, I’ve heard of it. Why?” Oh, bitch... “Oh, no shit?! Really?! Damn, I didn’t think you would have. Oh my god, it was a once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon. Lemme break it down for you. So these two dudes Steve and Ian were, like, besties and what not, both grew up middle class in Brooklyn, went to the same college where they met each other. Their respective careers didn’t satisfy either of them too well, so they rather fortuitously became business partners when Ian had to act as Steve’s attorney to get him out of a legal situation where he had fucked himself pretty good. They were really determined, really idealistic, really wanted to find that one thing that could propel them into financial abundance, some kind of solid, eternal stability. Ian was very enchanted by the idea of owning a nightclub, just could not shake this dream so he and Steve turned this old theater on West 54th Street into a nightclub, and that’s where they got the name. The renovation cost $400,000 and took just six weeks, which, you know, gives you an idea of how illegal it was. Didn’t have permits or nothing, no liquor license either. They felt it would be easier to get a series of one-day catering permits. From the day Studio 54 opened it was a massive fucking success. It defined an era. It was emblematic of so much more than just a nightclub. It captured what was possibly the most care-free and jovial part of the ‘70s. The Vietnam war was finally over, Nixon had fucked off out of office, disco was at an all-time peak, lots of people had recently become unshackled by the sexual revolution that was going on. I mean, no one had a fuck to give about anything, it was— it was a strangely idyllic and picturesque time. A continuation of the ‘60s, except the ‘80s were fast approaching, and people were gettin’ a little sick of quaaludes and started going gaga for uppers like coke. This is a huge part of why Studio 54 was so popular. It was practically a coke den. Another contributing factor to its success was the influx of celebrities that flooded it nightly. We’re talking people like David Bowie, Debbie Harry, Michael Jackson, Cher, Diana Ross, Tina Turner, Mick Jagger and his eight thousand wives, Elton John, Andy Warhol, Truman fucking Capote randomly, Elizabeth Taylor also randomly...and that ain’t even all of ‘em. It was fucking crazy! They had such high demand that they had to turn a lot of us commoners away. There were some normal people, but there were also celebrities, performers, drag queens...this is also what separates it from other nightclubs. They never turned away gay people. You were always allowed in if you were gay. Hell, gay guys could fucking kiss on the dancefloor and nobody cared. And this was the ‘70s! For a lot of people, that was probably their first time seeing anything like that: gay people just existing, having a good time and living life just like anyone else. That’s so beautiful to me. To think that...it was a haven for inclusion and acceptance when the streets were not. You could masquerade as straight if you were gay, but if you were trans, you were putting your life at risk every time you walked down the streets of New York. But you were safe at Studio. Everyone was safe, everyone was welcome and wanted. It was some sort of utopia, that’s for sure. I might be lookin’ at it through rose-colored shades, but the way I see it, it earned its fame through being unique. There had never been a club like it before, and there will never be a club like it again. It was...exceptionally elaborate, unparalleled in its grandeur and glamour. Shamelessly, even proudly hedonistic, a little corrupt, for sure —but also so very free and joyous, and unifying. They celebrated everything and everyone. But life ain’t just one huge party, no matter how much I wish it were. It ended after a while, ‘cause it was always gonna eventually. There’s much debate about this — some say it happened ‘cause Steve ran his big fucking mouth to the press and said that profits are astronomical and only the mafia does better, some say Studio was already being watched and what Steve said ain’t got shit to do with it. Anyway, the place was raided by the IRS in late ‘78. They had a warrant to search and seize any and all records relating to the club’s finances and found 300 fucking quaalades in a vault and busted Ian for coke possession. But then they lawyered up so hard, lemme tell you. Thirty seven lawyers were working on behalf of Ian and Steve. I guess that kind of backup is necessary when you get caught skimming 2 to 3 million dollars. They got a 12-count indictment, only admitted to 2 counts of tax evasion and the government said fuck it, we’ll drop the rest. They were only sentenced to serve 3 and a half years in prison and to each pay a $20K fine, but got out within a year.”
I release a heavy sigh, having damn near talked myself out. I watch the city lights illuminating the night sky and feel briefly overwhelmed by the amount of thoughts in my head.
“I don’t know, I guess that means something,” I pause. “All that glitters is not gold. I’ve wondered a lot about...why they did everything they did. Some people think they’re inherently bad, or just plain stupid. Or they were so self-absorbed and arrogant that they wanted it all, and never could’ve imagined a world where they didn’t get it. I don’t like those theories too much. It feels very surface-level. You know, the desire to overindulge is often born out of a deep dissatisfaction and sadness. What are you trying to cover up if not unhappiness? Like— happy people can still be greedy. It’s often those who already have the world and then some that are greediest. But there’s something to be said about the utter blindness that overtakes you when you’re drowning in emotion. They wanted a way out of their current situation, you know? They wanted to make it big real, real bad and it’s ‘cause they were compensating for something. Steve loved the fame, was a whore for it, probably loved it more than the money. Ian loved being respected as a businessman and getting to live out his passion and be good at it. There’s something deeper here. These were two very lost people - one more so than the other. They thought that Studio 54 would guide them to a better place, the place they had yearned to be in their whole lives but they just ended up falling off the deep end. It’s sad. They should’ve known better. The american dream is a lie. Everyone who chases the american dream usually ends up living a nightmare. And you know I don’t think Shakespeare wrote any of his work, but if he did — he was really onto something when he said these violent delights have violent ends.”

Marvel's Godzilla Comics Were Monstrously Weird
http://bit.ly/2ELKPpi
What happens when Godzilla comes to the Marvel Universe? Wonderful things, that's what.

Talk about a mash-up for the ages! In the glory days of the Bronze Age, Godzilla, the King of the Monsters, the star of a zillion rubber suited monster films, the greatest monster that ever flattened a city, arrived in the Marvel Universe. While this scenario would give filmgoers of today an aneurysm of pure joy, it was par for the course of the anything goes comic scene of the 1970s. But that doesn’t make it any less awesome that Godzilla met, fought, teamed up with, and terrified some of Marvel’s greatest icons.
One of the wackiest parts of this book is that even though Marvel lost the rights to Godzilla after the book was canceled, some of the characters introduced in the Godzilla, King of the Monsters comic (including Godzilla himself-sorta) became part of the Marvel Universe. We’ll get into those characters in a bit but first, a little about the Godzilla title.
Godzilla, King of the Monsters was first published August 1977 and ran twenty four issues until 1979. The book was written by Doug Moench and drawn by Herb Trimpe. Trimpe was one of the greatest Hulk artists who ever lived and his work on Godzilla met the high monstrous standards he established on his run of Incredible Hulk.
Marvel’s Godzilla was thoroughly bugnuts and introduced some awesome new kaiju for Godzilla to fight. But the book also put Godzilla against some of Marvel’s mainstays. So let’s journey back to the days of bell bottoms, disco, and coked up baseball players with strange facial hair and take a long, fun look at the Marvel characters that faced the King of Monsters, Godzilla.
Nick Fury
Godzilla #1 (1977)
Well, Godzilla and Nick Fury never actually fought but how awesome would that be? Nick Fury was the first Marvel mainstay to pop up in Godzilla (the very first issue in fact), but it seemed like when Fury saw the thousand feet of nuclear terror that is Godzilla, he did what any great boss would do, he delegated the hell out of it to his underlings.
Which brings us to…
Timothy "Dum Dum" Dugan, Gabriel Jones, and Jimmy Woo
Beginning in Godzilla #1 (1977) and pretty much appearing in every issue of the series
Man, that’s a who’s who of SHIELD, huh? We have former Howler and SHIELD mainstay Dum Dum Dugan, we have Marvel’s first African American character in Gabriel Jones, and we have Marvel’s first Asian American character, a hero that actually predates the Marvel Age, the future leader of the Agents of ATLAS, Jimmy Woo. These weren’t generic soldiers for Godzilla to step on, they were tried and true Marvel legends and they had themselves a nuclear lizard to corral.
Now think about this, Dugan, Jones, and Woo have fought Hitler AND Godzilla and if that’s not a reason to love comics, I don’t know what is.
Buy Marvel's Godzilla Comics on Amazon
Anyway, under Fury’s orders these three SHIELD agents formed the "Godzilla Squad" and basically became the human protagonists of the Marvel series. Remember when you were a kid watching kaiju flicks and when the human characters came on screen, you would go get some chocolate milk and a PBJ with the corners cut off? Yeah, in the Marvel version of Godzilla those “dull” humans were three awesome and classic SHIELD agents. Beat that, Toho!
Doctor Demonicus and Batragon
Godzilla #4 (1977) Art by Tom Sutton
While not exactly a legend, Doctor Demonicus was one of the very few characters introduced in the pages of Godzilla that stuck around in the Marvel Universe long after the House of Ideas lost the publication rights to the King of Monsters. That being said, Toho had Godzilla face off against Mothra, Gidorah, Hedorah, Mecha Godzilla, and Rodan while Marvel had Godzilla go up against this La Parka looking douchebag.
read more - Godzilla: King of the Monsters Ending Explained
Demonicus was once Douglas Birely and used some bit of nonsense called the Lifestone to mutate animals into Kaiju. Okay, that’s kind of cool. After he tried to take down Godzilla with his mutated menagerie, Demonicus later appeared in the pages of Shogun Warriors (and God, I really need to hit the 25 cent bin and get a run on that gem of a title), Iron Man, and West Coast Avengers.
I mention Batragon here just because the monster’s name is almost Baragon, a famed Toho kaiju who had the distinction of taking on Toho’s version of Frankenstein in Frankenstein Conquers the World (1965) and also made a brief appearance in Destroy All Monsters (1968). Marvel’s Batragon was killed by Godzilla in its first appearance. Dick.
Anyway, while Batragon went to the big Monster Island in the sky, Demonicus would pop up now and again and serve as a reminder that if Demonicus was still around in the Marvel Universe, then Godzilla existed in continuity as well. So there.
The Champions
Godzilla #3 (1977)
What can be more Bronze Age (Bronze Age-ier?) than the strangest and most makeshift super team of them all going up against God-freakin’ zilla. For those of you not savvy with the finer points of Bronze Age trivia, The Champions were a Los Angeles based super hero team made up of a bunch of heroes that had absolutely nothing in common. It consisted of two classic X-Men (Iceman and Angel), a demon (Ghost Rider), Scarlett Johansson, a god (Hercules) and sometimes, a little known Russian woman who had darkness powers (Darkstar, because what else would you call a Russian chick with darkness powers).
Sadly, Ghost Rider and Darkstar did not appear in this issue but the rest of the team did after Godzilla came on shore in San Francisco. After hopping aboard the Champscraft (CHAMPSCRAFT!), the Champions arrived to stop Godzilla from taking out the Golden Gate Bridge (hey Hollywood, Marvel did it first!). It was pretty awesome to watch Hercules topple Godzilla with his bare hands, but tell me, what the hell was Black Widow supposed to do? Out-espionage Godzilla? Silliness.
read more: Godzilla: King of the Monsters - Complete Easter Eggs Guide
Anyway, we did get to see Iceman try to freeze Godzilla which is all sorts of awesome but the four Champions were no match for the beast and Godzilla took off without even registering the Champs. Sadly, we never got to see a demonic biker versus a radioactive dinosaur but the very idea of that clash pretty much defines everything my eight year old mind desired.
Red Ronin
Godzilla #6 (1978)
Red Ronin was a giant Shogun Warriors looking piece of awesome that SHIELD built to take down Godzilla. It was supposed to be piloted by James Woo of SHIELD but when the designer's grandson Robbie stole the armor to help divert Godzilla in one of its rampages, boy and robot became bonded and Marvel had its own version of Ultra Man/ Johnny Socko/ Jet Jaguar.
read more: A Brief History of King Ghidorah
The Red Ronin armor and Robbie became a consistent part of the Godzilla title and like Doctor Demonicus, Ronin even stuck around after the book was canceled. Red Ronin popped up in the pages of Iron Man and even took part in a Civil War crossover of all things. It was also part of Marvel’s Mega Morphs toy tie-in title and I’m pretty sure only I and Den of Geek’s own expert on all things strangely and wonderfully esoteric Gavin Jasper remembers that bit of business.
Whatever the case, thanks to Moench and Trimpe, Marvel now had its own kaiju stomping mech and it was glorious.
Yetrigar
Godzilla #10 (1978)
I really, really wanted to find a place for Yetrigar on this list because he’s a giant kaiju Yeti thing and I kind of love him in a bromance (not furry) sort of way. And lo and beyond, that Yetrigar here appeared in an issue of West Coast Avengers, so it totally counts!
Yetrigar was a Sasquatch encased with ice infused with and driven mad by radiation. It ran afoul of Godzilla and even took part in a three way dance with Godzilla and Red Ronin. Godzilla defeated the awesome looking beast but it was to return when Bobbi Morse, yes the very same Bobbi Morse on Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, revived the beast to distract her teammates so she could attend to a private matter.
read more: A Brief History of Rodan
Wow, she revived a giant Sasquatch as a ruse, that’s dedication and the whole thing really needs to be adapted on ABC at some point because you all know that the way to make Agents of SHIELD better is with a giant, radioactive Yeti thing.
Sadly, not a giant Dum Dum Dugan
Godzilla #17 (1978)
The cover of Godzilla #17 is almost the greatest comic book cover in history. It shows a seemingly giant Dum Dum Dugan about to take down Godzilla. One would think, nay wish, that Dum Dum somehow grew to enormous height and was ready to bare knuckle box Godzilla. Sadly, very sadly, this was not the case as this issue saw Dum Dum and SHIELD use Pym Particles to shrink and capture Godzilla.
read more: A Brief History of Mothra
So we were treated to a tiny Godzilla which is totally adorbs but we were deprived of a giant Dum Dum Dugan which is a tragedy, really. Imagine, Dum Dum’s mustache hairs would have been like suspension cables.
Sewer Rat
Godzilla #18 (1979)
Just to show that Moench and Trimpe had balls the size of Mothra eggs, the two legends had Godzilla go up against a New York sewer rat. Now, those rats can be pretty damn scary but this vermin was no match for the pint sized, Pym shrunken Godzilla. It might not have been much of a fight, but damn, is that one of the coolest covers ever or what?
Fantastic Four
Godzilla #20 (1979)
And then there was the time the Thing punched Godzilla in a giant shark tank. Thing. Godzilla. Sharks. How are you not buying this on eBay right now?
read more: What Went Wrong With Godzilla 1998?
During this issue, Godzilla is still affected by the Pym Particles but now is the size of a human. But Godzilla is still the King of Monsters and still gives the entire FF a run for its money. Sadly, there was never a Godzilla versus Galactus brawl but a nerd can dream.
Devil Dinosaur
Godzilla #21-22 (1979)
Things get timey wimey because why not just add time travel to the Bronze Age insanity of Godzilla. After the FF fished Godzilla out of the shark tank (and for that reason, I’m out, HA!), the team uses Dr. Doom’s time machine to shoot Godzilla back to prehistoric times because awesome. There Godzilla meets Devil Dinosaur and Moon Boy and fights off recurring Devil foes the Lizard Men. The time platform grew unstable (because reasons) and exploded, transporting a size restored Godzilla to the present.
read more: A Brief History of Marvel's Planet of the Apes Magazine
But of course Godzilla met Devil Dinosaur because how could Marvel resist? The only thing that would have made these two issues more awesome would have been if Marvel recruited Devil's creator Jack Kirby to draw Devil Dinosaur going up against Trimpe’s masterly crafted Godzilla.
The Avengers
Godzilla #23-24 (1979)
Godzilla arrived from the prehistoric past pissed off and ready to rumble. The Fantastic Four knew that they would need more help as they barely were able to take down a human sized Godzilla so they recruited the Avengers to help. So fans got Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, Yellowjacket, Wasp, Vision, and Scarlet Witch versus Godzilla. How’s that for a marque clash of the titans?
The Avengers were able to force Godzilla to retreat but the beast rallied and fought back more furious than ever. Where the FF and the Avengers failed, young Robbie succeeded. The boy who controlled Red Ronin tearfully begged Godzilla to leave New York alone. Godzilla understood and went out to sea.
J. Jonah Jameson and the Daily Bugle
Godzilla #23-24 (1979)
During the tussle with the Avengers and the FF, J. Jonah Jameson, Robbie Robinson, and the Daily Bugle popped up. One funny gag saw Jameson verbally going off on Godzilla in his office when suddenly Godzilla’s eye appeared outside Jameson’s window. It’s a good thing Jameson was wearing dark trousers I tells ya.
Fun fact: I am actually the very proud owner of the Trimpe original art from that sequence.
Spider-Man
Before the door was shut on Godzilla at Marvel, when the King of Monsters was swayed from destroying New York by young Robbie, Marvel’s flagship hero bid Godzilla a fond farewell. It was a heartfelt send off as the very symbol of the Marvel Universe said goodbye to a monster that had a too short stay.
But technically, things weren’t over just yet. Marvel may have lost the rights to Godzilla, but the monster in these awesome stores stayed in continuity. Soon, in the pages of Iron Man, writer Denny O’Neil and artist Luke McDonnell created a mutated dinosaur and established that this new dino was the mutated beast that rampaged across New York, went back in time and teamed up with Devil Dinosaur, and fought a sewer rat. Godzilla was gone in name only as O’Neil and McDonnell established that all those great Moench and Trimpe tales actually took place in the Marvel Universe whether Toho’s lawyers liked it or not!
Of course, Dark Horse Comics and IDW Publishing would continue Godzilla’s four color legacy, but before that, the King of Monsters left a blazing footprint across the Marvel Universe in some of the most insane comics published in the 70s.

No.3: SUNSHINE KITTY - TOVE LO
‘’Hey, you got drugs? I’m not the lady wood anymore, the sun is shinning now’’.
- Sweettalk My Heart. - Mateo. - Equally Lost (ft. Doja Cat). - Mistaken. - Anywhere u go. Producción: Ian Kirkpatrick (Dua Lipa, Selena Gomez, Julia Michaels), Jack & Coke (Hayley Kiyoko, Charli XCX), Joe Little (Taylor Swift, Lorde, Khalid, Imagine Dragons, MARINA), Mark Ralph (Clean Bandit), The Struts (Zara Larsson). Escritores: Caroline Ailin, Tove Lo, Doja Cat, Max Martin, MNEK, MC Zaac, Umberto Tavares. Disquera: Polydors Records. Artwork: Desconocido. xx R23
