Conected to the mall. Has a great restaurant in front. Wi fi works great. Best shower i have ever had in the Philippines. the room is a little small but the price is so nice. Was going to just try this hotel for 1 night but stayed for 4 i will stay here again as it is very convenient. just outside the hotel also has airport shuttle services every hour at a reasonable price

It a very lovely place to stay in. The only minor issue is that they didn’t have enough coffee sachets or chocolate sachets. Otherwise, it’s a fantastic hotel and I would highly recommend it to both family and friends.

the proximity to the mall and cusine options, good airport transfers, clean and friendly hotel Seda centrio is a highly recommendable hotel. It is adjacent to the Ayala Mal , which has a good range of stores and cuisine options. the staff are friendly. Airport transfers can be arranged with a very reasonable rate of PHP200 per person. The hotel has a nice pool area. concierge can help you arrange for an adventure of white water rafting. check with the front desk for cocktail options as they sometimes have some nice programs at the bar. Breakfast buffet is sufficient considering that he price is very reasonable. the fish dishe i forget the name, was excellent. Cagayan de oro is a coastal city so ask for seafood

Seda Centrio is the best hotel in Cagayan de Oro in terms of location, service, and amenities. It's like a home away from home as it has all the basic and luxurious amenities that you would expect to find back home in the Western world. Staff were friendly and the hotel is situated literally beside the Ayala mall.The food was a bit mediocre for such a place but that wasn't a big deal breaker. The hotel was very safe, as you need to swipe your card to get access to your floor and room. Definitely will stay here again in the future.

Breakfast was excellent, Located beside the malls is a nice convenience, Price was very resonable for the quality of the hotel. The Mallberry Hotel is excellent all the way around except, no hot water. Since this is a common issue in the Philippines it wasn't a big deal to me but my wife sure was disappointed. Location, food and staff I have in the past stayed at Seda Hotel when i am in CDO(at about twice the price). This time I was planning on reeling in my expenses and what a windfall I had. The staff were on the whole excellent. The waiter in Rosso (Jey i think) was outstanding - polite, friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. The prices in Rosso were about 250-350 php for a lot of the main meals...about 8-11 $Aus. Outstanding value and great quality. The staff in the Blue Duck bar were of a similar standard. Now for the bad bits - WiFi in my room was pathetic! The best reception was in the bathroom, so i ended sitting on the toilet to get average reception. Even on the 2nd floor in the business lounge, the staff said the WiFi there was poor also - this is why the lobby bar is full during the day..the only place for good reception (and this is a business hotel?). My only other complaint was the choice of breakfast for Westerners - scrambled eggs and pancakes only! (I get that this is a primarily Filipino business hotel). Will I return...definitely YES!!

Mallberry hotel is a wonderful oasis in the busy and tired heart of CDO. The hotel has so many dining options that it's difficult to choose my favorite as they're all good. Great spa with wonderful staff and truly soothing massages. Rosso is a great little resto right off the main lobby - try the Gamba Quattro appetizer. I checked in with my husband and after checked in, he went outside for a gig. Upon returning to the hotel, it is already dawn and no one is in the front desk. he cannot contact me too since i ran out of battery and my charger was left in the car with him (yes very unfortunate). As a result, he cannot use the elevator without me bringing the key card so that thw elevator will work. So as a piece of advice, ask for 2 key cards if there's more than one who will stay in this hotel 😁 It will also save time for you don't need to fetch your family everytime they will go down the hotel to buy something or whatever.

It was the hotel's soft opening when we stayed here. Everything is fresh and new. We were able to locate the hotel easily. There were fast foods near the hotel. Malls were walking distance. Considering the price and the location of the hotel, this was one of the good deals when booking your place of stay.

Covid restrictions operating, like no Rooftop Restaurant/bar open. Staff friendly and efficient. When I received the online booking confirmation I simultaneously received a welcoming message from New Dawn Plus that finished "If you have questions, please ask!" I asked and reasked 3 questions but no online response. But the stay was pleasant.

Accessible, Clean, Comfortable Our stay at this hotel was very comfortable. The hotel has easy access to public transport. Just outdside the hotel there are jeepneys passing that can bring you anywhere you want to go in the city. The rooms are big enough and clean. Wifi signal was good. The rates are very affordable.

The location is great, though it is away from downtown area, the place is near the mall and there are lots of convenience stores outside, a massage parlor, restaurants etc. The place from where we stayed (9th floor) is also quiet. The room is just enough for a couple, the facilities are nice, there are plates, pans and cooking utensils provided, even a washing machine. Free Wifi is working but the TV has only 2 or 3 channels working. All in all, good value for money, we will recommend this to our friends and won't hesitate to stay here again if we are coming back to CDO again.

"Great value for money!!” Super love this place!! Location of the hotel is perfect! It is at the city center and a less crowded place than the one in Cogon. It is just a few steps away from Redtail too. A famous shrimp/seafood restaurant in CDO!! Also close to other fast-food chains like Jollibee, Mang Inasal, Burger King and a lot of coffee shops, and other restaurants nearby. There is a convenience store in front of the hotel too. The room is surprisingly nice and really clean. My first impression is that the hotel is already old so it won't be that nice but the room was clean, CR is clean and actually nice too. I love the bed because it looks like the whole mattress is made from memory foam!! So soft but not painful in the body. I love their bed so much. Airconditioning is cold too. So cold there was a time we turned it off for a few minutes then turned it back on again. Staff or the receptionist is not that friendly though. They answer your question but not as friendly as other kagay-anons we’ve met.

24 Hour Coffee Shops in Makati

This is for all the law students trying to find a coffee fix at 3 am and a place to study in Makati.

Starbucks Coffee (3 Locations)

G/F 6750 Ayala Tower, Ayala Avenue (Mon-Thurs: 5 am to 2:30 am; Fri: 24 hours; Sat: 5 am to 2:30 am; Sun: 5 am to 1:30 am)

You’ll get a mix of law students and office people here. It’s a hotspot so try to get there between peak hours

Pros: plenty of tables, bright lighting, baristas are super duper nice and v cute, plenty of outlets

Cons: it can be very loud sometimes so make sure to bring headphones

Tip: best spots, in my opinion, are one of the tables in the second floor that’s on the side that overlooks the ground floor and the communal table near the restroom. Those tables are spacious enough, you get your own outlet and hanging light. Temp’s not so bad in that area too.

G/F Easton Place, V.A. Rufino cor. Valero St. (Mon: 8:30 to 5; T-Sun: 24 hours)

Law student central (mostly from Ateneo, DLSU, UP and FEU. Although you get the occasional San Beda and UST students)

Pros: baristas are nice, it’s quiet, clean restroom

Cons: gets filled up pretty fast so try to go a bit earlier than 9 pm, not so much outlets, the ceiling’s pretty low in the 2nd floor where all the tables are (yes, I consider this a con because it kinda feels like you’re trapped in)

Tip: if you’re going solo or there’s just 2 of you, try to get the bar spot in the ground floor opposite the cashier. Not only would you get the space for yourself, you’re right beside the creamer, sugar, etc., it’s cold and cozy and you get your own outlet

Bo’s Coffee (2 Locations)

Baristas are kind and super accommodating and they try to remember your name

V spacious and plenty of tables and outlets available

Bit cold so bring a jacket or sweater

Pros: Restroom is clean, coffee is cheaper compared to Starbucks and CBTL, healthy pastries and sandwiches, it’s along a main avenue so it’s accessible, baristas don’t give you a judgmental look or give off any vibes that you’ve been overstaying

Cons: gets crowded 9 pm onwards with law students so try to get their earlier, law student central esp during exam weeks

G/F Glorietta 5, Ayala Avenue/North Drive (Mon-Sun: 24 hours)

Baristas are super nice and accommodating

Pros: plenty of outlets and tables, AC is great

Cons: restroom kinda smells but otherwise, clean; it’s a bit gloomy because of the dark wood interior and dim lights; food is pricey

Tip: try to get a spot at the bar so you have the hanging light fixture focused on your books

Seattle’s Best Coffee (1 Location)

G/F Ponte Salcedo, Valero St. (Mon, Sat-Sun: 6 to 12 mn; Tue-Fri: 24 hours)

law student central (mostly from Ateneo and DLSU) so be sure to get there a bit earlier but it usually empties out at around 2 am

Old smoking area = best spot because it’s cold and quiet plus there are more outlets

Cons: Security guard is a bit nitpicky about people leaving their stuff on the table and going outside for breaks so make sure you have someone at your table or don’t leave it unattended for so long. Moreover, don’t be so obvious when you’re taking a short nap. He’ll wake you up and give you a mini sermon pa

Circle K

Yes, I know. It’s a convenience store

Pros: plenty of tables, the lighting is great and you have a lot of cheap food choices

Cons: no outlet and restroom

Tip: You can use the restroom at Petron, McDonald’s or Jollibee across the street

Nanyang Offers Laksa and Other Authentic Singaporean Delights

It’s very seldom that you can find a bowl of laksa in Manila that tastes just the way they do it in Singapore. Most of the time, the flavors fall flat and it turns out to be a poor imitation. You can find good ones at five-star hotels, but these often come with five-star prices. Thankfully, this relatively new restaurant in Greenbelt serves a pretty good bowl of laksa as well as other authentic Singaporean delights.

Nanyang is a fusion of the contemporary and nostalgic Singapore dining experience. Similar to those old Kopi-tiams (coffee shop) in Singapore, they serve a selection of comfort food from breakfast all the way to dinner together with your choice of coffee, tea, and other classic beverages. It is from the same local owners of Toast Box, so I am pretty sure they have a lot of experience with authentic Singaporean cuisine. One of their newest branches is located at the third floor of Greenbelt 5 in Makati but they also have branches in Bonifacio High Street, SM Aura Premier, SM Legazpi and SM Pampanga.

Nanyang has a clean and modern look but serves old-school traditional items that have become the signature dishes of Singapore. The restaurant has a casual ambiance where you can enjoy your cup of coffee or milk tea in the afternoon while chatting with your friends.

The place is set up as a fast-casual dining restaurant so you can place your orders at the counter and have them for dine in or to go.

One of its signatures is the Nanyang Kopi which is rooted all the way back from the 60′s and 70′s. Coffee is served and prepared differently in Singapore so this handy guide will be quite helpful. They usually put condensed milk, evaporated milk, or both together with their Kopi or Teh so just choose your desired option from the guide if you are not yet familiar with their coffee lingo.

Nanyang coffee is brewed following a unique Straits Asian traditional recipe. You can watch them prepare the drink right in front of the counter. Coffee making is an art form so just enjoy watching the show.

You can have your coffee and tea served hot or cold. The Hot Kopi (P100) comes with coffee, water, condensed milk, and evaporated milk while the Cold Teh (P110) comes with tea, water, condensed milk, and evaporated milk on ice. You can even order a combination of both coffee and tea called the Yuan Yang.

The Iced Kopi Melaka (P120) and Iced Teh Melaka (P120) are two colorful beverages that use sugar cane syrup to sweeten the drink. These really look refreshing.

One of their popular beverages is the Kopi Jelly Milk Tea (P130) which comes in take away cup. The milk tea is made the traditional way and it not as overly sweet as the other brands you see nowadays. The milk was creamy and the coffee jelly sits elegantly on the frothy top.

Two of my favorite drinks in Singapore are the Milo Dinosaur (P130) and the Iced Horlicks (P130). I was surprised to see the Iced Horlicks here because not too many restaurants offer this beverage in Manila.

Nanyang offers the typical breakfast set, a freshly toasted bread with a modern twist, plus a hot cup of Nanyang Kopi. Order any of their Traditional Toasts like the KayaMila Original (P70) which is one of their signature items. Upgrade it to a Toast Set Meal and you can add a Kopi or Teh drink with 2 half-boiled eggs.

The proper way of eating the toasts is by dipping them in the soft boiled egg mixed with soy sauce. This is how Singaporeans have their breakfast and you can eat it that way too at Nanyang.

My favorite at Nanyang is their Laksa Prawn (P268). Thick wheat noodles are served in a rich coconut gravy flavored broth with a variety of spices and toppings including bean sprouts, egg, tofu, and fish lips. You can also opt to have it with fishball instead of prawns.

The rich curry coconut milk broth has a little spicy kick to it, but not too much that I can’t handle. Aside from Japanese ramen, laksa is the next best noodle dish for me with its creamy broth and multiple layers of flavors. Nanyang has one of the more authentic versions I have tried and it comes at a reasonable price.

The Cheesy Chicken Chop Noodle (P238) is another option for noodle lovers. This comes with golden crispy chicken slices drizzled with nacho cheese and served on noodles tossed with traditional homemade sauce.

For those who want rice meals for their lunch or dinner, try the Homemade Nasi Lemak (P238) which is Singapore’s favorite rice set. This complete meal comes with coconut rice, boiled egg, anchovies, peanuts, sambal sauce, and golden crispy chicken chop.

The Hainanese Chicken Rice (P268) is probably the most popular Singaporean dish. This set is served with fragrant rice cooked in a rich chicken broth, paired with their special chili-line and fresh ginger dipping sauces. It also comes with bok-choy and soup.

Hainanese chicken is a soy-sauce based poached chicken with clean and simple flavors. It really goes well with the chicken rice which is cooked in chicken stock.

Another option is the Hainanese Fried Chicken Rice (P268) which comes with fried chicken chop instead of hainanese chicken. For dessert, they have the Mango Sago Pomelo (P128) which is a refreshing way to cap off your meals at Nanyang. They will soon be opening another branch in SM Megamall so that is something to watch out for this summer. Singapore is just around the corner at Nanyang Philippines.

Ending the Curse of Debts

My journey as a single mother was not an easy ride after I broke up with my husband, I was left with all the responsibilities and financial obligations that should be shared by a couple. I admit I was born not with a silver spoon in my mouth but despite this, my parents did their best to raise me up well together with my 4 other siblings, (3 sisters and 1 brother). Growing up, I have nothing but a dream that one day I will be able to break up the cycle of a poverty stricken family which every once in a while would have to beg other people to lend us money just for us to survive for our daily food and fare. It was not this clear for me, not until I became a mother in my 20's. I realized how hard it was to feed a child and to look for resources just to give my sons their daily sustenance. I came to a point where I thought the answer to my financial issues is a higher pay, so I did find my way to getting a bigger salary by working in the Queen City of South -Cebu. Little did I know that God's plan was to reach me out towards getting to know Him more by introducing me to a wonderful woman named "Elle". She was a trainer in the first call center I worked for here in Cebu. I looked up to her because of her versatility, her unique character and angelic aura. I thought to myself everytime I look at her, "she is too perfect". It was indeed God's perfect plan as He lead me to repent on my deadly doings as a person, it lead me to know how God's love for me should compell me to stop hurting Him more. That was the start of my new life in Christ, that was August 21, 2011. The next chapter of my story revolved on my relationship with my husband, I prayed to God that we can still be united again thru God's amazing power. I tried, God knows I really tried until everything was too exhausting and dissapointing already that almost lead me to the dark path again. God's love was more evident when the people that sorrounded me would point me back to the right direction over and over again, though I was too stubborn to listen most of the time. One day, my burdens caused by long term wrong decisions about money and life hit me hard, I had no where to go, I had no one to run to except God. I talked to Elle again via chat and told her the misery that I was going thru, she patiently listened to me and then invited me to talk to her younger sister. I was clueless what would it be about, but I still went on with the appointment- knowing that her aim was to help me and who am I to say no? After all, Elle has proven herself to be a helping hand to me for the longest time. I met her wondeful sister named "YenYen" in a coffee shop in Ayala. She didn't get right into the business when I arrived, she sincerely got to know me by asking me some questions about myself and she also introduced herself to me. Her story inspired me knowing that she can relate to the "empoverish" life that I am in ATM (at the moment). She told me that almost all successful people in this industry did not have money at all, and that was why they worked hard for it. She, then introduced me to a certain "US based company", an "NYSE" listed company which was all I can grasp at that time. When she gave me the information how the business can be started, I told my poor self that it wasn't for me because of- lack of funds. But what I was amazed at hearing from her is this; "If your problem today is MONEY, what makes you think that tomorrow MONEY is no longer going to be a problem?" What do I have in my mind to change the situation? Starting that day on, I could never go back to deep sleep and I spent nights and mornings being awake, thinking about what she told me. Until one day, I took the risk which wasn't a risk at all when I look back to that memory. I was able to remove some of the stress in me, when I placed all the trust in what God can do rather than on what I can do. Yenyen together with her husband Jude, mentored me and made the Bible scripture clear to me- about the birds that do not go hungry because of God's amazing providence, yet they challenged me that though the birds have been provided for by God, they still continue to do what they ought to, they wake up in the morning to find food, they searched relentlessly until they found what God prepared for them. From that moment on, my life was never the same. I invested my time in learning new things, I invested my heart in whatever God has given me, and most of all, I worked hard for the opportunity that God has made me see. I am still a work in progress today both in my career and spirituality. I am learning each day and unlearning the things that I need to unlearn. I have more HOPE today more than I ever had a few years before I met them. Al Fresco Happy Hour at The Lounge of New World Makati

The global pandemic has really changed the way we work and relax. Gone are the days when we can all cramp inside those dark and stuffy bars and restaurants after office hours. These days, it’s important to look for safe locations with good ventilation and proper social distancing. That’s why I was happy to find out that The Lounge at New World Makati has already reopened, with their al fresco dining area offering a secure and refreshing venue.

The Lounge is a cozy hotel bar located on the ground floor lobby of New World Makati. This used to be a very vibrant and lively location before the pandemic, but with the limit on guests and dining capacity, seats are now placed further apart to ensure proper physical distancing measures.

This photo was taken last February 2020 during Valentine’s Day (Read: Valentine’s Day Staycation at New World Makati). I remember enjoying their unlimited sparkling wine happy hour that evening with Francine Arias, Marketing Communications Manager of New World Makati Hotel. So when Fran invited us to come and visit The Lounge again post-pandemic, we really wanted to see how it successfully evolved with the times.

The main highlight of The Lounge now is its outdoor dining area. This refreshing location is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy happy hour drinks with a couple of friends or family. It is open daily from 10:00am to 9:00pm so you can drop by any time of the day.

Imagine having your cocktails with this gorgeous view! The indoor areas of The Lounge is where most guests used to stay before, but now al fresco is the place to be. I can’t believe that this hidden urban oasis is just across the Greenbelt shopping center and right in the middle of the busy Makati business district.

You can even stroll around the koi pond while feeling the gentle summer breeze. We have been cooped up inside our homes for quite a while, so spending time outside in a safe and healthy environment is a luxury nowadays.

Guests need to follow all safety protocols when entering the hotel, including a temperature check, filling out the health declaration, and wearing face masks and face shields. We came right on time for the sunset and happy hour! The Lounge usually offers happy hour specials and discounts on selected items, so check out their Facebook and Instagram pages to find out these promotions.

The menu can be viewed using any QR Code reader on your phone. The hotel also offer free wifi, but don’t worry if you don’t have a QR Code app, because you can still ask for the physical menu.

The summer is still sizzling hot, so these new Tropical Cocktails at The Lounge serve as the best companions for only P495 nett each. My favorite was the Jack n’ Coco which is made with jackfruit, plantation rum, and coconut syrup. It actually feels like you’re sipping on a Jonas fruit shake while relaxing in Boracay Island.

They are also featuring the Piñanutsa, a tropical cocktail composed of tepache, Plantation Rum, and sugarcane. This is a sweet drink that caters more to the Filipino palate.

Then there is the colorful Pink Lady. This pretty glass comes with a combination of Kettle One Vodka, pomelo skin-infused syrup, and pomelo pulp. It’s unique pomelo flavor is very seldom encountered in the bar so you will really feel like you’re in a beach resort with this in your hand.

Of course, The Lounge also offers its regular lineup of Classic Cocktails like the Whiskey Sour, Cosmopolitan, Negroni, Mojito, and more. Wines, beers, freshly squeezed juices, shakes, sodas, coffee and tea are also available.

To accompany these delightful drinks, The Lounge at New World Makati is also presenting some new savory items on their menu beginning this month. Let’s start with the Prawn Soft Roll which is their own delicious version of the lobster roll. These creamy prawn cutlets sit on a lovely brioche bun and are topped with fresh herbs and salsa. The prawns are oozing with flavors and just pop in your mouth with every bite!

My favorite that afternoon was the Bikini Sandwich with Jamon Serrano. This sandwich looks so simple but its combination of cheese and tasty Jamon Serrano really works so well.

Those with a meatier appetite can go for the Sliders with its beefy trio of bite-sized burgers. They may be smaller than your usual burger but they do pack quite a punch with their thick and juicy beef patties combined with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, onions, and pickles.

The best dish you can pair with your happy hour drinks is definitely the Salpicao. This indulgent bar chow comes full of garlicky flavors with its generous serving of beef cubes and mushrooms.

Aside from the regular menu at The Lounge, guests can also order selected items from Jasmine, the hotel’s signature Cantonese restaurant on the second floor. There’s no need to go upstairs because you can order then from The Lounge. I ordered my favorite dish from Jasmine, the steamed “Har Gao” shrimp dumplings. One basket was not enough, so I had two!

Other signature dishes from Jasmine include the Crispy Pork Belly and the Barbecued Pork Puffs which I always get when I visit Jasmine for their All You Can Eat Dimsum promotion on weekends. It’s truly the best of both worlds as you can enjoy all these items from The Lounge while relaxing in a safe and charming environment. Cheers!
