Day 10 of No One Except @mr-orion Asked November (NoOneExOriAskNov).
I bid you welcome to the Land of the Sunrise, one of the four major continents of the World of Four Horizons! It is located near the Ocean of the First Horizon, from which the sun rises every morning. Just a sketch map for now, but I’ll clean it up later. My first map in a couple seasons, and it’s for my fanfic worldbuilding project…
Below the cut is all my lengthy worldbuilding nonsense.
Here is a list of the nations, their rulers, their biomes, and their general appearances, in alphabetical order, that call this continent home.
- Climbing Spires is located in the southern red desert, its buildings of sturdy metal and built into the sides of buttes and mesas. Cub Fan Voidstars, a half-vex exile, rules as Sovereign of the Red Rock Crown, over humans, vulture-folk, camel-folk, and thinking husks.
- Dragon’s Spine is located on the largest and only true mountain range of the continent, its buildings being mostly sturdy castles that fly purple banners. Commander X, an enigma in armor, rules as the first Wearer of the Dragon Crown in ten generations, over a sparse population of humans, goat-folk and free iceologers.
- The Drained Lands are the only unclaimed territory of the continent, so desolate and dangerous are they. It used to be the home of the nation of Geyser Heights, a place of fish-folk that once ruled the entirety of the Lapis Sea. The only known survivor of the Evaporation Disaster is XB, a wandering dolphin-folk messenger.
- Elsewhere is located in the western savanna, its buildings being a strange amalgamation of countless architectural styles. Joe Hills, a completely normal human, rules as the first and only occupant of the Other Throne, over seemingly every sort of people imaginable.
- Evergreen is located in the western hilly taiga, its buildings whimsical and elegant, from grand castles to tall bridges to quaint villages in dark wood and green. Gemini Taylor, a deer-like fae, rules as the Queen of the Crown of Needles, over fox-folk, wolf-folk, humans, and other cold-weather faeries.
- Great Acacia is located in the southern windswept savanna, its buildings sprawling, colorful, and almost all parts of massive temple complexes dedicated to the Acacia divinities. Pearl Moon, a llama-folk, rules from the High Priestess’ Throne of Histories, over other llama-folk, horse-folk, meerkat-folk, ostrich-folk, and humans.
- Iceberg Metropolis is located in the northernmost lake, a place cold enough to have its own icebergs, its buildings modern, pale, and sleek. Keralis is the current Mayor of the Blue Ice Crown, with another wolf-folk, Iskall, as his vice; the two administer a population of more wolf-folk, goat-folk, humans, and a few iceologers.
- The Labyrinth is located in the southern jungle, its buildings swooping, golden, and intricate. Impulse Esvee, a wild ocelot, rules as the Emperor of the Emerald throne over other ocelots, cat-folk, humans, panda-folk, and bat-folk.
- Livingstone is located in the western hills and forests, its buildings ruins of a long-lost nation retaken by nature. Bee Double Oh, an insectoid fae, rules from the Moss Throne as lord of horse-folk, fae, humans, and a few spider-folk.
- The Maw is located in the formidable ice spike biome north of the Lapis Sea, its subterranean buildings harsh, practical, and made of stone. A Doctor Mk-77, whose species is not known, leads this underground world with the Deepfang Crown on his head, alongside strange thinking zombies, skeletons, spider-folk, and humans.
- The Neverglades is located in the cold northern swamp, its buildings craggy and foreboding in black. Tango Tek, a third stray, a third blaze, and a third human, rules from the Basalt Throne over thinking drowned, skeletons, witches, humans, and a few hoglins that managed to stave off zombification.
- Permafrost Springs is located in the eastern snowy plains and half-frozen lake, its buildings stately and columned in white and blue. Cleo, a rather long unlived zombie, now sits on the Everfrost Throne, and rules great ranks of humans, thinking zombies, iceologers, and goat-folk.
- Sunset Coast is located along the edge and into the shallows of the south Lapis Sea, its buildings gilded and reaching for the sky in copper and browns. Grian Sunset, or Virida, depending on who you ask, is the parrot-folk Sitter of the Dusk Throne, the first ruler of this young nation of other parrot-folk, a few humans, and a couple panda-folk from across the sea.
- The Tangle is located in the southern mangrove swamp, what few buildings it has being converted fragments of giant, ancient machines. Ren Dog, a name taken in pride and in shame, is the first and only Lord of the Vine Crown, commanding a small population of wolf-folk, drowned, and humans that are willing to follow such an exile.
- Technicolor City is located in the eastern plains and forests, its sprawling buildings painted in bright colors and standing in cheery ranks. Scar Timely Good, half vex and half elf, wears the hat-like Crown of Colors, and happily rules a motley population of humans and animal-folk of all kinds.
- Umbra is located in the central dark roofed forest, its hidden buildings polished and strangely lifelike in the shadows of the trees. False Symmetry, an unknown sort of dark fae, sits on the Darkwood Throne, and rules odd humans, fox-folk, bat-folk, and fae.
There are three other major continents, one for each cardinal direction. In the west, there is the Land of the Sunset, where the Empires rule the land. In the north, the Land of the Equinox, and in the south, the Land of the Solstice, are… nonexistent. For now.

One of my neography-script learning pages I pulled from a cabinet. It’s the full lyrics of Constellations by the Oh Hellos in u/aleagio on Reddit’s script Diabolic, created for his amazing project Codex Inversus. It’s got more than a few mistakes (I could not write f’s properly for a while) but I still love it. If you want to try and read it, it starts at the top left and goes down before returning to the top, and I’ll include aleagio’s key below the cut.
I wrote in a simplified version of this, but you should be able to get the gist.

my favorite portrayal of divination in a setting is in Codex Inversus, where it's stated that if someone is seen suffering in a vision, the tradition is to get a tattoo on whatever part of them was most affected (such as their hand if the vision showed it being bitten by a shark) as, now with a tattoo, there is at least one flaw in the vision and, thus, it is less likely to come to pass.
I love Codex Inversus in general, stuff like the magic animals not being innately magic but instead true casters who's spells are all instinctual is so cool, same with the dwarves building mundane automatons to automatic the process of glyphwriting for study and using crude analog computers for mathematically calculating the ideal shapes for certain runes is also cool, nice to see a setting that fuses science and magic that seems to know what the scientific method actually is for once.
oh thats cool...

I also quite like how the Codex Inversus handles this -- its distinction between the angels and the devils isn't even one of order and chaos per se so much as a doctrinal split over the two groups having very different ideas over how to follow the now-absent Demiurge's will, with the angels believing that mortals should be tightly and carefully guided, controlled, and shepherded but also that mercy and forgiveness are the best way to handle crimes and sin while the devils believe that mortals should be given full control of their fates from the start but that immorality and transgressions should be harshly punished.
So in the present day, for instance, the Holy Infernal Empire has by far the internally freest culture but also uses a lot of very elaborate punishments for criminals involving pain, scarification and forced labor, while the Angelic Unison has an extremely strict and rigid society but also limits its punishments to public humiliation for lighter things and reeducation for heavier ones.
I feel like keep seeing media that depicts angels and demons as being functionally the same in both appearance and behavior and, like, what's the point of that exactly? I mean I guess the point is "hurr hurr they're both evil because that's edgy" but, like, narratively speaking, how is that more interesting than the alternative?
(I am not talking about Good Omens in this post, because while a big plot point of Good Omens is that the angels and demons are more alike than they realize, they are still distinct in appearance and behavior - doing the same nasty shit in distinctly different ways, basically).
#worldbuilding#codex inversus#I also recommend checking out the CI for a lot of other reasons because it's awesome#it also includes some of the best high-magic speculative ecology I happen to know of

Have you heard of the dragonslayer codex? It's full of super interesting dragons along with lore about each of them
Yeah, I first learned about it through Curious Archive’s video on YouTube :>
I think I’m also following the artist on Twitter? If I’m not then I’m stoopid lol
Very cool designs, and gorgeous artwork! I’d love to have it as a book if they aren’t already :>
Same with Codex Inversus, a different thing entirely but hhhhhhhhhhhh💕💕💕

Doing this from a worldbuilding first, story second perspective so this might be a bit different from story first, world second people but hey why not
Acceptance. Acceptance of self, of others, of being imperfect.
Other worldbuilders mainly (special shoutout to u/alegio, aka Luca Vanzella, aka Mr. Codex Inversus, he’s amazing), but also traditional writers, especially Brandon Sanderson and Tom Clancy (odd pair but I love them both), and all the folklore I can get my hands on.
Uhhhhhh there’s no one MC, but most of the major characters are pretty heavy on the acceptance themes, like found family and overcoming differences and diplomacy and such.
I don’t really write in proper chapters or even proper stories, more like short stories that happen to the same groups of people over their lives.
Original content, but I heavily reference all sorts of fandoms and media because why not. I used to post a whole lot more on my WorldAnvil and Reddit before the incident, but now most of it’s going up here on Tumblr.
I used to make up stories in my head but never write them down, I only really started writing proper stories during the pandemic.
I love you all, if you like writing, please never stop. Even if you don’t share it with anyone, do it for yourself. And if you do share it, thank you for doing so.
Writers of Tumblr, I have an ask game for you all!
Please reblog and answer these questions, maybe tag others too! My asks are also open for them.
What is the main lesson of your story (e.g. kindness, diversity, anti-war), and why did you choose it?
What did you use as inspiration for your worldbuilding (like real-life cultures, animals, famous media, websites, etc.)?
What is your MC trying to achieve, and what are you, the writer, trying to achieve with them? Do you want to inspire others, teach forgiveness, help readers grow as a person?
How many chapters is your story going to have?
Is it fanfiction or original content? Where do you plan to post it?
When and why did you start writing?
Do you have any words of engagement for fellow writers of Writeblr? What other writers of Tumblr do you follow?

The Aquiste, an intelligent species of six-legged and feathery extraterrestrials. Humans sometimes call them ‘centaurs’ or ‘dragons’ for fun. Lore and a conscript key below
The Aquiste (Aquisten ethnonym) are an omnivorous species native to the planet Reh-et (Our Home), formally designated Libra-4 in the Galactic Planet Catalogue. They are basic vertebrates, possessing six limbs, two of which are used for complex tasks, and four of which are used for locomotion. They typically possess two forward-facing eyes with rectangle pupils. Their bodies are feathered, and their plumage is typically of a varying brown and blue color. Aquiste originally inhabited grasslands, sparse forests, savannas, and other generally warm and dry habitats. This species still thrives best in dryer, warmer climates.
Traditional Aquisten clothing consists of a dhek, which is a buttoned or laced garment that covers the body from the shoulders down to the rump, a ferl, which is a hood or veil attached to the dhek at the neckline, and seras, which are limb covers. A cloak called a gent is added for extra warmth in the winter.
In current times, the Aquiste are a well-traveled species throughout the known Milky Way. Their six-limbed anatomy suits them to the multitasking necessary to run the radar systems of inter-planetary ships. A few well-known Aquiste are Khelik Yu-ren, current Speaker of the Pan-Species Galactic Council, Hanle We-aye, commander of the Libra System Defense Fleet, and Yehla Ju-ser, renowned engineer and designer of orbital stations.
The first Aquisten civilization, the city-state of Weh-et (River Home), is thought to have been founded in -2900, Galactic Standard Year System. They achieved planet wide civilization in 2076 Galactic Standard, and efficient space flight in 2103 Galactic Standard. The Aquiste inhabit all three inhabitable planets of their home system of Libra, being Dah-et (Blue Home), Lyl-et (Sand Home), and the aforementioned Rey-et. Their language is known as Heyt-pen (Sound Marks), and it is written in a vertical impure abjad, where vowels are represented as diacritics added on to the consonants.
There’s probably never going to be a proper conlang to go along with this script, because linguistics are terrifying. Heyt-pen is usually handwritten on isometric dot grids, or typed with a specialized keyboard.

Day eleven of No One Except @mr-orion Asked November (NoOneExOriAskNov). Doing this prompt today because that map took a lot out of me.
An as-of-yet-unnamed lady and her knucker with two very disparate inspirations.
Firstly is the answer to the prompt, the song. I got Rule #28: Sand by Fish in a Birdcage. Link below.
Fish in a Birdcage, Raquel Lily, Atlys https://open.spotify.com/track/17lmsiZTA80zUF3V4s7sNV
It’s a sweet, sad song written by FIAB as he was leaving a city he’d lived in for a while, not knowing if he’d ever go back.
Secondly is some art from a worldbuilding project I love: this three eyed girl and her pet, a photoshop digital collage by u/alegio on Reddit for his Codex Inversus.
Original post is here, the second image being the one above, but please check out the rest of his art as well.
Hit shuffle on your fave playlist untill you get a song that speaks to you. Then draw a character based on that song!
#no one asked november#worldbuilding#sketch#layered earth#this is probably some layer gamma nonsense#like an alt-history thing where owning a knucker and fishing with it like a cormorant could be a viable profession#idk ill do something with it#prompt response

I've had a idea for a post-apocalyptic DnD campaign for a while now, with the inciting event being Something Really Bad happening to causes all the realms to cave into themselves into one a la Codex Inversus.
interesting idea... i dont know how it would be done though. would everything just be a jumble of random worlds?
