y’know when your soda gets warm but not uncomfortably warm, just enough so it isn’t quite cold but it’s still sweet. and the taste makes you lay there and think about those pink sunsets that you never seem to catch anymore and that night you stayed up until it was light listening to your favorite album from when you were 14 because you were too anxious to sleep. and how the leaves in the trees used to shift in the wind but they don’t do it anymore, at least not in the same way they used to because you don’t lay on the swingset underneath the huge tree in your backyard because that backyard isn’t yours anymore. and you can listen to the songs you liked then but they don’t sound quite the same, all you hear instead is a bitter nostalgia that hurts your chest and makes you want to curl up and cry, cry that you can never quite return to how things once were. or maybe just put your soda back in the fridge and wait a while, maybe things’ll be okay then.
