They’re split pretty almost down the middle about it.

Coffee Drinkers: Sans (Undertale), Paps (Underswap Papyrus), Pyre (Underfell Papyrus), Mal (Swapfell Sans), Rus (Swapfell Papyrus), Slate (Horrortale Sans)

Nah, Pass: Papyrus (Undertale), Sky (Underswap Sans), Jasper (Underfell Sans), Papy (Horrortale Papyrus)

But! They do all have beverage preferences, under the cut! ;3

Sans (Undertale): Will drink coffee on occasion, but that’s not saying much because he’ll drink just about anything. He drinks ketchup, for fuck’s sake– it may have started as a gag but somewhere along the way he actually started to like the taste of it and well, that was that. If he’s on his best behavior and not taking joy in weirding onlookers out, though, he’ll order a cola with his meal. He’s not picky about brands, he thinks any kind just pairs really well with greasy foods and he appreciates the burger/fries/cola combo. It’s a classic!

Papyrus (Undertale): Doesn’t like the taste of coffee and it’s not like he needs it for the energy so why drink it? As far as other beverages go, he does have a special weakness for milkshakes. They’re sweet and creamy and the word ‘milk’ is right in there, so it’s…probably at least a little good for bones, right? Don’t tell him otherwise, he doesn’t want to hear it, it’s one of the unhealthy indulgences he allows himself, he has a sweet tooth!

Sky (Underswap Sans): Yet another skeleton who really doesn’t need the caffeine boost most days. His favorite way to stay hydrated is with plain ol’ water. Call him a purist, but he’s convinced that there’s nothing in the world more refreshing than the feeling of an ice cold drink of H2O after a hard workout!

Paps (Underswap Papyrus): He’ll drink coffee, but only when it has so much sugar in it that you’re not sure if even still counts as coffee. He does the same to tea, which he drinks a little bit more often because he likes the way it pairs with pastries and a good book, and it’s a little easier to relax with a cup of tea than it is with coffee– unless it’s decaf, in which case, why even bother? He avoids milk and cream like the plague, though, he feels like it weighs his drinks of choice down too much.

Jasper (Underfell Sans): Doesn’t like the taste of coffee, but he does have some sleep issues. He may be narcoleptic or on the borderline of it, he’s never been diagnosed and doesn’t want to be. Either way, he needs something to give him a little boost throughout the day and he generally gets it from energy drinks. Post-surfacing, Monster Energy is an ironic favorite of his, but like classic Sans, he’ll drink just about anything, including those 5-Hour Energy shots and anything in a similar vein. When he first picked up the habit of drinking stimulant drinks, he used to really hate the chemical aftertaste, but by now he’s immune– and even sorta likes it.

Pyre (Underfell Papyrus): Will drink coffee, but only when he really needs it, like if he’s pulling a double or triple shift on guard duty or has been awake for several days and even he’s starting to get tired but doesn’t actually have the time to sleep yet. He tells people he drinks it black because it sounds cooler, but he always uses an opaque travel mug so nobody can see how much cream he dilutes it with to make it more palatable. If given the choice, though, he prefers vitamin waters or fruit-infused water. It’s just more flavorful, okay?!

Mal (Swapfell Sans): Actually drinks his coffee black, and drinks it regularly. He’s a little sluggish in the mornings without a boost and is definitely the kind of person you might want to hesitate to approach before he’s had at least a sip to wake up. If you’ve known him for longer than a week, though, you know his beverage of choice is wine– he’s a bit of a connoisseur and has a pretty high tolerance for it so a glass at lunch or dinner is a regular habit for him. It takes a lot to get him actually drunk and when he does he gets very emotional and lovey and cusses like a sailor but that usually doesn’t happen!

Rus (Swapfell Papyrus): Coffeecoffeecoffeecoffeecoffee…! ……….Yes, he enjoys coffee, why do you ask? He adds a metric fuckton of sugar and milk and also probably drinks it a lot more than he should, at very, very bad times for his sleeping schedule. He’s a disaster and not great at making self-care decisions for himself, but uh…he seems to be managing alright? It’s not like he has a 9-5 or any pressing obligations that he’d really need to stick to a schedule for, so… you do you, Rus!

Slate (Horrortale Sans): Struggles with actual narcolepsy so coffee is…difficult for him. He’ll drink it however, he cares about taste about as little as classic Sans, but he really has to watch the times he does it or it can screw him over later. It can help him out when he’s feeling like he’s about to fall asleep in the middle of the day, but if he has any too late, it can make it harder for him to wake up in the morning and then it’s a whole Thing. Aside from coffee, he likes ketchup, but also soft drinks, of any kind. There’s so many flavors of soda up here on the surface and he’s kinda fascinated by them all, from the normal ones to the really weird ones– he’ll try peach, cream, cucumber, tree bark, anything, and it’s super indulgent but he…really likes that? That indulging in the pointless, largely nutritionless tasting of New Stuff is a thing that he can just do now? On any given day, you can open the fridge at his house and find a very bizarre variety of carbonated drinks in flavors you may never even have heard of before just because he thought it looked interesting and wanted to try it.

Papy (Horrortale Papyrus): Not a big fan of coffee! He’s had a lot of dental work done since getting to the surface and even while his teeth are still in braces, he’s very proud of how straight and white they are now and he’s very reluctant to do anything to damage them again in any way. Acidic drinks are generally out or enjoyed in very careful moderation, but coffee is out too because he wants to avoid all the staining and yellowing. He’ll stick to water, but also milk because it’s full of strong bones! And between you and me…he got a little bit brittle Underground, during the famine. He’s just not built as sturdily as his brother, and their growth spurt just made him even lankier– he needs all the calcium he can get while he’s still bouncing back from that whole ordeal!
